We stopped in here a couple of months back while visiting Florida and it was a great dinner spot. We ate outside which was a bit messy, mostly from the wind blowing table clothes and such around I assume, but overall the outside was ok. The service was attentive but at times awkward and clumsy, the food was all great but the place is moderately expensive. We actually went with a Living Social deal which made things more reasonable but full price would have been about $40/person with the tip.
I'm a foodie from Virginia where we take dining out very seriously (as in, your doors will close for good if the food is subpar). My favorite is the teriyaki steak (very succulent) with vegetables and the JB Tempura Roll. This is my favorite place to dine in Broward or Palm Beach County. The food is delicious and the service is always great.
Review Source:I have been to this location before, but only had the fried rice in the past. Last night we had the Galanga Pad Thai and the Number 10. The pad thai had a very odd taste and the Number 10 did not serve much variety on the shashimi. The service was amazing, but I was not very impressed with the food.
Review Source:3 1/2 stars.
Reservations for 4 and we were promptly seated at 7 15. Advised that we had a living Social coupon and and there were no issues.
This is a beautiful place. The aquarium behind the sushi bar is awesome.Really nice ambiance.
Our server was pleasant and efficient. Went with a $12 cold sake at server's suggestion. Told him I like it very dry. Right on.. Well worth it.
We had the Crispy Grouper, Crispy Duck, Red Curry and Hawaian Roll. The only disappointment was the duck. Not enough meat and dry. Real hit was the Grouper.
Soup or salad served with the Thai entrees.
Will return.
Seriously mediocre. Beef salad on bed of lettuce was unseasoned yet properly cooked tender beef on a bed of undressed chopped iceberg. Â Shame on you!
Service very lame and without personality. And why on earth is there sushi???? Â Do Thai and do THAT well first before adding to the menu.
Is there some law in Florida that requires all Thai restaurants to serve sushi? Â I can't take any Thai restaurant seriously that serves sushi, and every Thai restaurant down here serves sushi. Â That being said, I wouldn't mind this place so much if it weren't so expensive - this is definitely not a two $$ restaurant. Â For the same price I could eat a meal at a Chinois on Main, which has infinitely better food. Â Overall, I find that all restaurants in Wilton Manors are crappy and expensive, so yes, I'm a snotty foody from a good food town. Â If you have lower expectations and like paying for overpriced average food, then this is the place for you.
Review Source:Will they EVER get it right? Â We decided to give it one more shot and went for the 2 for 1 lunch special. The A/C felt like it was on 80 and the odor was overwhelming. Â We asked them to lower it which they actally did for about 20 minutes only to take it back up to 80 again. The food was just ok nothing to go back for and when the check we were charged for all 4. Â When we asked about the 2 for 1 special, the response was "Oh you didn't say you were having the 2 for 1". Â REALLY? We ended up pay $100 for 4 for lunch. Â Could have gone to Tee Jay's for dinner. Â Underwhelmed to say the least.
Review Source:I don't know what all the hype is about this place. I'd been wanting to try this restaurant out for years, but never got around to it due to all the mixed reviews I'd heard. There was a Groupon special going on, so we decided to take advantage of it. They do offer complimentary valet, though there is parking right on the street lol. The ambiance of the dining room is very lo-fi, downtempo, comfy, chic-romantic, however the bench seating (along the wall) is not so cozy. What also didn't fit the restaurant's aesthetic mood was their menu. I mean the menu itself! You open it up and there are a dozen plastic sleeves inside that reeks plastic as soon as it's opened. Kinda weird- anyway, time for a drink! There is no separate wine list/menu for you to view, but they do have a jumbled selection inside the main menu for you to chose from (note: there is no logical order to the wine list~ gotta squint your eyes). The waiter wasn't helpful at all when he recognized we were having a tough time deciding what to order. He never offered suggestions, nor did he ask us any questions... he was very non-personable, actually.
The Money Bags appetizer was flavorless. My boyfriend thought the tuna-jalepeno-avacado sushi roll was ok.. nothing to rave about. He said the fish was not fresh as fresh as it could be... it was grayish? I ordered beef teriyaki (I know, I am "so adventurous"). It was gross. There was some slimy consistency to the meat that really turned my stomach. I was starving, so I just asked for the chicken teriyaki. That was dry, even with the sauce on the side.
