    Still amazingly awesome.

Always great staff, super selections and a friendly, unique crowd.

Best non-NOLA bar on the face of the planet.

I have been coming for years. Great rotating list of beers. I know some people have mentioned that the bartenders scoff at cocktails, but I have never had that experience. Mike makes me lovely margaritas and one of the women that works over the weekend actually brings in fresh herbs for special drinks. Plus you can smoke out back and they air GOT.

I know it has taken me forever to go to E&O, but I finally made it. Better late than never, right? I have to say this dive bar impressed me. If I had to choose between its grittier West side neighbor, The Scurvy Dog, or E&O, I will choose E&O every time. It is bigger, more open, and, believe it or not, cleaner.

Like the Scurvy, though, you're going to get a chuckle if you order a cocktail (don't even try for a martini), and you have to position yourself to be able to read the chalkboard beer list. But, that's ok. E&O makes no apologies for what it is, and that makes it cool.

There is a great selection of beer on draft, and there is plenty of seating at the bar or tables along the walls. If all the seats are filled, don't worry, there is plenty of open space for standing around.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Wednesday night Ladies Night where all draft beers are $2-2.50. Amazing. Pair a couple of brews with a couple of $2 tacos from Poco Loco, which is almost always parked across the street, and you have yourself a wonderful Hump Day evening.

Can you believe this place exists??? Great addition to so-bro... Love the back patio. Come by, ask for me and have a great time.

Amazing place for people watching, pinball, and fun thursday nights with the gentlemen sound system.
Drinks are well poured, though the bartenders need to coordinate their checking of ids. The last time I went the female bartender was supposed to be in charge of checking ids when people approached the bar, she ignored me leaving mike to take my order then he handed me my drink and suddenly asked if my id had been checked, wouldn't it be too late by then as I have my 'gansett in hand?

Great little dive bar in the Federal Hill Area!

The best part about this place is half off draft for the ladies on Wednesdays and just when you think it can get better, you have been mistaken! Wednesdays also happen to be the day the Poco Loco Taco Truck is usually right out side the bar. They do not serve food so you can bring food in and can not think of anything better than half off drafts and tacos!

If your looking for a classic dive bar I would definitely recommend checking out E&O.

If you enjoy being squished in between hipsters who will give you dirty looks all night be my guest and come on down to this dive! Far too much plaid, black rimmed glasses and beards for my taste. This place is too cool for me.

Small dive bar - so obviously i loved it. Come here with no expectations and you will have a great time. There is beer, a few tables, a clean bathroom but not much else. Then again, what else do you really need?

This is the R-Bar (NOLA) of Providence - or as close as state laws will allow us to get.

The best sort of dive bar:
-great bartenders (you will occasionally find one or more of the talented Van Norstrand sisters, or father, behind the bar, as well as one of the owners - Mike Kelly),
-no real threat of being shanked,
-community minded (they host cook outs for the WBNA!),
    -movies streaming during slow hours,
    -an occasional out-of-the-park live band,
-AND a totally amazing-dive-bar-outdoor-back-yard complete with abandoned chairs and mixed matched tables!

Great for people watching - and you'll probably make a new friend or two.  Every time we come, there are other regulars and non-regulars who have had just enough to engage in the most friendly and interesting conversations with complete strangers.  It was renovated a year or two ago, and the only thing I miss is the pool table - alas - but on the bright side - more room for that great people watching!

I always thought of this as an ok stop until the other night.

The bartenders called last call so I ordered one more beer (my 2nd drink of the night). No sooner was it in my hands when they raised and flashed the lights, yelling at everyone to get out and go home. As an ex-bartender and a current server, I understand their desire and right to head home after a long night, but Jesus Christ, call last call 15 minutes earlier!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't blame all the people I saw dipping out with full pints of beer...if you ordered, paid, and tipped for them, why shouldn't they be enjoyed?

    Top-notch neighborhood dive!

This place is amazing. A great rotating selection of beers on draft with a New Orleans dive bar feel.
Pretty much every night of the week is booming with business here & there's always some sort of event. Wednesday nights are amazing for chicks- 1/2 price drafts- and an amazing taco truck outside! They also have larger events like the recent crawboil sponsored by Abita, and also feature Oktoberfest & St.Patty's celebrations as well as others.

Every night is a celebration here when you order the "special", which is a Miller High Life bottle & shot of Tullamore Dew for only $6.

Also, they have a projector and tend to have whatever games are on for that night, as well as playing Games of Thrones and other kick-ass series. A bar after my own heart.

