I've been to 1st & Main more than a few times - typically pretty positive - I live walking distant from the only 'real bar in LA' which happens to serve decent food.

Tonight (Wed.) which is advertised as 1/2 off bottle wine night on their website and my first mid-week tryout was disappointing - it felt like what I'd call a 'bait & switch' - 50% off a bottle does not equate to 1/2 off that bottle apparently - even if that bottle happens to be $66 on menu and you order dinner + you order beers i.e. +100 tab - so yea I'm p.o.'ed - not at the staff but at the owner - so much so  that my wife and I will not be back.

Will someone with a decent head on their shoulders explain exactly what  "save 50% off ALL bottled wine (excluding wines by the glass)" - mean ? - especially when you have no offerings in bottles only on menu - oh yea they're changing the menu...; regardless I ORDERED A FULL BOTTLE FROM YOUR MENU - so why the 'confusion'?

Although the bartender 'comp'ed' me a couple beers on my bill - thank you (but still less than what I expected re: 1/2 off wine bottle); the whole experience left me with a bad taste - I'm pretty easy going and try to support local businesses - this is bs - 1st & Main - you've lost a customer.

This place is like the wine they sell. It get's better with time. I seriously enjoy coming here. The atmosphere is great and I feel like I meet new people all the time. Awesome place for food, drinks and sports. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

3.5 STARS for this bustling bar located on the end of Main Street.  Other than the colorful flags that adorn the ceilings, this place has the standard full bar and dining room that can be found in most bars.  This place did seem to have a bunch of regulars who met up at various times during the time I was here.  The bartending staff regularly greeted familiar faces with hugs and smiles too which is always a good sign for a good locals recognized bar.

Their happy hour goes until 6:30pm so taking advantage of it, I got some well margaritas for $5 each and an order of calamari for $6.  The chicken quesadilla was also ordered as well but was for regular price at $10.  The calamari was disappointing with more batter than actual squid in there...not surprising since it was a happy hour special.  The quesadilla was actually a decent size and it must have been good because my friend ate all of it.

The place wasn't too packed before 5:30pm but it got steadily more packed and soon I had to start using my "club" voice where I feel like I'm shouting just to have a conversation.  They have some special drink combos and pitchers for beer and margaritas too?  I didn't find that out until afterwards.  Beer selection for happy hour pricing is minimal but overall they have a couple of good selections, including Guinness.

First & Main is totally awesome if you don't mind paying $6 for a draft beer in a bar setting and you're cool with not really being sure what time they close (and thereby scrambling at the last minute to find a spot when you discover that they are, in fact, closed).  With that being said, I really do dig this place.  Keep in mind, though, that there aren't really any other bars in Los Altos, so competition for your business isn't really that tight if you're just looking to grab a bev and watch a game or meet up with some pals for a casual evening.

The bartenders are always friendly, they're happy to let you taste a beer or two on draft before making a decision and the wine list is actually pretty decent.  Additionally they have several pretty tasty beers by the bottle.  The back room has plenty of space to host a larger group and I believe there's another back room that can be rented or reserved for private parties.

I hear they have brunch on the weekends (maybe just Sundays?) but I haven't been yet.

Only bar closest to my house in Los Altos. Its fun to meet up with people for a drink, but they are somewhat pricy. The staff is very friendly and knows my brother really well so we are treated really good every time we go in. Love the variety of bottled beers and beers on tap are always different.

I came here with a large group and a reservation at the "Jersey Room"  The room has a bunch of jerseys hanging (all sports -- throwback lebron jersey, light blue kobe jersey, etc.) as well other sports memorabilia like a Patrick Willis signed jersey and a Will "The Thrill" Clark signed picture.  Further, there are a few TVs mounted so you can watch live games.

Onto the food and drinks...They have a decent variety of draft beers and since we had the private room the drinks were promptly served.  Mixed drinks (like margaritas and mojitos) weren't that good.  On the bright side, they were stiff (so I guess that's a plus).

