Loved the venue. We came here for dinner not knowing they had cover bands playing that night. It was a nice surprise, 80's flashback kinda thing.  We did have to pay $10 cover charge  even though we were here to eat dinner.
I did not care for the food. I had the Rockin' Chicken Bowl. It was very spicy without warning and I couldn't finish it. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was drenched in a random sweet and sour type glaze, masking whatever natural flavor it had. I even tried my boyfriend's sliders. One had pulled pork... not very good, it was overly salted and seasoned. The food deserves only one star. Our waitress was not engaging at all. She was there to bring drinks and food, no connection.
I gave Gaslamp two extra stars solely for entertainment purposes as this is the only reason why I would come back. BTW, if you plan on using a Groupon here, read the fine print. We wanted to use $39 for $80 worth of food and they wouldn't let us because it had to be for 4 people or more. We had three. I don't think it should matter because our bill was close to $100 anyway. Whatever their reason, I probably wouldn't eat here again.
It was okay. I came here on a Friday night around 10 and paid 5 bucks for the cover. Knyght Ryder was playing and there pretty good, must say. It's all 80s songs and when they take a break and come back they play hip hop songs and requests. There's a dj that's there when the band breaks and after playing top 40. Music is good there but drinks are pricy.
First off the drink is like a water cup size and a Jameson and sprite was 8.50 and other mixed was 9. Literally two sips n I'm done. I don't mind if a drink is like 9 bucks but it has be worth it and not a freaking water cup either. Kitchen closes at 11, didn't know n was hungry but it was already 11:30. In n out is around the corner so I ate there after.
This place is okay, parking is good there's tons of space and the music is on point. The only buzz kill was the drinks. Do if I do come here ill probably pregame somewhere else then come here for some music.
Came here this past Friday night and had a great time. Was a bit skeptical of Knyght Ryder from their name, but they are a fantastic 80's cover band that had the bar rocking and dancing all night long. I don't even really like 80's music, but was impressed (the guitar player is awesome!).
A pint of Widmer ran $6, which is kinda high, but not surprising given the club atmosphere. We had a really nice bartender, there was plenty of places to sit, and the bathrooms were clean and even had an attendant. The patio area was also a nice place to get some fresh air. Free and ample parking were a huge bonus (being from SF, aka the parking hellhole of the world).
$5 cover after 9:30 pm, so get there early. If I lived in the area, I would definitely return. Sad to be missing Warren G. :-(
First off, you kinda do have to go on the right music night, or you may be overwhelmed by the music. Â They have different options, and you can check the schedule on-line. It's whatever floats your boat.
I enjoyed the food very much. Â Their truffled fries were fantastic. Â I don't know what they do to make their fries stay crisp like that, but they were crisp throughout. Â They added a nice amount of truffle oil so that the flavor was infused on every fry. Â That's pretty impressive!
The burger was also delicious. Â The meat had such a rich meaty flavor, like it was aged just right. Â I eat lots of burgers because I love burgers, but the flavor of the meat in this burger stood out. Â We had the filet skewers, and these were also good. Â Panko crusted brie wasn't bad, but I'm not a huge fan of brie, so you have to take my friend's word for it-she said they were fantastic.
I'll probably go back with my husband on Saturday since they show UFC on all their screens.
Arrived on a Thursday Night at 8pm (?) and the room was half empty but there was a local comedian cracking jokes on stage! It took us about 10 minutes to get seated and another 5 minutes to get our drinks ordered. From the start, the server warned us about the limited workers. I Â didn't fuss because I've worked in a restaurant atmosphere and know how frustrating it can be. Although the total wait time to get our food was about 20-30 minutes, my server was a sweetheart and I had a great time!
It was a very fun atmosphere with the comedian and live bands and the food was delicious!
FOOD:
I ordered their steak which was about $22. There was 3 strips of meat with truffle fries and beans. I also ordered their garlic Parmesan fries due to recommendation from yelp reviews but my boyfriend and I didn't taste or see the difference from the truffle and Parmesan. Truffle is also wayyy more pricey than the Parmesan too.