E&O is a cute little dive... although cute isn't really quite the word to describe it. It's a little too badass for cute.

It's one a few places in the city where I can get a Dark n' Stormy - and what better way to make the beverage better than by watching obscure films and playing some pinball? I also appreciate the good variety of beers.

There's lots of seating, so I very rarely get stuck standing up here. I also really love that there's ALWAYS a place to put your drink down. There's little ledges surrounding the place, so you can put your beer down from wherever you're standing. That's very important for when you're playing pinball!

No food here, but they have takeout menus and will let you order in.

Strongbow and Magners?  Yes, please!  E & O is a great spot to hang with your buddies and knock back a few drinks, have a few laughs and play some pool.

Be forewarned: this place can and will get packed and it's not all that big.  If you don't mind standing shoulder to shoulder with someone, then go on in and have a merry ol' time.

P.S. In my opinion, this isn't truly a dive bar.

Good beer on tap and cool people working behind the bar. Always something fun playing on the TV. Totally different vibe depending on which night you go on.

This bar shot to the top of my "favorite places" list for this reason: on Sundays at 9pm, they play Game of Thrones on the TV screens. My favorite show, and since I don't have HBO right now, this is the only place I can go to watch it. It's great - they turn on the captions and play it on the projector, and for the most part everybody watches. It's like getting drunk and watching your favorite show at home with friends, except you're at a bar. And nobody minds if you shout "go fuck yourself!" at the screen when the Lannisters are getting up to shenanigans.

There's no food, but they do have a bunch of take-away menus if you want to order in. I got a pizza (and I shared the mozzarella sticks with the bartender).

Great spot. Always something going on. Just don't stand between me and the projector when there's something exciting on screen!

Don't go to E&O expecting anything fancy, kids - there's no cocktail list, no beer list, no food. This is a down & dirty dive for those who like a stiff pour and a beer back. No frills.

I came in here on a Monday night and was astounded by how packed it was. It's a great space - lots of booths, tables, and a big tall bar loaded with bottles and draught taps. The bartender was no-bullshit and got a little disillusioned when he was asked for cocktails, but quickly warmed up as we chatted and promised to make us anything we wanted, all the while pouring shots and getting beers for the dudes in leather.

So, it's more of a biker bar with no frills at all, but I honestly liked it and it's no bullshit grittiness.

The E&O tap may be small, but it makes up for that with friendly staff, and a unique atmosphere.  Many local and micro brews are available on tap and prices are kept low.  Not sure what your looking for, the bartenders are knowledgeable and will let you sample before making a decision. Check it out.

After dropping a friend at the train station my friend and I decided that getting a drink at 4pm is an expectable thing and decided what the heck why not. Since we live in Bristol and are very unfamiliar with anything but the mall in prov I pulled out my trusty Iphone to check out what yelp had to say about the bars nearby.

Well I am so glad we decided to try out E & O tap.
Upon walking in I'll admit we were a bit taken a bad with the dim/red light and decor of the place but once our eyes adjusted we loved it.
The bartenders were super nice and kept our yummy bowl of bar snacks full and chatted with us for a bit.
    Love this dive bar!

Great bar, would so go back again!

E&O is stop #2 on my favorite West Side pub crawl, immediately preceded by the Avery, and when it closes, succeeded by Scurvy.

    Let me tell you why.

Stop #2 is always a dive bar. I'm relaxed, a little tipsy, and ready to slump down in a chair with a well-priced beer and chat with a friend or two. Now, there has been some discussion about whether or not E&O is a dive bar. I say, let wikipedia decide:

"Dive bars generally have a relaxed and informal atmosphere--they are often referred to by local residents as "neighborhood bars," where people in the neighborhood gather to drink and socialize."

E&O is MY favorite neighborhood bar. Informal, relaxed: YES. But with some extra flair. Wanna watch a soundless screening of THEM!, a sci-fi B-movie about an attack of giant ants, while you sip your High-life? Wanna listen to 90's east-coast rap while you enjoy one of their 14 beers on tap? Or would you rather sink into a dark booth next to the pinball machine and just listen to the dull roar of happy people around you? Then COME HERE! The best dive I know!

I really liked my visit to E&O and wouldn't think twice about returning for the following four reasons:

    1.  The beers on tap were pretty fantastic.  I'm not a beer snob by any means, but I DO like seeing some more interesting varietals on offer, and this place had em' in spades.  Mama had herself an Abita or two and was pretty happy to groove to the..

