This is pretty much a locals hangout I feel like...everyone knows each other... I ordered the steak tips sandwich, i didn't really care for the bread, it's meh, the steak tips were okay, my bfs chicken club with cajun was okay. Everything was just okay, nothing special, i've had better. They are nice though, but it's just one person working so it's kinda slow...

My husband and I live very close to Cronin's and have heard only wonderful things about this place. The smell of the steak tips in the spring and summertime would fill my condo with smells of good times at an outdoor BBQ. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday's, they always seemed to be packed and on game nights, forget about street parking. After living so close for 9 months, we decided to try them out on a snowy and lazy evening. BOY... were we in for a VERY BIG DISAPPOINMENT. Here is our experience... as we had this to go... living only next door.

We ordered the fisherman's platter and the Full Pound of Sirloin Tips w/ rice. I must say, the rice was the only thing that I could not complain about, but nothing that you couldn't make yourself from a box of Near East Chicken Flavored Rice Pilaf. Starting with the Fisherman's Platter, I was extremely surprised how little you got for $18.00, one of my young nieces or nephew could have finished this kids size meal with no problem. I kindly asked that the coleslaw be put into a separate container and since it wasn't, there was no way I would be able to enjoy the fries. Seeing that they were thrown right on top of the slaw and the container was not one of those sectioned ones, (just one big square)... it was was a bunch of soggy thick steak fries, that just might have been good otherwise. The whole three scallops got were good, but three...c'mon.

Moving on to the steak tips... what Cronin's is known for... was another sad story. Asked for medium rare, got well done. The cajun spice that was supposed to be on them reminded me of when I dropped a whole bunch of spices out of the acbinet by accident. I think that is what they did... what made these cajun, I don't know. These little dry turds that they are known for sucked up the little bit of saliva that I had in my mouth, almost causing me to choke. Who in Gods name is allowing them to have this http://steaktips.com domain name. A crying shame.

I think the biggest mistake that I made was not drinking at their bar before eating here. Clearly... all of the people that gave this place, any more than 3 stars were well on their way to being wasted if not already there.

Cronin's get two thumbs up for having Keno and scratchies... otherwise, I would rather take my chances at any local sub shop for much better fare.

I had only heard good things about this place before going in. A little hole-in-the-wall bar that gets the domain name http://steaktips.com has to be good at something right? Well, I went here with a buddy after work since we both got out early and were in the mood for some drinks and stuff. We got some beers and food, which was fine. Servers were nice too! However, good chili should have the cheese on it before it is microwaved. Also, the jalapenos should be mixed into the chili, not sitting on top of cold cheese. Pizza though, was fine. Don't change the recipe. Anyways, we were here for while and we decided that we'll stay around for trivia - big mistake.

Now I've done trivia before at tons of bars, but this experience sticks out as a reminder to not change from what other places do. One question, one song, and start on time. Not only was the music selection from the trivia guy awful, but it was over-the-top loud to the point I had to yell at the person next to me the answers we wanted to turn in. When one says "we'll play a couple of songs while I correct your answers", that doesn't mean play four 5-minute songs in a row. My friend that I was with ran trivia at a bar in college and knows that correcting sheets can take time, but it doesn't mean take 20 minutes to correct 6 questions from a team. Now we had some other friends meet up with us, and they left earlier than we did because trivia took 3 HOURS! 3 hours is inacceptable time for trivia. If you start at 8-8:30, be done by 10-10:30, not quarter of midnight. The worst part about this trivia was that the final question for which was a tie-breaker, which was poorly worded and ended in a loss, which was the final straw.

I don't care how good your steak tips are or how many lobsters I can get for $20, it will take a lot more than good food to make up for the really loud speakers, terrible music, and horrible trivia. Miniscule TV's too by the way. I have glasses and I shouldn't have to squint at either of the TV's around me. Just an all around disappointment.

Cronin's is a nice little Irish bar that offers pub grub and has nice after work specials like a burger and a beer. The steak tips are really hit or miss as it all depends on who the chef is. When I used to go there every week we would call ahead to find out who was cooking that night. They usually have a cajun chicken soup that is top notch.

Cronin's has been an after work tradition for years. Five years to be exact, it's a great little bar with a very old fashioned intimate feeling. For years now I've been meaning to try the food and tonight I can gladly say I did. I chose the sirloin tips which is probably the specialty with a website domain of http://steaktips.com. I ordered medium rare and the tips came out a perfect medium rare with a light and delicious even char.

Good drinks and great tips, I will be back for both.