DRINKS:
My bf ordered their sexy sexy sangria which was "too light" according to him but I tasted the rum instantly when I took a sip.
I ordered their raspberry margarita (?) which was delish!! It came in a small glass though. If you're looking to drink more, don't get any margaritas hahha I was REALLLY hoping they served their drinks in a larger glass
Overall great night. Only cons were:
limited service
the band was too loud and I had to scream to talk to my man
So I had a groupon here so we had dinner there on Tuesday night. The tone of the place was set when we walked in. Â We were not able to sit on the patio, first bummer. They were having comedy night there and it appeared they wanted everyone to sit close to the stage to appear that there was an audience.
As for food, we decided to have burgers and for sides we selected brussels sprouts which were on the specials for the day. Â We also had sweet potato fries. Â The burgers were good, the brussels were over cooked and soggy. The sweet potato fries were mushy.
I won't be back again. I would not recommend this place at all.
Ok, I got a living social deal $20 for $40. Â I never been to this place before, so I just gave it a try.
I made a reservation on 8:00 pm on Sat.  I went there like 8:15 pm.  When I went in, I asked the casher girl  I had reservation.  She ignored me for like 7 or 8 mins.  I was  like what was going on???(she was talking to her friends on phone for 7 or 8 mins!!) Â
After she finished, she asked me for my first and last name, and said she couldn't find it. Â
BAD START!!
So I decided to pick a table since there only about 10% customers. Â (Mostly empty)
I ordered diablo burger, it costs $11 for only burger!! Â Then i added a parmesan garlic fries $4.5. Â My family had flat iron steak $20 and trio of sides $11.
The food was fine.
We also ordered some cocktail drinks. Â It's range from $8.5 to $11.
At the time there was a band. Â They played music and sang few songs. Â The environment was good.
Until 9:10 pm, people started to come from no where. (that was like 70% people) Â Most of them stayed in the bar area.
After 9:30 pm, they started to bring out a DJ. ( have all kind of musics mostly hip hop music) Â I believed they close at 1 or 1:30 am.
I would said overall the place was good, besides the annoy casher.
after seeing a voucher for this place all the time on groupon i had to buy it. i really want to eat my way through long beach since i recently moved here. so i bought the groupon voucher $20 for $40.
came here on a saturday at 630 the place was pretty empty. the decor looks like medieval times but much worse. the colors are black and red, there is velvet. dirty carpet. it is ugly inside is what it is. we ordered: mac n' cheese (worst i've had. we ordered this because the hostess recommended it but it just was not good. the boyfriend only liked it because there was bacon in the mix. tasted like the mac n cheese you get from out of a box then kraft american cheese singles was thrown in.), seared ahi salad (tuna did not taste fresh.), boneless beef shortribs (fork tender meat but the mashed potatoes were way too runny and did not stay on the fork.), a glass of the white wine cupcake, gaslamp margarita (very strong), killer kool aid (best thing at gaslamp) and a heineken light. the total was about $82, not including the voucher.
our main server was all over the place. i asked for lemons for my water and she gave it to me on a napkin. she forgot my dressing on the side. we asked for a dessert menu then she never revisited our table. other servers checked in on us, which was nice. however, this place is just not welcoming. overall bad service, less than mediocre food. gaslamp uses opentable but the hostess' know nothing about it.
Went to this place on a Saturday night. It definitely was not that busy for a typical weekend night. The ambiance is cool, but, seems a bit confused on what they are trying to be. Could be so much so cooler hands down with a few more added touches. Drinks: I had the Sangria, which was watered down. However, the next drink I had was a pineapple whipped drink and let me to tell you it made me forget all about the sangria from before, it was deliciousness! Food: I had the Unami burger--it was bland. For so much much stuff they added in the burger, unfortunately, the flavors did not burst and dance in mouth. I did also have the truffle fries and they were decent. Service: was pretty good, besides, the host being on her cell phone.
Overall, I am not opposed to giving it another go as it has an amazing potential to be a cool long beach hot spot.
By far one of my favorite hangout spots on a Friday night. Wish it wasn't so far from home, or I'd come here way more often than a handful of times a year! I only come have some drinks with my friends while we rock out to our favorite 80s cover band Knyght Ryder. The lead singer is so dreamy!
