ok let me start by saying that I lived with a Dutch Indonesian partner for 4 years and learned all the intricacies of Indonesian cooking & spices.  I also traveled to Malaysia, Borneo, and Singapura to experience the food and flavors of SE Asia. Dapur captures the essence of this region with authentic dishes and unique presentations.

This is our second visit and it keeps getting better.  The eggplant, brussel sprouts, fried calamari with spicy sweet sour dip, and spider roll were more than adequate appetizers for 3 people (remember this is a TAPAS establishment) and were all extremely tasty.  The Beef Rendang (picture Indonesian Pot Roast) and Lemon Grass Chicken (grilled, sliced, and sprizzled with Dapur brown sauce) rounded the sharing and were again very tasty and sufficient for 3 people (however next time I will follow waiter Tom's suggestion and have the Goreng instead).  I can also recommend from previous dining that the Crispy Duck, Sea Bass, Chicken Satay, Lobster Roll, Passion Fruit Pie, and Chocolate Volcano are also worth trying and will not disappoint.

If you are new to this type of menu, then by all means ASK YOUR WAITER - he knows what the chef is specializing in tonight (there are 3) and will want  you to have a good experience.  I must say, I asked Tom to select a dessert for us and he was spot on with the Crispy Sexy (Fried Cheese Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream)  and next time we must try the Ginger Ice Cream.

Oh yes, if you do not drink neat, than the house selection of wine is very adequate for those who fear previous admonitions of weak & watered down drinks but I doubt the veracity of previous admonitions.  If subdued lighting is a problem, request a table with a spot light to better peruse the menu.

The service was fast and timely, water constantly refilled without asking, plates cleared seamlessly and without delay,  entrees followed immediately after apps and was fresh and hot.  Dessert spoons and plates set out after table cleared and before dessert presentation.  As for the fare -- about $133 for 3 with 4 glasses of wine including tip.  I have seen far more overpriced tabs for more mediocre servings at other 'tourist traps' -- lets hope the tourist don't ruin the ambiance of Dapur with their limited dining knowledge and comments.

If this still sounds too pricey, then drop in at Happy Hour until 8:00 to save on Tapas and drinks.

I only wish they had Krupuk!!!

Great food here, but small portions.  I husband left hungry but I was full :)  Its pretty pricey for small portions.

Terribly mediocre and unoriginal.  I don't understand why they opened such a big place with dramatic space, and such a boring menu.

For lack of anything that stood out on the menu, we ordered Pad Thai, and Chicken Fried Rice. .... zzzzz.... It was lame.  I didn't bother to finish my Pad Thai, and I usually eat everything, or at least take it home.  The waiter came over and asked me if I was done.  I asked if the food had MSG in it.  He protested oh no!  He then should have asked me if I didn't like my dish, or if there was something he could do.  He didn't ask though.  He just put it in a to-go box, without even asking if I wanted to take it home.

The best thing about this place was the giant gold buddha.  Poke your head in to take a look, and check out the decor around the bar, then go get your food somewhere else.  Very disappointing.

This contemporary Asian restaurant is located in a small shopping area of Federal Highway.  It has a good bar that features a good happy hour.  They make their versions of the typical drinks with many tropical fruits.  The drinks are extremely well mixed.  The food  we had were tapa sized and all of them were very good tasting and well presented.  I loved the calamari, the grilled one, wow never had it like this, so fresh (the more typical fried was very good as well as I tried in another visit).  Try all.

The reviews here can't be real. Small portions, weak drinks and  a creepy atmosphere if you ask me.

Food is pretty tasty but the bar/lounge serves overpriced and really weak drinks. Would not go back because of that. Decor at the bar is cheesy with empty bottles of patron on lighted glass shelfs make it a little dumpy.

This place is a knockoff of Tao!!!  The food is ok but the decor is so tacky. The decor is all over the place and not zen at all !!! Only go here if you want to be ripped of and so touristy.  What a waste!!!  Would recommend to just go to the real thing. First off the drinks are soo watered down!!  The food lloks great but is so nasty. Our server was a little diva. The mangers is trying to rip people off and does not at all respect his customers and blames it on something else.  They are trying to be a hip place but it is so tacky!!! This place is a mess. So class less!! Trashy place!!!