Overall- I won't go back til they ramp up the quality of the food and service. C'mon how long do I have to wait to ASK FOR a refill of water? Really. I know this place was a fantastic hot-spot restaurant back in the day. I'ld love to experience it at that standard.
NOTE: THE MENU ONLINE IS NOT THE CURRENT MENU!!!
This is a place you take someone you want to impress, or if you want to be seen. It's right on the drive, has a casual but trendy atmosphere, and is a bit too pricey for me to make it a regular stop. Still, some outstandingly fresh and delicious food and a great waitstaff.
Came in on a Wednesday night before the peak hours on the drive, so service was outstanding. The meal was paced perfectly, drinks kept filled, and the waiter didn't give us the "groupon snub" that can happen when they know you have a discount.
We ordered the appetizer sampler which came out with everything wonderfully cooked. We subbed out the money bags for crab rangoon and they were fantastic, you could actually taste crab!
The sashimi I had (wahoo and salmon) were extremely fresh and delicious, although a bit pricey at $2.50 for one slice. The miso soup was good quality, standard, and fresh.
For my entree I had the lobster pad thai, which for $26 isn't a bad deal considering it was two WHOLE lobster tails that were cooked perfectly and in a very nice presentation. I asked for it spicy and all I think they did was dash on some extra chili flakes, but the overall flavor was so good I didn't need the extra heat.
So 2 entrees, appetizer, 3 pieces of sashimi, a roll and an iced tea came out to $90. A little steep, but as a once in a while treat, yeah, you get my vote.
I have had their Pad Thai, fried rice and satay appetizer and loved all 3! Â I like my food really spicy so I always order it Thai hot and it comes with fresh chills. Â The place impressed me so much that we used them to cater my sister's bridal shower and everything was delicious! Â Definitely will recommend this place to anyone wanting authentic Thai food. Â
I haven't tried the sushi yet but a little birdie told me it's as fresh as it gets and the owner has the fish delivered 3 times a week, keeping the specials to a minimum in order to serve the freshest fish possible. Â I will definitely update once I give it a try.
Went here last night, expecting the place to be packed. I guess it used to be more popular before. I have heard great things about this place. We ordered a ton of rolls and an appetizer. I thought it good.
We ordered The Summer appy, it was pretty good. I really enjoyed this. Then we ordered the Billionaire Lobster Roll (was pretty good), a Volcano roll with conch dynamite, the South Beach Roll, the Elton John, and the Butterfly roll. Some of them were good, I felt a couple were a tiny bit fishy.
Overall, it was descent, but it was also a little expensive. I expected it to be better than it was. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good.
We decided to enjoy this Wilton Manors establishment after a visit to another vendor nearby, and because of a Groupon I had. Â We got there rather early on Pride Saturday and were seated at a table in the front window. Â But then, our worst nightmare happened when 4 loud, young females were seated next to us. Â Within seconds, they were whooping, talking and laughing so loud I immediately asked to be re-seated on the other side of the restaurant.
Hoping things were going to quiet down, we ordered a wonderful bottle of Napa Valley cabernet savignon and began to settle in. Â We chose an appetizer called the Date Night and liked it very much. Â Like the Denny's 2-2-2, it has 2 chicken satay skewers, one spring roll cut in half, and doubles on two other items. Â Accompanying it is a selection of 4 different and delicious sauces for dipping.
My partner ordered the 3 Friends that had pork, chicken and shrimp and mixed vegetables with peanut sauce and he reported it was very good. Â I had the seafood pad thai and really enjoyed it.
I'm glad we had the Groupon because otherwise the dinner would've been almost $100. Â While we enjoyed it and look forward to visiting it again one day, we will probably have to study the menu more closely to see if we can keep our bill down a but. Â Special appreciation goes to the manager, Adrian, who offered to by us a drink for tolerating the obnoxious customers we moved from. Â Most customers won't take the time to complain and that's why improvement never happens but we're happy he offered the drinks anyway.
This place was so delicious. My fiance and I came here for the first time tonight for our anniversary. We had purchased a Living Social coupon so decided to try it out. This Thai food did not disappoint. The service was great, atmosphere was nice, food was awesome. The miso soup was fresh and tasty. We ordered the Crab Rangoon app and that was pretty good too. My Fiance had the Lobster Pad Thai. Lobster was cooked to perfection. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and that was so scrumptious. yummy. A little pricey, but we would come back again.