Pretty lame that they started charging cover after 930pm. But it's only $5, so whatevs. Only eaten here once, just your standard bar food. Burgers, fries, nachos. Decent enough. Drinks are decently priced, mind you I generally get a vodka soda, so I don't know if they make fancier drinks than that. Last time I went, there was a girl selling jello shots. The crowd here is a bit older lately, but I guess that's to be expected since it is 80s music. And generally other people my age don't listen to music that was made prior to the rise of Britney Spears.
Overall, great place to hang out. Very casual. Great ambience.
As soon as I walked in I just wanted to love this place. It has a cool, retro "Blue Velvet" vibe to it.
I came early, before the entertainment started. On most nights they have something going on by 7 or 8pm whether it be a band or comedy or karaoke or whatever. I just wanted some food; specifically the PBJ monte cristo I'd heard about.
Once seated I looked at the menu and saw that what I'd come for was listed as "PBJ fresh toast", which is different than a monte cristo. So I was immediately disappointed but went ahead and ordered it. I decided I should also get something non-sweet so ordered a basket of tots and 3 sliders. The waitress was very nice and let me know that the sliders were on the happy hour menu and I could get them cheaper that way. Thank you! I sincerely appreciated that.
The tots were pretty darn good. Piping hot with both cheese dip and ketchup. The sliders were so-so. The meat and buns were not the best quality according to my taste buds. The PBJ french toast was basically a peanut butter and jelly sandwich made with french toast, perched in a lake of syrup & caramel and topped with vanilla ice cream. I enjoyed it but I couldn't help imagining how much better it could be as a deep fried monte cristo. Other reviewers mention it is deep fried (and photos confirm this) so apparently, for some reason, they stopped making it as a monte cristo recently. Too bad because, as it is now, I liked it but it didn't "wow" me enough to make me want to come back again for it. One of those situations where it was good yet still disappointing because it didn't achieve its potential.
Service was mostly attentive and friendly. It seemed like a fun place to come back for the entertainment but the food wouldn't draw me in again.
The BF and I have ended up here twice for two reasons- we had a Groupon and they were playing the UFC fight. We've had the calamari and the Gaslamp burger, both were pretty good! Drinks were also good!. Double thumbs up there! Our waitresses have been pretty attentive even though the place gets super crowded! I imagine it's because of the fight, I'm not sure if they're this crowded every Sat evening.
The only con I found is if you find yourself sitting on the platform part of the restaurant (on the left as you enter Gaslamp), the TV's suck. They're not that big and your direct view isn't great, even if you move your chairs around. On the plus side, they take reservations and can ask to be seated in the main floor where the huge screen TV is. This place is more like a 3 1/2 star joint but since I've had a good time both times, I'm rounding up.
Well, where do I start...?
I went out of my way to join yelp so that I could write this review....
I brought my girlfriend here with a Groupon that I purchased recently and I am surprisingly dissatisfied.
Although our server was very friendly and on top of her game, that was the highlight of our trip to the Gaslamp.
The interior looks as if it was decorated by someone in the midst of a coke binge. The whole place is painted top to bottom with dark red and black paint (aside from the tacky wall paper in the entry way) and lighted with obnoxious red lighting that was blasted on us and our neighboring table.
As for the food.....
My girlfriend got the beef short ribs which were braised and presented well but lacking big time in the seasoning department. I ordered the mushroom Swiss bacon burger with parmesan fries and, not having eaten all day because of work and school, was rather anxiously awaiting my food. When it arrived, the dish looked pretty good so I dug in. The fries were cold, stale and overall bad. The burger (which I ordered medium) was salty, cooked beyond well done, and the bun was burnt. A burger is a very difficult thing to mess up and even the worst of my classmates in culinary school could do better, but I was honestly too tired and hungry to mess around with sending it back.
Being in the food service industry I understand that buns get burnt but its unacceptable to put one out to a guest.
I think it's needless to say that I won't be returning to the Gaslamp.
