The Tuesday night seafood happy hour is a keeper. The beer selection is limited, but usually has something worth ordering. The staff is hit or miss.

Went with my buddy and his family for his birthday. We had a big group, but the staff were accommodating enough to put a few tables together outside on the patio for us. It was pretty noisy and crowded inside, but it looked like a great bar scene. Anyways, awesome menu, good beers on-tap, and excellent service.

Great raw bar happy hour on Tuesday. Their chicken wings are also very good.

    Love this place!

I love them for their Tuesday night wet bar specials.  Oysters, clams, mussels, shrimp for cheap... and they taste fresh and delicious. Try their crab cake sliders... yum.. They have a great selection of beer, wines and mixed drinks, too.

Service is great, food is excellent.  highly recommend.

Good local bar.  Pretty good beer selection, and the food does the trick for what it is.  If you're looking for gourmet this is not your place, but if you want a laid back atmosphere with good comfort food this is the place.

Came here for lunch on the weekend while visiting.  When you just walk in this odd smell hits you, but then you get used to it.  It's kind of dark inside during the day, but there are plenty of tvs at which you can stare.  I got the egg quesadilla off of the brunch menu.  The entree was good, the service was fine too, but the drink I ordered was awful.  I don't remember the name, but it's also on the brunch menu and it had red wine in it I think.  Another person at our table ordered and we both thought it just shouldn't be made.  We agreed we should have gotten mimosas.  Waitress was also happy to split our tabs.

Since I live in DC, coming out to the burbs was refreshing.......eh after I experienced I-66 traffic. Just arriving in the neighborhood made me happy. Points to this location for being tucked away in a nice little area. Even more points for having ample parking, and more points for it being free. Next, I have a special place in my heart for places that have even just a few tables outside, so I can sit and enjoy a cold beer, summer air, and cool breeze. Inside this place isn't huge, but that makes it kinda cool. A restaurant or bar you can come to with a touch of intimacy. Good for a small group or two old college buddies wanting to get a drink at a bar or a couple who just wanted to go out and watch the game in some regular clothes. So apparently Monday is 50 cent wing night. The buffalo wings leave a little to be desired, but they're large wings and only 50 cents so pretty decent. The spicy honey wings, pretty new and different, also 50 cents on Mondays so a win here. Happy hour offers something around $4-5 wine, $3 rails, $2.50 miller lite bud lite, and $3 microbrew of the month. This month was a strawberry wheat beer which was pretty darn good. The soup didn't look like something I would want to order, but the sliders looked great. What really made this place for me was the service. I thought it was great, especially since we were a large group, the waitress we had was the only one servicing our entire group. I can't recall her name, but to the waitress with the cute little hoop nose ring, you rock. Good at your job, great smile, very friendly. I'd definitely come back here.

My most recent of many, many, many visits to Dogwood was last night for my debut happy hour as the Northern VA CM! It was a rockin' good time, with plenty of friendly faces out to share wings and grab a few brewskies. I love the cider that Dogwood has on tap, and they also do a monthly microbrew for like $3 during happy hour! This month (June) is a strawberry ale and it was oh-so-good, albeit not particularly strawberry-y.

Dogwood's honey pepper wings are really delicious too, personally I thought they blew the regular buffalo out of the water! And mad props to our waitress, Jen, for dealing with people coming in and out for HH so well. She was a champion.

I normally frequent Dogwood's Sunday Brunch, which includes an AYCE omelet and waffle bar, with bagels & lox, fruit, and various toppings as part of the spread too. So delicious, and a pretty good value too. You always think you're going to be able to eat an omelet AND a waffle AND a bagel... and you're always wrong. But that doesn't stop you from trying!

I continue to be a big fan of this local Falls Church bar. Give their Virginia Mac & Cheese a try, too!

Holy Cheapness.  A bar and food tab that comes out to 11.99?  What did I have?  I had a plate of 10 wings ( yes, Wednesdays is wing night), a vodka diet coke, and a beer.