Review Source:Last weekend marked my second time at Galanga. Â I remembered having a really good sushi roll there, so my husband and I took our friends to try it again. Â Some things were good and some things were meh. Â First the good: Miso soup and the JB roll, which are always reliable standards. Â Also, the Pad Thai with 2 lobster tails was pretty delicious. Â It may be a new addition to the menu and it gets a thumbs up. Â The lobster was cooked well and you really can't go wrong with Pad Thai. Â Galanga also offers complimentary valet which is always nice.
Now the not so good: be sure to bring a jacket with you because they were cranking the A/C. Â Do not order the Moonstone Plum Wine - it was so overly sweet that I couldn't finish it. Â And I like sweet drinks AND plum wine! Â Also, I was not enthused with the Volcano Roll. Â I don't know what was in the sauce on top, but it tasted like a heap of sweet mayo and was too much.
All in all, dinner was fine, but I'm not clamoring to go back. Â Next time I'm in Wilton Manors, I'll be trying Le Patio instead.
I have eaten here at least a dozen time over the past couple of years and it is always delicious regardless of what I order. Service level has alweays been high and I think the prices are good as the portions are large and the food quality very high as well. The only possible thing I could add would be to add more liqour to the menu as their cocktail options are limited and the martinis only consist of sake and not vodka or gin. Otherwise the place is alwasy very clean and I like the atmosphere both inside and outside.
Review Source:[Visit of 2-22-12 from 2 to 3 pm] A steady local favorite. I've been coming here for 10 years. We enjoyed their 2-4-1 lunch menu today. Pad Thai and Shrimp in Ginger were extremely flavorful. The crispy Calamari in sweet chili sauce is legendary. The Masaman Curry, the Green Curry, and Panang, are always amazing. Only advice would be to make sure the Sriracha sauce offered was the real thing. Today they served a cheaper version (perhaps Badia brand?). Excellent as always.
Review Source:Mmmmazing...
Date night was made even more perfect by the delectable dishes we enjoyed. From the tasty ginger dressing on the salad, to the salmon and scallops, couldn't have asked for a better meal. The decor sets a very zen, calm atmosphere that's enhanced by the giant saltwater aquarium. My only complaint is that the tables are a little large, seating you and your date a bit far away from each other. I will return for another delish meal soon!
Back in the day (maybe 5 years ago or so) Galangal was the hot spot on the drive. The had great food, great lots of things. Today, Wilton Drivw has lots of restaurant options, not to mention Thai/Sushi spots. Well, We went to Galanga last night, and let me tell you, I would hit many of the others, and skip this place.
We got there at around 6:30 and the place was empty. We chose to sit out on the patio. The patio is set up nice, but we noticed that the tables were actually 'card tables'. Tacky, but we sat out there anyway ( the table cloths couldn't fool us). Â
I'm just going to say that while our server was friendly, he was horrible. We hardly saw him and other people brought our food and cleared or plates. We even had to ask for a napkin and silverware. He was slow and never checked on us when our food was dropped off. Â This place always had that problem, but you overlooked it because everything else made up.
The food was good, but very overpriced. We each got a small bowl of soup, I got chicken in ginger sauce and he got Pad Thai Chicken. Soup was hot and good. Pad Thai was a large potion (of mostly noodles) and did come out extra spicy as ordered. My Chicken with ginger was a nice light version and tasted good, but the portion was very small. Not worth the $15 they charge. It looked more like a lunch portion. Yes, I know that many Thai places are not cheap, and their portions don't come close to Chineese Take Out, but when the service is so bad, and you are eating at a card  table...it equals a rip off. Not to mention...iced tea is $3 and soda is $2.50.
The silverware is old too. I swear it's the same silver as when they opened. My plate even had a huge chip on it.
Lack of attention to detail will be the fall of this pace along with the corner cutting and bad service.
Head down to Tee Jay Sushi/Thai next to Georgie's or Sozo Sushi. Gaysha Sushi also serves some great sushi at Wilton and NE 6th.
Not even the cute menu item names will help Galanga. It's sad.
In my update of November I mentioned how badly the food at Galanga had been slipping. Today, contained within their ad in Mark magazine, it says: "Under New Ownership."