Went last night with a couple of pals to watch the Celts game. Great TV's....everywhere. Had the Buffalo Wings and BBQ Tips Medium. They were both amazing. The wings were huge and hot. Real good. Nice blue cheese and celery on the side. The tips with a nice dollop of home made mashed potatoes and veggie on the side with a little red pepper to liven things up were perfection. Washed it down with some Sammy Adams and all was good...except the Celtics looked pretty bad. Total bill was lower than I thought. We thought they made a mistake but we rechecked and it was right. Perfect hideaway....and they take credit cards without a problem.

Great food. Good size portions. We pick up lunch at work from here every so often. The food is always good. I've had the burger and tips. Best steak tips around here and they come with steak fries. The guys at work love the fish and chips. Its dark inside and has a local feel to it. Check it out you won't be disappointed.

Great place, very relaxed first time in I was treated like a regular. Low prices, good food and friendly

This 'garbage can' place has cheap beers. That's the only positive thing about it. Unless you are a 'regular' it is a scary experience going into the dump. The food is 'fat farm' unhealthy junk. The waitstaff and bartenders are so bad that they make you think that you should get lost. If you sit near the TV when there is a sports event on... your hearing gets damaged.

Well I came here because people said the steak tips were comparable to New Bridge Cafe in Chelsea. I disagree.

Don't get me wrong, the steak tips are good by themselves. The problem is that NB has the salad going for it and the fries going for it. And at NB, the salad really IS part of the meal. The dressing gets all up in the steak tips and whatnot. Sadly, while the steak tips were quite delicious, the salad was kind of a letdown. Which sounds stupid, but if you've been to NB you know what I mean.

Back to the positive though, they serve big glasses of Magner's like any good Irish pub should. And like I said, the steak tips were very good if all you want are steak tips. And yes, compared to anywhere else they are DAMN GOOD.

I'd MIGHT have given four stars, but they don't accept credit cards. They DO have an ATM machine inside, but c'mon, it's 2010. Pay the fees and get a credit card machine.

The best steak tips around. I used to drive up to the New Bridge in Chelsea for the tips until I found this place. They're just as good if not better. It's sort of local hang out so it can be a bit uncomfortable for first timers....but they warm up quickly..........and if you're thinking ahead to St Paddy's Day...........they have the best corned beef dinner around!!!

Great steak tips!!! I haven't tried them cajun.. but I will now. There Cajun soup is awesome and just the right amount of spice. The service in the booth area is not always the best, and is sometimes slow, but that's to be expected since it's really a bar. The workers are friendly and the place is full of regulars... it's always nice to see some familiar faces there.. it is definitely a LOUD place so you have to be in the mood for that. Beer choice is good and it's a full bar... in order the enter the place you have to deal with the smokers hanging around the entrance and that is irritating if you don't smoke. The bathrooms are clean, there aren't a ton of TVs but that is not such a bad thing.. there is a juke box that can be a bit overpowering and that's when you know it's time to go... great place to go and I definitely recommend the steak tips!!!

I always get the steak tip sub done cajun, and the cajun chicken soup. I think they are both great. The beer is affordable. Sometimes the servers lose focus, especially if you are in the back room and the bartender has to become your waiter/waitress, but I do not obssess on things like that.

This pub has good food and drinks. Inexpensive. Always has specials. The service isn't that great. They aren't too attentive, but they are nice.

The tips, burgers, and salads are good. The chili is OK.

It's a decent size place, which never seems entirely full (I like my space).

It has a few tv's, which is cool. For a place like this, you'd think they'd have a pool table or darts or something, but they don't.

Specials usually revolve around sports events.

You can take the 225 bus here or do street parking (not hard).

    Bathrooms are not the greatest.

They also have stump trivia nights which are cool. They are receptive to large groups coming in and hanging out.

Of note, I do have to agree. It is a townie/blue collar bar, but I don't see anything wrong with that. The people are plenty nice enough. Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest nights. It can get loud.

Seriously you're run of the mill townie bar with slightly better than average food. Since they own the domain http://www.steaktips.com, I would expect them to have among the best steak tips in the Boston area. Yeah, not quite. They're just ok, rather than knock-your-socks-off good. What is good is the buffalo wings. They're the right kind of saucy and heat.

I probably would come here more if the staff didn't piss me off so damn much. One time, the bartender would not serve me alcohol despite having my ID (though out of state) and having numerous backup IDs with my name on it. I'm not even remotely close to 21 anymore. Another time, it was busy and they were short staffed but the bartender took an unnecessarily long time to take my order, even though he knew I was waiting quite patiently. To be fair, he did apologize profusely later that night. But the fact that I pretty much had to shove myself in his face to get my order in didn't make me happy.

From the looks of it, it feels like a Cheers place, and if you're a regular, it's not a problem. But if you're like me and only stop in on occasion, you don't get the warmest reception, which pretty much means I'm not in a rush to stop in again soon.
