I came here for a meet up for Girl's Night...and needless to say I thought it was just alright. They had a room for all of us with vendors, some free food (bar food), and tables to sit at. We bought drinks, which were carefully measured. Overall I would say it was a pretty drab event. I would come here again for drinks or to watch a game, but it wouldn't be a regular hangout place for me or a place I would come to for events. The service was ok...not anything to brag about. It was clean, I will give them that!
Review Source:This place off the bat gets big points for being true to its claim as a sports bar. Whatever sport or team you want to watch, you can get it. Too many places call themselves sports bars, then dole out only Chicago teams' coverage. This is also a pretty comfortable place to go to. Lots of drink specials-Tuesdays here are 2nd to none with $2 pints on all 36 drafts, which makes it regularly one of it's busier nights. Drinks are fairly priced otherwise compared to other nearby bars. I find this place closest to the atmosphere of the old neighboring Pockets Sports Bar of the past than the place that actually replaced it, The Foundry. Lots of pool tables for those who play spread in the outside 2 rooms, as well as darts. A good selection of TVs to watch sports spread out well around the seating. And the seating layout in the main middle room is good, close enough to give it more an intimate feel, but not too much to be uncomfortable. The bar is long and is patrolled by some of the most enthusiastic, genuine and friendly bartenders in the area who make their patrons feel very welcome, without pretense. I've rarely seen them unable to make an accommodation, no matter how silly it may sound. That can be said of most of the staff, which is younger in the table waiting end of the roster. The food is better the past year or so. I noticed a lot before was typical fried bar fare (including wings), burgers, nachos, a few sandwiches. Though that's still the basis, there seems more offerings in those categories with a menu that has been done over the past couple years, including an awareness of "healthier" choices. I've never eaten there regularly, but was satisfied when I have recently, munching on a good sized grilled chicken sandwich. The outside 2 rooms are spacious and have a huge, easy to see from most of the room TVs-one room harboring more pool tables than seating, and a bar. The other more seating than tables, and a lot of space for private parties which this place seems to cater to quite often, and UFC viewing. That's nice because on those nights fight fans don't overwhelm those who go for other reasons.. There are definitely places with better food, a more updated interior, and, I don't know, a more special, electric atmosphere-I don't quite know how to describe what I think this place is missing from the more "place-to-be" joints. The location is good with more parking than it could ever imagine needing. And for those who choose to eat somewhere else before or after, it's surrounded by the Fox Valley Mall's satellite restaurants, including a handful of fast food places still open after closing time. It' a comfortable, well located bar with plenty to drink and enough food should you want it. But nothing real exceptional.
Review Source:I've been here several times and honestly this is one of my favorite places in the Naperville area to grab drinks. The drinks are relatively cheap, and they have a huge selection of beers. They also have a lot of really cool special events. I recommend joining the All Star Club because you can get things like free specials, and even big beers for the price of the small beers. This is also one of my favorite places to go on a date because they have pool and shuffleboard. I highly recommend coming here!
Review Source:Cannot express how much I really hate this chain. Â I visited one in Bloomingdale and did not have anything good to say, but I went to this one because it was a friend's choice for her birthday and they give you a free sandwich if you sign up for their "club" card. Â The only good thing I can say is that I certainly got what I paid for...
I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, which tasted like it was fresh out of a deep freeze for about a year, barely warmed up but then left to return to room temperature before being served. Â My friend (the one with the birthday) ordered the same thing and she could see and taste the freezer burn on her chicken. Â Our other companion ordered a well done burger, which while cooked to the correct temperature was also left to return to room temperature before being served. Â The onion rings were passable but obviously right out of a frozen bag.
The manager tried to help out by offering to have the meals redone (kudos), however we had already waited plenty and declined. Â I offered she could buy us a round of drinks instead which she was more than happy to oblige. Â
Except for bringing the management's attention to our displeasure (again kudos for that) the waitress was just shy of being completely vacant. Â We had to repeat ourselves to her often, to which she would answer "yeah", "ok", "uh-huh" and specifically "I promise to be more attentive" were empty promises at that.
If our meals weren't mostly free (1 of our "gifts" had expired) and we hadn't received a free round of drinks, I wouldn't have even given them the 1 star.
Avoid this place at all costs in my opinion.
Oh and although not part of my review rating, I thought it was extremely odd that there were 4 "hostesses" standing at the front door, whose only job (and I quote) is to "greet customers and tell you where to smoke".