The appetizers I thought were average bar food.  I was able to try the chicken tenders, pork quesadillas, sliders (chicken, there was beef too but I didn't have a chance to try it), chicken wings, and potato skins.  Out of everything, I'd stick with the sliders and chicken tenders.

I'd probably come back only for a sporting event, otherwise I think I'd check out another place.

For an upscale-looking sports bar in Los Altos, First & Main had a terrible tap beer list.  No Really...They should hang their heads in shame; Even some "dive" sports bars (e.g. Dutch Goose, The Oasis) put this list to shame.

Sure, First & Main has a nice *wine* list, but it's a flipping SPORTS BAR!!. When's the last time you heard a group of guys saying "Let's go catch the Niners game over a glass of Pinot Grigio" ?

I was here for a group dinner and arrived a bit late. The waitress took my drink order for one of the two drinkable beers on the list. Then the menu arrived, and it was a good selection. Good enough that I was stuck between a couple of choices.  I finally chose the NY Steak. A buddy of mine went for the pork chop.

For such a big group order, the food arrived quickly. Quality was higher than I expected. I enjoyed my steak and my friend said his pork chop was perfect (He was afraid of dryness). Service was good, but dropped off near the end, and many of us skipped dessert due to the long lag time.

I'd come back here again for dinner or lunch if friends suggested it.  But based on the meager beer offerings and uneven service, it's not a destination spot for me.

Nice place to meet up and have a drink or two! I had no idea Los Altos had sports bars like First & Main. I think I'll be sure to visit again!

We have always had a good experience here.  I came in on a Wednesday with friends for a drink.  They were out of Tanqueray Gin and many types of wines.  Very expensive too.  Nice place to watch sports.

Came here twice in the last week. 1st to celebrate the hubs birthday, which happened to fall on the 2nd night of the Giants World Series. Brought the kiddos and had a great time! 2nd time we came to celebrate his birthday again, but this time with a group of friends for game 3 of the Giants World Series. There were 16 of us, including some kids.

We tried many things on the menu: nachos, french dip sliders, sausage sampler, wings, quesadillas, stuffed potato skins, caesar salad, blue cheese salad, ny strip, fish tacos, reuben, fried chicken & waffles, chicken strips, kids pasta, chocolate cake, brownie, and the oreo sundae. I can't say there was anything I didn't like! Both times we've been here so far, our food has turned out great. By far, my favorites are the caesar, fish tacos, chicken & waffles and the brownie. Mmmmmm. Plus, with a full bar and lots of beer choices, everyone was happy to hang out, grub and enjoy the game! ;-)

The service here is fantastic. Rob really does treat you like you've been friends for years! They will do what they can to accommodate your large party if you like as well! I'm so glad we were able to enjoy 2 of the Giants World Series games here! There are flat screens everywhere, so no matter where you sit, you can watch the game! It was an exciting and lively experience, that was still family friendly, and not rowdy at all.

Good peeps, good food, good ambiance here! We'll definitely be back! :)

I've been here a few times, and this place is pretty good. They have a good selection of beverages and it's a nice place to watch a game with some friends. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to try the food yet. Furthermore, the service leaves room for improvement in that it can be a little bit slow at times (especially when it's really busy).

    But I'll be back!

Awesome place to hang out and enjoy yourself. The food is yummy. They have the best warm brownie covered with chocolate and scoop of vanilla ice cream - it wil top off any of their entrees.   Rob the owner is a fun guy and will treat you like he's known you for years!!  Highly encourage you to try this place.

Whenever the bf and I want to eat out and watch a game we walk over to First & Main.  The food is good, the staff keep the beers flowing (I don't think I have ever finished a beer before being asked if I would like another), and the flat screens are plentiful.

We have tried many things on the menu at this point, I highly recommend the french dip sliders, mac and cheese, heart attack burger or the wedge salad.  I would advise against a hamburger or cheeseburger.  Everyone has a favorite burger place and it won't live up to it.

First & Main is clean and I have always had excellent service here.