11.99 - are you out of your mind! I usually spend that on just the dinner.  So how were the wings.  Pretty good.  I have a wing issue though.  I compare all wings to Hard Times wings and I haven't met a wing that is close to Hard Times yet.  But, I would suggest their honey pepper wings.  The name is a little deceiving as I tasted no pepper, but the sweetness was there. The ranch/blue cheese dressing they served them with was great.

One of my friends had the pasta carbonara which looked a little on the sadder side.  I would say this place is a solid place to get a drink.  They're not blowing anyone out of the water - especially with their strawberry beer that doesn't taste anything like strawberries.  But the wings are good, the tap is flowin', and the company was great.  They also have a large outdoor patio which I'm sure is hoppin' once true summer blooms.

First off, I really like the vibe here. I could tell it was my kind of place as soon as I walked in the door. They have a good selection of beer on draft and in bottle, a simple menu, and good service. Our waitress was really nice and knowledgeable of the menu. The hot wings and the pepper honey wings are both very tasty and the potatoskinadilla (not really sure how it was spelled) was really, really good. It is a quesadilla with mashed potatoes, green onion, bacon, and cheese just like a loaded potato skin. Awesome!

Although we didn't order and entree I would really like to back here and try. The flat iron steak sounded so delicious. I could also see myself just hanging out in here and drinking a few beers once in a while.

Love this place for a great salad or burger. Awesome and unique mixed drinks. The brunch is fantastic! It's a little loud at night, but otherwise is pretty normal for a restaurant.  This has become our regular hangout for quick and casual dining.  I took away one star because they don't take reservations, which can be difficult if you have a larger party

I've eaten here twice and had two completely different experiences.

The first time I ate here I ordered a chicken wrap (I think it was the pesto wrap) with a salad instead of fries. It was so good! the chicken was actually moist which is a huge pet peeve of mine and the side salad was great - it even had fresh corn on it!

...and then I went back. I started with the quesadilla appetizer which comes with "fire roasted salsa," avocado, and sour cream. For an upcharge you can add "grilled veggies," chicken or steak. I opted for grilled veggies. ok, for starters there was almost no cheese in the quesadilla which meant it wouldn't even hold itsealf together. Now, to be fair, that can happen when there is just a lot of other toppings...and there were a lot of veggies. but I literally removed all the veggies on one piece and was left with 5 pieces of shredded cheese (yup, I could count it). And the "grilled" veggies were soggy, sauteed veggies. don't call them grilled unless they're grilled. it makes a huge difference in the flavor and texture. the guacamole is so processed it hasn't browned two days later and the "fire roasted" salsa is clearly from a can - granted these two things wouldn't bother me at all if I was remotely happy with the main thing on the plate.

Then I ordered the carbonara pasta, which the waitress said was really good. bonus points for the pasta not being over cooked - it was exactly what most Americans would call al dente. but the taste of the pasta was just...not good. I honestly can't even explain it, it just had this weird, unappetizing, unrecognizable, not-food taste. There was a lot of ham and a tiny bit of bacon in the carbonara...but it didn't even do much for the flavor.

Overall, both dishes were edible but seriously disappointing. I took home the leftovers and will try to eat them...but only b/c I'm p*ssed that I spent $30 on this meal.

    Service:
Wait staff was good the first time and great the second time. The hostess and food runner both seemed like they couldn't care less about what they're doing and weren't particularly helpful or friendly. But the waiters were good and that's what actually matters

probably won't be going back. 1.5 stars.

Right along Broad Street in Falls Church, there is this little tavern nestled in between a variety of other shops and a CVS.

I have often enjoyed drinks with coworkers or a quick lunch here and know my way around the menu.  Personally, I care for the Oyster Poboy with extra sauce.  If I don't want something quite that healthy (har har har), I will order the Virginia Mac and Cheese.  Both are totally okay and pretty predictable.  Kind of what you are looking for during a work lunch.

If this place weren't so convenient, I'm not sure that I would ever go, but it is certainly a fine place for a quick meal or drinks.

I've been going to the Dogwood Tavern since before it was the Dogwood Tavern.  Its been around for a couple of years now, and it seems that this place is going to last.  I frequently go there for Happy Hour, and while the prices are more than other local places the atmosphere is cozy and the food is always good and consistent. Its a small place and can get quite busy around dinner time, so I'd recommend getting there on the early side for happy hour so that you can get a seat at the bar or at one of the high top bar tables.