We enjoy coming here to watch UFC fights. Â I also really like the beer menu. Â They have several good craft beers if you ask to see the expanded beer menu. Â Food is good, too. Â Tasty appetizers and also good sandwiches. Â Last time I had the Jamaican Chicken to try and be a little healthier and it was very good. Â Every time we come, we also must have the Great Cookie Blitz. Â The decor and bathrooms could be updated/cleaner, but otherwise we enjoy coming here. Â Fun place to meet up with friends.
Review Source:I've been here more than a few times- and for starters, the burgers are pretty good. Â My chicken wing experience was above average, but not outstanding. Â The wings were more on the crispy end, without much breading, but the sauce packed a punch and the chicken was properly cooked inside. Â Different strokes, I suppose...
There are enough drink specials ($3 Bud/Bud Light drafts on Sundays and $2 on ALL drafts on Tuesdays) and pool tables to make this place worth a stop.
Music is audible, but not overpowering. Â Overall, a good place to go if you want to have conversation with your friends over a few drinks without having to scream at each other.
Well, our first visit to Fox and Hound in Aurora didn't start off on the right foot.
We got there at about 6:30pm on a Friday afternoon, and even though the place was NOT busy, we waited almost 10 minutes before someone approached the table.
One of the managers walked over to our table and took our drink orders and apologized that we had been waiting for that long, so we will chalk that up to miscommunication. Â Water under the bridge, no big deal.
I ordered the BYO Combo, which came with half rack of ribs and choice between chicken fingers, chicken wing or (I forgot). Â I had the chicken wings (spicy garlic), they were phenomenal. Â The ribs were above average, but combined with the wings, I thought it was a good deal.
Even though we started off with bad (no) service, when we actually got our server (Claire), she was very attentive and quick with our orders. Â
At the end, we asked one of the managers who helped bring out our food (Genna) if they would honor a half off one entree coupon for a birthday that had expired a couple of days before. Â She was very nice about it and took the coupon even though it was expired. Â
Major plus for customer service for both Genna and Claire. Â
Food was really good, prices were reasonable.
Only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the lengthy wait in the beggining.
Hopefully I'll be able to change this review to 5 stars after our next visit!
I love this place individually, and my husband and I adore the food and the atmosphere. Â It's a standard sports bar, but their food is far better than any other sports bar I've gone to. Â We don't particularly like sports ourselves, but they also play music videos that neither of us have seen in YEARS so it's fun to sit around and laugh over our memories while we eat. Â Their drink menu is good, I recommend the giant margarita.
I highly recommend this place if you are hosting an event. Â I co-hosted a bridal shower here. Â Kiley, the event coordinator, was very friendly and helpful from the beginning to the end. Â She provided all of our options and pricing in a timely manner, and was always available and happy to answer questions and go over options as our head count changed and our ideas wandered. Â Our room was blocked off from the general chaos of the bar, we were provided with our own serving staff, and everything went smoothy. Â
The only cautions I would give for hosting a party there are as follows:
- Prices seemed very high for bar food (again, the food is AWESOME there so you won't be disappointed. Â Still, it's not cheap).
- Bars are noisy! Â The bride and groom were difficult to hear over the other guests even though our room was separated. Â Of course it is a bar, and it was a Bears game going on. Â However we didn't think of this ahead of time, so keep it in mind. Â They may offer a microphone which would fix the issue, however we didn't ask so I'm not sure.
I would not recommend this place for any sporting events.
They have numerous great beers on draft - but if you're trying to watch a specific game - Plan on the managers turning the channel on you. When I asked the manager to return the TV to the college football game that I was watching, he started an argument with me saying that everyone else in the bar wanted to watch something else --- Must be he was blind because there wasn't another person in the bar watching any of the 10 TVS.
Customer Service? Must be foreign...
It's worth checking out again! Â After a three year hiatus from this place, I decided to visit Fox & Hound again thanks to Groupon. Â
I don't have the fondest memories of this place from 3-4yrs ago, the food options weren't that great and the service tended to be lacking. Â
BUT Last weekend I had dinner with my sister and brother-in-law and we all were glad we tried this place again. Â First, the service was great and our waitress was quick with refills and drink orders. Â Second, the menu had been updated and there is a lot more variety than there used to be. Â We ordered our dinners, my sis and brother-in-law both had a bowl of chili and beer cheese soup to start which they said was good. Â For dinner I had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap which was yummy with a side of fries that were hot, crunchy, and not too greasy. Â I can't remember what my sis and brother-in-law had, but I do know that they were both pleased with their orders. Â All three of us are looking forward to visiting Fox & Hound again.
