    Restaurant Review
Great food, poor service. Maybe because we did not order alcohol, but my pregnant wife and I (the driver) did not splurge on margaritas and were given the cold shoulder by the wait staff. This was sort of off the beaten path restaurant we found on trip advisor for a mexican meal. The food itself is not amazing sort of run of the mill mexican food with average prices. I can't say that I had a memorable experience and our waiter visited our table a total of 3 times (took our order, dropped the food off, and with the tab). Next time I'll pass

    Pro- None

    Con- Poor service, average food

    Hidden deal- None

Great service poor food. Very very bland. I felt like a fried some beef and it was a meal. Apparently they can't make bloody Mary's either. Won't be returning.

Food was great!!!!  I tried ordering a call Margarita it was going to be 14.00!!! I never want to pay more for a drink then my meal. Then I ordered a white Russian a big mistake. Took three people to make it, I couldn't even drink it too much vodka the cream was floating in the top.  Bad cream I think.   Friendly staff. Nice clean restaurant.

After a long day of shopping, all that my family and I wanted to do was have a nice meal and then head home. As we pondered where to go we did not consider the date at all. Keep this in mid and the type of restaurant that this is when I tell you we went on May 5th! Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!

As soon as we walked in the door we could tell that it was Cinco de Mayo. Despite this the wait for a table was not awful at all. The hostess was very kind and kept on top of open table and as soon as they were cleared the next party was seated. The area that they have for you to wait is very small and filled quickly. This caused an inconvenience for both the staff and the customers. In the meantime though it made for great people watching while we waited.

Once seated the normality of a very busy restaurant hit. Our server was obviously very busy as it took her awhile to come and take our beverage order. By the time she got there we put in both our beverage and our food order. We were served our chips and salsa that all tables are served at the same time that we got our beverages. Our food came quickly after that but as soon as we got it our server left and we had no silverware. We ended up having to flag down another server to get us some. They were very kind about it and apologized profusely. I did not find that to be such a big issue. They had extra staff constantly circling the restaurant that would refill your beverage and see how your food was.

The food was awesome. Having lived in Florida now for several years I have had some amazing Mexican food. This was not as good as some of the restaurants that I have been to down there but considering that it is in the middle of Minnesota it was very good. The prices for the portion sizes were fair and they have happy hour everyday! Half price appetizers and $3.99 for a (lime only) margarita!

    I will definitely go back!

Also we told our server that we loved the shirt that she was wearing and we wanted to know if we could buy a couple. (they were so cute they were black with a pair of neon sunglasses and a hot pink mustache on them. Of course they were an advertisement for Jose Cuervo but who cares?!?) she said that she would go and check and when she came back she told us that they did not have any of them to sell but she gave us three free shirts (They were for Dos Equis)!

El Loro never disappoints. The food is always hot and delicious. The staff is kind and they all help each other. It feels like a real family owned restaurant.

Great food, great price, great service. Patio is very nice on a hot day with a cold drink.  Best place in Burnsville area for Mexican food.

Similar to the one in Apple Valley, but I prefer that one to this.  Not quite sure why--maybe this one is a little less warm and fuzzy than the one in AV.  No worries, though, as the food is always excellent.  Gotta love the salsa!

My fav is the chicken taquitos but the chilaquiles are also excellent.  Rice is fluffy and yummy.  Telenovellas on the TVs are a cute touch even if I can't understand what they're saying!

Quality food, decent staff, value priced.  What more can you want?

My go to place for Mexican food. I've been to the El Loro in Eagan, El Toro in Apple Valley and El Toro in Champlin and this El Loro is the best!

The food comes out quickly and the service is wonderful. That could be because El Loro of Burnsville employs one of the best services I have every met, Martin. Friendly and accommodating, Martin is one of the main reason we go to El Loro of Burnsville.

My favorite dish is the Fried Chicken Chimichangas crunchy on the outside with a layer of Mexican queso over the top, filled with a mixture of chicken and spices and served with salad and guacamole, rice or beans and of course chips and the best salsa and white sauce ever!!!

They have a great happy hour specials too that are twice a day.

If you are in the Southern Metro and hungry for some Mexican visit El Loro of Burnsville.

El Loro and El Toro are owned by the same group.  Both restaurant chains are horrible.  El Loro's chips and salsa are okay.  To many of their dishes are just ground beef in different form, but with no modification.  The only item on their menu that is tolerable is their steak fajitas.

My favorite Mexican place in the Twin Cities. The white sauce they give you with the chips is like crack, its rediculously good! The fajitas are my favorite and they are always made with great beef and marinated to perfection. Awesome happy hours and the margaritas will get you there in a hurry!