Being that I am deaf in one ear, I particularly enjoy that they offer dining in the lounge area, in regular restaurants I am unable to hear whats going on at my table.

I really like First & Main.  This is on my map of places I would suggest people try.

Good parts.  Nice selection of good beers.  Haven't eaten everything, but in my pass through the menu, I have found items ( the bobby burger, the beet salad ) that I like a LOT.  Other menu items "merely" good. Very friendly staff.

Bad parts.  Service is slow if you come when they are busy.

Such a bummer this place was really awesome when it first opened.

Now the bartenders are pretentious assholes/bitches and think because they work at the ONLY bar in Los Altos that they are entitled or something.

Judgmental, rude, and not customer friendly.

I am a Los Altos native and as much as it'd be AWESOME to have a cool bar in Los Altos, this place is not it.

Fix the energy and atmosphere of this place and maybe I'll come back. Until then, the extra 10 minutes to DT Palo Alto it is.

Dropped in here with some friends thinking we'd get some dinner, have some beers, and watch some football.
It was not meant to be.
First we were told by a waiter to sit anywhere we'd like and we would be served. This waiter promptly disappeared.
We ended up sitting at a table for the next 15 minutes continuously ignored by the waitstaff.
When we asked a waiter for help he told us he had his hands full (fair enough, he was bringing food to another table). He disappeared and didn't return.

After not being helped for 20 minutes we decided to head down to the Mexican restaurant down the street.
Not going back to this place again.

My husband and I stopped by last week after the Los Altos Holiday stroll in the rain.  With the poor weather, construction and quiet streets to begin with, the holiday stroll was sparsely attended.  We cruised thru several blocks, had a few sips of wine and cookies and wanted to stop for a drink before gonig home.  First and Main had a lot of people -looked like a fun atmosphere.

We had Just missed happy hour - as it was 645PM.  The waitress brought over the happy hour menu so we could see their specials (drinks and food) for next time.  After we enjoyed our wine, she gave us the bill, and let us know she had given us Happy Hour prices.

It was a small, but very welcome gesture.  One doesn't see service like this much, especially in a sports bar.

Thank You! and we will be back very soon for Happy Hour!

    5 Stars for a Sports Bar....oh yeah!

Recently had a group dinner for an end of year volleyball season party.  It is a perfect location to celebrate a great season. The owners were very accommodating.  We had a slider bar where everyone built there own sliders.  Perfect for kids. In addition, we had a pasta dish for our vegetarian eaters. I totally forgot to plan a desert but to my surprise Jeffrey, one of the owners, did not. We had tasty brownies with fresh strawberries. Yum!

Now it would not be a sport bar without watching a great game so Rob (one of the owners) found a volleyball game for all the team to watch while the adults enjoyed a few drinks.

It was perfect for all ages.

This place is just okay, not great.  Was here on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice.  Our server greeted us promptly and quickly took our drink order, a big plus!

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and asked for no bacon.   My friend ordered the asian chicken salad.  My sandwich came with bacon which I didn't realize until I took a bite. (Nice.)  My friend was served a garden chicken salad.  Our server obviously wasn't listening to us when we ordered.  Perhaps it would have helped if she had actually written the order down!

The chicken sandwich came with avocado and grilled onions, but there wasn't much of either.  The chicken was dry and the bread they used was way too thick.  The french fries it came with weren't even warm.  :(

Once my friend got the correct salad, she said it was good and my other friend liked his angus burger.

I thought there were a lot of good choices on the menu, but I won't be back to try something else unless someone else is paying!  I'm not going to give up my hard earned money for a meal that is subpar.

I've visited 1st and Main about 7 to 10 times and i like the atmosphere, the waiters are friendly and the drinks are good.  That said, they need to really take another look at their food preparation as it is not that good.  it comes out fast enough but the quality is really lacking...very greasy and the taste is just ok.  I've had the sliders, burgers and breakfast menu (eggs and bacon).  Maybe I need to try something else...but the Middlefield ballpark at Middlefield and Meadow in Palo Alto has better burgers.