We ate here this evening with a groupon deal, and what a pleasant surprise! First of all, our service was flawless. Â We were greeted and seated promptly. Â Our waitress, Jessica, started off by telling us about her favorite menu drinks and appetizers (and she was right!). Â She was attentive to us throughout the meal, yet never intrusive. Â
The house merlot was acceptable, the ice tea was obviously fresh brewed, and the beer cold. Â Fresh rosemary/garlic/cheese season lavash bread was brought immediately - and it was delicious!
My husband ordered the (recommended) short ribs - very tender. Â My daughter ordered the (also recommended) Firecracker shrimp; both she and my husband LOVED thespicy/flavorful sauce and the presentation. Â I had the lettuce wraps; they were different from, yet fresher and tastier than, the wraps at PF Changs. Â I liked that they served it with butter lettuce (artistically displayed), rather than the usual iceberg. Â
We finished off with the chocolate layer cake, which was actually half cake and half chocolate mousse, which the husband enjoyed with his merlot. Â
I hadn't been there in years, and it certainly seems that the Gas Lamp has recentlyb brought in a talented chef and made some positive menu, management and environment changes, which will definitely bring us back again! Â
The table in the both where we sat was a little uncomfortable, the table cloth slid to one side and we tried to get in and out. Â But still, its nice to have a table cloth, and cloth napkins! Â Quality of food was very good, dishware was stylish, but the silverware left something to be desired. Â Cheap , thin stuff, like what you'd see in a cafeteria. Â Give me a real fork next time!
Side note: Â This place has a decent happy hour (with reduced drink prices), and in-dining room entertainment almost every night (comedy, music, etc). Â Â Plenty of convenient, free parking.
Went on a Wednesday night for Trivia and Karaoke.
Pros:
Happy hour Fries, Sliders, and cocktails
Manager came over and introduced himself and thanked us for coming out
Trivia was fun
Nice large space
Waitresses were friendly and helpful
Groupon deal $20 for $40
Cons:
New karaoke guy needs the good versions of the songs and needs to work out all the kinks
I didn't eat any food here, so I can't tell you about it. Â I came to see the 80's band, Knight Ryder, and had a blast. Â We got there a little too early, but I guess that's good because we didn't have to pay a cover. Â Their website should have listed the time the band comes on though. Â I believe it was after 9:30pm when they finally came out.
We were served by a few bartenders. Â The guys were friendly and attentive. Â There was a female bartender who had a scowl on her face the whole time, although she was quick and attentive, I wouldn't say she was at all friendly.
The band was so much fun, they played all kinds of 80's songs from pop to rock to rap, and I was amazed at how good it sounded with a live band. Â I will definitely come back! Â Also, the DJ played great songs before the band came on and also during their breaks. Â I didn't see one person in the place that wasn't dancing or having a good time, other than maybe the female bartender!
Came here for Karaoke and Dinner.
Sliders were definitely solid - I'd stay away from the regular flavor as it wasn't much to it compared to the BBQ or the Pork sliders. Fries were great and the bartender kept my drinks flowing.
The Karaoke guy that came had quite a bit of songs, although i'm sure most of their most recent songs were a few years ago. The regulars love to croon ballads but are friendly and welcoming to singers of all genres and ability.
This place is (probably) great if you come here with a pack of friends, because the ambience is so fitting: dimly lit large room, music blaring, and oh, even an outdoor patio area for smokes...definitely not my preference.
This isn't the place for couples to dine out, which is something my boyfriend and I occasionally do (once a week). On our last visit, I snatched a great Groupon deal to the Gaslamp: $20 for $40. AWESOME DEAL. We were NOT impressed with the food though. I guess the chef is a fan of excess oil and salt(?). The food did not seem to have that charm of quality to it; however, the garlic fries were pretty impressive. I could not stop munching on them!
I really think this place emphasizes more on the drinks. When it came to the drinks - I was not one bit let down. I ordered the blueberry rum and instantly fell in love with it. Don't get me wrong; I am in no way shape or form, an alcoholic. I drink once in a blue moon, but I know when something tastes good!
