Great place to have a few beers and something to eat with friends.
Good fried calamari, seemed clams and shrimp and scallops.
    FUN place to go.

I love the fried extravaganza at this place especially the beer battered halibut. Service is ok but I have to say Carlos is kind of a prick. He could be a lot more personable and liven things up but he chooses to be this behind the counter expressionless troll.

I've eaten at F Street Station each of my trips to Anchorage.  The food here is the best.  They have the regular bar-and-grill food with an Alaska spin including fresh seafood offerings.  I recently had grilled halibut.  It was grilled to perfection with sear marks and a little seasoning, not over or underdone, flaked perfectly to the fork and then to my palette.   Someone sitting by the grill told me that the fish was fresh caught and the fillets were cut straight from the fish to the grill.  It had a nice cucumber salad on the side.  I always get whatever local seafood entree they offer and have never been disappointed.

F Street Station is a really relaxed place, it gets busy and its a small place, but it doesn't get too loud.  Regardless of the wait the food and atmosphere is definitely worth the wait.  The staff is really nice and I love the mason jars that they serve drinks in.

Seems like a combination of locals, out-of-town business and tourists frequent, so lots of opportunity to meet people and have interesting conversation.  Great location down town.

Had the halibut and chips.  My god, the halibut tasted so fresh and amazing!  Ambiance is a bit divey but it was good for lunch.

    2.75 stars.

Yikes!!!  Went in for a "late" night burger at 930pm.  Most of Anchorage is shut down by this point so F Streeet seemed like a good choice.

I sit at the bar, order a burger and a beer, then the show begins.  Drunks.  More drunks in one place than I can remember since, maybe, college.  Loud.  Obnoxious. But far enough away not to totally spoil the experience.  Then a guy who would otherwise appear homeless, except for his credit card, thrown on the bar, sits next to me.  Far, at first, but edging closer.  Too close.  I try to mind my business, but my space is quickly invaded and an intoxicated, rambling monologue ensues about rocket scientists and astronauts and New York and who knows what else.  I can't get my check quickly enough.  I endure about 15 minutes of pure freaking hell while summoning the barmaid, then I get out of F Street.  Not a moment too soon.

For the record the burger was good.  Fries were not-so.  Lots of beers on tap.  Drinks are served in Mason Jars, perhaps pleasing the ambiance-loving drunk.  Ay-Yi-Yi.  Next time, room service...

I went in again today with another old pilot. We were feeling the need...the need to feed!

We both got the halibut fish and chips that I had coveted on my earlier trip. Halibut is easy to overcook, so I wasn't offended when mine had that distinctive dusty chew of a little too long in the fat. It was good.

Why the four stars? The smoking hot barmaids and servers of course. I can't help being a guy! We're visually motivated! I am being cheeky. The chips part of this meal was totally out of sight! I think next time I'll get a plate of fries, with anything on the side.

Halibut is out of season & a mistake this time of year...shrimp, burger or forget it right now.  Sometimes this place has a nice  vibe but lately it's been uninspiring.

This restaurant receives 2 stars instead of 1 because the food was decent and the cooks behind the counter were friendly. The hostess on the other hand was not friendly at all and we almost left. The fish was good, and although I felt that it was cooked with a good attitude, it wasn't served with friendliness which really tainted the experience. We won't return. Salad options weren't abundant. This is not necessarity the place that you patronage for health, or in our case, happiness.

F Street is a solid spot--it's good for hanging out and chatting up friends. There's usually a steady flow of people going in and out--it's never packed for long, or empty for long. The service was great, the food was decent, and I could actually have a conversation since there's no music in the background.

Note: a lot of dudes go here. Just saying.

I love this place!! I pretty much go every other week..I would go every day if I lived near downtown. Anyways, I don't know what they do to the food but everything tastes sooo good! My favorite is halibut fish and chips with fries. It is 17 bucks so yea it's not cheap but it's worth every penny! I love their fries as well. I think I'm addicted to them. Also their drinks are pretty good. I usually get margaritas.

OH MY GOODNESS!! This place is ridiculous!  I will make it a habit to come back because the drinks were very boozy.  The bartender was pretty overworked and that could be because someone called out and they had to make due but because of it we had to wait on service more than a few times.  The cheese slab they have there was cracking me up.  I didn't go near it because I was watching the locals drag their dirty sleeves all over the top of it but I thought it was a very original idea, even though it said it was for display only.  I'd recommend this place and hope there were more folks working.

A coworker and I were laid over in Alaska for a day. We checked yelp and found this place close and open late.

We ended up eating there for lunch and dinner. Good drinks, super friendly atmosphere, we were really glad it was open and that the food was so nice.