Again, great viewing of games given the number of TV's and nice staff!

The first time I came here was for happy hour...  It was perfectly fine.  We ordered some food on happy hour (I love a place with both drinks and food on happy hour!).  The bartender was carrying around a baby on her hip (like, yes, a live human baby...) but I let it slide.  Really odd, especially for Los Altos, and sorta no okay, but I let it slide.

The second time I came with a group of friends, around 9pm on a Wednesday, just thinking we'd have some beer and catch up.  Firstly, this place is over priced.  Yes, I am in Los Altos, but no, a pitcher of Lagunitas IPA shouldn't be so expensive.  Especially, when the bartender is going to be so blah.

Okay, this place is definitely good for big groups (they have a huge lounge toward the back).  This place is also deeeefinitely locals spot.  The bartender obviously knew most of the people sitting at the bar.  Also, because it is Los Altos, they close SO early... 11pm on week nights!

I would go back to First and Main because it's within walking distance of my house and it's okay for a beer or two.  But otherwise, shmeh.

Being this is the closest bar to my house I've been here several times. The first couple times the food was pretty good and the prices were expensive but not exorbitant. Well the more and more we come it seems like the prices continue going up as the quality of the food goes down.

The final straw was when my friends and I came in here to watch the U.S. Mexico Gold Cup final.  I ordered a pitcher of Bud Light for 17 bucks which I thought was pretty high. Well, later my friend orders a pitcher of anchor steam and it was 27 dollars. 27 freaking bucks for a pitcher. I know it's downtown Los Altos but that is insane pricing. We walked out of the place down 50 just on beer feeling completely ripped out. I will never come back again.

Los Altos isn't really known for their ability to handle groups of 8 or more.  Thankfully First and Main can.

Nice place to hang out and grab a beer, though I expected a bit more of a selection, and what they do have plays like a greatest hits.  C'mon, so me you care, carry something they don't have at every other bar around.

The menu has some interesting things on it, like the heart attack burger (burger topped with Pastrami and cheese), which I still need to try.

The fish tacos get kudos for not being deep fried!  Other than that, everything else seems to be pretty standard fair.

Nice setup and everything you would want from a good bar, except one thing...

The bartenders need to learn how to mix drinks.  I ordered a Knob Creek Old Fashioned.  It would have been good, had it not been over half soda.  An Old Fashioned calls for a "splash", not a tsunami, of soda.  It's the most basic (and popular) of drinks and they can't get it right?

I'll probably go back and give them another chance, but I am going to be much more specific about how I want my $9 cocktail made.

For a Wednesday evening it was a good crowd. Great sports bar with plenty of room and a few TVs screens. And the restaurant is clean! Went here for HH (4-6) and the beverage menu was great. I had the apple martini and vodka tonic and boy it kicked in.....

Just ended up ordering the mitro something, it's basically calamari, shrimp and artichoke all fried up. It came with two sauces, some kind of tartar and cocktail sauce. I love the cocktail sauce very thick and had this great flavor about it, very different from many others that I've tried. Overall I thought it was a pretty decent dish. Their dinner menu, etc., looks pretty good. I would have to definitely come back.

Glad I found something near work that is not too over priced.

Another week of football, another new Sports Bar to try. This past weekend we checked out First & Main Sports Lounge (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.px.yelpcdn.com%2Fbphoto%2FoZEs2K5t6XH5tWJ1qFTnww%2Fl&s=09ff24d8ff9cbb10518f7b58ec05868790d31111a3903cc7071af38ee7af66a1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://media1.px.yelpcdn…</a>) in Los Altos. Looking from the outside in, First & Main Sports Lounge looks really small. But once you step inside, the place looks surprisingly big inside. They also have a parking lot in the back for easy parking.

