Visiting from Austin and came on a Monday to the open mic night with my coworker who likes to play the blues.

Definitely a dive bar but it actually has some great style. I thoroughly believe the bar set up as it is now would be very popular with an Austin crowd but as it stands it is located in the partially abandoned downtown Corpus.

The house band that was on stage was actually fantastic and I enjoyed the acts. The people watching were very friendly as were the bartenders. Check it out without any preconceptions and you will have a great time.

Started charging cover years ago late into the night and morning for very mediocre bands, big fart. You CAN see great bands here, and the atmosphere will be dirty, stinky, and fun as any bar should be. Not many people stuck with it the last few years though. If you catch it on a magical night you can still smell the cigarette smoke while relaxing in the movie theatre seats listening to some great blues.  I hope you do my friends, and tell Squirrel I love him.

This place is a dive blues bar.  I LOVE a dive blues bar.  I love everything about it, but I especially love good "gut bucket" blues.  Then there's Dr. Rockits.  Bands routinely don't get started until 10. (They advertise an 8pm start time).  The bands regularly play a 3-4 song set, and then are absent for an hour or more.  They don't even try to put on a good show. I have seen this repeated by several bands there.  I really don't mind paying a cover for live music, but at least PLAY some live music!  The bartenders/waitresses congregate behind the bar and talk among themselves for HOURS.  They don't get out and take orders.  3 girls (waitresses?) last night camped out behind the bar all night long talking and grooming themselves.  Yes, grooming themselves behind the bar.  One of these lovely tattooed mamas even PUT HER DEODORANT ON HER SMELLY PITS BEHIND THE BAR!!  She also applied make up, and later another one of the classy honeys put lotion on her hands.  All the while they were stroking their long black manes.  SICK!!  The bartender couldn't make a martini to save her soul (put triple sec in my martini. Who does that?)  Also ordered a glass of cabernet.  The bottle had turned weeks ago.  If you go here, stick to bottled beer.  They can't F that up.  Can they?  Maybe.  There is no management or boss type around.  There is no organization or direction,  There are no crowds. I honestly don't know how this hole stays open.  It must be a hobby for an owner with deep pockets.  It is a true shame.  This place could be great with a little help.  It's the only blues place that I know of in the area, outside of Houston.  Until I hear differently, I won't be back.

Nothing special here from my experience. Kinda dirty, too. But if you're a born and bred Texan, you probably won't notice.

one of the best local venues for live music. the bartenders are nice, friendly and they don't ignore you.

this is my go-to place when i want to go out and have a few cocktails with the girls. the bands always fucking kick ass, the drinks are strong and like i said, the staff is stellar.

since i seem to be the only "local" on here that doesn't review Port A or BFE locations, hit up Dr. Rockit's Blues Bar if you love live music and want to be treated great.