This place is a great choice if you are a sports junkie, there are many TV's featuring any game you might want to watch. Â The drinks menu is also very large, so if you want a long island or a specialty beer, they've got it all.
Lesson is, if you haven't given this place a chance in a while, try it again. Â Things have definitely changed for the better! Â If this will be your first visit enjoy the food and well stocked bar.
The food menu has a lot of decent items, but the beer 'selection' is in reality a parade of lesser known beers that arent popular for good reason. I'm a beer snob, I will boast about that, but this is the band of misfit beers that nobody picks up for good reason. Its a corporate strip-mall drinking experience for yuppies
Review Source:Came here the other night for a few drinks and to play pool. Â The lady who opened the door for was pleasant and helped us get set up to play pool. Â But when we got to our pool table we were right in the middle of a party with tons of little kids. Â I was confused that the kids were there at all since this is mainly a bar, but their parents were at a few tables away and let the kids play pool. Â I know this annoyance is not the the fault of the Fox and the Hound but since we were put there it seems that no waitress wanted to help us either. Â We started to play pool and no waitress for about 10 minutes. Â I went up to the nearest waitress (who was helping the party filled with children) she said she would send our waitress over. Â She never came. Â We weren't going to go to the bar since once we saw the condition of their pool tables we knew we would be there for only a little while anyway. Â The pool table we had was falling apart, yes! It was uneven and the frame was cracked and looked like it was going to give if someone were to lean on it a certain way.
This was a Sunday evening, not too busy, there were plenty of wait staff standing around, poor attitude by the staff, never ended up buying any drink that night. Â We left within 30 minutes.
Nothing opulent, nothing trashy. It is a solid sports bar for people to kick back and relax in. Their service is very friendly and you can play darts for free.
They have plenty of TVs to watch various sporting events, and surprisingly, it does not get THAT loud. They have great beer selections. Not sure what to say about their food since I do not order any. Cheers!
I'm not entirely sure what makes this an English pub but for a suburban strip mall bar, it's not bad. Â The beer selection is nice and the servers are helpful. Â Some of their drink specials during the week are nice. Â However, whenever i'm there our server always gets cut around 9pm and we have to close out and start over with a new tab.
Review Source:I'm down with F&H for the occasional brew or dos. Yes, it's in a strip mall. No, it's not swanky but there is ample parking, friendly staff and plenty of seating. Also, they offer some kick azz specials and the manager is really super nice and friendly. Hopefully this shout out will cross me off the sh*t list for branding the bar with my name tag, whoops.
I've never eaten anything here (as my fellow Yelp!-er Shaun P. will vouch, we don't eat when we drink...don't wanna f*ck up our buzz) but everything that I've seen exit the kitchen looks heart attack inducingly delicious. I also like coming here before rollin over to LIT across the parking lot. Â
I'll def continue to stop in here for the occasional drink either before (or after) my main event.
SN: Â the sugar free margarita is not good. Â Actually, I have yet to have a good sugar free cocktail so just forget it and go for the good stuff.
This is a decent bar, lots of parking. Â At first I thought it was kind of weird that it was in a strip mall, but once you get inside the decor helps to make you forget the exterior.
If you get a table in the back there is more space and I can actually hear the people I am with. Â Plus you can play darts for free.
I love their pretzels. Â They come out of the kitchen hot and not overdone. Â I would come here all the time just for the pretzels if I could.
This place has progressively gone down hill. Granted, they've been open for a while now - at least 15 years?
Learned recently that they now have a 'No Hat' rule... really? You're a PUB (Bar) with a load of pool tables and bar based games. This isn't a dance club loaded with ecstasy tripping girls... this is a freakin PUB. Get over yourself Mr. General Manager.
I have grown to despise this place over the years and really don't want to waste my time telling you why... just go there and you'll realize it's a dump.
This place is alright. It's an ok place to meet up with people for a drink before going out or to watch the UFC fights, but other than that I wouldn't hang out here for the night.
I stopped in here recently to meet up with a few friends before going out for some serious partying and I was a little uncomfortable with the amount of police they had here. I'm not sure if they usually have problems that need a large group of cops to be on hand at all times, but, just like clubs that search people at the door, this was definitely not a good sign, especially since it was during the week.
