Creepiest experience since moving to IL... who would have thought it would take place in Skokie?
Let me start by saying, I'm accustomed to being carded. I'm 5 foot nothing and I have a young face. So, it isn't "being carded" shock.
I popped in while I waited for my hubby to get off of work and they DEMAND to see my ID before I sat down or they said hello. I politely handed it to the bartender, she then does the look up/look down/look up/look down/look close/look far etc. for a good 10-30 seconds then rudely asks,
"How old are you?"
I reply, "29"
(this is where my weird out reflex is turned on)
2 other individuals are now standing behind between me and in front of the exit
Me: "Is there anything wrong? Â Is there anything wrong with my ID?"
Bartender: "I'm just askin'!"
Me: Â (She is still holding on to my ID.) It is real.
Bartender: (Still holding on to my ID and is silently staring at me.)
She then hands me my ID back, I put it in my wallet, and turn around, and walk out. The bartender calls after "Yer gonna get that at any bar around here" (not a true statement, my husband works in the neighborhood).
Here's where we reach Defcon 6 on my Weird-as-hell-meter..
The 2 men who were standing behind me start trailing after me, and educating me on the neighborhood, about minor's buying cigarette's, and how it's the law.
Totally freaked out at this point (and hurrying out the building), I inform them that I worked in law enforcement 5 years ago and I understand. Â Just like she can be rude to me, I can leaving with out giving a place my business. AND THEY CONTINUE FOLLOWING ME AND "EDUCATE ME" ALL THE WAY OUT THE BUILDING AND PARTLY DOWN THE STREET.
So, so, so Weird... I Do Not recommend patronizing this place.