Overall, this place reminds me of an unclassy, yet overpriced version of BJ's, no thanks.
thos spot has gone thru many changes thru the years....went one sat eve and the jazz band was phenonemal....I love the decor....it's lb loungey not la loungey - which is to say that it's not monied superiority elegantly disguised by various artitice....(whew sometimes I can really express myself, right?) Â anyway it's a nice, chill, warm, sexy spacious lounge spot. Food was good (beef skewers, garlic truffle parmesan fries, service good as well as drinks. Â Would avoid using any coupons though - it seems to make things a lil challenging for one and all.
Review Source:Service was OK.
Restaurant looks nice.
Food was TER-RI-BLE!
I ordered the mac n cheese.
You can't go wrong with mac n cheese, right?
Apparently at Gaslamp, you can!
It was the saltiest thing I have ever eaten.
Saltier than salt! It was really really really bad.
My friend ordered the calamari.
It was not like any other calamari you have ever seen..
not in a good way either!
It seemed like fake calamari served with a whole mess of red cabbage.
It was really strange and not very tasty.
My other friend ordered one of their burgers.
I think it was the pulled pork one (?) and she didn't even eat it.
Why?? Because it was too salty!!!
What is up with the chef and salt?
No No No!
I came here on a Tuesday night for a comedy show. Â Good thing I had a groupon because the food is on the pricier side. $14/burger Â
Also note that the comedy show doesnt start until 8pm (although it said 7:30pm on the website), and it requires 2 drinks MIN per person. Â
Huge parking lot so no need to worry about not finding parking. Â
Diablo burger: it was okay. Â The spiciness didn't go well with this burger. Â
The chicken and brie sandwich: Â was pretty good
Parmasean cheese fries: these fries were my favorite
I had a Groupon for this place, but I wouldn't come back without another one.
My boyfriend, his brother, and I walked in around 7:30 on a Wednesday night and we were the only ones in there.
Everything was just okay. The drinks, service, and food. Nothing notable. Although I did notice an excess of black duct tape everywhere. And that bathroom needs a serious cleaning! Layers of dust all over it!
They need to either step it up, or lower their prices to their happy hour prices all the time. That is all.
I bought a Living Social deal to this restaurant based on reviews I read here on yelp. I am completely at a loss as to how this place has so many stars. Seriously, this was the worse food I've ever ordered in a restaurant. I'll admit, I'd never choose a place like this because I found the decor and vibe to be really tacky. But I wanted to give the food a chance since I'd already bought the deal.
The calamari was breaded in thick batter and smothered in some high fructose corn syrup sweet sauce that made it taste like something off a kid's menu. Seriously it could have been anything under that batter because there was nothing of the calamari flavor. I ate a few forkfuls and left the rest. Next, I ordered the taco trio. Dry as wood and completely flavorless. I ate the fish one (which was battered and deep fried) and left the steak and the chicken. Lastly, I ordered flourless chocolate cake. A regular chocolate cake was brought out. When I said I wanted flourless chocolate cake, the waitress said, they don't have that on the menu any longer. When I showed her that it was on the menu, she said they've stopped offering it. So you just bring customers whatever dessert you do have??? Â I've never left 80% of my food at a restaurant before this.
And just to help the adults who are my age fully understand, this is a sports bar (SIX TVs all around the restaurant!) with tacky red lights, velvet drapes and a really dark, creepy (not moody or romantic) vibe. It felt like a haunted house. There is a stage in the middle of the room that I'm told is for karaoke. Not my scene at all. The only redeeming quality was the employees. Everyone I encountered was kind and attentive.
Too bad the food sucked.
Came here on UFC night which I Â will never again do! When they have UFC fights here, they only offer a limited menu which only offers about 10 entrees.
Gaslamp burger for me was good. Sis had steak and she stated it was good but lacked flavor.
Room was dark but enough light to see your food. Noise level is what you would expect for a fight night. Loud. Waitress, Allison, was attentive though and that's why this place got 4 stars instead of 3.
I've read others reviews and will definitely come back when they have a full menu.