The drinks are cheap, the food is good, and the service is so-so. But, like I said, it's an ok place. I've been here quite a few times, but I probably won't be back anytime soon, unless it's to pick up a friend who is way to drunk to drive home.
Holla!!!â„¢
Great place for a beer, especially Tuesday night. Â $2 pitchers for anything, and they generally have a few good beers on tap (There is a great selection, I'm just a snob).
Darts are free (at least last time I checked), pool is cheap, and special events are pretty fun. Â Easy parking and the help has been very good in my experience.
The hot honey wings are great, and so are a few of the other flavors. Â Joining the all star brew club might get you a free $10 on your next visit, so fill out the card! Â The perks add up later on also.
Music is usually top10, but its a good location for football or UFC.
The Fox and Hound is a pretty good place to grab a burger and beer. This place is definitely a diet buster since the menu is limited to bar food. The cheese fries are definitely worth a try. Who can resist cheese, fries, bacon and ranch dressing? The burgers have always been consistently good. Though I would be leery of the wraps. They sound and taste great but are a mess to eat. Half the food ends out on the plate.
The service is friendly but a little ditzy. It's not uncommon to have food arrive right during the appetizers or for the waiter to forget to bring the Guinness (for the love of God!). But otherwise the staff is very cool.
The Fox and Hound is a pretty laid back place. If you want to hang with a couple friends to sit back and chill, this is a good place to go. Impress your friends with the fact that something in a strip mall is actually pretty decent
The food here is awesome. They also have specials on their busy nights that are good. It's also a pub where I can drink something besides beer and nit get funny looks. I love that they have a rewards program too. They have a great set up to watch sports too. I think I have my new favorite hang out.
Review Source:I visited the Fox and Hound last night for drinks with friends after a dinner elsewhere. Honestly, had they not recommended it, I wouldn't even have been aware of the existence of this place, and that would have been a shame, because I really kind of dug it. Tucked away in a strip mall (yeah, not usually my thing either but get over it) amongst other strip-mally little shops, it's a pretty decent sports bar with just enough pub in it keep those of us who don't do the sports thing from feeling out of place. It has pool-tables, dart boards, and...I think there were other game-related activities there of the typical sports bar variety, but I was too focused on my drink(s) and company to make note. The pool tables are in a separate room (it's really a pretty spacious place) which I liked. It means that should I ever return to try my hand at billiards I won't have to make an ass of myself in front of the entire bar.
I realize that I'm a Napervillian myself, but I tire easily of the douchbaggery of the downtown area, particularly on weekends, so this was an excellent alternative. They have nightly drink specials, with Tuesday nights apparently the big deal (some kind of beer special...ick...but they also have a vodka night...yum), and our waitress was exceptionally sweet, attentive, and helpful. I became slightly resentful watching my carnivorous, gluten-tolerant friends ravaging a plate of wings (which they said were more spicy than they expected...spice-intolerant wing lovers take note) and some kind of cookie dessert (which they said was delicious) and our waitress gracefully accommodated my subsequent gluten-free vegetarian request for pickles, celery sticks, and BBQ sauce to munch on.
Stop judging me.
Bottom line: decent drink specials, fairly normal crowd, music that doesn't make you want to claw your eyes out, and great service. Definitely not bad for a casual night with friends. I'll check it out again, and hope that I get a repeat of this first experience.
I don't know what happened to this place in the last couple of years. I have been here many times with friends before and had a great time, but this past night we came after dinner to drab some drinks and it was just not the same thing. They don't have deer hunt any more as one of the games...how do you get rid of that?!?!?!? The dart game used to be for free and now it does not seem to be the case any more. The waitress did not even seem to know the prices of darts, ping pong or pool...does she work here even??? hello!!!!
This place seems more like a sports bar now than a pub. Drink specials are meh...nothing big. It should have been busier on a Friday night than it was.
I probably won't return or if I do it might be a very long time again.
BLACK FOREST SANDWICH. Â It's a BLT plus turkey and melted monterey jack surrounded in soft pretzel goodness. Â That pretty much gives this place three stars, right off the bat. Â I've been introduced to pretzel buns and there's no going back! Â I've heard that they're sold at Trader Joe's. Â I have yet to go investigate.
Don't be misled - this place isn't really English or pub-like. Â It's a sports bar/restaurant chain that's located in a shopping center. Â It was pretty packed on a Saturday night with a couple of birthday gatherings happening in the game room next door to the main dining area. Â There are plenty of flat screens to keep yourself entertained if the conversation runs dry.