Jill the bartender was amazing.  Great service cold beer.  Didn't eat  but  the food looked amazing.  The block of cheese on the corner of the bar is awesome.

The halibut was quite good. The fish was very fresh and fried right in front of me at the bar. The fries were a bit under done, so that's why I am giving only 3 stars.

One note: if you sit at the bar on your right, you need to interrupt Jose or whoever else to order food. I sat there for 15 minutes waiting for the server to come over, and when she did, she only took drink orders.

Most times I've been in here, I've been really happy. The halibut - both in the salad and fish and chips - are absurdly good. Good beer selection.  Love the random block of cheddar which has a big sign stating "For Display Only" over it that is cheerfully ignored. Nice vibe and you can easily strike up a conversation with the guy on the next stool.

And then sometimes it turns into a total madhouse where you fight through the crowd to get close enough to the bar to get a drink. Totally forget about trying to get food at these times. You're better off just walking away and going somewhere else downtown.

Delicious food, especially for an old pilot haunt. Calamari was very lightly breaded, and the Copper River red salmon stuffed with shrimp and scallops was fantastic. A tight space but a good vibe.

I have mixed feelings about F Street.
What people are writing about in the reviews about frat boys & amateurs on the weekends is absolutely true. The place is always packed on weekends or special events downtown and this is usually the best time to completely avoid the place. You usually can't find a seat and you're left standing miserably with a drink in hand, looking around and there's not much to look around at cause the place is a pretty small joint.
But.....and the reason for the 4 stars.....is the awesome food!! If you can get to this place any other time than the aforementioned, then it's worth it. It's also, in my opinion, one of the only worthy places to eat downtown and one of the only reasons to actually go downtown for. They keep the menu small, and the food is freshly made. I usually sit over by the chefs - they are super cool and that part of the bar seems to be drama free and far more laid back!!

F Street has good food and hot bar tenders. What more could you ask for in a place?

If you want to get your night started right, ask for a trash can. You'll be perplexed by the blue concoction served in a mason jar with can of red bull floating in it. Once you drink about half of it, you won't have a care in the world.

And yes, eat the cheese! If the aforementioned good food and hot bartenders isn't enough to attract you to this place, then the novelty of a HUGE block of Tillamook cheddar cheese should win you over!

Great bar to hang out in for a couple of beers. I don't know if I'd quite label it a dive bar, but it's pretty close to it. Aviation stickers decorate the bar area.

The block of tillamook cheddar at the end of the bar to pick at is pretty cool too.

F Street is known for its beer-battered halibut and it is 100% worth it. The fries are also perfectly done. On one visit, I was craving a burger and ended up ordering one - don't make that mistake; it was horrible.

Service is hit or miss - they're all very attentive, but not all the nicest. I've had some servers/bartenders be extremely sweet and others that are downright rude, regardless of how politely you approach them. However, they will always ask if you want your drink replenished or need anything and as long as you accept the possible attitude factor or just don't care, you'll have a good time.

After a long day of travel from DFW to Anchorage, all I wanted was a casual place to relax and enjoy local brews and chews. The Hilton desk clerk recommended F Street Station, which is just around the corner. His recommendation was spot-on.

This is a small bar/restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The crowd was varied, from younger couples to local regulars to airline pilots on layover. I sat at the bar and enjoyed conversation with several of them. My brew of choice was an IPA from Kassik's of Kenai, AK and it didn't disappoint. The bold, smooth flavor was just what the doctor ordered. Finding myself torn between the fried haddock and sauteed scallops, I asked my bartenders recommendation and without hesitation she directed me to the scallops. Served in a butter garlic sauce with optional pasta, the dish was delicious. They even give you bread with which to sop up the extra garlic sauce - yum!

This was a very enjoyable experience, and I will remember F Street on future visits to Anchorage.

Right around the corner from the Hilton.  I noticed that most of the crowd here is in their 20s and 30s with a sprinkling of other age groups as well.  The bartender lady was quite nice and actually funny with her own personal stories and jokes.  Didn't try any of their food and had beers and a slices of the cheeseblock.   Showed up about 9ish after dinner mid-week and at that time, it seemed to be the best time to grab a brewski as it was only about half full as opposed to 6:30 when no seats were available.

Ehh, typical yuppie guppy bar filled with frat boys with too much hair gel, and girls with too much makeup to cover up their physical insecurities. The bartender was really rude when I ordered my beer to the point that I almost didn't tip her.

One interesting offering is the huge cheese block with a crackers that sit on the edge of the bar for people to cut into and sample. I say interesting, but I also think it is kind of gross since most people don't wash their hands after they go to the bathroom...

Found this place on Yelp when I lived in downtown Anchorage and decided to check it out for some food and drinks one night.

The place is small and gets pretty busy. We got their reasonably early so were able to get a table right away.