I know you are asking yourself, a sports bar in the Los Altos area? I find this place to be seriously underrated, and surprised they haven't received higher reviews. It's very clean and upscale on the inside, but that doesn't surprise you in Los Altos. What might surprise you are the 14 HD televisions, friendly staff, full bar in the front (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.px.yelpcdn.com%2Fbphoto%2FrKuReinFynsiT7_UucRLvA%2Fl&s=17e79ef09d055acfed35703a50f8d85903793e81085b80dbe4552cd543655b54" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://media1.px.yelpcdn…</a>), sports memorabilia all around, plenty of seating, and comfortable lounge couches in the two rooms in the back. Ah, is that how they call this place a lounge?

    *Food: 4 Stars*

    That Sunday we ordered:
    - Corned Beef Hash and Eggs $10.95
    - Molten Mac & Cheese $12.95
    - Crispy Calamari $11.95

Corned Beef Hash and Eggs (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.px.yelpcdn.com%2Fbphoto%2FV841Rt5QUVj-y-5i0v7h3g%2Fl&s=4b0961ab1a31b1055505e9f2a5efcc174f7f7b941f9be62b4eabc0f5754eb791" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://media1.px.yelpcdn…</a>) - This turned out to be quite a delicious breakfast that was cooked to perfection. The hose-made corned beef with fried up with potatoes and onions. The three eggs were cooked sunny side with the yolk still running (runny), excellent! I personally didn't care too much for the toast, but my friend really enjoyed it!

Molten Mac & Cheese (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.px.yelpcdn.com%2Fbphoto%2FUoT-GxeH29Kt9bxIpmrwLA%2Fl&s=d828a2c08df05b087ca41d8408dad2da444b19a8d912d4e9ae6bd02efa655622" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://media1.px.yelpcdn…</a>) - Brie, gruyere, fontina, and aged white cheddar with seasoned bread crumbs. I read all the reviews regarding the Mac & Cheese, and asked myself if it could really be that good? My first bite answered that question, YES! This is one of the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had. As tasty as it was, I was disappointed with the portion. Seriously, there was hardly anything on the plate. When the dish arrived my friend instantly said "That's all for $12.95?" and all I could do was laugh.

Crispy Calamari (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.px.yelpcdn.com%2Fbphoto%2FJBYkOwQi2VR5slvxJ2TW8A%2Fl&s=e838357c5e34948b51f7331984b31f50db6427d16c73fa287e2d6880b9090e5f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://media1.px.yelpcdn…</a>) - The calamari was also good, however it didn't really compare sitting next to the Mac and Cheese.

    *Atmosphere: 3.5 Stars*
The atmosphere is very welcoming and the crowd was on the mellow side.  For the morning games it was a little empty, with only a few patrons at a few tables and at the bar. When the afternoon games kicked off, the place started to get a little lively.

Summary (4 Stars): I can see why some people might complain about the service. While we didn't get bad service, it was a bit on the slow side, especially considering the place wasn't too packed. The establishment itself is very nice, clean, quite welcoming, and offers a great ambiance. While the food is on the expensive side, it's quite tasty and delicious comfort food. This is a great place to watch NFL games, and I can't wait to come back.

This place puts the "die" in "DIVE".  Went in to do some work and have a few drinks/food.  The barmaid served me...no, she served the people at the bar and largely IGNORED me at my table (the place was almost empty).  Her service was dedicated to flashing her "Silicone Valley" to the old men at the bar.  When I was done, had to go to the bar to get her to clear the bill---she didn't even say "thank you" or even deign to make eye contact.  The no-thank-you is a capital crime in my book.

The food I ordered from the kitchen was barely edible.  It had obviously sat for awhile under their heat lamp and was welded to the plate (nachos.)

    This place SUCKS bigtime.

I tend to stay away from Los Altos. You see, I'm like Sly and the Family Stone--everyday people.

Now, I'm not saying that people from the LA area (in this review, LA=Los Altos. May seem pretty obvious, but you never know on yelp) are all pretentious douche bags. That is just not true. What is true, however, is that there are people like Shadi N who feel as though LA is too good for people who do not reside in their zip code. That assessment is incorrect, and, in my opinion, just shitty and bad for business. But, you will always have NIMBY's. What can you do about that?

