I live directly across the street from this place and avoided it for over a year because I never have good luck with 24hr restaurants. So glad I broke down and gave this place a chance! Â The prices are really good and the avocado burrito, vegetarian nachos, Â and pico de gallo are all delicious! My boyfriend loves the steak and chorizo tacos with onion and cilantro. The service is friendly, which is not usually the case with some of the taquerias on Clark street. This is definitely my go to spot for tacos and burritos in Rogers Park.
Review Source:Pretty good. As soon as we sit they served chicken noodle soup and that was delicious. We ordered super taco, chicken enchilada and 2 regular tacos. It was good portion food for the money we paid. Some other place  we order food from we pay 30 bucks here we paid 18. Only thing is instead of salsa they have red and green sauce. The red one was bad kinda taste like old. Everything else taste just right. Definitely will be back. We passed the place 3 am on Friday it was still open. So if u need late night Mexican this is the place.
Review Source:Best taqueria I've been to outside of the San Francisco Mission district. Â Hole in the wall place, but they've got a very extensive menu and extremely reasonable prices. Â Love the chorizo. Â Super Tacos are loaded with meat, tomatoes, avocado, onions, cheese, and sour cream...but these are fork tacos, not walk and eat tacos...but I'm not complaining. Â Staff is very friendly too. Â And given that I usually frequent this place after an outing to one or more of the bars on the same block...I love that they're open late.
Review Source:GREAT food. Â Major language barrier here. Â I've been going here for a couple years and EVERY time I place my order to go, I look in the bag when they hand it to me and the stuff I requested is missing and I have to ask them for it again. Â At which time they typically cop a major 'tude and charge me extra for a tiny cup of salsa to go. Â Annoying service as they make me feel like I'm inconveniencing them when I patronize the restaurant. Â One should feel welcome in a restaurant and taken care of. Â Other than that if one is patient enough the food is great.
Review Source:This place, seriously CANNOT be beat when you're in a hurry, and need a tasty, sizable burrito that tastes great for a very good price. Â I have eaten here dozens of times on the way home from a night out or headed home from work. Â Just get in, get the food, get home, and savor it. Â Fresh and delicious.
Review Source:I think that the only reason this place is still in business is because of it's location right next to three bars! I guess if you're drunk, just about anything tastes good & you don't really care how you are treated by staff. The woman that took our order was quite aloof (which is fine...I think I would be too if I had her job). The wait was average (this was for take-out).
When we got home, I quickly opened my food because I was starving. I ordered the enchilada meal (beef). The first bite I took was disgusting because I heard a "crunch", which felt like dirt or something was in my food! After spitting that first bite out (yes, I was THAT hungry!), I pressed my luck again hoping for no more crunches. Luckily, that was the only one. Now that I could actually focus on the food, I realized it was quite mediocre at best. Everything was watery & just kind of bland. Even the re fried beans, which I normally love, were not very good.
My girlfriend had a steak burrito. I tasted it and it was a half step up from my meal (which does not say much). The steak was full of chewy and fatty spots which I spit out into the trash can.
Needless to say, we will not be going there again. It is disgusting!
I've always really liked this place, and it's open super late (like 4 or 5 a.m.) Â I was a regular when I regularly would stumble out of Jackhammer after doing and drinking bad things. Â Always hit the spot, consistently good, but do know this is more a taco/burrito joint than a 'full-service' restaurant. Â Last time I was there, the prices had gone WAY up (like not the incremental 25-50 cents but like a LOT), so points off for that. Â I guess if you don't raise prices for several years, makes sense that they go up mucho, but still.
Review Source:For an inexpensive taqueria, you can't get much better.
I prefer the vegetarian taco dinner which is basically an obscene feast for the money.
Kudos also for saving me from many a horrendous hangover by staying open till I come home drunk as a skunk and desperately need sustenance.
Fresh squeezed orange juice is available, and while I've never had it, the magical orange squeezing machine is a major draw.
After further reflection (and further burrito-eating) I'll say this: Â Chorrito has the best burrito in Chicago. Â Or, to be more accurate, the best burrito I've had in Chicago. Â
Why is it so good? Â I'm not quite sure. Â I can't bother much with prose composition these days (too much work) so I'll do a little verse with obvious rhymes.
Chorrito
Why is your burrito
So good? Â
I've never understood.
Maybe it's the torilla
That could be a
Reason,
Or maybe how you season
Your meat. Â (I like the pollo.)
Oh-boy-oh
Boy! Â
A Chorrito Burrito:
Joy.
husband and i are exploring clark's taqueria's from devon north. this was our first stop.
Quesadilla with chorizo. a few gristle bits in there. Too much chorizo, not enough cheese.
Picadillo (ground beef) taco. Kinda like sloppy joes, not in a good way.
Cochinita pibil taco. Perfect. With cilantro and onions. Bbq pork in a very earthy, spicy sauce.
Chochinita pibil dinner. Good. but the taco's better. Dinner doesn't come with onions and cilantro, which is what made the taco so good. Jeremy had to salt the beans. What?
Pineapple pop. Fine. But wanted tepache (pineapple beer). Out. also asked for Mexican coke. Out. not very reliable menu, eh?
Small dining room with crazy guy wanting to make conversation.
Don't think lady at counter knew much English.
salsa forgettable.
Would only come back if dying for a pibil taco.
Everything I've had here has been delicious! Â Four out of five times I've been drunk from vodka redbulls at the Jackhammer next door, but the time I was sober was still pretty damn good.
also, how can you not love the fact that it's inside a tiny greasy spoon that used to be called "Hamburger Chili"?
El Chorrito looks small and generic but in reality it is a great value. The food is excellent, the service is quick, and the price is unbeatable.
I ended up going with some friends at about midnight to grab a bite to eat. It is open very late (possibly 24 hours) but it attracts a crowd even past twelve. I started with a quesadilla which was near-perfect - right amount of cheese and steaming-hot off the grill. My main course was the pollo (chicken) gordita. For those of you unfamiliar with this tasty ethnic cuisine, a gordita is a thick soft-shell corn tortilla filled with your choice of meat, tomatoes, guacamole, and sour cream. The chicken was tender and the guacamole and sour cream made the gordita full of flavor. The food was very inexpensive.
Don't forget to use the hot sauce!
