Good beer selection, fine food, it will do. Love the decor and the atmosphere. I am really surprised however, at how many people praise the service here! I've been coming ever since I moved in down the street a year ago and every time hope it's going to get better. I've spent half my night trying to get a refill - turned around in my chair staring down a waitress who is talking to the bartender/watching TV. After we get our food we're often forgotten for the rest of the night. Once we waited 15 minutes after finally flagging someone down and asking for a check to receive that check. I understand being busy, I have worked in restaurants before, even an eye-check would help. I almost want to take it personally when I am in there, and now that I see how many people claim they have had fine service, good even, I might start! I don't know what I did to make you mad, Flying Pig, I have always just wanted to love you!

The rest of my party told me it was my fault for getting anything other than pork at a place called the Flying Pig. So yes, maybe I didn't capitalize.
I will say they have a great craft beer selection!! The place is very cute and kitschy with lots of flying pigs and piggy decor hanging from the ceilings and vintage beer signs and posters on the walls.
After trying a couple of different IPA's, I was starving and ready for a nice, juicy Prime Rib Sandwich. I ordered a side of garlic aioli for the fries, and that was a solid combo, I definitely filled up on those. This was partly because they were good fries, but mostly because that sandwich was just NOT good. After hitting the first chewy hunk of cold, clear fat, I opened it up to find that too much of the sandwich was this inedible fatty texture. I should have taken the advice of council and gotten the grilled cheese, or one of the pork sandwiches, but I really didn't expect the Prime Rib to be this bad. Everyone else in my party of 8 seemed overall happy with their orders, so maybe this is one of the only items on the menu that is a miss.

All I have to say is that this place has, by far, the best grilled cheese on the face of the Earth! Do yourself a favor; go to this place and order the cheesy pig. Choice of two cheeses, plus bacon, ham, and tomato? ZOMG!

I really enjoy this place.  I've been here about 4 or 5 times now and its make for a great local watering hole.  First of all, don't let the outside intimidate you.  Its a little beat up on the outside, and also on the inside, but all the more appeal in my opinion.  You will find a small square bar on the inside filled with an eclectic mix of humans and tables strewn about everywhere.  You will also find an excellent bottled beer selection and rotating taps.  The real gem is their collection of bottle conditioned beers at very fair prices.  Pay a visit and order anything with pork as the main ingredient.

Love this place. Just moved to the area and have been there twice. I went for lunch with my dad and the pulled pork with jalapeños was recommended by the water. It didn't disappoint.

Also went there on a Saturday night. It was packed but not too packed and had a good mix of people. Everyone from college age to gray hairs. Everyone mixes well.

Great craft beer list and good bar food.  We popped in here to watch some NFL playoff games.  The crowd is mostly local but you can run into a few travelers here; or, at least, I did.  The atmosphere is dark but lively.  The bartenders are friendly and will let you try any beer you like.  A group of 8 guys, we ended up ordering a bunch of pub grub that was sinfully delicious.  The fries are large cut, steak fries and I found myself going back for more.  I ended up splurging even further and splitting a nacho plate which ranked high on my list, as the toppings were plentiful.  I don't find myself in Malvern often but if I shall return, this will be on my list.

This place looks real shady from the outside, but don't let that fool you. There's been a really well-built draft list each of the three times I've been here over the past couple years, and the food is definitely above average for a pub.

It's kind of dark and quirky inside but it gives the place an interesting ambiance. There's a small lounge kind of space with a couch which is uncommon for bars  but kind of cool. It's never been free when I've been there, but someday I'll walk in at just the right moment.

I came here for a short retreat from the weekend Retreat myself and some friends were attending nearby. Overall, it has a great atmosphere and is a perfect spot to saddle up for a big game. The food is good, in particular and not surprisingly the pork.  However, the service leaves a bit to be desired. The waitresses all were working their tails off (pun), but the operation seemed inefficient and certainly understaffed.  Overall, a nice find in Malvern with a great beer selection.