What you can do is go to First and Main, where you are welcome no matter what your bank balance is. Have the money for a full blown delicious dinner? They got you covered. Have just enough for some apps (that's appetizers for you Apple people) and a pitcher of beer? That's cool too. Just enough for a few beers while the game is on? They can accommodate that as well, and will treat you right no matter in which scenario you find yourself.

That being said, since I don't frequent LA because of the aforementioned potential douche bags, I was reluctant to go to First and Main. Why was I in LA if I don't frequent there you may ask? Community theater! But that's another review.

Anyhoo, being a bit wary of our surroundings, we found ourselves at First and Main because it has parking. Add a star right there. We got right in on a Saturday during a Sharks game, even though it was packed. The service was great, drinks were strong, and nary a NIMBY in sight. In fact, locals abound, and they were super nice and encouraged our return visit, which we will undoubtedly take them up on. See, not everyone is like Shadi N (my apologies for singling you out, yet your attitude is so stereotypical, and hilarious, that I have to use it as an example. I mean, it's right there for me to reference. Too easy.).

For food, we had their sexy mac and cheese which is now famous, and the pulled pork sandwich. For dessert bread pudding, which was great, yet we were so full from drinks and other food we had to bring it home.

I know this review doesn't focus on the food as much as the ambiance, but I think it is important for people to know LA has a place where we are all welcome. Good food and good people--what else do you need?

Oh yeah, parking--they got that, too.

Wish i could support a growing bar scene in los altos, but if its going to drag in the trash from out of town, id rather not.

bad atmosphere, very bright and cold and uncomfortable, bad bar food, attracts shitty people who are obviously not from the area and RUIN the atmosphere.

I'd go grab a drink and watch my sports at los altos grill over this place ANY DAY. I'd even drive to PA and go to Old Pro, You want a REAL sports bar, go there.... Its not like first and main is filled with locals anyway. yuk

First and Main is situated at the corner of the cute downtown street, and parking isn't usually too bad.  The space itself has a very clean feel to it, and the rest of the restaurant's crowd was in their 30s-40s, definitely a bit older  (and less obviously drunk) than the places in downtown Palo Alto.

I went for a group event, and the lower bar/lounge area is nice for that - there's an area with tables and a large flat screen TV for projecting, and there's also an area with big leather couches and more TVs  This private dining area is good for mingling and catching up with different groups of people.

The event was catered, and I did not have to pay for the food or alcohol, so however that may bias my experience...

The mac and cheese is nice and salty/cheesy, and the chicken pot pie is also very comforting.  The ahi tuna tartare looked really pretty and fresh, but the pieces were a bit big, and it was overpowered by sesame oil.  Other things we tried included really tender beef skewers (filet, according to the server), sliders, the garden burger (tastes exactly like the Gardenburger brand original flavor). The onion rings and fries were ordinary.. not bad.  The pulled pork had a weird meat flavor to it - not rancid, per se, but I guess all the seasoning was strong enough to cover it up.

There's also a good variety of beers on tap.

It's definitely one of the nicer bars, which is to be expected in downtown Los Altos, and the service is really courteous and attentive.  It's a great set up for a group event, but I can't really vouch for an individual dining experience.

This place is surprisingly big inside. You would never guess that it would be as large as it is from the outside. Lots of flat screens so you can see the game at any seat you are at. It reminds me of a smaller version of The Old Pro in Palo Alto without the mechanical bull and pool tables.

The food is pretty decent too. For the kids we ordered the mini corn dogs and tater tots and sliders and fries. Both were tasty, especially the sliders, which I was pleasantly surprised about. My husband had the meatloaf and I had the BBQ Chicken Salad. In regards to the salad, I liked how the chicken was grilled, not fried, however it does need the BBQ sauce or it can be a little dry. The surprise of the night was the meatloaf. I really don't like meatloaf, but this was really good. It tasted like it had some rosemary in it, which is probably what gave it the flavor that I liked. It wasn't dry either, which was a nice plus. I may have to order it myself if we go back.

