Good neighborhood pub indeed! Â We all know how much I love this particular neighborhood, and Dougherty's is exactly the kind of place that belongs here. Â It's simple and basic, nice relaxing decor, and booze and food. Â No frills, no gimmicks, just a neighborhood hangout.
We came here Sunday for some drinks and to exchange Christmas presents, our server was really friendly. Â The downside is the TVs aren't strategically placed, so you have to pick your spot well if you're looking to catch a game, but that's not terrible. Â I haven't tried the food here, but I probably will have the chance as I'm coming back.
Cheers!
I love this place. Â It's a great neighborhood bar. Â The staff is wonderful, the owners are truly invested in the quality of the business, and it's a great local crowd. Â The food is delicious and comes in large portions. Â I'm sad the Guinness Ice Cream had to go, but still, love the place.
Review Source:2012 Review #300:
Our only experience with Dougherty's was not a very pleasant one, but it had nothin to do with the bar. Nonetheless we weren't wanting to run back too soon but a group of people wanted to go. It's a dive, but it's not a creepy dive. It's the type of place that makes S Broadway interesting and I hope doesn't get razed for a fancy wine bar.
Basics:
Daily drink specials.
Large space.
Nice bartenders.
Billiards.
Female and male differentiated restrooms. I point this out because I somehow didn't catch this at first. Whoops.
Food menu until late. Including super spicy Irish nachos. They were strangely cold, though. We also tried a crab cake, which was better than I was expecting.
Dougherty's also has Hammerschlagen, a very German game with a high potential for bodily injury, which also means it's fun and good for a crowd. I'd never played before so maybe this is one of the few places in Denver to offer it. All around, this is a good, down to basics place that's refreshing in the onslaught of shiny new offerings.