It was once a very good place, but the good of the place seems to have vanished. Hopefully the new owner can find it and revive it to the quality and appeal it once had.
I am sooo happy to report that Galanga (Wilton Manors, FL) is back to its old self! This Thai/Japanese restaurant was always a favorite of mine, but a few months back, I noticed a change and we took Galanga out of our rotation. I was recently advised by my gal pal, and fellow sushi connoisseur, that improvements were made. I trusted Gina and wanted to believe that there was a revolution- and she was right. What created the turnaround? A new owner! And before I go on to tell you all about the dining experience, let me mention that Nita, a little Asian woman filled with a big personality, is everything a restaurateur should be. She plays a very active role IN her restaurant, from answering the phone to visiting with the guests to give that extra touch of customer service (she even did a sake bomb with us)!
The cuisine itself would be enough to keep me going there, however the ambiance is what really "had me at hello." The sushi bar is set in front of a magnificent fish tank, the lighting sets a Zen like mood, and the Asian-inspired furniture and art decorate the room tastefully and comfortably. The atmosphere works great for a romantic date, a group looking to socialize, and everything in between. I also recommend Galanga as an excellent choice to bring out of town guests.
Another reason this place is near and dear to my heart is because of the variety. I love when a menu requires me to flip multiple pages! Even with all the options, we are always sure to order "The Summer" appetizer, which is a unique and delicious spin on the traditional raw ahi tuna appetizer. The rock shrimp and calamari are also great and ideal options for sharing with a group. If I went through each item that I recommend, I'd pretty much be listing the menu! I can't stop at the appetizers though so I will let you know that the "Lobster Bomb" roll takes lobster and sushi to a whole new level.
Galanga is quick to accommodate any modifications, such as the one I created and must insist you try (even our server was anxious to give this one a whirl). The Chronic Roll, who's exact ingredients I don't recall, but I can tell you that the "tempura jalapeno" component caught my eye and triggered a call to the bull pen for cream cheese and removal of the asparagus. This roll is so good I think they should name the new one after me! Our feeding wasn't over and I spoke for our party of six demanding dessert. This is what happens when I get to my happy place and you add a little sake bomb action! The table was split on the better of the two, but that just goes to show that the fried cheesecake and chocolate brownie/cake concoction are both noble indulgences.
Nita and her staff were able to bring Galanga back to life and I personally couldn't be happier about it. The restaurant was thriving with well fed customers and it is such a great site to see compared to our last couple visits where many tables sat empty. I am excited to go back, especially when the weather cools down (say maybe under 87 degrees) so we can enjoy the great food, ambiance, and beautiful outdoor patio! Â I would like to point out that although this should be a mute point, Galanga is in Wilton Manors, gay-friendly area, and all guests should respect this, as many diners and employees of the restaurant are homosexual.
Last remarks: Prices are moderate and worth every penny, reservations can be made by phone (Galanga is no longer affiliated with Open table) and parking is limited to complimentary valet parking.
We went here for a Birthday Party a few weeks back, and little did we know that this place closes at 9pm! WHO closes that early these days? And it wasnt even a sunday!
The server was patient, yet annoyed, but he dealt with us. (thank you server!)
This place is pretty cute inside, and the food is pretty kickin' too. Ill be back for sho', but I guess we'll just have to make sure to get there early with the old folks. ;)
Great food!
I love dates here! the atmosphere is perfect for it and the service is always amazing!
Love LOve LOVE their sushi! its amazing and so is their wine list. Everything always pairs so well together.
last time I was here I had the Fried tempura banana dessert. You'll regret it if you don't try it! so yummy!
I don't get it. I seriously don't get the draw at Galanga. Hubby and I tried them for lunch this week. We thought the two-for-one lunch deal was a great way to address our midweek sushi craving.
I've been to Galanga on many occassions with friends who rave about the place. I have never been impressed. My feelings are based primarily around pricing and service. I have NEVER had a meal at Galanga in under 90 minutes and Thursday was no exception. Two people for lunch = 90 minutes. Unacceptable, ladies.
Our waiter was very sweet and pretty. But could not seem to manage our table of 2. Getting a drink took a day. Taking our order took a week. And being served our meal was a year and half. And don't even get me started on how it long it takes to pay the bill. At one point I had to refrain from taking it up to the hostess myself.