The service was so-so, which is why they only get 3 stars, otherwise I probably would have given 4. However I do want to give a quick shout out to the owner/manager (I think he's one or both) because he recognized that we had been waiting a while for our food to arrive. He apologized and brought over another basket of over another basket of mini dogs and tots for the kids.

Overall, a surprisingly good place to hang out and pretty decent food for a sports bar in Los Altos.

This location has a special place in our family. Back when it was Mandarin Classic, my husband and his father toasted our daughter there over dinner the night after she was born. When it closed, we didn't pay attention to the restaurants that came after it. I think there were two but, I'm not sure. Still every time we passed the place, my husband told our daughter the story of toasting her entry into the world there.

Well, last night we returned to the scene of the toast. There was no Chinese food insight, just sports memorabilia and shee shee pub food. This was all very fitting as the baby daughter I referred to is now an almost 8-year-old athlete and as for the shee shee pub food, it is Los Altos after all!

You see, First and Main is not your classic sports bar watering hole, its more an homage to sports.  The place is bright and roomy inside and I didn't notice a single peanut shell on the floor.

As for that pub food, the molten mac and cheese looked tempting --- made with three kinds of cheese; Gruyere, brie, fontina and white Cheddar--- but, we fought off calorie overload for dishes such as the chicken and cheese quesadilla, the salmon served with miso paste with vegetables and potatoes and garlic fries! All of the food was delicious and light unlike most pub food which makes you feel like you've eaten a brick or something. Interestingly there is no kids menu but, there is enough in the appetizer menu to take care of the little ones --- chicken fingers with fries, quesadilla, etc.

The place seemed a little too nice to be a sports bar and I'm pretty sure it's the first sports bar I've gone to that didn't have video games stuffed in some corner of it. Again, it is in Los Altos and because of that it is held to a different standard!

The staff is nice, the prices are decent and the ambiance, shee shee. Go check it out!

I've eaten here once, and drank here once.  I've attempted to drink here 4 or 5 times but am always greeted with a locked door around midnight.  I now call ahead, so far.. they've never answered the phone.

So by 'open late' I think they mean open till about 11:30pm.

Sucks too, its walking distance from home. :(

Los Altos definitely needed a place like this. After the closed Chinese restaurant and L'Acquolina after that, a sports bar and post dinner hang out fits the bill. Came here to watch some Stanley Cup playoff action with an old work acquaintance. As we were watching the games, I hear a voice that seems pretty knowledgeable about hockey and somewhat familiar. I turn around and it's Jaimie Baker of Sharks Radio/Television. Very cool guy and even though the Sharks season was over he was there to just watch some hockey too. Solid bar food:

Tater tots and mini corn dogs
    Mac and Cheese
    Sliders and fries

and they have Guinness! That was enough even without the food. The bonus is they have tons of TVs (I've been back again) and the second time I had the downstairs room by myself to watch both the NHL and NBA games simultaneously. The owner and staff are really friendly and the vibe is mellow and un crowded. A good find for my sports watching habits.

Not sure what makes this place better, the Macaroni and Cheese, or George.

Both are awesome and keep me wanting to come back for more!

Sit at the bar for some beers, you can order your dinner there too...  Chat up with George, cool guy, so tip him well!!!  Definitely a cool place to chill if you're down in Los Altos!!

If you're blue collar, this place will piss you off. It's a really swanky sports bar. Food is just fine, but it's overpriced. Onion rings are actually pretty terrible.

Before I start...I'm really not one to complain. Usually I come on here to compliment restaurants.

The reason I'm writing is because I had probably the most selfish, overbearing, annoying waiter I've ever had. He was first off irritated that my friend didn't order anything while he was waiting for me, then he tried to rush me off the table so he could turn it over. He was trying to clear my plates when I wasn't finished. I think I told him twice I wasn't done. He then tried to convince me I was finished ordering anything. Didn't offer dessert. Brought the check right after he cleared my plates. By this time I had made up my mind that I was never coming back.