The service was quite lacking. Â It was just really slow, all the way to the end. Â I'd recommend the place if you and your group just want to be left alone. Â I might go out of my way to return for the sandwich, but only because making bacon at home is so messy.
The fox and the hound is a nice little casual bar and grill in aurora, right on the border of Naperville. Â The $2 draft special on tuesday is great and they have great cheese fries. The food is a bit on the pricey side for bar food but the quality is very good. There burger is decent but not worth driving out of your way for it. Â There drinks are mixed well though and at least aren't watered down. The wait staff is always friendly and very laid back. I also enjoy going here because I'm never rushed and can kick back with my friends after dinner.
Review Source:I don't know how this place stays open. It is always empty. Granted I don't usually go very late, however, I was there for monday night football and at 7 pm there were MAYBE 10 people in the place.
Good place for wings, just be warned, they are pretty hot. Recently I had the Black Bottom Sandwich. It was very blah. It came with a honey mustard sauce smeared on the bun that really didn't add anything to the sandwich. It could have been better with a spicy peppercorn ranch or something of that nature.
Overall, the place is okay if you want a tame place to watch sports are grab a quick bite to eat. They always have some sore of decent drink special going on and service is usually good.
Positives & Negatives:
Positives:
1. There is a deal just about every day form $3 this's to $2 that's! ( I know you love the horrible spelling.)
2. Last time i went there was an impromptu bags tournament because the radio set up a table in the restaurant.
3. Bring 10+ friends with a PARTY PASS you can set up a party with free food. Ask the waiter about it.
4. There was a free buffet... Brats... MMM! (Just that day)
5. There is a beer club, where you earn points just and get free stuff.
6. I think I just became a regular
7. Tuesday?!?! Is a busy night... $2 pints..
8. Being entertained by other intoxicated patrons
Negative:
1. You have to work in the morning, and sometimes you forget you need to leave.
2. The place can be a little slow if there are no big games on... minus Tuesday
All together this place is nice. It is the perfect mix of being at a restaurant, but with a club/bar feel. At about 10 they start playing music in the entire restaurant. Its a bit different, but fun.
I would say if you go with a friend you will usually never have a bad time. I think I could go by myself and enjoy a hour there. I'm glad its not close to the house because it would be my dive bar. Food is awesome as well... I should have listed that!
Check it out... Especially Tuesdays and Bears Games. You are sure to get a laugh out of some people there.
We used to go to this fox and hound almost every Friday night and we always got great service and the prices were reasonable and the food was great.  It's probably been about  a year since we came here regularly.  We had a group that went yesterday afternoon to watch football and it was not a good experience.  The place looks run down and in need of a complete remodel.  Half the chairs are missing rungs, the tables are wobbly, the floor is really beat up and the bathrooms are disgusting.  The service wasn't much better, our waitress added an extra meal onto our tab and overcharged us (by a lot) for the beer.  She fixed the bill, but we shouldn't have had to ask.  The food prices have gone up so much that it's really not a worth it to get food here anymore.  It will be a long time before we go back again.
Review Source:I used to come here a lot with some friends that live down in Naperville. Â They actually had electronic dart boards, unlike it's Schaumburg and Arlington Heights sister bars. Â Unfortunately they swapped out some dart boards for some virtual horse-racing game. Â C'mon now, darts are timeless, as much as I suck at them.
Review Source:This place is a good place to come fore lunch. Â The Black forest sandwich is pretty good. Â It has turkey & bacon on a pretzel bun which is fantastic. Â Also, during lunch you get to play all the games for free; pool tables, shuffle board, & darts. Â Another great thing is that they have about 20 or so beers on tap ( a huge plus in my book). Â If you come at night, this place gets pretty busy and you get a mixed crowd. Â However, apparently you shouldn't come here if you are a Cubs fan. Â My buddy and I just got back from a Cubs game and decided to grab a couple brewskys at Fox & the Hound and at the door, the bouncers basically said how they don't like Cubs fans and how we shouldn't come in. Â If would be alright if they were joking but they weren't, that's just bad business. Â The wait staff is nice, the waitress that took care of was very sweet. Â I was going to give the place 4 stars but knocked it down to 2 b/c I don't think anyone should be hassled at the door for something so trivial. Â Personally, I will consider whether or not I want to come back because I know of other places that are Cub fan lovers!