I don't usually go here for dinner - just drinks and appetizers.  But this is one of my favorite bars.  It has such a warm, cozy atmosphere and the waitstaff is excellent.  Everyone is so friendly and goes out of their way to make you comfortable.  And the drink prices are awesome...

I've gone here for brunch once and had the breakfast burrito - very good.

4.25 Stars!  Recently came here for a get together with friends.  I've been here numerous times and I am always quite pleased.  Great service.  Attentive servers and bartenders.  Very cozy and warm atmosphere.  One half of the restaurant is for sit down dining complete with a real fire place, the other side is like a bar with high top seating and plenty of tv's to watch sports.

Recently, my friends and I ordered appetizers - which we shared so I was able to sample a few things, and had a few drinks.  Live swing band began about 10pm.  I really want to come here for brunch sometime.  I've heard great things.

I will continue to come here!

Love that this place is within walking distance.  Good beer on tap, good food (especially burgers) and plenty of tvs to watch the game on.  This place feels like a more grown up version of Ragtime.

Considering I've tried all the other sister restaurants to Dogwood (Rhodeside, William Jeffery's Tavern & Ragtime) I find it hard to believe this place is associated with the others. It is by far the worst.

Had the crabcake sandwich, which literally contained a nickel sized dollop of sauce on the bun. Watched my whole family eat their entire meal before a ramekin of sauce was brought out to the table. Had to be content with eating crappy waffle fries that were already cold when they arrived at the table.

The kicker was that the server informed us that we would have to have the 20% gratuity added to our bill because we had a party of 6.... 5 adults plus a two-month old newborn. Fucking ridiculous and it's sad cause the server would have ended up with a higher percentage tip if hadn't said that, but to charge for a baby who ate nothing is pretty cheap and low class.

Normally, WJT and Ragtime are great... I'll stick to those restaurants and have no desire to visit this one again. Piss poor.

We love this place, and we mostly come here for late dinners and brunch. Everything is wooden, and I am admittedly a sucker for places like that. There's a fireplace and everything. You can't go wrong with that kind of decor. Their nachos are also very amazing. While it's not fine dining, it's pretty good bar food. The staff is also very nice and patient. It's a good place to come if you want to watch sports and drink beer.

Date night with my wife on a weekend:

I can't say anything bad about this place - it's solid and its best quality is versatility. I can take my wife to date night here, and it's classy enough. I can take my entire family here, and it's kid-friendly enough. I can watch the game on Saturday here with the guys. Great atmosphere, tasty and interesting dishes, and a nice variety of beer.

I can see myself spending a lot of time here.

Quite impressed with the dinner me and the Wifey just enjoyed here last night. We had been to brunch previously and were pleased so trying the entree options seemed in order. The apps on special of jerk chicken skewers were quite good. Juicy and spicy but not overwhelming. A perfect starter that whet the appetite for the main course.

The flat iron steak I had was cooked perfectly. Pink in the center and even more tender than I expected. Paired it with a baked sweet potato that was the perfect size to not overwhelm the meal. The grilled vegetable skewers that come with the meals are a great idea. They worked great with the steak since it meant I had grilled onions and peppers to enjoy with the beef.

Wifey ordered the surf and turf combo which she paired with the bacon wrapped scallops that I got to enjoy. Scallops are always tricky but these were spot on. Tender and warm and definitely not overdone. Her filet was cooked perfectly also.

Finished with the cherry cobbler and ice cream. Best part was the portions were perfect in that we ate well but we were by no means stuffed at the end of the meal. Totally a meal that exceeded my expectations going in. A very pleasant surprise. Will definitely return again to try the main courses. #realdinner

Our first visit to the Dogwood was flawless!  Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with wine recommendations and we happen to visit on a Tuesday night which others have already mentioned, is when they offer the fantastic, incredibly affordable raw bar specials.

