Mother's Day was our latest venture at Crown Pub and regardless of when we come or what is going on, we always have a solid experience here. Â The food is very good, especially when they do seasonal menus, and you can't go wrong with Guinness on tap.
This go-round, I ordered the tofu bahn mi with a side salad and my husband ordered the lobster roll with skinny fries (an oxymoron at best!). Â I love, love that Crown Pub always has a well thought out vegetarian dish. Â I often order vegetarian not because I am one, but working with vegetables and making them taste great is far harder than a slab of beef in my humble opinion. Â The bahn mi had a great smoky flavor with the tofu, tanginess with the kim chi and overall fresh bright notes.
The hubs liked his lobster roll but commented that there was a tad too much Old Bay seasoning that slightly masked his beloved lobster. Â I tried a bite and thought it was super tasty. Â And of course the fries. Â I prefer the pub chips but the skinny fries are just as good.
Crown Pub is always a go to place for us when we are in downtown Fort Collins.
Tonight a Stranger unexpectedly Paid It Forward to Me! It was so cool. I will pay it forward to another Diner soon... ;-)
A Sunday night, two weeks and 2400 miles on the road, I wandered into Crown Pub on College Ave., in Fort Collins, CO. Â Had a half salad, a pint of beer, and a half order of their Fish 'n Chips... All the better because the Giants beating the Dodgers was on the TV. Â I asked for the check, gave the waiter my credit card, he brought back an empty bill sleeve containing just my credit card. Â He said, 'the couple over there bought you dinner,' jesturing to the table next to me. Â I had not chatted with the couple but overheard a word or two while using my iphone and watching the game. Â I thanked them and asked why. Â She said ' last week someone did it for me and I'm paying it forward.'
So cool. Â Salad good, fish/chips quite british pub-like, staff and patrons - fantastic.
This place has been a staple of Fort Collins (for me) for years. Â It seems that we don't ever set out to go to Crown, but when our first choice of drinking place decides to close down for a private party or decides to make Saturday night it's hip-hop night, we head over to the pub. Â And why not? Â Happy hours Sun-Thu from 10pm to close, way above average bar food, and sometime they have live music downstairs. Â Even if you come alone, it's a great place to chill and have a wee nip.
Review Source:Love that patrons have to enter through the front door that is made to look like you are walking through an English phone booth. The Crown has a lively yet laid back vibe. Self seating makes it convenient, and personally, I like the basement section. Bartenders and waitresses are friendly and efficient. Draft beer selections are great, as are scotch options. I'd have to say that the Crown has become my favorite pub in town. It just has this comfortable, neighborhood bar feel to it.
Review Source:I've been to the crown pub on multiple occasions, it's easily my favored spot of Fort Collins. Â Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I try to make it a point to stop in for at least a beer.
The aesthetic is that of 'ye olde pub' and the tap line up is absolutely breath taking. Â The seat yourself attitude fits right in, as this is a place for mature patrons and people who are capable of just enjoying the moment and having some fun. Â The upstairs is just the beginning, as there's a downstairs area with couches and a cozy bar scene.
My favorite part of this pub is definitely the beer lineup. Â They've always had the Lips of Faith series from New Belgium on tap, which is probably my favored beers in the region. Â Additionally, the food is pretty stellar, though just a *tad* high for the area, really nothing to notice.
5/5 for Food and drink, as I mentioned I make it a point of my day to stop here if we're ever in the area
5/5 for service, I've never had to wait long for a beer or food, and the bar tenders are always friendly and interested in what kind of character you might be
4/5 for the cost, but I'm not dropping my stars due to this because I feel the killer aesthetic and food makes up for it.
I wish I could take this place with me everywhere I go, because it's freakin awesome!
This used to be my go to spot. My fav place that never disappointed. The past 3 visits have been nothing but a disappointment. In all categories customer service, food quality and bartending. The servers and chef are new, seems like new management is not up to par not expecting greatness anymore. Can't trust to come here anymore to have a great time and good food. Received smaller portions for more money menu is smaller, and food came out burned....