We went to Gaslamp to see the King of Long Beach play for his 80s cover band. It's pretty damn entertaining. You meet all kinds of people. We even saw a funny white girl try and start shit with a Mexican girl and she almost got her ass kicked. Security had to break it up. I was sad. Everyone wants to see a girl fight so that kind of ruined it.
The second time we went it was packed. I called it the We Miss You King of Long Beach crowd. We got several of our coworkers to go and they had a good time. Had a few shots and then stopped because I was driving so yeah, let's not get a DUI today. If you're gonna get hammered, let a friend drive.
Anyways, go on Fridays to see the King of Long Beach play. You won't regret it. Oh and some 34 year old chicks will want to take you home if they see you know the King of Long Beach so get to know the King of Long Beach.
I stopped in here on a random Saturday night and it wound up being a good time! Â At some point this place transforms into a nightclub on the weekends. Â They frequently host local musical artists, and the night I went it was a very talented Long Beach based hip hop group. Â This place will be hosting a networking event, SOPYA, next
Saturday, 2/2, for young professionals, so it looks like another visit is in order for the near future.
My lady (who urged me to write this review) and I visited twice and would give this restaurant Seven Stars For: Genuinely Warm & Friendly Staff (everyone and I really mean everyone), Excellent Service, Excellent Quality of Food, Very Clean, and the Live Music is a plus! The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu so don't be shy about asking for their  recommendations. If you want to have a great night out on the town, this is the place to come. I can't give a better review than this! Cheers Gaslamp Restaurant!
Review Source:My bf and I had dinner here on a Tuesday since we had a Groupon. The Groupon included salads and a dessert to share, as well as the flat iron steak entree for the the each of us, and a bottle of wine.
We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation at 8. The restaurant was dark, but the decor was definitely a plus :) The restaurant seemed to be about 50% full. There was one party ahead of us at the hostess table, and so we waited....and waited...and waited some more. A few waitresses passed by, but did not stop to say anything to any of us (i.e. the hostess will be right with you). After about waiting 5 minutes, someone finally shows up to seat us.
As we're seated, we let the hostess know that we had the Groupon deal to which she informed us that they had "ran out of flat iron steaks". ....Okay... But she informed us that we could pick any appetizers or entrees that would be equivalent in price to the two flat iron entrees. We were really looking forward to the steaks, but at this point what can we do?
Calamari: Definitely one of my favorites of the entire meal. It is different from your usual calamari since they mix it with some cabbage and sweet sauce. The calamari pieces also tasted like real calamari instead of the typical, heavily breaded kind. It also came with a wasabi-type dipping sauce.
Filet Mignon Skewers: 3 skewers with 3 pieces on each. The meat was dry and tough, and I was trying to use as much as the sauce they had at the bottom of the plate as possible to make it more edible.
FIrecracker Shrimp: A couple of average sized shrimp in a little black pot served with a spicy, creamy sauce. Nothing too extravagant or impressive. I just expected something more since it was called Firecracker Shrimp.
Trio of Sliders: Bacon and cheddar, Swiss and Onion, and Pulled Pork. Overall average tasting sliders. Again, nothing too extravagant, but at least the beef patties were thick. Served with supposedly parmesan truffle fries but definitely didn't taste like it. Parmesan cheese was sprinkled on top of the fries which wasn't even melted.
PB and J Monte Cristo: Such a unique dessert! Basically looks like a PB and J sandwich grilled topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We enjoyed the dessert, but it was a little burned.
Overall service was SLOW during the entire meal. We had multiple "servers" who brought us our entrees and informed us that there was a sudden rush of people (since it was comedy night) so the kitchen was backed up.
The boyfriend commented that if it wasn't for the comedy show that night, we probably would have rated this place 2 stars.
I loved it!
I had a $20 for $40 groupon and loved how affordable this restaurant is despite the coupon. I had the ahi tuna appetizer and my bf had the onion rings to start. The tuna was AMAZING. I'm not sure what is in the sauce they use but I'm a fan of it! It was citrusy with a kick, yum! The onion rings were battered right and the ranch that came with it was really good! I'm not sure if it was peppercorn or what but it was really unique and flavorful.
