I'll start by saying that, as dive bars go, Brody's is great. Â I have been there a few times and enjoyed myself. Â However, after last night I will never go back. Â
My gf and I stopped in a little after midnight, sat at the bar, and were served immediately. Â As other reviewers note, there is an eclectic, alternative sort of crowd there which I usually enjoy. Â We had come from a nice dinner and were dressed nice, possibly making us stand out. Â At any rate, I was at the bar, conversing with my gf with my back to a group of girls. Â I didn't see it, but my gf told me one of the girls was repeatedly acting like she was hitting or stabbing the back of my head. Â I turned, politely tapped her on the shoulder, and asked if I had done something to offend her. Â Within seconds, I was surrounded by several angry men, saying that I was threatening her and I needed to leave. Â I told them it was fine, but the manager got in my face and threatened me. Â They didn't even want to hear what really happened. Â As I left, I was followed down the street by several men, and probably would have been jumped had a kind bouncer from Tate's not pulled me inside.
As my girlfriend closed the tab with me outside, she said she was also verbally abused and threatened. Â The bartender apologized, and actually said, "I knew something like this might happen." Â Not sure what that means, other than being judged by our apparel in a room full of dirty rednecks and butch lesbians. Â I have always enjoyed the gay community for their acceptance of all people, but this was clearly not the case.
Moral: Â don't go to Brody's if you look like a normal, respectable member of society. Â They don't take kindly to outsiders.
I'm a big fan of Brody's. Â It's a dive bar full of all walks of life. Â The first time I stopped by was just for a couple quick beers on the patio. Â Super cheap! Â The next trip to Brody's lasted much longer. Â It was the last stop during a Birthday Crawl. Â Like I mentioned before, the crowd is diverse and it rocks. Â Everyone seemed to get along like we were old pals. Â Drinks were bought for strangers and a DJ made an appearance later in the night. Â I think I danced with the new bar pals. Â It's starting to come back to me. Â Yep, fairly sure there was dancing...and bellowing out old rap songs. Â Nice. Â
 Â
The staff is very friendly and they are fairly hip on their shot knowledge. Â It's not Lemon drop, lemon drop...Bueller, Bueller. Â My bar tab would suggest that I really loved a particular Christmas-y shot with Peppermint schnapps and perhaps Bailey's Irish Cream. Â Mmmm. Â Also, Jello shots for a buck and Modelo Especial cans for $2. Â Dangerous and wonderful mix. Â I'll be back!
Super Sweet bar staff and amazing drink specials...$1 jello shots downtown? Concoctions like Pudding shots? Pumpkin bombs? SAY WHA??? :) Â Has a real neighborhood feel, reminded me of my beloved Philly taverns back home. Â One minus it is on the smallish side so if you gave with a HUGE group seating is limited.PS: The bathrooms are REALLY really nice!
