Pancakes for lunch on a weekday sounded like such a great idea at the time. Â I don't know why I continue to think that my afternoons won't be affected by carb heavy lunches. Â Anyway, Pomegranate is a pretty nice and clean restaurant offering diner-type food. Â I really only focused on the breakfast food, so I can't say much about their lunch and dinner items. Â Their burger section did catch my eye though (as it always does). Â They do offer a pretty extensive menu as far as breakfast goes. Â Lots of pancakes, skillets, omelettes, French toasts, and even a selection of crepes to choose from. Â The strawberry pancakes that I ordered were very good, and the short stack (3) was more than enough to put me into a food coma. Â All in all, a good experience at Pomegranate.
Review Source:Just a tad classier than the usual diner, Pomegranate Restaurant delivered for me on at least the breakfast side of the menu.
Setting the scene-
With multiple doors at the entrance (one leading to the classy bar/cashier and another opening to the display case of desserts, eventually leading to the dining room) and no clear hostess stand, it was a little confusing as a first-time visitor looking for a table. However, once seated I was comfortable in their roomy booths and appreciated all the light from their huge windows.
Interesting tidbits about the table setting: 1) The laminated place mats that advertised a discount at a dentist if mentioned dining at the restaurant made it feel cheesy. 2) Magnetized fork and knife intrigued my science teacher friend who accompanied me.
Breakfast with my usual bene-
I like to order eggs Benedict at brunch because I love poached eggs and hollandaise is my guilty pleasure, but I wanted a little nutritional value so I went with the House Specialty of Adriana's Boat in order to get my veggies.
Pomegranate made their eggs just right so that the whites were formed but the insides were still a bit yolky. Also, the hollandaise was balanced with the rich butter and just a slight tang from the lemon. The mushrooms were meaty and the spinach and asparagus were fresh, bright green.
I appreciated the option of ordering fruit instead of hash browns to further my healthy attempt. However, it would have been even better if there was an option for whole-wheat English muffins too.
In addition, I tried my friend's scrambled eggs after she raved about them - We liked the buttery taste and flaky texture.
Satisfactory service-
It was consistent throughout, and I appreciated certain, simple gestures that don't always happen at a diner: The manager asking how the food was and the cashier pardoning himself to interrupt the conversation between my friend and I when we were paying, along with checking my ID when seeing the message on my credit card's "signature line."
Planning a return to Pomegranate-
I would like to come back again for brunch because of all the menu options.