Umm... I don't what to think of all the reviews that I just read. "large portions"? Tell me it's a joke. Tuna tartar was delicious? Well, then I don't know any more what to believe.
We had couple appetizers, as we stopped after work and they had specials for that time of evening. I had mohito with hardly any alcogol in it, it was sweet and nice, but I wanted something stronger.
Tuna came on  a huge plate, bite size 4 pieces of rice squares and mushy tuna on top. Regular price $13. In exactly 2 min. I was done with that dish.4 shrimp dumplings, regular price $8 were not fresh, I swear they smelled funny.
I think the whole purpose of this place is not about food, they are trying to look like  a trendy chick place with good looking staff, vallet parking and darkness inside. I m not coming back.

I enjoyed my dining experience immensely at Dapur. The service was stellar & very up to par. I ordered the grilled Calamari and it was delicious w/ the right crunch. My date had the fish of the day, which was a red snapper fillet marinated in a ginger dressing w/ steamed veggies; crunched with delight. The resto & lounge (next room over) are nicely decorated and the music was sultry & sassy. A Buddha is also present with zenful vibes. Don't miss out on Dapur.

Purchased a groupon for this place and was very excited to try it out!! The place is lovely, I loved the decor and atmosphere. We tried 6 small plates and all were superb. The only negative thing would be the service. Our waiter was slow and not too friendly.

This place makes my favorite crispy brussel sprouts.  And I really enjoy their Dapur duck and calamari.  The passion fruit pie is outstanding when it's served extreeeeemely cold.  It's just okay at room temperature.  This is a neat, trendy place.  Very good-looking and helpful service.

There are so many amazing dishes on the menu I find myself fighting the urge to order one of everything. A few favorites are the koren short ribs, spice tuna tartar, and the Dapur tuna roll. The martini menu has a collection of libations that can satisfy any cosmopolitan's palette.

Considering that majority of people here already wrote about the decor of the venue. I will say the following.  Ladies night on Thursdays.  Free bar house liquors (ie. rum and coke, vodka and cranberry, gin and tonic, etc. ) wine and featured list of specialty cocktails were $5 which is still a great price.

The appetizers in the lounge area ranged from $5-8 for dumplings, chicken scewers, etc. so the price is VERY reasonable. Food tasted great!

I had an order of chicken dumplings and 4 gin and tonics and my bill was $5.23.  WINNING!!!!

Service was great! our cocktail server was never too far for us to be able to order another round.

Definately going to be my new Thursday Ladies night hotspot!!!!

*for the guy who said the decor was tacky maybe they redid something because I have seen tackier for sure*

Unique food but extremely small portion for the price. Good drinks and ambiance. Good Service.  There is no place in FTL where you can eat decent grilled calamari and hamachi Kama except Dapur.

This restaurant is about par for the course in FTL, which means it is horrible.   Hard to give 1 star to any business, but I have to for this establishment.  The decor is embarrassingly tacky and the service is slow and average.  The food is downright awful, unfortunately.  Our Korean bbq ribs were rubbery and fatty due to both cheap ingredients and bad preparation - hands down the worst we have ever eaten.  Sashimi was bland and not fresh.  Pad thai was o.k.  Drinks were VERY watered down.   Rock shrimp was soggy.  Just moved down from LA.  I know I can't expect the same type of cuisine down here, but I have had tastier meals at Panda Express.   This restaurant wouldn't last a month in any other city.

Well, I had it in my head that I really wanted to have a drink and since parking is such an ease (they have free valet parking) and their happy hour is awesome (good music and delicious handicraft cocktails), I was not going to look any further than Dapur. The dining area is separate from the lounge, so we headed into the dinner area to grab some eats before having a couple of drinks. They do happy hour tapas but I like eating at a table and they only have bar style seating in the lounge. We weren't all that hungry so we ordered the Spicy Tuna Tartar, Royal Tuna Roll and Fried Rice (doesn't exactly complete a meal but my boyfriend really wanted it).

The Spicy Tuna Tartar was so good. To sum it up it was spicy, flavorful and fresh. The crispy rice was crispy but not crunchy and I loved that. The tuna was just tasty.