Review Source:Well Gracie the server is terrible...not only did she ignore us for 11 minutes..she could not even focus beyond some really stupid conversation with some person who was not even her table.. Â I actually had to explain to her how bad she was .....as she giggled incessantly. Â I suggested that she give us to another server but she felt the need to stay with it and not explain the change to the manager. Â I told her clearly that the next step was to go to the manager. Â
We were seated, Gracie then sat water on the table and evacuated the area to entertain someone else's table.  She never once offered the special  of the day, beers on tap as they change frequently.  It took 11 minutes before she returned, and I believe that she would have continued her ignorant behavior if I had not shared with her the sheer stupidity of her behavior.
This has been a favorite for a while, but if I have this server again, I will not stay for her crap. Â Clearly this is some game, she has some relationship with the person at the other table, and she truly is just a very irresponsible "sorority type" that has nothing to do for the summer and she landed here to ruin the experience for everyone else.
The manager needs to work towards her finding employment elsewhere...I will not tolerate her behavior again. Â I spend good money, expect service which is prompt and attentive...none of this was on Gracie's radar.
Laid back pub with very decent grub. Â Like to try the chef inspired specials using local ingredients but have our standards on the menu. Like the fish n chips, of course.
This place is a downtown staple and I've been a fan for over a decade. Â Head downstairs to escape the crowds.
Happy Hour
Monday -Friday from 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Sunday - Thursday from 10:00pm - Close
Good pub food, great drinks. A bit overpriced. The other food isn't as great.
What I've tried:
Fish and Chips- pretty good, but how can you screw up fish n chips?
Fries- just OK, the dipping sauces aren't that great
Smoked trout- Not bad...but pricey considering the amount of food.
Asian Taco- Terrible.
Scotch (welsh?) rarebit- yum
Overall, I appreciate their attempts at a creative menu, and I like how they have a seasonal menu and decent happy hour options. I haven't had to deal with anyone being rude or unpleasant- so ++ for service. I would give Crown Pub five stars if the food was better, as the ambiance is a nice contrast to places like Drunken Monkey.
This is a solid pub that serves solid pub food.
It's strange to describe a pub as a great place to come and get sober, but that's what it was for me.
The fiancee and I needed a place to get some yummy greasy food and sober up after the awesome brewery tour filled morning/early afternoon, and this place hit the spot.
The service was fast and friendly, and it wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon. Â A cool atmosphere with enough TVs that you can watch sports if you want to but it's not overwhelming if you don't want to. Â
Their hamburgers were fantastic, and if you are into that kind of thing, I heartily recommend adding a fried egg ($.50) to the bacon avocado burger. It was scrumptious!
We are not sure what prompted us to visit The Crown Pub while bar hopping last year, but we are glad we did. What draws us back to this Fort Collins staple? It must be the pints, the plethora of scotches, and good pub food.
Atmosphere: Â When we walked in we immediately noticed the large wooden bar on the north side dominating most of this English style pub. Our eyes kept drifting back to the rows of scotches lined seductively behind the bar, because this place is definitely a step up from your average Fort Collins pub. The dark colors with the warm wood and dark carpet give the dining area a very cozy feel.
Service: Â We have always had decent service, whether it is at the bar or sitting at a table. The bartenders and servers have always been engaging as well as informative. No complaints.
Drinks: Â On their website they advertise "Over 30 single malt Scotch's, Small batch bourbon, 16 drafts and over 20 bottled beers". We figure there really isn't much more to say, but they do offer a full bar.