    2. Decent music selection.  No one batted an eye when it switched from Queen to Heart to Boyz2Men.  That's sort of what it is like when you're riding in the car with me, and so therefore I was a happy camper.  I also liked that...

    3. It's pretty dim in there.  There's no need for it to be super bright anywhere except when one is standing in direct sunlight (and even then, we have devices to keep our sensitive eyes from experiencing harmful rays).  I liked the fact that I could roll in E&O with some smeared lipstick, a foundation line and sweaty pits and no one around me would be the wiser.  Not that I did, but I could have.

    4. The movie screen.  In the three hours in which I last patronized the E&O, I bore witness to some fantastic cinema.  The Color Purple, y'all.  Oprah got nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.  nuff' said.

The one thing that sandpapered my nipples (and thus deducted a star), was the overall assumption that THIS IS A DIVE BAR.  This is a dive bar as imagined by one of those hipster-y *wink-wink* ideas.  As a previous reviewer noted, there are no old men playing KENO, or grumbling about the slow jamz.  This is a bar for young people with tattoos and skinny jeans (both ladies and gentlemen).  It is full of beards and craft beers, and folks trying to recall which member of TLC died.

It was 'Left Eye', y'all.  Show some respect.

Im starting to love E&O. I've been going here a lot lately and its a very chill bar.

Its a wee bit dark for my usual liking but the crowd is always mellow, cool and the drinks are pretty cheap. I've been here on weekends and its been pretty busy. The bartenders are really cool.

I've sat at this bar while shooting pickle backs(best shot ever!)  while watching an entire movie on the projector.... enough said. love it.

The E&O is a dive bar for people who claim to like dive bars but only when they are filled with other hipsters, not old men playing Keno.

On weekend nights the place is packed, but earlier in the day its a chill place to hang out. They used to project movies on the wall on weekend afternoons (they still might) which was always fun. You can get Gansett tallies for a couple bucks, and play some weird shuffleboard bowling game for fifty cents.

Ehhh... It's fine... Divey place... Not my cup of tea.

I'd been here later at night several times and enjoyed myself very much.  The crowd is a mix, the music is good, there are fun novelty games around that groups can gather around, the decor is fun (my favorite is the nice orange volume behind the bar entitled "Liver Pathology"), and as mentioned by everybody, the faces behind the bar, including Mike, Liz, and The Rev, are excellent.

But hold on a hot minute, Sport!  Wandering in on a Friday night at 5 was a revelation - an entirely different vibe, and having a place like E&O so nearly to oneself is a true treat.  I came in and ordered my Pretty Things Jack D'or.  Chatted with one other patron about homebrewing.  Was offered a sample of a recently-arrived German Kolsch by The Rev, chatted with Rev and other patron some more.  Was offered a sample of a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale by The Rev that smelled exactly like the smoky spirit I know and love, while tasting like a silky liquid caramel.  Continued enjoying my Jack D'or and the ambience, as well as the unabashed hospitality.

I could REALLY get used to this kind of end to the workweek.  And I like knowing that E&O is almost like two great bars in one - opening at 4 makes that little difference.

    Great spot.

Definitely one of my favorite drinking spots. Always good beer on tap, and the bartenders are super. I'm not "in the scene" as others have described, and I've never caught attitude.

If you like good music, good movies, and good drinks, the E&O is worth checking out.

Didn't love it. Went with friends for drinks, as it was super close to their business. Small, dark and attitude-y. Too bad, as it could be great, but I got the impression that I didn't meet the minimum daily requirement for ink here and was regarded as an outsider or some type of undesirable. Last I looked my money had the same green ink as everyone else.

Simply put there are other places to drink that are more welcoming, with at least as good a selection of beers and booze.

    I love the E&O.
Having grown up in New Orleans, it has such awesome touches and just like NOLA everyone is welcome.

I dont get the pretentious hiptser vibe, and the crowd is super eclectic.    And there is always a good selection of beer.

Granted as parents, we make it out 2x a month...  But when we do, I like the E&O, just wish it was walking distance.

Alright! 1/2 off drinks on Wed night for the laaaaadies. Friendly bartender and a great beer list with a bunch craft beers on tap. Wish there was more seating, but hey, it's a tiny place. This is just what a bar should be.

I give the E&O 5 stars in a certain category...awesome dive bar. Don't come here expecting to get a nice glass of wine in an upscale atmosphere. Come here if you want to chill out, drink a good beer (or strong mixed drink), make new friends, and chat with cool bartenders.