The Royal Tuna Roll was good also. It is made with Hamachi, tempura jalapeño and cilantro with tuna and wahoo on top. Again, the fish tasted fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked. There are no negatives or complaints; this just did not wow my taste buds. It was very light and I like my food strong and packed full of flavor.

The fried rice was okay. It has a nice flavor (I would say it is similar to Thai fried rice). The rice was just a little too wet for me.

After eating and while paying our tab, we start talking to our waiter. We tell him that we going to go to the bar to have a drink before we leave and he kindly gives us two free drink cards. We pay for our meal and head on over to the Lounge on the other side. I end up ordering 2 Tangerine Mojitos (I was going to have one but since we got one free I felt I had to have two) and my boyfriend (who refuses to try new things) had 2 Long Islands. A long island is a typical drink you can get anywhere but I have to say that Dapur makes some great drinks. Their specialty cocktails are even better. My Tangerine Mojitos were magnificent and frankly you can't say much more than that.

So far so good! Until we meet again!

We really admire this place and thought it was a great find on our first visit. So much so that we even took out of town guests and they really enjoyed it too.

That's why I am severely disappointed with our visit today.  We ordered the rock shrimp, a fav since our first visit, only to find a long hair in it.  Unfortunately it made it to my mouth before I discovered it.  I understand stuff happens but to not even get an apology from mgmt or even have that plate comped was unsatisfactory.  For that reason alone we will not be patronizing this establishment any longer.

Went a few weeks ago, and it just wasn't good.  Sat at the bar and couldn't read the menu, the martini wasn't good, and the food seemed overpriced even though I had a groupon.

The food arrived and it was bland, the bar manager's attitude was sour...all in all it was just an unpleasant evening spent here altogether.

Went with a groupon that everyone else seemed to have as its been on offered in what seems forever.  I have another groupon that I guess I'm gifting to someone else.

Great presentation and the food was good, was rather loud, not really a place for a romantic first date, but great for a place for a bunch of friends to hang out and enjoy the tapas.

Nothing but good things to say. I'm a mostly vegetarian (I still eat fish) and I love this place. Their happy hour rocks (7 days a week from 5-8pm, except Thursdays it's ladies night and it goes until 10) -happy hour is only honored in the bar area (which could use some non high-top/couch seating and a table or two at regular height)

It's a chic and trendy place with good food, both Thai and Japanese. The brussel spouts are yummilcous, as is the fried crab thing with peanut suace that I don't know the name of. Killer vegetarian rolls as well. The lychee martini is my favorite cocktail, and they always knock it out of the park. The service is very friendly and the food is great. What more could you ask for?

All the great reviews hype me up, but what a huge let down!

Over-priced mediocre Asian food in a setting that caters to people who care more about fancy decor than good food.  Sorry, I care about my food, not just looking good but tasty as well, and the place simply doesn't measure up to the better Thai, Japanese, or Indonesian places I've been to in S Florida.

The brussel sprouts is quite tasty, and we did enjoy the bakwan (kind of like tempura crab cake).  The Dapur Green was just a slightly upscale version of the salad you usually get for free at Japanese restaurants.  We tried the beef rendang, a very traditional Indonesian dish, and definitely it doesn't measure up to others we've tried.  We ordered several other dishes, as the portions are so small, but nothing to write home about.  End up when the bill came, we were in for a nasty shock.

The service was awful.  The waitress asked us what we wanted to drink, and we asked her for the drink menu.  When we asked for spoons to share the desserts, after a long wait she brought one spoon, and it was another 10 min before we can flag down someone to bring us more spoons.  Also, she brought something we didn't order and still billed us for it after we pointed out the mistake.

Finally a place that rises above the stunning mediocrity of Ft Lauderdale restaurants.
Our reservation was promptly acknowledged and we we're seated in the room with the big golden Buddha.
We ordered a few small plates and split a main course.
All were quite good and filling and reasonably priced.
There is another room that looks more like a night club with music that spills over to the room we were in but not too loud for comfortable conversation.
The service was efficient and friendly and way above what I have experienced in most restaurants in this town.
We usually go to Miami, Boca, or Delray for a good restaurant experience. I'm glad Dapur is in my backyard and we will certainly be back.

Not impressed at all. The places tries too hard and is a fail. We had a bunch of tapas and the only one we liked was the spicy tuna roll. The jalepeno and the cilantro blended well with the creaminess of the tuna.

