Lost a customer over $2.00!
Went there Monday night with my wife and a friend - $1.00 tacos and $1.00 Bud Light cans. Â Ordered four tacos and two Bud Lights. Â The conversation went like this:
Waitress: Â "Sorry, we're out of Bud Light cans."
Me: Â "How much are the bottles?"
Waitress: Â "$2.00."
Friend: Â How much are the Budweisers?"
Waitress: Â "$2.00"
Me: Â "Okay. Â Give us a Bud, Bud Light, and a water."
Fast forward. Â Bill arrives. Â $10.00 and change.
Me: "Why is the bill over $10.00?"
Waitress: Â "The beers were $3.00 each"
Me: Â "You said they were $2.00."
Waitress: Â "No, I didn't."
Me: Â "There are three people sitting at the table; and, we all heard $2.00."
Waitress: "No, I didn't." Â "I know what I said."
Me: Â "Is there a manager on duty?"
Waitress: "Yes."
Fast forward. Â Manager arrives.
Me: Â "We were told that the bottle beers were $2.00, not $3.00."
Manager: Â "They are $3.00."
Me: Â "There are three people..."
Manager: "$3.00."
Me: Â "My wife and I have been coming here for several years." Â "You're willing to lose our business over $2.00?"
Manager: Â No response, walks away.
I will never set foot in Firebelly Lounge again!
It's a dive bar. Go in expecting that and you will be pleasantly surprised. It's a local place and you get the feeling that everyone pretty much knows everybody else.
The Faddi's are the reason I keep going back every time I'm in Wilmington. They are delicious. They always have great food and drink specials, I usually hit Firebelly for lunch and it's never too crowded.
The staff is always quick and attentive.
For affordable Mexican food in a really laid back atmosphere, check out Firebelly!
There's a lot of people who've reviewed this place who use terms to describe the smell that permeates this place. Â The best term I can think of is: musty. Â It's a dive sports bar in every possible way, and the basement-musty odor makes it feel that like the entire restaurant is covered in some sort of "must-dust".
So why 4 stars? Â Simple: the food is fantastic. Â It's not overly unique, just tasty. Â The kitchen staff is very pleasant and the prices make me and my bank account smile.
It's not the best restaurant in town, but it's well worth your visit, especially during lunch.
I would really like 2.5 stars, but I bump it up to 3 (instead of down to 2) because their dollar tacos are soooooo good!
When you walk into this place it can be a bit off putting. It's dark, kinda dirty (not in a unclean way), and always smells like some sort of cleaning products (which leads me to believe that it is in fact clean). It's also kind of confusing while there are tables and a guy standing at the bar, you must walk up to a window to order your food and then they will bring it to you at your table. There's always something good on the tv or great live music!
I must digress and go back to the "guy behind the bar" (and my biggest reason to not go to 4 starts). Â He's rude, all around unpleasant, and has little to no bar knowledge. Which is weird, because since he is always behind the bar you think just by sheer boredom, or osmosis, Â he would have picked up a little bar knowledge (for starters like, what kind of beer do you have on tap). Just my little rant about that!
I've been going there every week for some time now for their dollar tacos, chips and salsa, and a bottle of Blue Moon (because as it turns out everything they have on tap is disgusting).
This place is like flipping a coin. But with the food being so tasty I like to take my chances!
Dollar beers/tacos on Mondays is a hit. They also have really good onion rings. Beyond that, its a run of the mill basement bar. I will say the televisions in there are about 50 years old. Not recommended for sports events, that is, if you want to actually be able to see whats going on during the game.
Review Source:This place isn't pretty, and it smells kind of like a toilet, but the food has always been pretty damn good. The service is great, if you get the right person. The kitchen staff has ALWAYS been more than pleasant.
The new outdoor bar and seating is nice, when your not accosted by smokers.
If your hungry for good Tex-mex style food, I recommend this smelly place. Â You will get acclimated to the smell fairly quick.
Firebelly's is a pretty typical looking college bar. Their food is spicy, sloppy, and loaded with meat and cheese. It is good tex-mex type food, but nothing fancy. The "Faddi" burrito is good. Firebelly's big attraction is that they have cheap food and drink specials every day.
There's some seating out back with a bar, but the general atmosphere is pretty derelict both inside and out.