The food is mediocre. I can get better sushi and incredible service at any number of Thai Sushi joints nearby. Why do I need to subject myself to Galanga? Well I'll tell you what. I don't.
Ahh, Galanga, this small gem whose building seems to have been an IHOP at one time, stands up to the test. Â We went to dinner there last night and from the moment the uber charming Italian valet staff parked my Prius to the moment we paid the much deserved high dinner bill, Â we had a truly dining experience. Â
Veuve Clicquot champagne + hot and salty edamame + delightfully sweet and crispy calamari + brown rice volcano rolls + perfectly steamed sea bass + a delightfully cute and charming waiter + lilac colored and dimly lit tropical ambiance = GALANGA
It is truly the perfect equation.
Sushi and Thai fans can all find something great to enjoy here, and yes, it even has good "non-scary" dishes for those friends of ours who can't stand to try anything new... did I say those were my friends? Â Sorry - those acquaintances that somehow get lucky enough to dine with me. Â
PS - I wouldn't take an unworthy acquaintance here - only close friends allowed. Â Galanga is too nice a place to spoil with bad company.
Galanga Thai Kitchen and Sushi is a great place to bring your boyfriends and girlfriends to check out some eye-candy and have some good food. I'll go ahead a give a big WOW to the wait staff and the clientele. The place is trendy and hip, with an Eastern inspiration. Love the fish tanks!
Galanga is a hot spot in Wilton Manors and super busy on a Friday night - be sure to make a reservation. Paul, our server, was very attentive and professional. When I go to a Thai restaurant for the first time, I always order my favorite staples: Tom Kha soup and Pad Thai - both of which were excellent. I ate my leftovers within hours of dinner! The thai iced tea was a little sweet, but the rest of the drink menu seemed great.
Overall, I had a great experience at Galanga and would definitely go back. It is a little pricier than other Thai restaurants, but it's a fun place to go for food and people watching.
Galanga is fierce...
So, I have been to Galanga a million times and have not yet written a review. Shame on me.
Every time I go into Galanga, I order either the Pad Thai or the LOBSTER BOMB. They are both divine.
Galanga is great for lunch or dinner. In November, they had 2 for 1 lunches. Imagine a wondeful big dish of Pad Thai served by a hot waiter for only 6 bucks!
They have a bithday/champagne membership list. So, if you are on their e-mail list, you can receive a good free bottle of champagne for your birthday. (Bet you didn't know that)
The staff is very friendly. The owner (Edie) knows everyone by name.
I have never had a bad meal.
Well to do gays go there Friday or Saturday nights and sit at big tables. One should probably RSVP if they want to eat inside.
Drinks can be a bit pricey. A martini is like 12 bucks... kind of expensive for Fort Lauderdale.
Overpriced, mediocre Thai food served in an uncomfortable atmosphere. Their spices are shy and both times I've eaten there, the vegetables were grossly overcooked. Nothing tasted fresh. The service was a little too cool and disinterested for my taste and the over-sized furniture made the dining room feel too crowded.
I would never recommend a restaurant by how cute the waitstaff is, but it's the only thing Galanga has going for it.
First of all, Jonathan: you were great. Thanks for being so friendly when all other staff were leaving and I'm sure you hated us arriving at 930pm when the place closed at 1030pm!
Framing: On vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, we saught out a nice restaurant where we could get dressed up but did not have to, had good food, and had a diverse clientele. We ended up waiting too late to go for dinner so were the last guests to arrive. Final bill, including nice bottle of wine, appetizer for two, entrees, desert and water was $125. We tipped Jonathan about 28% so total was $160.
Food: Two days later, Â I'm still thinking about the Delightful Duck entree. It was absolutely fantastic, flavorful, tender, and perfectly accompanied by rice and veggies. My better half had the Unbelievable Seabass (these were the actual names of the entrees, not hyperbolic adjectives) and I am pretty sure we had never had fish that was so flaky, moist and flavorful. Awesome! The appetizers were equally good, though nothing was healthy so try to walk to the restaurant if you can! Â Desert was the White Russian which is apparently a signature dish for Galanga and was awesome. The staff even scrolled "enjoy your vacation" in the caramel sauce ... nice touch.
