I am required by law to come and eat here when in Springfield. In fact, I will alter my schedule some way, some how, to eat here more than once.

Love the mushroom soup. Chicken salad sandwich was very good.

Never had a bad meal. Highly recommended.

We were visiting Springfield and had lunch at The Feeds. Great soup, great service and great sandwiches. Will be back!

Saw this looked cute and got great reviews on Yelp so we stopped in on a business trip. Very busy around the late lunch hour but we didn't have to wait in line long. I am glad we were seated near the front of the restaurant- away from the kitchen because it was pretty noisy back there!
The food was great! We got sandwiches, soup, and the amazing raspberry chocolate cheesecake and apple cake. It was all delivered to our table quickly.
The staff is very friendly and helpful!

Best soup ever.  No contest.  I find the rare negative reviews baffling. Where do you suggest better soup?

SOUP! Soup soup soup. Good soup.

Can be kind of annoyingly loud and packed when it gets busy. But the soup is worth it.

Really fantastic sandwiches. This restaurant is reminiscent of the famous Sienfield soup nazi. Quirky house rules and you better know what you want when you reach the front of the line. Try mixing the soups 50/50 for some great flavors!

I only wish this place had better hours. Oh yea and the decor feels like your grandma may have chosen the wallpaper - and I mean that in a familiar, cozy, good way.

The Feed Store is a downtown Springfield classic. Excellent for lunch, though it gets extremely crowded and has a long line out the door some days. The food here is consistently good -- not amazing, but you won't have a bad experience here. Personal recommendations: Beef Barley Soup, Chicken Salad Sandwich (they're famous for it!), and a Pineapple Concoction, one of my favorite drinks of all time.

I loved this place it was just what we needed after eating fast food and chain style resturant food all weekend on our roadtrip  My husband got a roastbeef sandwich and the potato soup. Me something with cream cheese and sprouts and a side of potato salad.....yum! The food tasted homemade well probably not my home but like grandma made. Not like it was microwaved cooked or pre packaged. It was comfortable and happy. if you are looking for good food fair prices and bad wall paper go here it is the perfect lunch spot!

If you have never been to the Feed Store, run there now. Seriously. The homemade soups are to die for, Wisconsin Cheese being my absolute favorite soup of all time (sorry grandma). It gets crazy busy at peak lunch hour, but if you get there right at open, or a little after 1, there isn't as much of a wait. This is always one of the places I insist on going when I'm in town visiting my parents, and if it's closed because of the holidays it haunts me until I finally get my bowl of soup, usually months later. It;s that good!

Here's a tip (though I secretly love watching out of towners goof this up)... get in line!! This isn't a sit down and order place. There are menus when you walk in, as well as posted on the wall leading up to the front. Get in the line, figure out what you want, and order at the front. Also, don't send somebody to stake out a table for you, the staff will make them get up. They have a system, don't try to mess with it.

One of our favorite lunch places but rare that we can leave the office early enough to avoid spending an hour there.  Soups are always great and the sandwiches are what sandwiches were before Americans got really fat from eating ridiculous portions.  The carrot cake is also really, really good.

If you go there, understand the place is quirky and they really don't care about how things could be done better.  They are open for a few hours each day and closed on weekends except for the weekend of the art fair.

This place was pretty busy at lunch but was just okay. It was not bad food but not exceptional. I had the chicken salad sandwich and a bowl of Wisconsin Cheese soup.  Both tasted like something you could get from the local grocery store. Good thing was that the price was very reasonable ($8 total) and was ample to fill me up.

Very busy and popular lunch restaurant.  You wait in line to order, place your order, then are seated by a staff member to await your food.

They have a vast array of both sandwiches and soups to choose from each and every week day.  All taste rather home cooked over restaurant made which is not a bad thing.  I'm a fan of many of the soups and sandwiches alike.

The portions are somewhat small and it is a tad on the expensive side for Springfield.

Be prepared for a slight wait in the order line and you should probably limit the size of your party as seating is tight.

