This was a Terrible experience. We were invited to this bar by some friends. The bar
Did not carry beer that they advertise throughout the bar,So the owner asked that we go to a local mart and buy our own beer and they would keep it cold for us.
The food is good but on the high side. The local sisters that freguent this bar pee in the bathroom sink and who can only guess what goes on in the two bathrooms. The
Had a hard time even keeping heineken stocked. If you want a mixed drink good luck the guys behind the bar don't seriously know how to make a drink THEY WERE HIRED WITH NO EXPERIENCE.
If you are looking for good bar food, I highly recommend Elk Rock. The drinks are priced well and the service is average. The food is what makes this place stand out though. I think most everything on the menu is made from scratch. Everything I've tried is top notch. Definitely try the Reuben Rolls, club sandwich, and the steak salad. Breakfast is great too.
Review Source:This review is right up the middle.
Note: my review is for drink only, no one ate although it seems they make many things from scratch.
The pros:
The wells are cheap ($3.00).
The KJ was a happening guy who made it a lot of fun.
The bartender was no nonsense and made a decent drink.
The back patio is alright.
The crowd was..interesting to say the least. Saw the bartender cutting of a drunk kid.
The cons:
Said drunk kid acted like a total idiot and had to have his friends remove him AFTER he purposely crashed into the KJ podium.
Another fight broke out and it took 6 people (including the KJ and the bartender) to get him out.
Needless to say, the bartenderr was distracted all night long, but she's a tough chick!
The KJ smacked one of our friends on the ass-he thought it was cute. I don't like strangers smacking my friends ass.
The crowd was...interesting..to say the least.
Bathtroom was gross
Floors were sticky
It's off Mcgloughlin..and comes with all of those things that you would expect.
Keep it real, Elk Rock. Keep it real.
Know any bars that cook almost everything from scratch? Â In Milwaukie? Â Well these guys do!!! Â I've been here only half a dozen times but it's the same quality every time. Â They have traditional bar cuisine but prepared with care and from scratch making it the best damn bar food you're likely to get around here. Â The bar tenders are a little slow to help you if your not a regular (which I'm not) but are very friendly once they get to you. Â Reasonable quiet most the time as the regulars pack around the bar and watch TV. Â Great for a hang over breakfast or the night before so you can come back for the hang over breakfast!!
Review Source:This bar is down the street from our house, which means between here and there, there are about 40 other bars. The reason we finally stopped in was a Groupon, and we were really happy we did. We've been back 4 times since then.
Plusses:
They make most the food from scratch, so when I want to completely alter the choices they can do that no problem.
When their stove went out, they just changed the menu to what could be made on a little hot plate. I thought that was cool.
The bartender trash talked the beavers when he found out we were from OSU - I prefer light-hearted insults to fake politeness any day.
They serve breakfast all day.
It's a bar, so there are no children allowed - I like kids, but sometimes it's nice to go to an adults-only establishment.
They let us change the channel and volume to watch the games we want.
Locally-owned.
They have slow-smoked bbq and blues jams in the summer - we're looking forward to that.
It's on McLoughlin and it's not a strip-club or car lot!
Minuses:
The regulars sitting at the bar can get kind of loud. We are amused by this but others might be annoyed.
They have rolling chairs on a tile floor, so the wheels get stuck in the grooves when you try to adjust your position.
I doubt they are using grass-fed beef or organic corn on those nachos.
We love the atmosphere at this place and the food is pretty decent.