They serve their drinks in mason jars, which was different and cool. I ordered my go-to drink, a Cape Codder, and couldn't finish it because it was so strong! I am a bit of a puss-bag when it comes to liquor so I see their strong drinks as a plus to most of the people :)

They have a huge block of free cheese and people eat from, which was random as hell but it definitely makes this place stand out.

Fries are delish, actually all the food they have is pretty damn good. I like how if you sit at the bar you can order right from the chef and watch him cook the meal.

Go here, you won't be disappointed..

Stopped in on a frigid night while in town for business last month. I was told to expect a dive bar with good food and got exactly that. Began with the onion soup which was done well without being overly salted. Followed that up with the grilled halibut sandwich and poured down a few mason jars of Alaskan Amber along the way. The bartenders were attentive and friendly; they had the right crew to keep the vibe of the place what it is....and they did one heck of a pour for a bourbon nightcap.

A good , cheap alternative to some other restaurants. Just realize the place is small and the menu limited. But if you want to save time and a few bucks but still have good food, this is it.

Recommended by Holly B.  Stopped in and said hi to Jill, our bartender. (Awesome by the way).  Watch out for ex-Flying Tiger types and grab some of the best beer battered Halibut you'll ever eat!  (be sure to sneak some cheese off the cheese block that is for "display only."

    An aviators "must see" place......

    Enjoy

Free huge block of cheese, drinks out of a mason jar, free grab bag of candy that makes the rounds and sweet Alaska crowd. This place rocks.

Went here while in town for work and was not disappointed.  When sitting at the bar you order your food directly from the chef/cook.  Its kind of like Alaska's version of Benihana mixed with Pantera.  Most of the cooks are pretty animated and it just adds to the experience.

Its not fine dining, but it is Alaska at its best.  Go here.  You'll love it.

Didnt like it----Im here in AK on work travel (and getting some playtime in too).  A local recommended we eat here and locals normally know best.  No disrespect, to each his own, however I did not like this place at all.

Its a hole in the wall look and feel, which I could have gotten over if the service and food were better.  The menu is VERY small and the older bartender/waitress (blond headed lady) who served us at the bar wasnt freindly, had an attitude and didnt like her job I guess, dispite how nice I tried to be.  She was slow and almost seemed to ignore us.

The only good thing I can say, is the cream of chicken/rice soup was surprisingly good.  My boyfriend hated his burger.

I dont get the whole cheese block thing that people carve and eat off, with a sign hanging above it that says "Display only, not for consumption"--what is that about?  Anyway...didnt like the joint.

We went into this pilot's hangout for the fish and chips. Man, they really didn't dissappoint. Plenty of them, and delicious.  The "chips"- or French Fries-  they're ok, but I guess i've just eaten too many of them in my life.  Think about subbing a cup of soup or something for the fries...

One of the wonderful traditions here is to have a huge jar of candy on the bar, and a huge brick of Tilamook cheese, ready for you to carve off a few strips.  No peanuts here!  This is a GREAT place to hang out, enjoy a local beer, and strike up a conversation with a total stranger.

Just got back from Anchorage yesterday and I ended up having lunch at F St Station.
I last ate there about 15 yrs ago, and although the management has changed hands (I'm sure) the quality of the food is still excellent. Soup I had was Tomato/Basil/Gorgonzola and was smooth and creamy with enough Basil and a great "bite" of the Gorgonzola, which you could taste, but wasn't overpowering.

Dived into a Crab Sandwich on a HUGE Sourdough roll, which looked more like a mini-loaf. Wished the crab had been a little more creamy, but it tasted fantastic. My colleague had the same thing and he said he could eat another one it was so good, and he is a picky eater.

Service is haphazard as this place does tend to cater to locals so if you look like an "out-of-towner" be prepared to take a backseat.

And yes, I too succumbed to the giant block of cheese that has a "Display Only" sign over it, but seems to get mysteriously whittled down as time goes by.....

I read the great reviews but should have focused more on the fact that this place is, first and foremost, a BAR. Unless you have great timing, you will be sitting at a bar, too. I kept remembering that a friend and I met for lunch here once about 5 years ago and it was cozy. Well, when you are a woman eating alone, sitting at the bar, it's too cozy. I ended up having to listen to some twenty-somethings yap about their last trip to Vegas and how, like, every morning started with a Long Island Iced Tea and they were just so, like, wasted, every day. (Eye roll here).
The clientele is young, even at lunch. It's a Bar. I had the fish and chips and they were good but very expensive, even for Anchorage - $15.50 for an average portion. The root beer I got was an appalling $4. The service was not personable but hey, my  server was the bartender and she was dressed in a clingy dress aimed at tips from the male clientele I suppose, whom she seemed to be very friendly towards. I had to ask twice for malt vinegar. But hey, it's a Bar.   As for all the raving reviews, I guess if you are in your 20s, without a family and money to blow in the bar scene, and you like to drink (a lot),  and you have had a lot to drink, you forget about the jacked up prices and order all the food you want and think it's "the best ever!"   As for the office worker looking for lunch, be forewarned : A Caesar salad topped with shrimp or halibut would set you back $18 frigging bucks!! I am serious!! A cup of french onion soup was $8. (Side note here : Fish and chips at Glacier Brewhouse are $11.95, a caesar with shrimp would be $12.95 and you'd have a table with nice waiters and ambiance.) You get the picture. I mean, this place is a BAR for Christ's sake!  Glad there is YELP so I have a place to whine a little bit.
    There, now I feel better.