Other than that, the other tapas were fair to poor. The Brussels Sprouts (a house specialty according to our too-anxious waiter)  had a nice meaty flavor but were greasy, as was the tempura crab/vegetable melange. Tempura is supposed to be as light as air, crispy and never oily. This may have been crispy, but was dense and the oil was visibly seeping out. It seems as though the oil may not have been hot enough in both cases.

We then had a "big plate" which was the crispy duck. Never in all my life have I been so disappointed with duck at an Asian (or Asian inspired in this case) establishment.  The batter was thick and cruddy and the duck had a gamey taste... yuck! Asian duck is a joy in most places that specialize in it. The side of vegetables was bland, the spicy siracha accompaniment was a just red goop, though the rice was pretty good.

Determined to give this place one last chance, we ordered the passion fruit cheesecake. It was cloyingly sweet and dense like a bad treacle pudding. Our waiter served the plate and returned with the spoons five minutes later; which gave us enough time to discover that the strawberry garnish was warm and pulpy soft ..eww.

I didn't find the decor zen at all... more all over the place... rather than evoking fusion, or balance, the items in the room seemed to fight and vie for attention... not a good look in a restaurant.

Overall, Dapur was a bland and disappointing experience. It seemed to promise much but then failed on most accounts. Not worth a second chance.

All the food was really good and the setting is very nice to match, nice to the point where it almost throws you off that the place is right off of US1, they also have a decent DJ on the weekends.

If you don't order an entree here then I guess it can be considered a tapas place. Tapas can be frustrating because it takes about 6 orders to get full, but once in a while its okay as long as the food is good and here it is, very good.

The rock shrimp (covered in some really good sauce), calamari, scallops, chicken dumplings, and dark chocolate lava were all really good and it would be tough to go back and not order the same. Again you're not going to get very full not ordering an entree but the great flavor of each dish was more than enough to make me feel money was well spent.

I'm a believer in do whatever makes you happy but it must be said that this is frequented by a more than a few gays, again I don't care but those that do need to be given a heads up.

The bar area is nice and spacious with a nice TV and separate from a decent sized eating area, there's also a separate dance area next to it. Bartenders are very nice and the valet parking is free.

It's not the best location in FTL but its one of the better options on US1 in the area and has some real quality food.

My friends and I had a great dinner at Dapur last night. Despite showing up totally unorganized and without reservations and being a large semi intoxicated and definitely loud and somewhat inappropriate group the hostess very graciously found us a table.  Our servers where super sweet and extremely tolerant of our behavior. They were also extremely helpful with suggestions and Saki recommendations.

I had the crispy duck which was outstanding. The fat layer under the skin was totally rendered and the skin perfectly crisp and well flavored. The meat was tender and aside from the leg and thigh portion was totally boneless which I love since most of the Chinese places I go to for duck just hack the duck into chunks without boning. The ceviche was on of the best I've had in a long while. It was so good that we ordered a second. I also had bites of the Pad Thai and the chicken medley. Both were very good.

The free valet parking was a nice bonus and was epecially appreciated after eating at Michy's a few weeks ago and having to pay to valet when your car is parked like 10 feet from the entrance.

The food, the ambiance, the service were all outstanding.  Can't wait to go back and try more!

The idea of Asian Tapas really appealed to me and I wasn't disappointed by the food.
There were many small plates that I wanted to try and we settled on four.
    1. Hamachi Kama (Yellowtail collar) was delicious.
    2. Miso Cod really fresh and melted in your mouth.
    3. Whole grilled squid was wonderful. As good as you get in a real japanese restaurant and we just loved it.
    4. Stuffed Tofu (stuffed with chicken) crunchy and full of flavor.

We followed with Tom Yum soup which was nice but not quite authentic and the Philippine noodles again delicious.

The bar area was enormous and so was the restaurant.
They had clearly spent a fortune on fixtures and yet the tables were just bare wood and arranged in a clutter. Really strange.

I would go back without hesitation for the food and the good service.
But maybe they could invest in tablecloths and rethink the table layout.

I've been meaning to try Dapur for months now and finally made it there for dinner last night.  The ambiance was nice - although the lounge/bar felt a bit odd.  I imagine that changes when it fills up with people later in the evening.