This is what all dark and dive-y bars should be.  Its charming and grungy and has truly excellent beer selection.  You can tell it has a revolving cast of regulars on first-name basis with all of the staff and the food is appropriately fried with a gentle hint of sophistication (sweet potato fries with fun dips etc.).  Its just a nice balance of true bar-atmosphere with interior design, menu and alcohol accents that make it charming.

I could see giving this place 2 stars, or 4, so I averaged it out.  But it really depends on what you are looking for, and when you go.

Why 2 stars:  The outside is not impressive.  Looks like a corner dive bar that you would be hesitant to walk into if you didn't know about it.  Its fairly small.  My wife and I went on a Friday around happy hour.  The place was packed.  It was so loud, and I mean loud.  You could barely hear the person next to you.  The male to female ratio was about 10 guys for every 1 girl.  I would not leave a woman alone in this bar.  lol  Not sure if there was any music playing, you certainly weren't going to hear it.  Did I mention it was loud?  We lasted for a beer, then left.

Why 4 stars:  Well, if you like any of the above...  Perhaps on a non-Friday, non-happy hour, things might be different.  They definitely had a huge selection of beers, and while we didn't eat, it looked like a good selection of food.  Everyone seemed friendly, some old guy started talking to us out of the blue.  I might go back, but...

This is my favorite place in Malvern. I go every Friday for a few afternoon beers, and I have yet to be disappointed. Incredible beer list that changes weekly (I try a new draft every week), and tasty pub grub. We've only been going for a few weeks, and the waitress already recognizes us and recommends beers based on our previous orders. Overall, awesome local place with great service and unmatched beer selection.

The bastard son of a pretentious beer bar. Don't come here if you expect to discuss the subtle hint of stone fruit in your beverage, but expect that level of drink nonetheless. The bar's draft and bottle list easily keeps pace or surpasses most bars in center city, but at half the price. If you love good beer (or pig ornaments) without the pretentiousness, you found your bar.
Only had drinks, so I can't speak for the food. From what I saw, it looked like pretty standard pub-grub, but I couldn't speak to it one way or the other.

Had not been here for years and last time I went it was musty inside and felt like it needed some cleaning/airing out - though I would still go because the beers were great and they have great sandwiches. Went in August 2012 and place felt totally different - cleaned up, great new food items, a definite recommendation in my book!

I'd been in Malvern 30/+ times before I found this joint.

It never would've happened without a local referral. So glad I was finally clued in after years of traveling aimlessly up and down Rt. 30, which is right around the block from this place (smacks forehead!).

Great bar food, from the apps to the burgers, etc. Interesting, though limited specials (ya gotta love a Reuben Cheesesteak).

But, let's get to what really matters. This place has an awesome vibe, excellent & friendly service and the beer options are fabulous (a few small craft standards & others that were way off my radar).

Really friendly people abound... both patrons and employees. I'll be back, and I already look forward to it.

Very pleasantly surprised by this joint.  Sandwiches were big and tasty.  They have an extensive beer selection, although mostly bottles.

The only thing that was disappointing in any way was that I forgot my leftovers!  Definitely one of the better Cuban sandwiches we've had in the area.  The marinade they used for the roast pork was quite flavorful. The Barnyard sandwich was fantastic  Essentially. a cheese steak, combined with a chicken cheese steak, plus some bacon and a tasty sauce.

For a Wednesday dinner, it was quite busy and lively.   By the time we left finished dinner, the noise levels were starting to get a bit much.

Several reviews have mentioned poor service, but the wait staff seemed fine.  Around enough to be helpful, but mostly left us be to enjoy our dinner and drinks.

Oh, The Flying Pig, how glad I am to have met you! After years of being a TJs and Teresa's Next Door devotee, I was certain that another comparable beer bar could not exist, let alone thrive, on the Main Line.  Fortunately, I was wrong!  Stuck in the middle of Malvern, just a couple of blocks from the train station, sits The Flying Pig.