We had the steamed mussels which were in a delicious garlic broth  and the steamed shrimp which were large and flavorful.   The highlight of our evening was a $9 appetizer that is offered every night - shrimp and grits.  Wow.  Let me say that again - wow!  Perfectly grilled shrimp and diced pieces of smoked Virgnia ham atop a bed of perfectly prepared grits and accompanied by a slightly spicy (more like "zingy") gravy.  Excellent dish!

Dogwood Tavern has some new groupies!

I go here mostly for the beer and atmosphere. I've tried the raw bar and the food, which I thought were just "OK". Nothing to brag about. Being in Falls Church, the crowd is more mature than say an Arlington bar on a weekend night. To be honest, this place is just really convenient and not pretentious, so it's a nice place just relax and have a few with a group of friends. Usually live music on the weekends.

Mad Fox is just down the street, which I think they have better beer and better food, but the atmosphere is just different. Check that out also.

I thought it only fair that if I write bad reviews I should also write about the places that I love.

On Tuesday nights they have a wonderful special. $7 lb and a half crab legs and other seafood for $3. I almost hate to tell you, because it's less for me.

The service is great and the ambiance is just what you would want in an upscale casual sort of way.  I highly recommend it :)

I don't know much about NoVa, but when the NoVa Yelp CM recommends meeting at a place, you tend to just take trust the choice.  I am so glad that I did!  I met Kimberly here for lunch and got a salad so big I had to pack it up and take it with me.  It fed me that night as well! lol!  What was it?  None other that the succulent, fresh, perfectly-summery Scallop Salad.  Before you ask what the big deal is, let me jump right in with one, beautiful compound adjective for said scallops: BACON-WRAPPED.  Get it now?  AMAZE-BALLS!

It was the perfect place for lunch, with more options than you can imagine. The place gets a knock of a star only because it was so dark in there.  For the middle of the day, I want a little more light, even if it is a tavern.  It didn't do much for me in terms of ambiance, but really - who cares much when the food is this good?  I am definitely a fan! If I am in the area again, I am going back... Might even get the same exact lunch. lol!

This is still our favorite local bar, and actually has grown to become a favorite restaurant to bring friends and relatives when in from out of town.  It's been hard to find reasonably-priced staple restaurants in the McLean/Falls Church area with some character, great food, and a fun vibe, and Dogwood has very clearly filled the gap.

A few regularly ordered items include the Dogwood Chicken Sandwich (always perfect) with pasta salad, and the delicious and huge nachos.

Happy hour is Monday to Friday 3-7, if they have it on tap don't miss Bell's Oberon Hefeweizen. Raw bar Tuesdays are an amazing deal on oysters, shrimp, and crab, and definitely a solid weeknight to come here.

The patio is the perfect spot to chill out on a nice day, and the inside has plenty of TVs for watching sports while still offering booths for more intimate meals and conversation.  One note: if you bring your dog, you can sit outside in the front but not in the back patio, so make sure you're waiting for a table in the right area.

Kind of a douchy crowd at the bar in the evening - not my scene.

Only incident to note was the bathroom fiasco - c'mon, really, a drinking establishment of this size and a bathroom with one toilet? There were two girls closeted in the bathroom for quite a while (we all know how girls like to pee in pairs).  Anyway, these two girls come out and the bathroom stank like a half-dozen 300lb truckers had gorged themselves at an all-you-can-eat Indian buffet, drove cross country, held it in, and pig-piled on the toilet - it was completely befouled, and they say guys are bad!  Really girls?

Class comes in all shapes and sizes, and locations!

4 stars simply for the raw bar happy hour which lasts from 4pm to close on Tuesdays.   It's $3.49 per 1/2 dozen oysters, 1/2 dozen shrimp, 1/2 dozen clams, and dozen steamed mussels.  They also have $7 2 snow crab clusters.  Such a good deal! The Bluepoint oysters were delicious and the crab clusters were very meaty!

I also got the drink of the week, which was a strawberry mojito and it was so good! They have daily specials on beer, wine, cocktails, etc.  After our seafood, the bf and I split a burger.  The burger was alright, but just what I needed after all the yummy seafood.

I will definitely be back on Tuesdays for some more yummy shellfish :) O and I totally agree that the waffle fries are delicious!

