As a music venue - 4 1/2 stars! Loved it! For food and customer service - 2 stars, YIKES!
Let's start with the good!
Cynthia Woods is an outdoor stage with seating under a covering as well as lawn space with open seating. The stage is large and well lit. I went to see Bugs Bunny at the Symphony and the sound was really good. The symphony sounded great, although while the open air allowed some audience noise to disperse, it also allowed for the audience to be more distracted by outside commotion.
In some ways, I loved the open air feel, and in other ways I prefer a closed environment. Let's say for example a Pitbull concert. This isn't really the venue to see a club dancing, hip hop artist. For a theater production or a laid back band like Dave Matthews? Probably perfect.
There are large fans above the seated area that probably cool down the audience in frequent Texas heat. It was an abnormal night - cool and wet and windy so I didn't love them on because I was cold to begin with. But that's unusual.
The seats sort of stink though. Really uncomfortable! Bring a jacket or pillow to sit on... Aisles are pretty narrow too so I suggest getting yourself situated before going to your seat in the middle of the aisle.
The lawns allows you to bring your own picnic or blankets or chairs. They only things not allowed in are weapons and drinks. Otherwise, make yourself at home (it seems).
Now the bad!
The food here is awful. And okay, it's a place that's allowed to get away with bare minimum because there's no competition. But seriously, the basics are just so simple to do decently.
Like popcorn. Nope, theirs is bland and lacking flavor or salt or butter or anything. The pretzels are just okay - nothing commendable.
They don't have little cups for condiments or packets of condiments. Which means that if you get a corn dog or a pretzel and want to bring mustard back to your seat, tough love. You get none. You can ask for a container (you don't get one to begin with) and they charge you TWO DOLLARS. Really?? That's ridiculous. Penny pinching where it doesn't count it awful.
BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. Everything was bad and if you have a problem, don't expect them to care.
One of my Favorite places to go for Concerts. I have seen a lot of concerts here and everytime I come here I have a blast. The lawn is the best place to be, you can bring your own blankets, you can rent the chairs and just enjoy the day sitting and watching the concert with your family and friends. It is pricey here just to get some pizza it is like 8-12 dollars, and don't even mention alcohol it is super expensive even fountain drinks is pricey. I love how you can just sit back relax and enjoy the show I love it! The best thing about this place is if you don't have tickets to get in you can also enjoy the show from outside the pavillion. They let you sit outside and enjoy the show.
Review Source:I have avoided the Woodlands Pavillion like the plague for years. Parking was crappy awful, you sat outside in the Houston heat, it was w-a-y up in the Woodlands (over an hour from my house) and did I mention it was outside?
But I got some free tickets to see Barry Manilow and thought, "what the heck" let's see if anything has changed since I was there last.
It has! And except for the heat it was a a pleasant concert experience.
Since the waterway improvements, finding your car after the show is 1000X better. No more walking through the woods until you locate your parking lot. Lovely well lit walkways and plenty of traffic cops and attendants to help you get in and out easily
There are pay parking options like the garage in the back. But honestly getting out of that is a pain. I've done it once or twice and you sit a lot longer in that thing than you do in the free parking.
There's a drop off area on the north side of the Pavillion if you want to drop off folks and then go park too.
We actually parked in a private company lot in covered parking...for free! The walk over to the Pavillion was beautiful. We stopped a few times to sit by the water and watch the ducks and the kayakers. After the show we were back to our car and on I-45 South in about 15 minutes from leaving our seat. Fabulous!
I've never sat on the lawn but I do have friends that do at every show they see there and they love it. Honestly, until the sun goes down at your back even the covered seats are HOT. There's nothing that can be done about the heat. The seats close to the stage get some of the AC off the stage where it's cranked for the performers.
Drinks are CRAZY expensive. $7.50 for a large bottled water? Really? But there's plenty of choices for food and drinks.
Sound is really hit or miss depending on the band but the big screens on the side make for a nice experience.
Bathrooms are usually pretty clean and there's rarely a line too long.
I might go back...it would have to be free again or someone I just couldn't miss the opportunity to see.
Great place for concerts! I've been here a few times and every time it has been great! The only con would be that parking bites and traffic is horrendous whenever there is a concert. Btw, the lawn area is great if you just want to listen to the music and not really see the band. If you do want to see the performers, I suggest that you buy actual seats close to them.
Review Source:Great place to go for concerts in the area. Â Have been here many times for shows. Â Have seen Kenny Chesney, The Lumineers, John Mayer, Gotye, and others. Â Have had a blast here. Â Get here early if its a main stream artist due to it becoming packed. Â I dislike the high prices for drinks and food but hey what place like this doesnt have high prices. Â Is a great place for concert and to spend time with friends and/or family.