Since my first experience here, I have been hooked.  They have an extensive beer list (somewhere in size between the aforementioned TJs and Teresa's), and great food.  There are two things that set them apart from those establishments though.  First, this is a neighborhood dive.  It's not a classy upscale Belgian eatery like Teresa's is, nor is it the strip-mall and sterilized feel of TJs.  It's just a little corner pub in a typical old neighborhood.  Secondly, it's a LOT cheaper than the other places.  Many of the hard-to-find Belgian beers that can be found here are $2 to $3 cheaper than the alternates.  Same goes for the food.  It's not gourmet fare by any means, and don't come here looking for escargot.  But if you want a satisfying greasy sandwich, then this is a great place to go.

I give this place such a high rating because it has much of what can be found at much more pretentious, crowded and expensive places, for much cheaper and easier (although I still will continue to frequent said places, if for no other reason than convenience to my abode).

This little secret in Malvern is not so well kept. What do I mean? For starters, it's literally in a small shopping center in the middle of nowhere. You'd think when you enter this Saloon, you'd be walking into a dead dive. Not the case.

This spot must have built a nice reputation because each time I stepped in there, very crowded. And it doesn't appear to be just a local hang, but the class of people seem up there too.

Now, I never ate there the two times I ventured, but as a beer advocate, this place packs an awesome selection and at fair prices.

Love the theme. Seriously, pigs are everywhere and they add an extra level of charm. I'll go back to eat sooner or later, but it will mostly be to grab me some solic Rauchbier.

A great dive bar with a huge selection of beer.  I'm always a sucker for an awesome banner and the Flying Pig always amuses me upon entry with its sign.  The place offers some good food.  I recommend the pulled pork sandwich.  Mainly, for me, as a local, the beer selection sells me on this bar.

It is also located in a great area for you to walk around if on a date or just stumbling out of the bar.  Though I do not suggest the later.

I went here with my aunt and uncle right after I got into the Philly area. I was really impressed by the service that we got with a large group we're meeting there. The server knows all their first names, now that is impressive!

When you first walk into the place you notice the old wood floors, then you look up and see all the pigs that are hanging down from the raptors. This place as a really cool old bar smell as well. You really only smell it when you first walk into the place. After that, it just went away.

I think they have a pretty good selection of wine/beer/ hard drink to choice from. You can also order food from the menu which I hear is pretty good.

If I go back anytime soon, I'll be go back to the Flying Pig!

A perfect "dive" bar that has an awesome beer selection (both on tap and bottles). Friendly bartenders and welcoming crowd of regulars. Very crowded on weekends, but always a crowded bar any night.

Not a big fan of the food, but it will suffice to build a buffer for all the beer you'll drink. Has live music some nights, which honestly can be overwhelming in such a small place.

Wow! What a selection of beer!! I am totally down for this type of dive atmosphere and, as a pig lover myself, would kill for their collection of pigs which are scattered throughout the place (mostly hanging from the ceiling).

Also need to comment that their sandwiches are so yummy, cheesy greasy and delicious!  I wish I lived closer so that I could go there and have one of their sandwiches cure my hangover from the day before.

Malvern is short on good places to eat and drink. It is a small town after all. So by default somewhat the Pig is the hot spot. Aside from monopoly though, it does provide a unique beer offering and good food.

First off, many know the staff got some bad reviews in years past, either just unfriendly or lacking knowledge of the beers on tap. Today I would say the staff is much better, with Marissa and Bethanie as stand outs. It's also nice to see the owners there regularly, pulling the tap and offing beer info.

Most don't come here for a Bud. The on tap selections change regularly and you'll find many new-to-you beers. Some are high test which will be noted on the board. Backing that up is a full line of bottled beers. Almost all countries are represented. They are happy to give tasters so ask, no reason to drink beer you don't like. There is also a brew on a beer engine for those traditionalists.