I did not try the sushi, so cannot attest to that side of the restaurant. But the Thai food was good enough to merit my high rating and I would not go to a hybrid restaurant for sushi (I also do not buy those DVD/TV or Coffee maker/Expresso combos ...)
Decor: Nice but not overkill. Did not feel like I was in a buddhist shrine but felt the Thai connection. The fish tank is interesting but not all that big. Some of the rveiews made me think it was a mini Georgia Aquarium. Â I would have enjoyed seeing the sushi chef work his magic but unfortunately we came late so the only magic he created was cleaning out the sushi counter.
Service: Awesome service. Everyone was friendly, despite our late arrival. Food came fast and wine/water glasses were always full. Â Server Jonathan was just a cool guy. And, for ladies and G/B/Q men, the eye candy was aplenty. I suspect, though perhaps I should not make such assumptions, the ladies would only be able to look ....
Overall: Great food, great service and darn good decor merit a 4 star versus my Chicago standards, but compared to every other restaurant I tried in Ft. Lauderdale area, this place is far above the fray, thus my 5 star rating.
Nice ambience, decent service, free valet parking, but really mediocre food is what Galanga is about....
I ordered the California Dream, which is the mystery sushi roll not in the menu - supposedly it's a special. The sushi came and it was not memorable. The japanese pickled plums were a nice touch - but they were too vinegary and offish. Hardly edible. And since it was off-menu, the price came as a surprise - $18 for a mediocre sushi roll that didn't even fill me up.
I tried my friend's flat rice thai dish (I did not ask for the name) and it tasted better. It did not wow me, but from tasting that, I can assume Thai here tastes better than Sushi.
If you want Japanese in Broward, I'd probably suggest going to Marumi Sushi in Plantation.
One thing is clear though: This is by no way one of the best restaurant in Broward.
Gonna keep this REALLY simple.
Ambience - amazing...chiled laid-back atmosphere....music and conversation is not over-powering... Â Sit outside and take in the night air...
Servers - Very nice, pleasant...attentive but not over-hovering. (nice to look at, just say'n)
Wine/Sake menu - delish. Â Split of Cold, unfiltered Sake - $16.00 - MORE THAN ENOUGH for 2 people (unless you're lushes! Â lol) Â Nice wine menu, sake, Saketinis, etc.... Beers... Â you get it.
Food - Very nice menu.. I have always loved the food every time I've been. Â Always fresh..presented nicely... Â
The ceviche, with fresh cilantro and jalepeno...yummy and amazing.
Had Salmon and Tuna sashimi that was like buttah.
Had the Hawaii roll which was delicious and such a nice mix of flavors..
and asked for a suggestion of what else would be good - and was told about a roll not even on the menu, called THE MAGNIFICENT. Â and it was just that. Â Spicy Tuna....a kimchee sauce... hamachi.... just a brilliant blend of flavors that was ever-changing....
The experience was beautiful and really - if you are looking for a nice dinner experience  with good sushi and/or Thai....this is the place in Ft Lauderdale!
Drink, ambience, LOTS of food, and tip - $100
Our first choice was Rozie's next door to Galanga... but the place was overcrowded, loud with too many people screaming because the music was just overbearing... the final straw was that we were told that we had to wait almost 2 hours for a table... no thanks! Â So we just walked one block over.
And what a big difference! Â Quiet with soft music playing in the background, nice ambiance, plenty of tables and got one right away outside. Â We immediately knew that we would enjoy this place very much.
The menu was so extensive that it took us a while to get through it. Â But once the food started arriving it was one amazing dish after another. Â We started with two chicken Tom Kha soups which were hot and delicious. Â
Then we got our main courses. There is a "House Original" option were you get to choose your main ingredient and the sauce. Â The dish comes with steamed white rice. Â I ordered the chicken with the chili sauce and my friend ordered the chicken with peanut sauce. Â I also ordered a side of pork fried rice to share...
As the kids say now-a-days: "OMG!" Â It was heaven the food was superb and enjoyed every bite. Â In fact, the fried rice was unnecessary as the food comes in a great portion with plenty of steamed rice to go along. Â I did take the fried rice with me to eat later... yum yum!!!
Service-wise, it was a little lacking were we only saw our waiter 3 times: (1) to take meal/drink order, (2) to check on us after the meal was delivered and (3) to drop off the check... Â the busboys should be getting the tip as they did all the work! Â The server just paraded himself with his shirt opened all the way and trying to act too hot... but not that friendly.