I enjoyed the food very much.  The spring rolls were good, although not special.  The brussels sprouts were to die for.  I'd go back for those any day.  And we each had a roll - one veggie and one tuna - which we enjoyed very much.

The service was a little uneven.  There was a parade of people back and forth to our table - our server - the person who brought the water - the other person who brought the drinks - the person who took away our plates - the person who brought fresh plates - the person who brought the food - and so on.  But then there were times when we were ready to order something or had a question and no one was nearby.  I'm guessing this was a function of the fact that we arrived for dinner at 6:30 and they obviously don't ramp up for serious service until later.  I'm not saying the service was bad  - just a little awkward sometimes.

I will definitely go back.  I'd like to check out the atmosphere later in the evening.

We were enticed by the great reviews and decided to check it out.

We ended up sitting at the bar as we didn't have much time and there was a wait for the tables.
The ambiance is strange - definitely a lounge and without music playing when we walked it it felt like we were about to eat in some large vacant shoe warehouse.
We ordered a selection of small plates from the very friendly bartender. Unfortunately, they were nothing to write home about. The scallops were tough, the short ribs like leather, the spring rolls were dripping with grease.

Despite the very friendly staff, which I rate highly, Dapur feels too much like yet another flashy hot spot trying to serve gourmet food. In my experience, you can't have both.

After hearing about DAPUR and following it on Facebook, I was delited to have been invited to dinner there a week ago.
I KNOW I'll go back, too!

First what strikes me as 5 star is the decor- 100% geared toward intimate dinning
Each place setting was perfect. Even a chop stick holder that matched was a nice touch though I'll admit some in my group didn't know what they were for.
Lighting was ideal to see my friends, the menu and table

Appetizers were varied and tasty. Not being a crab fan, what was served changed my mind

Each dish was plentiful. No one went for want

    Deserts: Delish

Service: this is where Dapur ranks far above any other place I've been to in Ft Lauderdale so far. Though we were a large group, drinks were kept filled, food came out quickly and explanations for the unaware were pleasantly offered.

Yeah, I know its not as "cutsie" as a small intimate store front but I didn't expect that from what I saw on the  web site.

Though located in what has previously been the home of many a failed restaurant, Brazil and Salute come to mind, Dapur is completely renovated and completely redecorated. However, to my mind, the interior with its patterned cement floor, huge Spartan industrial like space and very basic decor has the ambiance of dinning in an Indonesian machine shop. My other impression is that it is sort of hipster without the hip to it and somewhat trendy but with the chic portion of the trendiness lacking,

My biggest gripe, however, is that the lights were so low that I had to rely upon my Android flashlight widget in order to not only to read the menu but also to enable me to see what I was eating. I really don't like being unable to see what I am eating even though I prefer low level light when dinning. However, the lighting in Dapur was so low as to attain the point of being ridiculous. I added a couple of pictures, but only of the bar area and of the basinless men's room sinks. That is because it was so dark in the other areas, like the dinning area, that even with a flash I couldn't get a good picture.

As for the food, it's very good, large portions and reasonably priced. I started with the tempura calamari, which was nearly a meal of its own, then went on to have the lamb shank. Both were delicious and done to perfection. However, I immediately knew that I have had the same before at Galanga. My suspicion on that was confirmed when I later discovered that most of the employees of Dapur were previously with Galanga.

The service was outstanding and after placing my orders, they arrived quicker than I have ever experience at any other restaurant.

With so many great Asian restaurants within the local area my overall impression of Dapur is that it is rather lacking in comparison, mainly because of the cold cafeteria/industrial ambiance and the food, though very good, wasn't that much better so as to set it apart or above.

Wow, the size of this place really surprised me. I thought it was going to be a small intimate place, but instead, it is huge with a big lounge  and dining room. It looks small like Hermione's purse, but inside it houses tons of things.

Inside of Dapur, one will see the decor is snazzy and sleek. The lighting is romantic and overall the decor makes for a nice date place.

After being seated, my date and I decided to share a royal tuna roll and a pad thai. The service was impeccable and the server was always there asking id we needed anything. Before we knew it, the food came flying out.