The food is surprisingly good for what is really a bar. Cheesesteaks, hamburgers, fries, fresh salads, and a number of interesting options. My favorite is the Prime Example, a  prime rib sandwich on ciabatta with cheese, horseradish spread, onions and au jus.

Great for lunch and dinner. Kid friendly until the bar gets busy. It's crowded and loud on party nights. Lots of TVs and sports are always on. Juke box, Golden Tee.

I'd like to see them open up the wi-fi for patrons. :)

The Flying Pig Saloon is a cute, semi-divey bar. Its walls are covered with pig-themed pictures, statues, and trinkets, and there are couches in some of the corners.

I work nearby, so I've been here once for a happy hour and another time for lunch. They have a pretty good beer selection. For lunch, I had a delicious California special wrap, which was grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing, and avocados.

This place is a gem. Truth be told, I'm completely unfamiliar with the Malvern area despite working around there for almost a year.

I went here last week with a few co-workers, to see one of our colleagues off into non-co-worker status-land.

I didn't know what to expect. The place looks like your typical bar, so I expected your typical bar food. And for the most part, that's what you'll find on the menu. As far as beer goes, there's a nice selection of craft brews in bottles and on draft. I always appreciate that.

Where this place really shines are the specialty sandwiches. I ordered "The Barnyard" - which was basically a beef, grilled chicken and bacon cheesesteak with choice of cheese, aioli and roasted red peppers. Holy cow. It was amazing, it was probably one of the best unexpected orders I'd ever made.

I'd welcome another chance to come back for lunch and feast on their other creations.

Also -- there were six of us who came here for lunch, all of us ordered a meal and half of us had 1 drink. The bill came out to just under $70, which in my opinion is more than fairly priced.

I landed there as part of a company celebration (we are a low keyed company who likes beer).  The combination of warm and cozy interior combined with a terrific beer menu and what was a fantastic roast pork  sandwich with extra sharp provolone and long hots (best I've had outside South Philly) made this an instant favorite (I just wish I lived closer)

I am not the beer aficionado that many of the people in my company are but I had a recommended porter that was terrific and I heard many OOOOO's and AHHHH's from the thrilled and satisfied palates of my fellow guests.

We need more places like the Pig in America (seriously) with all of the corporate restaurants with too many microwave ovens and falsely cheerful servers we need places that reconnect us with what our identity was back in the day when politics and sports were openly discussed, argued and share in public spots all over the country.  Places like this should be celebrated and enjoyed.  The only reason I don't give the Pig a 5 is because I think I want to revisit before claiming its as good as it gets but I think its well on its way to 5+.

Nirvana. Arcadia. Heaven. Perfection.  These words do not properly describe The Flying Pig.

If you love...I mean love in a way that some would call unnatural...pubs, traditional bars, or good old fashioned watering holes...you will love The Flying Pig.  If you go to some crappy chain place where you can get 3.99 buffalo wings and 2 dollar draft bud...then you will hate The Flying Pig...and guess what...The Flying Pig hates you.

The Flying Pig is for people who want to watch sports, listen to a great jukebox and drink some of the finest beer this planet has to offer. Yes, you will pay 5,6, sometimes 7 bucks for a pint...and if you believe in the healing power of beer...you will know that it is a cheap price to pay.

The food is good, I wouldn't say outstanding, but it is very good. The sandwiches are excellent, the mozzarella sticks were great, and the cheese fries were good, but not crisp enough.  The food is all about one dollar too much for what you get, but it is what it is.

They have at least 6 or 7 tv's to watch the games, the decor is rustic and comforting.

This is one of the finest bars I have ever been in...and I have been in a lot!