I've been a waiter in different restaurants for several years, so I know the tricks.

Funny thing was....after I finished, another friend came and ordered a burger, so the kid had to sit there for a while longer.

Go to eat, not to relax and watch a game, you'll get pressured ridiculously.

This was a few months back so maybe it's better or maybe he's gone. However, I'm never going back because of that kid.

Okay...if you have read my other restaurant reviews you know that I eat out EVERY NIGHT. Im not talking just 3 or 4 nights a week...I SAID EVERY NIGHT!!! So to find something local where I could possibly enjoy a nice Cosmo (or two) and take the back roads home was very enticing to me.

To be fair, I have tried First and Main, on each night of the week, with or without Sharks games and in solo and mixed company. I have experienced most of its waitstaff and most of the items on the menu. I have been there early and have wandered in late...which brings me to my review.

Hey, its bar food. The pizza's are not fresh, the burgers are over cooked and the salads are a bit wilty and drenched unless you order all the components separate and toss it yourself!! I ONCE asked that one of the salads, even though nuts were not on the ingredient list of the salad on the menu be left out and the saucy waitperson interrogated me whether I was allergic to nuts or not...WHO THE F*&K CARES...NO NUTS!! (Well thats what I wanted to say but instead opted for the ...."why yes I am!!" The bar service can be hit or miss...the martini type drinks really should be served in a properly chilled martini glass and the waitstaff should not ARGUE WITH YOU If your drink appears to be wrong.

The coffee ... if you dare try to enjoy it with the not baked or prepared there desserts is AWFUL. But then again...ITS A BAR!!!

Here is the bottom line...I probably wont return to First and Main for a long time and only in deserpation and here is why....when you ADVERTISE that you are open and serving dinner late...THEN SERVE DINNER LATE...I strolled in on a second ocassion around 9:00 and was greeted by ..."We were slow so we closed the kitchen..." that was the proverbial straw...

Downtown Los Altos is a brutal restaurant/bar survivial environment. In this time and economy establishing yourself as YOU ADVERTISE YOURSELF is crucial in your long term success. Bar food and bad coffee will not destroy your success as much as not being open and available to the regular patron....like....me

Trying to do too much in one place. It would be great if it was just a sport's bar, but the restaurant menu offers expensive burgers and bar food that leaves you feeling ripped off. Stick with the bar and the big screens and you'll do alright, despite the bill.

Maybe they should hire a chef who knows how to cook a burger that doesn't taste like rodent.

However, the waitress was nice, but maybe she shouldn't use the word "awesome" so much, especially when describing the food. Definitely made us laugh, at her expense. Thanks

I am SO excited to see a place like this in Los Altos, but even more excited for it to class itself up a tad before I go back!

Went in about two weekends ago, and liked what I saw internally, and there were PLENTY of HDTV's for sport viewing pleasure. But...

-The "Personal pizza" is so personal [SMALL], that only half of yourself will be able to eat it and think it was a full meal. It should have been on the kid's menu.

-The crab sandwich (which was recommended by our waitress) was like muck on bread.  It didn't taste fresh.

-Not only did our waitress take FOREVER to give us back our change (we were sitting RIGHT by the cash register, so, I don't know how she could have missed it) gave us back INCORRECT change in favor of her (i.e. the bill was like $68.50, I gave her a $100 bill, she gave me back $31) - so I asked her thinking it was a mistake and she looked at me all crazy and literally said: "Oh, you wanted like... the coins?!"

-Owner/Manager/Head Man went to EVERY SINGLE table besides ours - TWICE - to meet and greet. When he was in ear shot I called him over and asked him why we were left out of the rounds and since he couldn't get out a response, he complimented my PURSE! Thanks buddy, THAT'S what I wanted to hear. No, no it wasn't.

I'm excited for the prospect of Los Altos having a place to watch sports in a nice atmosphere - and it's plain to see that we clearly ordered the WRONG things, but it needs some fine tweaking before it can get a higher rating from me.