I've been craving Mexican food for a few weeks while staying in the area on business. My home is near Austin Texas which has some awesome Mexican restaurants -- so my standards may be pretty high. The service at El Loro was great, the chips and salsa were OK, the margarita was reasonably priced during happy hour and tasty if not terribly strong, and the chicken enchiladas were good.

I give a full 5 starts just for the server MARTIN! He is amazing and the SOLE reason we have continued to go back there the past 4 years:)

The food is good.. but standard. The chips and salsa are always yummy but definitely get the side of queso!

I came here the other night for their Happy Hour to celebrate my new job, lol.  It actually occurs twice a day, during regular HH time and after 8pm.  I haven't been to the Eagan location, eventhough it is closer to where I live, but the Burnsville location just screams Mexican restaurant as soon as you walk in.  You are greeted with bright yellow/orange walls, posters of Modelo and Dos Equis, sombreros, and on the night we came, even a mariachi band! Definitely unexpected on a cold night up in the North, haha.

The prices here are very reasonable, and during HH which serves drink specials and half-price appetizers, they are downright scary.  The most expensive, and best, item on the appetizer menu are the shrimp fajita nachos, which are originally $12.  If you try anything, try these.  The Mexican-style Shrimp cocktail is an amazing value as well (I got the regular size and it had no less than 8-10 huge shrimp swimming in a pico sauce inside a margarita glass), and I went ahead and got a few enchiladas ala carte just to round out the experience - 1 beef with the regular red sauce (ok) and 1 chicken with tomatillo sauce (good) - they didn't have a sour cream sauce, which was pretty disappointing.

The service itself was excellent - I was never once out of something to drink, and they kept the chips and salsa coming.  The waiters seemed to work in teams and a couple of them came to check how I meal was coming along and asking if we needed anything else.

I'll definitely be back here if only for the Shrimp Fajita nachos.  Mucho excellente hombre!

I've been to several different locations and have not been disappointed.

They have many combinations of all different mexican food staples. Excellent drinks. Excellent prices. Everything tastes really good.

I love that they have tamales. Not many places serve them at an affordable price. Also love the chips and salsa you get before the meal.

They accommodate large groups very well.

My family and all our neighbors frequent here very often. The drinks are great and the food is better! Their combo plates are valued well and the chips/salsa/white sauce are so addictive you may need an intervention. Occasionally a staff member seems to be having a bad day but maybe it's because he was cut off from the chips. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for some good Mexican and maybe a cold cerveza.

Great place, been there several time when visiting for work. I actually drive down from Bloomington it's so good - much better than the Mall of America local fare. They have a couple great dishes with tons of chorizo sausage, including nachos and a cheese dip - love that.

While the salsa you get with chips when seated isn't spicy, they have two bottles of my fav habanero sauces - red and green - on the table, which are plenty hot (use with caution) which I use to spice up the salsa and other dishes.

Generous portions of very good food on hot plates, free ice tea refills (not on all drinks) and very good service make this one of my favs in the area. A couple times it was slow to get my check and pay it, but otherwise service is great. You can't go wrong at this El Loro.

Love this place, arrived at 11:30am to meet someone for lunch and was immediately assailed by someone who sat me at the booth closest the door so I could watch the door, immediately upon sitting down I was given a pile of fresh chips and salsa, and another dip that was like a Mexican cucumber sauce (yogurt? with lime, vinegar, cilantro, chili seasonings, wild guess but, very good.  I was meaning to ask but, never did).

Huge menu.  Hunt through the Lunch specials as many of the one of a kind items are only on the lunch specials like the Chimi.  The Chimi was deep fried goodness served with rice, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce?, and possibly beans.  I had a great glass of iced tea along with it.  Cheap menu, not very crowded, great super fast service.

It's my fave Mexican place in the Twin Cities.

The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. The food is authentic and surprisingly cheap, especially during lunch (less than $7 a plate!). The patio at the Burnsville location is really nice, too.

Like the others, the El Loro - El Toro restaurants are better-than-decent Mexican food.  Good salsa, fast service, reasonably-priced, clean, and a fun atmosphere all equal 4 stars.  With the complimentary chips and salsa, they give you a side of ranchero sauce.  At this particular location, they don't have a hotter salsa.  If you ask, they will suggest a Salsa Verde.  It's a buck more than expected ;)  however, it's not exactly what I call hot, but its good.  The patio and bar look real fun for the summer.  Since they have two entrances, be sure to specify if you're meeting someone. Servers speak Spanish to you when counting back change, etc.  I like it.  Reminds me of Mexico and vacation!!