I SO wanted to LOVE the Flying Pig but sadly I didn't :(
The beer selection was quite extensive - of course my beer connoisseur husband only found TWO (IPA's) that he liked.
I had a cask condtioned ESA (extra special ale) which was
very good. The FIRST bartender we had was awesome -
giving suggestions & letting us try beers.  The relief bartender was a DOLT. He needs to ask Santa for a personality next Christmas.
    Come on dude - you're a BARTENDER!
We both had the dinner SPECIALS - i had shrimp, husband had some
Octoberfest sausage special - both were VERY average, maybe even below.... Assuming I go a next time I think I would try one of their sandwiches.  If we lived closer we'd probably give it another go but there are  WAY TOO MANY good (better) beer places near our house in  Bucks County. (Union Jack's, Iron Abbey, Tony's Bar & Grill)

Let's keep in mind this is a "saloon" or bar.  But a "dive bar" it is not. You're either a girly-girl or never actually set foot in a real dive bar (see Plumstead Inn Media, The Wave Drexel Hill).  This is a pub.

The Pig's beer selection is the best you will find just about anywhere.  Do you like IPAs, stouts, pilsners, barley wines from Belgium, across the USA, Czech Republic, Japan? You name it they probably have it either on tap or in bottle.  They keep the beer list fresh and are bold enough to offer an eclectic selection including seasonal brews.

The food is good traditional pub grub.  It's a small corner bar that you can take your date, boss or parents and all are sure to enjoy the fine beers and a crab cake sandwich.

If you are looking to become a beer connoisseur, this is the place to start.

The beer enthusiast inside of me requires that I give 5 stars.

If you're a beer fan living around Philly, I highly recommend making a visit to the Pig, since it has one of the best beer selections in the Philadelphia area. A fantastic selection of Belgian beers. The Flying Pig is a rarity, because there are not many bars in suburban Philadelphia with that vast of a selection. If you're hungry, the food is decent, but not out of this world.

The Pig is definitely a local hangout, and the crowd can vary widely depending on the time of day. Numerous reviews have refereed  to the Flying Pig as a "dive bar," which couldn't be further from the truth. If you think the Flying Pig a dive bar, then you've never stepped foot in a real dive bar.

If you live in the Malvern area, you don't have that many options to go out. The Pig can definitely be considered Malvern's watering hole. You'll run into people you haven't seen in a long time whether they're 45 or 21.

The beer selection is great. There's something on the list for everyone. There's always plenty of tables free while the bar stays more crowded. There's also a couple couches that I don't think I've ever seen anyone use.

I was here once during a power outage which was quite an experience. They used the generators to keep the beer cold and the Christmas lights glowing. It was kind of funny but hey why sit at home in the dark during a massive power outage?

We just moved to Malvern and the first place we tried was the Flying Pig.  We live within walking distance, which makes for an easy decision on where to go.

The food is great bar food, sandwiches are excellent - so far, we've tried the prime rib (outstanding), grilled cheese with ham (excellent), cuban (yummy) as well as a variety of appetizers.

I'm not a beer drinker, but if you have one in the family, this is the place for them.  They have a ton of beers available, listed including alcohol percentage.

This has become one of our favorite bars/restaurants.

    Imagine this....
You walk into a bar, it's filled with the town's good old people. You don't know anyone, but feel comfortable enough to take a seat next to a townie at the bar.
Ok, so let's peruse what they have on tap.....
No, bud, no coors, no miller....just a delightful array of foreign ales, ciders, brews, as well as your standards - Yards, Victory, etc. ...

I had the Flemish Sour Cherry Ale - taste of cherry and vinegar, at first it was a little hard to take, but by the end I was thoroughly enjoying it and drunk...

Thank goodness I could walk home. I think this would be a good place to stop after a walk around town. A shade pricey for these foreign beers, but what's new.

So I checked out this bar a few weeks ago for a happy hour.  While the parking situation kinda sucks here - I prefer lots to street parking, I did luck out and found a spot within yards of the bar.  Definitely dive bar-ish, but as everyone else mentioned, cute pigs with wings everywhere!  They were so cute the klepto in me was about to come out...  But anyway, they had a pretty large variety of fun-named beers.  I forgot the name of the beer I had but it was berry tasting and deelish.

