Lovely place for Valentine's dinner - relaxing & romantic, super-fresh & tasty! We celebrated the day early because of our work schedules, and had dinner here last night based on Yelp reviews. Â
Do not even look at the restaurant from the street - that view has nothing to do with the quaint and welcoming inside. The front is the kitchen, so if you sit inside, it's like going over to your chef friend's house for dinner. Cool as that is, le patio is even better! Â At night, the outside glows with warmth from candles and decorative lights. Â All the tables were seated, and yet the noise level only reached a gentle, friendly murmur. Â Love that I could actually hear every word my eso was saying!
The rustic and hearty tomato basil soup de jour paired splendidly with the tantalizing aroma wafting from the baked (with just the right amount of crispy-cheesy parts) gratin macaroni - both dishes were fabulous! I'm only saying the following because I'm a mac & cheese maven, honestly, no one else would find fault: had their been a little more sauce and shorter pasta, this dish would have catapulted to the top of my all-time-fave list.
For the mains, we had spinach ravioli and chicken quesadilla. Â Both were expertly prepared and proved healthy and comforting are not mutually exclusive. The quesadilla is open face and the ravioli were a scrumptious vehicle by which to enjoy the 'nicoise' sauce.
I am not a wine connoisseur by any stretch of imagination. Â However, the house chardonnay was exactly as described in the menu, and really did have "layers of honey and butter that lingered". A perfect compliment to my meal.
Le Paio is a wonderful restaurant for a special evening. The extremely reasonable prices make it even better. I'm looking forward to trying more of their menu. Cheers!