    Dear Yelp Gods,

What the hell did you remove my review of the Feed Store for? It was rather flattering and did not use offensive language.  Thanks for making me waste my time and write another one, grrrrr, it will not be even remotely as Useful, Funny or Cool as the first one. I'm making an unhappy face at you Yelp, yes I am!!!!!! :(

With that being said, the Feed Store is a loooong time Springfield family favorite.  We ate there often when I was a kid and every holiday when we come home, my father orders out several pints of soup that we basically exist on until it's gone.  Soup again? No complaints here!  I'm particularly fond of their cream based soups (Wisconsin cheese, potato, cream of broccoli, anything seafood), but am also a giant fan of their beef barley. We even mix different flavors together (in the privacy of our own home, of course)....love, love, love the soup. I don't think we've ever had a clunker.

So why not a 5 star?  Sandwiches are kind of meh and overpriced.  They aren't bad, per se, just not that interesting.  You could easily make the same sandwiches at home with better results and for far less money.  The soups, on the other hand, are quite good across the board and make this place worth a stop when in town.  What I'm saying here is skip the sandwiches. Really.  Why waste your precious eating out dollars/stomach space on a standard sammie when you can pig out on some fantastic soup?  I'll never understand.

Lines are fairly savage at lunchtime, so be forewarned if you head over there during the day.

Visited the Feed store for the first time while in Springfield. I was pleasantly surprised to see a pretty good soup place in Springfield that is  very lacto-vegetarian friendly. Almost all of their soups are cream based and hence probably not really very healthy (even though it is a soup!)-however the spinach soup was real tasty. What I really liked was the service-it was different and relaxing for a change. Will go there again.

    YIKES.
It is winter and it is Illinois.
But still,  the soup is goopey and the sandwiches....  glutinous. Not my thing but the service is wonderful!
    Phone home.

Ya know, I had high hopes of this. I was kind of let down. I was confused by the whole ordering system. I don't see the need to make it so difficult just to get food. If you already have a waitress why not just give her your stinkin' order at the table? I don't know, maybe I am missing something. Atmosphere was eh. Wait staff was so nice. Unfortunately we did have to watch one waitress cleaning with her hot pink undies half hanging out of her pants and all of her fellow employees would point and laugh (behind her back) rather than tell her. Which was a little lame. I didn't know they offered entertainment.

The food was okay. My chicken salad was like chicken mash. The crossiant was good. The wisconsin cheddar soup was divine. But all in all it wasn't worth the $26 tab for two sandwiches, two bowls of soup, waters and a bag of chips. If I would go again I think I would just order the soup and maybe some bread.

Overpriced deli with dry bread and hardly any condiments.  You can make better sandwhiches at home, trust me.  I don't know what they hype is about.

Very delicious and great staff. Make sure to save room for Carrot Cake - or take a piece home!

Oh my! I love the Feed Store. It is definitely a Springfield landmark. I have been frequenting this place since we moved to Springfield when I was 13 and my mom has been coming here since she was in high school.

I would argue this is THE place to go for lunch downtown. They are only open for lunch, M-S, but it always packed during this time. My personal favorites are the chicken salad on a croissant, the prairie turkey on french, the bagel with veggie cream cheese and the lox bagel. Yum! All of these are amazing. Everything is made fresh-the bread, the veggie cream cheese, the chicken salad-which is oh my god good. It is the creamiest I have ever had. It's more than likely insanely bad for you-but oh well, it is worth it once in a while. Their soups are a must. I love the cream of broccoli, wisconsin cheddar, the gazpacho, the mushroom bisque-basically all of them. If you can, save room for dessert. The cheesecake is delicious, as is the apple cake, carrot cake...mmmmm.

The atmosphere has been the same since they opened according to my mom. Dark-kind of classy-wall paper, dark wood tables and chairs in this huge open room. When you get there you stand in line, place your order, then are instructed where to sit. They give you the end of the ticket with your number on it. When the wait staff walks around with your order, they yell out the number. "Number 98!". You raise your hand and are delivered a little bit of heaven. Seriously, this place is that good! If you are in the area, check it out!