The Royal Tuna Roll was clean and light; it was exactly what I was aiming for when I ordered it. The Pad Thai we ordered was solid. It did not bring us to a ratatouille moment, but it also did not send us to the bathroom. The portions were enough for two.

Overall, the food was just average, but Dapur has fantastic service and incredible decor; I would return to try other tapas.

Beware the hype of a brand new restaurant opening. I know it's tempting to run out and be the first of your friends to try a new place. You want the bragging rights. You're known amongst your peers as someone who knows all the great places to dine around town. It's tempting....don't do it.

Why? Because nine times out of ten, the restaurant is still finding it's stride and working out the kinks. That being said, I fell for it. I marched right out to dapur last night with a friend to give it a test drive. "It's the new Galanga...." they say. Now I am not a huge Galanga fan to start (more on that later) but I do love asian tapas and the friend who raved about it was enthusiastic.

Let's start with the good. In order to be a good restaurant you must have great food. On this point, dapur delivers. We tried a number of different small plates and there wasn't a loser in the bunch.

The korean bbq short ribs were great. I even picked them up to gnaw of every last bit of tasty rib meat. The rock shrimp roll and appetizer were awesome. The yellowtail appetizer was flaky, moist and delicious. I even liked the Bang Bang Scallops served over brussel sprout leaves. And I HATE brussel sprouts. The ceviche was presented in perfection. Loved it all.

The decor is well done. Save for a red booth on a purple/maroon wall. It just looked like a strange color choice considering the rest of the establishment. Great water feature outside. Funky chandeliers on the entrance. A massive gorgeous raw driftwood framed mirror when you walk in. It feels like a San Fran open air funky asian diner. There are even two rooms that have some nice partitions where I assume you can have a private event.

The table service was great. Our server was awesome. He did the best he could with the situation at hand....and here is where it's wise to wait. Apparently they were short a bartender. On a Friday night. With a packed restaurant. He was upfront and told us the scoop. However at that point we should have known to steer clear of the fancy drink menu. 30 mins later we were regretting our error. Our poor server kept checking in with us and giving us an update but dinner on a Friday night without a cocktail makes dinner guests grumpy. Another 15 mins. Finally we tell him to bring us a bottle of wine, an opener and three glasses. Oh and PS our server was just adorable but not in the "young boy twinkie" way that they are at the "other" place.

If dapur wants to attract the Galanga crowd, they are on the right track.  BUT the main reason I won't go to Galanga is slow service. And I mean EPIC slow service. Like 1:45 to eat lunch epic service slow. if dapur wants a differentiation this is the biggest opportunity they have. Eliminate this issue and they will be big winners.

And PS if worked last night I would be all up in the bartender who called off last nights business. Because, bitch, you better have been dying or run over by the Green Hopper to leave us short on a Friday night!!

I used to enjoy eating at Galanga in Wilton Manors, but I have found a new love.  It's no wonder, I enjoyed Dapur, as the wizard of Galanga has opened his own restaurant, and this is Dapur.

So I was invited by a few friends for the soft opening tonight.  Although the bar/lounge wasn't yet open, I saw the space - it's intimate yet spacious, and definitely an upscale asian theme.  If you appreciate sophisticated drinks, this is the space for you.  I had a raspberry martini and a gin/cucumber drink (forgot its name).  Although I enjoyed the raspberry martini (I had two of those), I really enjoyed the refreshing taste of the gin/cucumber drink.  Perfect for this summer!

For dinner, I ordered the Goreng noodles.  It was flavorful, not too dry, not too moist.  The noodles were a fine vermacelli.  At our table, I sampled the sea bass (inexpensive for what you get), the Korean BBQ spare ribs, and oxtail soup (flavorful, and delicate in flavor).  To finish off, I had a taste of the passionfruit custard pie as well as the chocolate cake.  The pie was not overly sweet and was well balanced.  The chocolate cake was a surprise.  I expected super sweet, but it was not.  It was moist, just enough sweetness and tender!  I should have asked the owner where he got the coffee because it was rich, and bold.

The service was excellent.  The staff was attentive and knew their stuff.  Overall, service was great, food was flavorful (and well balanced) and the atmosphere was inviting.  I'll stop by there tomorrow to check out their bar & lounge and likely will enjoy that as well!