Definitely recommended for enthusiastic beer drinkers.

This place is a pretty down-to-earth neighbor hood dive. Albeit the neighbor hood isn't all that down-to-earth, thus the assortment of great beer and flying pigs.

As in other establishments in Malvern the crowd is an interesting blend of old and young, wealthy, trendy and just slummin. I suppose this is pretty average for the Mainline. But because of that I don't really recommend this place unless that doesn't bother you at all, or you bring your own set of friends to have a good time. Otherwise who knows, you'll end up having one beer, getting bored and going home.

The great beer selection, cute pig decor, and comfy couches in the front made this a great happy hour place.

It's not too often that you'll find me in Malvern, but a friend hosted a happy hour here and I was intrigued.  There were no happy hour specials per se, but the ~100+ beer choices were enough for me.  Both the cherry sour ale on draft and the Lucifer (Belgian strong ale) that I tried were delish.

The decor was cute and comfy - pigs EVERYWHERE... but not tackily so.  I appreciated the little lounge area with comfy couches to chill on, and the wooden walls and bar made this place seem quite cozy.

The place seemed a little unaccustomed to our large noisy group of 15 or so... the staff handled it well and were friendly, but our waitresses seemed a little overwhelmed at times.  The rest of the crowd appeared to be somewhat regulars.  I wouldn't come here with such a large group next time, but certainly with a couple of friends.

    Get your swine on.

A friend recommended the Flying Pig Saloon to me, and after holding a happy hour there, it was obvious why she did. The Saloon is a comfortable semi-divey bar, with a fun corner with couches, and dining room seating. True to their name, there are piggies EVERYWHERE, of every kind: posters, ceramic ones, paper ones, flying ones, sitting ones. This place has more character than you can shake a pig at.

Our friendly, primary server (Carol) managed to handle our fairly large group (about 15 folks; most of the time). Assorted staff also served us, though one waitress seemed pretty bitchy. Bartender Mike was on the ball, making us cherry kamikazes. (Drinking enthusiasts, be sure to check out their extensive beer selection.) At one point, someone knocked down a lamp. Fred, one of the owners, came over to make sure everything was okay - what a cool guy! Yes, there are some potentially breakable items inside, but the Saloon is generally drunk-friendly[1]. Besides our group, there was a healthy crowd for a Thursday. (Yes, people were smoking, but ventilation was pretty good.)

Per Carol's suggestion, I had a tasty double-layered grilled cheese sandwich with ham[2], which came with a pickle! Oh, and before I forget, order the macaroni and cheese with lobster. Trust me.

    [1] Please drink responsibly.
    [2] Oink, oink.

Great beer selection but I haven't eaten there. Love the "pig-themed" decor. Try to get the lounge seating in front - comfortable chairs and couches with inexplicable kid-art and pig tchochkes abound.

Last time I was there the bartender was really sullen to our group, not sure why.

Can get crowded, making the bar hard to access.

A great neighborhood pub!  The selection and variety of beer on tap and in a bottle has got to be the best in Chester County if not all of Philly.  Eulogy and Monks would rival the Pig in this category.

Good pub-fare!  Daily happy hour specials - Wednesday Prime Rib is top shelf!!

Very eclectic mix of patrons ranging from the locals of Malvern to construction workers to Vanguard and Wyeth staff.

Great pub for a cold pint and pub grub!  Just be aware that this isn't the City and smoking is very much allowed.

So although I played on a baseball that was sponsored by them (we were the Chester Valley Flying Pigs), I'm not a huge fan of the Pig.  My guess is that my unfair biased is based on my proximity to the bar my entire life.

The best aspect of The Pig is it's beer selection.  I have never found another neighborhood pub with such an extensive list of imported, domestic and micro-brewed beer.

The worst aspect of The Pig is the crowd.  It can be a weird mix of older locals and 20 somethings.