Food: Â The Crown Pub has two menus- one "Seasonal" and one "Classic". The Classic menu consists of pub style classics, appetizers, a few salads and soup. Â The Seasonal menu is ever changing, but currently offers entrees like fish n chips, Â buffalo meatloaf, blackened mahi and smoked brisket.
great burgers and beer selection!  Had the Relleno Royale at  $11.95 -
Pepperjack stuffed chili with chipotle mayo, lettuce and tomato on a toasted brioche bun. Â It was cooked exactly as I asked and tasted great. Â Don't forget they have the classic menu and the seasonal menu - check out both. Â $12 burger included a side but if you ask for honey mustard it's an additional $1. Â So on the pricey side.
I have been here innumerable times. One thing I like is that it is pretty consistent on food quality. Some of their specials miss the mark for me but their main menu is reliable.
Rolling two visits into one review:
Before Christmas we stopped in for a late night meal. (Bonus: They serve their full menu until 12:00midnight.) I had a delicious pork chop with a baked acorn squash topped with bacon, and Brussels sprouts. This goes down as one of my favorite Ft Collins restaurant meals ever.
Last night we went in for the Great Plates deal -- fish n chips!
Four large fish portions on a heap of thick chips. Fish tastes great, the batter is crisp, all fresh tasting. The only thing that is disappointing is their slaw sucks, it is bland and limp and oily.
Really relaxed atmosphere, people all around us enjoying the afternoon and having a great time.
Pretty much everything I love in a pub: fab selection of beers, awesome cocktails and tasty food (who doesn't love a variety of dipping sauces with their pomme frites??).
A few tables outside in front if you like people watching, dark-woodsy-pub feel inside (upstairs and down), encased (smoking) patio in the back. Of all the places in FTC during my short stay, we kept coming back to the Crown. Chill out with a beer at the bar or get rowdy with your pals at a table. Extra bonus - lack of college kids.
Yay for Crown!
Crown Pub, I miss you.
Your cheese fries, your lovely beers on tap, your curries and tasty daily specials, your wee-itty-bitty front and back patio when the weather is nice, sitting by the picture window and people-watching at Halloween (or anytime, really) and in general, pretty much everything. If I still lived in FoCo, and had to call a place home, this would be it. Comfy, cozy, dreamy, boozy. What more could any sane person want?
Folks! Don't forget there is a large room downstairs with a well-stocked bar, and they do live music Sunday nights.
P.S. The potato skins ain't half bad. Do it.
I would definitely consider this place a Fort Collins institution....
They have absolutely delicious food and awesome friendly service.
Usually when we go here, we stock up on appetizers and all graze together- try the onion rings, the potato skins, and the mussels, which are all delicious.
That's all I have to say about that. :)
Nothing too exciting here. Good beer selection. But where in Ft. Collins isnt there a good beer selection?! Maybe it was what I ordered...I dont know. I had a turkey bacon and avocado sandwich. It came with fries or salad. I went with the salad. The salad was on point. Nice little side salad. Just how its supposed to be. The sandwich however, was not. I dont have anything too profound here. It just wasnt a good sandwich. the bread was dry, the turkey was dry and the dressing just didn't come through. The only think saving this sando was the avocado.
Not a horrible place, just not a great one. The people I ate with seemed to enjoy their food. I'll give them another shot and try something different.
The Fort Collins restaurant scene is full of subtle surprises. Walking down College in Old Town, it's easy to underestimate some of the restaurants and bars as you stroll by, often dismissing them for serving typical, standard food. I think this is where The Crown Pub may have fallen for those who haven't heard the scoop. By the look of the pub on the outside, it might seem like just another bar in Old Town. But, oh no. That is not the case. The Crown Pub is Fort Collins' top gastropub - a place where you can grab a drink and one incredible high-quality meal all at the same time.
The only sad part about The Crown Pub? It tends to get busy and the service slows down. Our server was especially nice in letting us know that our dinner would be served soon, but it did take some time. I got a bit restless and I'm usually a very patient person when it comes to slow service. We ended up missing the end of the party at the other bar when we intended to go back for a few more beers and say our goodbyes.
The Crown Pub is a Fort Collins staple, yet easy to walk by for the unknowing or the unsure. This is not a place of substandard bar food, I promise you. If you can be patient for a wait on a busy night, definitely take a chance to experience this subtle Fort Collins surprise.