I remember back when this place was a tacky dive bar and was so glad to see it reopened as a nice place to go and get good food.

I have been probably about a dozen times and the food never disappoints. My husband has tried a few different beers and likes the selection there. I usually stick to a chicken wrap with the waffle fries. Delicious!

Last time we went there was a raw bar (Tuesday) which my husband and dad tried, both were pleased with their plates.

Great appetizers. Good service. Can get fairly busy, especially on a Friday night.

Went here on a random Saturday with 3 other friends.

We had a cute little table in the restaurant area, and ordered drinks and appetizers.
My friends ordered a plate of oysters which were fresh, large, and delicious! I ordered a side of waffle fries and the crab cakes/sliders appetizer. The sliders were delicious, and the crab cakes were yummmmmmmay.

We originally wanted seating at the bar but it was too crowded for a party of 4 to sit. I'm not sure if it was a busy night or if it was always like that, but we ended up sitting on the restaurant side. (Unfortunately next to a family after already being tipsy and being loose with the f-bombs =X )

I'd certainly come back to check out their All you can eat oyster Tuesday specials, because i hear it's a great deal without skimping on the quality =)

This is a killer hole-in-the-wall place.  First of all, bar none, this place has the best nachos in Northern VA and I am obsessed with nachos.  Consider me a nachuoso; you can trust my opinion.

Secondly, the wings, sliders, and all other appetizers are all awesome.  This is just such a great bar food type place...it has a cozy atmosphere as well.  I've never had the brunch, but I've heard that's pretty solid as well.  If you need a good sports bar to go to that's not too crowded, hit up Dogwood...

I've been here two times ... once on a random Saturday and most recently on a Tuesday night - when Dogwood's infamous raw bar happy hour takes place.  Oooo weeeeee, is all I have to say.  $3.50 for half a dozen raw oysters, steamed mussels, or half a pound of shrimp.  $7 for two snow crab clusters.  Needless to say, we were "those people" that night ... trying to stay modest by only ordering 1- half dozen per person at a time :P  It was a tad obvious that the waitress abhores Tuesday nights, but she was attentive as possible, considering that she was manning tables inside and outside (we got a lovely table on the cozy patio outsdie).  Definitely will be back!!

PS. the regular menu is scrumptious as well :)

This place is definently underrated. If you order certain menu items, they have a terrifici lunch! I never have gone for dinner so I can't comment on that.

But for lunch, I've gone back to order the blackened chicken ceasar wrap with the buffalo pasta salad about 15-20 times. You can get waffles fries (also good) instead of the buffalo pasta salad, but I wouldn't. It's awesome. I tried to make the buffalo pasta salad myself once after eating it and did not really get close. As you can tell, I like it a little bit. Other than that, most of the sandwiches are pretty good and they have a solid beer selection. Definently above average bar food.

More of a grab a bite and beer with a couple friends type of place to me than a sit down restaurant. Generally good staff, service, and atmosphere as well.

I picked this place for a group of friends to gather for a Friday night happy hour since we had a friend in town.  I was the first to get there and asked if we could put two tables together and the hostess said no because not all of my party was there - ok, fair enough but then everything went south from there:

Decent beer selection and HH specials on drinks but none on apps - and they're all $9 or more.  We're in a recession people!  They would only do 2 separate checks out of our whole tab - separating sucks - I've been there - but thats the name of the game.  And for cryin out loud their fries are ALWAYS cold.

But the clincher would be when I saw another table opening up and asked the person standing there if it was available and he refused.  I wasn't sure if he was staff or I was accidentally stealing a customers table out from under them and he confimed he was the general manager.  And then the iron entered my soul.  Why dude?  Because there was no wait or line at the door?  Because 12+ people crowded around a tiny four top looks cozy?  Because we were all 20 somethings?  Our crowd was eating AND drinking too - not splitting a pitcher of water and oyster crackers.  And even if we were...where in the heck is your customer service?  It frankly ruined the rest of my night - I just felt guilty the rest of the time we were there with people playing musical chairs and not having a place to eat or drink.  Ugh makes me mad all over again - I'm never going back!