Ambiance of the location is great with amazing decor. Â Bathrooms super clean and will be a place I will come back to when in town and area.
The Final Verdict:
Restaurant Ambiance/Decor: Â 5.0 out of 5.0
Staff Service/friendliness : Â 3.0 out of 5.0
Seating Arrangement/Layout: Â 5.0 out of 5.0
Seating Comfort: Â 5.0 out of 5.0
Food Quality/Flavor: Â 5.0 out of 5.0
Price Value: Â 4.0 out of 5.0
Bathrooms Cleanliness: Â 5.0 out of 5.0
Final Score:  32 out of 35  (91 out of 100% or  A- grade)
Final Comment: Â Don't regret skipping loud and crowded Rozie's (the "IN" place in town) for the more quiet, enjoyable and delicious Galanga. Â A great place to truly enjoy the company of those you are seated with and enjoy a nice conversation without having to scream to talk. Â Food is superior to most places and will recommend this place over and over!
I must have been blazed when I went to Galanga... considering the whole dinner is blur and that was only a week ago. This said, I remember it being great, if a bit pricey.
The food is Thai, though probably not authentic Thai. The restaurant is quite nice, and conveniently located next to the gay bars (more on that later...). My boyfriend and I shared a few things:
- Appetizer sampler, which is pretty big and includes all kinds of dumplings and other bite-sized "things". I wish I could be more explicit, but remember... I was blazed.
- The tuna: that was my boyfriend's idea (I wanted the crispy duck), but I didn't resist too hard since I usually love tuna. This one was a bit too much for me... a giant slab of tuna cooked rare, with ponzu sauce. I wasn't a huge fan. Not sure if it was the tuna that wasn't the best or if it was lacking a better sauce, but I could only have a few bites. Then again, it might just have been because I was blazed.
- Some ridiculous chocolate cake for dessert, which was for two persons and was completely decadent... just amazing, which again isn't too surprising considering I was ahem blazed.
Good overall, even though I was a bit disappointed by the tuna. Great service (and VERY hot waitstaff). I'd definitely go again.
Why can't the rest of south Florida restaurants get this right? Â The food and atmosphere must both be good. Â Food preparation, presentation, knowledgeable and good looking staff members make the experience. Galanga got it right. Â While south beach restaurants appear to be glitzy, they're often superficial. Â I used to take my out of town friends up to Galanga while I lived in Miami because I knew the food here had substance and the atmosphere fit with the food.
I really enjoy their appetizers, especially the steamed dumplings and sunomono. Â I like their sea bass and hawaii rolls. Â The lychee saketini's are good, but I also enjoy the unfiltered sake as well.
Go for the food and the atmosphere. Â Casual, nice, good looking and tasty. Â Can't get any better than that.
Our concierge recommended this place when we were here on holiday almost a year ago, and we tracked it down because yes! the memory of their curries was THAT good.
And we weren't disappointed when we went back this time as locals.
An awesome thai restaurant that offers some fresh standard sushi for non-thai lovers.
But their thai curries are really excellent, and the service (even on a saturday night and booked with a few large parties) was top-notch.
FYI - they have complimentary valet
In short - other Thai restaurants offer better food, bigger portions and less attitude.

Galanga, Â in the heart of Wilton Manors, was one of Greater Ft.Lauderdale's more decent Thai restaurants. Â The food was fresh and the menu, though often changing, is wide in variety. Â
Unfortunately, over the last year or two, the quality has gone downhill, the service level declined, and the portions were reduced. Â Galanga used to be packed with patrons. Â This is no longer true.
The restaurant was recently reported to be "under new management" Â but we did not see any difference on a recent visit. Â
One of the main drawbacks to the whole Galanga experience tends to be the front-end desk staff. Â They tend to cringe when you ask that a bill be separated (which should be expected when seating large groups) and the young men behind the front desk can be less than helpful.
I'm always perplexed by front end restaurant clerks in ANY venue who have an undue, high-brow attitude. Â Just be real, drop the 'tude, be friendly and help me find my seat. Â (The fact that this is a repeated pattern at Galanga and has been an issue with friends and out-of-town guests as well is the only reason this is being mentioned in any detail.) Â Â Â