After beers for breakfast at New Belgium Brewery, we'd worked up quite an appetite. Wanting to eat at a small local restaurant, we asked a local at the brewery where he would suggest and he pointed us to the Crown Pub. With fantastic food and awesome service, we were not disappointed.
We saddled up to the bar and ordered a couple of beers and perused the menu. Etienne had the best fish and chips we'd ever had. The fish was in small, thinner pieces and was perfectly crunchy and not greasy at all. Le sigh, still fantasizing about those fish and chips. I had a turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich that was so good, I finished the entire thing... and it was huge. Strong work, I tell you, strong work. The bartender girl (bartendress?) was super nice and kept us happy. If only we were staying in Fort Collins, we may have stayed longer for another beer or three and made a day of it. Next time!
Love this pub! The smoked trout appetizer, burger, Achiote sandwich/salad all yum! The fish and chips was tasty but I was a little disappointed the fish was in 4-5 smaller pieces rather than one large fillet as you would get in Britain.
The atmosphere, service and beer selection is great. Would recommend for lunch, happy hour or dinner. Have not been here late night though.
Very cool bar/restaurant. I pop in here quite often for a pint and this has become my favorite place to relax. Cool staff and huge selection of stuff to guzzle. Â Menu has lots of great eats as well. Â
Gets busy often so plan accordingly, also be sure to check to see if the basement is open. I went in there a few times before I even realized they had a subterranean place to chill.
Crown Pub is probably the best bar/restaurant in the city. Â I include the forward slash because it is not necessary the best bar or restaurant by itself, but probably the best place to eat that has a full bar. Â I have been impressed with the gnocchi and my dining partners gave two thumbs up for the fish and chips. Â
There is a huge selection to behold at the bar and usually some good drink specials. Â A great place to start out the night in Fort Collins. Â This is easily one of my favorite restaurants.
Love the atmosphere of this place -- a great irish bar with largely a local beer selection. Â Limited outdoor seating, but both the main and lower level are cozy and inviting.
The food is generally quite good. Â Stick to the sandwiches, which are solid every time.
Only complaint -- for an irish-themed place, they should offer more beers from Ireland and/or England. Â I love my local microbrews, but it seems like a missed opportunity to offer up some great imports.
I'm writing a second review considering this place is as good as it gets in Fort Collins. Â There is a bartender there (Chris I believe - shaved head mid/upper 30s) that has the personality of the bartender you want as a bar owner. Â
They have a healthy serving of local beer on tap and the food is very good. Â I recommend the burger stated from my previous review; however, during my second visit I ordered the King's Curry (chicken, there are other options) and it was surprisingly delicious. Â I ordered it medium and supplemented with the 2 different hot sauces they provided - I'm craving this just thinking about it.
A great stop in Old Town.
The Good: Â Drinks, Service. Â The basement bar is extremely cozy and is a wonderful place to hang out with a group of friends.
The Fair: Â The food. Â Hit or miss, but more hit than miss.
The Horrid: Â Nothing I can think of. Â It's definitely worth a visit.
Stopped in here on our way to visit my future brother-in-law and his wife in Cheyenne, WY after getting into DIA and hour later than scheduled.
We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, and there really didn't seem to be any sort of established system for doing so, which was kind of weird, really the only negative part of our visit. We ended up just going downstairs and hovering over some tables that were closing their tabs.
I think all four of us got fish and chips and a beer. I chose Blue Moon as a way to try and convince myself that it wasn't so damn cold outside. Loaded up the fish with vinegar and went to town. It was freaking delicious. Loaded up the steak cut fries with ketchup and went to town on them, also fantastic.
I was kind of hoping to see some shepherds pie on the menu, as that (to me at least) represents the ultimate cold weather pub food, but the fish and chips was still great.
If i'm in FoCo again, i will certainly be going back. Cool place.