Great food.  I love to sit and drink booze while watching the chef cook my halibut nuggets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the food is GREAT!  Steak sandwiches are my next favorite!

Only downside is all the perverted old drunk pilots who come to check out the hot bartenders.  But they keep the place rich!

Love this place!!!!!!  Great bar and restaurant.  Good times!

I went to F Street Station the last night of my vacation in Anchorage with the owners of the B&B where I was staying.  As several people have mentioned, not many women go here.  When I was there, the place was pretty full and I counted five women.  There were a few couples, but it was mainly small groups of men.  Everyone looked like they were having a good time.  F Street Station seems like a great place for a casual night out with the guys. The place wasn't very loud so you can easily hear the guys you are talking to.

Since the tables were all taken we sat at the bar which surrounds the kitchen.  I enjoyed watching my food get prepared while I waited.  The hamburger I had was pretty good.  The guys I was with are regulars and they always have the halibut.

The food is good, I like the atmosphere and the prices are reasonable.  I will definitely come back the next time I am in Anchorage.

I love F Street! Great food, great drinks and for the most part, knowledgeable bar staff! Best eggs benedict in town on the weekends- great with mimosas! Also have great potato bacon soup- don't skimp on the cream!

Calamari and fries are to die for and my personal favorite- the halibut sandwich!

If you are looking to party- go closer to 10pm or 11pm- much of the dining crowed has left by then!

The food is really good here; can't go wrong.

However, there are never any women here. Largely groups of men, many of which are pilots. The crowd turns young after 10pm, and not in a good way.

Which is why guys should avoid this place unless they're only looking for some good grub and brew with little to no scenery.

The cheese-- you've gotta try the cheese! It's delicious...

Great local watering hole, filled with people between 21 and 27 (ish) on any night of the weekend!

The drinks are killer!!  There is a huge (GIGANTIC) block of cheese set up in the middle of the bar that you can pick at while drinking.  As tasty as that sounds *and I do love me some cheese*, it doesn't seem very sanitary whatsoever!  The concept however is great!!

Bar staff are friendly and quick to take your order and hand your your drink.  They've got a heavy hand so watch out!!

So we were over at Platnium Jaxxx, and the question came up:

"So where's another bar like this with hot girls?"

The bartenders pointed us over to F Street.

They were right, but more importantly, it's a comfortable bar. Cool people, decent drinks, easy to walk to, nice bar selection. The place doesn't suck, and on the weekend, there's some decent scenery. I liked the jars used as drink glasses -- cheesy but cool touch.

Personally, I liked hanging out at the place during a Monday night -- a bit less crowded, but still friendly people.

    (Really, eat the cheese!)

My first experience at F Street was a little odd--I walked in at the young age of 16 in the middle of the day during the summer wearing shorts and a tank top.  Big mistake.  There were about 3 other females, and none under the age of 40 and none under the weight of 200 lbs.  That being said, it was a little awkward and I left soon afterwards without even eating.

I went a few years later and found the experience much more enjoyable.  Not only was the place busy, but there were people of all ages there and a good percentage of women.  The food is pretty good, but still very "bar food"-esq.  The huge mound of cheese sitting at the bar still freaks me out (I'm a sanitation nut), but evidently people eat off that thing all the time.  Drinks were decently priced and it has a great location.  Definitely more of a locals joint even though it is smack dab in the middle of downtown.

wow.....first review, honored as an outsider. This bar is the spot if you ever visit anchorage. Great food, hot waitresses, and killer beer.

We went here 3 times in 10 days,  I know b/c of my credit card statement! Our waitress looked like Lindsey Lohan before she lost all of the weight, and she was great. Super nice and attentive.  The only reason it gets 4 stars and not five....is the block of cheese....they have this enormous block o cheese and it is a free for all. You would think that is cool, but you see some of the people with there sausage sized hands all over the cheese and it makes you not want to eat it!

Lots of locals hang here, and the hot chicks that live in AK hang out here too!
