As a music venue - 4 1/2 stars! Loved it! For food and customer service - 2 stars, YIKES!
Let's start with the good!
Cynthia Woods is an outdoor stage with seating under a covering as well as lawn space with open seating. The stage is large and well lit. I went to see Bugs Bunny at the Symphony and the sound was really good. The symphony sounded great, although while the open air allowed some audience noise to disperse, it also allowed for the audience to be more distracted by outside commotion.
In some ways, I loved the open air feel, and in other ways I prefer a closed environment. Let's say for example a Pitbull concert. This isn't really the venue to see a club dancing, hip hop artist. For a theater production or a laid back band like Dave Matthews? Probably perfect.
There are large fans above the seated area that probably cool down the audience in frequent Texas heat. It was an abnormal night - cool and wet and windy so I didn't love them on because I was cold to begin with. But that's unusual.
The seats sort of stink though. Really uncomfortable! Bring a jacket or pillow to sit on... Aisles are pretty narrow too so I suggest getting yourself situated before going to your seat in the middle of the aisle.
The lawns allows you to bring your own picnic or blankets or chairs. They only things not allowed in are weapons and drinks. Otherwise, make yourself at home (it seems).
Now the bad!
The food here is awful. And okay, it's a place that's allowed to get away with bare minimum because there's no competition. But seriously, the basics are just so simple to do decently.
Like popcorn. Nope, theirs is bland and lacking flavor or salt or butter or anything. The pretzels are just okay - nothing commendable.
They don't have little cups for condiments or packets of condiments. Which means that if you get a corn dog or a pretzel and want to bring mustard back to your seat, tough love. You get none. You can ask for a container (you don't get one to begin with) and they charge you TWO DOLLARS. Really?? That's ridiculous. Penny pinching where it doesn't count it awful.
BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. Everything was bad and if you have a problem, don't expect them to care.
One of my Favorite places to go for Concerts. I have seen a lot of concerts here and everytime I come here I have a blast. The lawn is the best place to be, you can bring your own blankets, you can rent the chairs and just enjoy the day sitting and watching the concert with your family and friends. It is pricey here just to get some pizza it is like 8-12 dollars, and don't even mention alcohol it is super expensive even fountain drinks is pricey. I love how you can just sit back relax and enjoy the show I love it! The best thing about this place is if you don't have tickets to get in you can also enjoy the show from outside the pavillion. They let you sit outside and enjoy the show.