This place is amazing on so many levels. They have pinball and bowling. The beer selection is great and they sometimes show movies on the big screen against the wall. It can get a bit cramped and crowded on a Friday or Saturday night so I definitely prefer to go earlier in the evening (happy hour is best), or even in the afternoon. They also sometimes have English breakfast on Saturdays starting at 10 am and it's pretty damn delicious and nice and cheap.

This is another bar (similar to the Avery, and in the same neighborhood), where if you go there more than once the bartenders all remember you and what you drank last time. Highly recommended.

Love to go to the E&O for whiskey, beer and pinball.  This place CAN get crowded, in which case, the bartenders are busy, but that can be ANY bar and I don't think you can blame a place that is popular enough to be BUSY. Just make it there on an off-ish night. The people are fun/ny.  Pool can get a bit cumbersome when it's highly populated, but nothing like a pool stick to the chest to make you spill your  beer on your self.  Just adds to the atmosphere.

This really is the "peoples" bar.  Most everyone knows each other, true... but I always find some new character to talk to...

It's a fun place.. the women's bathroom is rarely occupied, so little or no wait... which I find to be a plus.

Stopped here a couple of times on trips back to RI. Great beer on tap, but like most Providence hipster bars, if you aren't a regular expect terrible service from the wayyyy too cool bartenders. The crowd is a bit too cool also. Even if they were a friendly bunch, the music is always way too loud, perfect for a bar with no substance but plenty of coooool.

This is absolutely my favorite bar in Providence!  It's a bit divey, but in a cool, hipster kinda way.  The prices are really cheap with a great variety and the bartenders are great.  Great place to hang out with friends.  For a great night right in the West End of Providence, start at Julian's for dinner, head over to Avery for a couple, and then end at E & O!

Not a dive bar, but a fun little neighborhood spot. I wish they would turn down the music so that one can actually speak to and hear one's drinking companions, and I wish they would consistently charge me the same price for the same drink. Still, it's worth the trip around the corner from Seven Stars.

if the E & O stayed open later than midnight, they'd have the ever-elusive 5th star...this is a great little place, excellent beer selection, GREAT crowd (if yer into people watching, as I am), good music and/or classic movies on the big screen and plenty of hard-fought pool-table action.
Plus, if you're lucky you can spot the stoner heading outside for a puff and nicely ask to join (if you're into that sort of thing).

This place feels like it should be in my basement...

They have an amazing tap selection- if you've never had Speckled Hen I HIGHLY recommend trying it.

Their music selection is fantastic and eclectic. Anyone should feel comfortable there, prices are reasonable and the bartenders all do a superb job and are reasonably friendly, which is quite a nice change from other places I've patronized in Providence.

They have a pool table, an old skool 45 playing jukebox, a couple of pinball machines and a couple of interesting pieces of furniture- when was the last time YOU were able to sit on a hand and drink a beer?

If you're lucky like I was one night, for your viewing pleasure they'll even have an interesting video projected on the wall. Have I mentioned the music? Seriously. If you listen to music other than (but not limited to) top 40 you'll definitely be in heaven. Again, about the bartenders, on my first visit there, Rev introduced himself to me and I didn't revisit the place for a couple of weeks, and he still remembered my name and what I'd ordered- that's the kind of service I like to see in a bar.

Welcome E & O (Early and Often)!  Finally a place to satisfy those Decatur urges... sort of.  The bar is not quite as broken in, but the staff is (can it be?) friendly!  I've accepted that rude bartenders are part of certain places' raison d'tre, ambience, shtick.  It's a little lost on me, but I resist doing anything to propagate an increase in the avoidance, obvious annoyance and unfriendliness that is sometimes a hard sell to the guests I bring along.  ANYWHO... E & O is a hip kinda dive bar and has filled the role of the Westside "Cheers", a comfort we are lucky to have.  Slip out back for a cigarette with kinsmen, and expect to tolerate the overly indulged, young and not so young, as the hours go by.

The E & O is the heir apparent to the Decatur Lounge in Providence.  It doesn't quite measure up, in my opinion, but then again, the Decatur was an icon, and the E&O is improving.  It's got a similar vibe, but in each category misses just a little:

The drinks are smaller (or more expensive, depending on how you look at it).

They have opened up the back to the outdoors a little, but apparently it's just a parking lot, not special zoning, so you can't bring your drink out.  But they have been known to have a grillman, working only for tips.

The bar itself is a little small.  The long narrow room doesn't work so well.  They probably could have improved the situation with a bar that came out a few feet less.

I haven't seen any dogs yet, so it remains to be seen whether the E&O will be dog friendly.