Review Source:I've been a patron of the CWMP many times over the years to see countless shows. Â My biggest pet peeve with the Pavillion these days is the limits they put on customers. Â By limits I mean...no chair rentals for the lawn at most shows, nor can you bring your own in, restrictions on the size of my purse - really? Cause if I bring in my big Jessica Simpson bag its going to make me that much bigger of a security threat??
It is a great spot to catch a show if you are in the seated areas, which provide ample leg room in the rows and great views from all sides. Â The lawn on the other hand is like watching a concert on TV, and for the price of most shows I usually avoid the lawn for this reason. Â Lastly, the cost of food and drinks here is absolutely outrageous...$11 for a beer and $10 for nachos? So not worth it!
One of my favorite places to go for concerts. I've seen so many bands here and have had a blast every time. The last concert I went to was Buzz Fest 2013. Gavin Rossdale from the band BUSH went all the way to the lawn and I was in his arms!!! Totally freaked out afterwards (see picture). Shinedown's set was amazing. Still get chills when I think about it. Recorded the first part of "Simple Man" and then my phone died. Fail.
The drinks are so damn expensive though!!!
Say what you will about the Woodlands (and I grew up there, so I do), they do it right when it comes to outdoor concerts (if not much else). I've been going to the Pavillion since it first opened, and I've been a couple dozen times at least. The last time was this summer for the Beach Boys (don't laugh, it was my Dad's birthday, and Brian Wilson is always worth seeing). Even with a packed house, the bathroom lines are reasonable, and the premises are clean. The drink prices are ludicrous, but you kind of expect that. The food is awful and overpriced as well.
But the sight lines and production are always top notch. You can rent chairs for the lawn or pay for up close seating. There's plenty of parking and no worries about crime and whatnot. You can also easily walk from all the shopping areas if it's not too hot.
It's not Southern Star Ampitheater, the site of so many of my concert experiences, but it'll do. Now if only it wasn't in the middle of suburban nowhere.
I have never had a very good experience here. Â Sometimes they get some really good acts, but mostly huge productions from acts like Dave Matthews Band, Linkin Park, Jimmy Buffet, etc. Â Which is fine if you like those shows. Â The amphitheater is nice, but everything about this place is a huge hassle. Â Forget about parking, and huge lines everywhere. Â If you have a seat, not on the grass, the acoustics suck. Â You can't hear a thing but feadback. Â The grass area can be nice, especially if you have kids so they can run around and not bother people. Â I have just never walked away from here and said, well that was worth the hassle.
Review Source:My first visit to CWMP last Saturday night. It was for the REO Speedwagon and Styx show. Parking is a little strange and entrance access was also a bit obscure. Next time I will try the other entrance and see if it's better/easier.
The venue itself is pretty nice. We had lawn seats and the sound was very good. The view was okay. What can be expected from that distance. Easy enough to get out, The Woodlands are asleep by then! A little bit of traffic getting in though. To be expected with the mall, etc.
The sound outside in the park area behind was so good, I can't imagine it not being more full!!! Perfect spot for a picnic and free concerts all summer! Â
Already have tickets for the Bare Naked Ladies show and can't wait!
this is actually my favorite venue for concerts in houston (eventho it's technically in the woodlands).
I would recommend driving there early to allow some time to peruse market street. Â I like to do happy hour before at jasper's or grotto, do some shopping, then head over to the pavillion. Â
I really like how they have general admission (for the yard) & they've expanded their covered seating area to accommodate more people. Â I definitely like how the new seating area has more legroom, as it allows easy in & out access to your seats, especially if you're seated in the middle. Â
this is a fabulous venue when it's nice outside! Â be sure to get a yard margarita & check out their selection of beers. Â food & drinks are a bit pricey, but that's expected for a venue, rt?
I have been going to concerts at this venue for years and have always had positive experiences. However, I will never go there again. At the Rush concert on Sept. 25, 2010, I was assaulted by one of their tickets checkers. (I'm a 122-pound female.) He grabbed me roughly by the arm not once, but twice. He wasn't even a security guard and had no right to lay a hand on me. I'll never go to a concert here again.
Review Source:I went here the first time a couple of weeks ago for the Aerosmith concert. Â It's a nice place, although the actual number of seats is rather small. Â Most of the "seating" is on the lawn, a nicely manicured, well, lawn. Â You can rent lawn chairs, but most people just sit on the grass until the concert starts; then everyone's standing for the duration.
Concession stand lines move fairly quickly; I only got beer, so I can't comment on the food quality. Â It seems that it was standard concession fare - hot dogs, etc. Â They do have St. Arnold and a couple of other tastier beers. Â The souvenir stands, however, are slow as molasses. Â I'm not sure if they were run by the pavillion or the concert producer, however.
The sound system is loud without being overpowering. Â Overall, I had a nice time. Â If only it weren't quite so far...