For entrees, the bf had the gaslamp burger and I had the mushroom and swiss. Both were also really cooked nicely. And we got to listen to cool live music while we ate.
I would definitely return
I have been to Gaslamp before, and it was amazing good food. This time I came back with a $25 for $40 Groupon. Now I don't know if it is because I had this Groupon, but the food quantity and taste wasn't the same.. I was very disappointed. If you weren't let me know what you had.
I had calamari appetizer, sliders, pulled pork then bread pudding.
It was mediocre at best.. not crunchy calamari, sliders were so-so I could've made the patties myself, pulled pork could use more sauce, and well dessert was sweet, just caramel sauce, Bread.. chocolate and banana with ice cream.
Incredible place. Stopped in via driveby on a Wednesday night. A great find. Beautiful venue for entertainment. Highly enjoyed the Beatles cover band: 'Beatles Finest'.
A heads up! If you have a "coupon", Groupon, etc. Make sure you inform your Host and or Hostess prior to ordering. Apparently there are discrepancies if used at the Bar. Honestly, just let them know to avoid confusion or problems.
I have been here several times since they opened way back when, but the last time was years ago and had never been here for dinner.
We were brought in on a Groupon that included a well drink, an appetizer, and two meals. Â We called to make a reservation on a Saturday night and was told that a Journey cover band playing at 7:00pm and that there was a $20 cover charge. Â At first, we will a little annoyed since we were just looking to have dinner and that would shouldn't have to pay a cover.
When we arrived, we had a drink at the bar. Â A Kettle One Martini will put you back over $10. Â The restaurant was only about 40% full and they let us pick our seats back further from the stage. Â With the Groupon you were allowed a certain price point, but if you ordered a more premium item, you just paid the difference.
The service and food was good. Â I went with the special which was a glazed salmon and my wife had one of the pasta dishes which was much better than expected. Â This is because in all the years that Gaslamp has been open, I have never heard great things about the food. Â
The Journey cover band was pretty good. Â We saw the real Journey last year and I would say this band was better.
So in the end, we had a good time and worth paying the extra $20. Â However, if you are looking for a quite dinner, this is not the place.
Best fries ever, really. I've had them twice, and each time they've been the crispiest, most perfect fries ever.
I'm mad that the guys' restroom has been painted like EVH's Frankenstrat and the women's has not.
It's cool that it's easy to take public transportation there.
It's sort of hard to get a table here.
A few of my friends has recommended this place so I thought I'd give it a chance for a friends birthday. We came here on a Saturday night and had a blast. I love the non-pretentious feel of the Gaslamp.
There was no cover charge, drinks were cheap and if you get a table there was no bottle service required, we just kept ordering drinks. They have a live 80's tribute band called Knight Rider and it was so much fun! I highly recommend this place.
Came around 5pm on Saturday. We stood by the podium waiting for service for 10 minutes. I had to flag down a waitress before we were acknowledged.
There was a fundraiser event and a rock band playing. Needless to say, it was EXTREMELY loud. Couldn't really talk to my bf who's sitting right next to me because I couldn't hear him.
Food was meh... I ordered the diablo burger. It was nothing spectacular. The fries that came with it were stale. How can you mess up on fries is my question.
The bf ordered chicken lettuce wraps. I tried one and couldn't stomach any further. It was SUPER SALTY!
For dessert, we shared a deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich drenched in maple syrup with an ice cream on top. The syrup sauce was too much so we removed the peanut butter sandwich and placed it on a different plate. The first 4 bites were delicious, but after that, my stomach felt heavy.
I think this place is very underated. It's a large place with a patio for even more space.
The service is very good, the waitresses there are very attentive. We've gone during their slower times, so I don't know how service is during those times.
They have delicious drinks. I recommend their mojitos if you like your drinks not too sweet and strong.
One thing that made me take down a star is that their busboys are over-zealous when it comes to taking your plates. There's been a few instances where we weren't done with our apps and they just take the plates without asking.
Other than that, I'm a return customer, their food is great and their prices aren't too shabby either.
It was 80's night at the Gaslamp with no cover charge
As Whitesnake would sing "Here I go AGAIN!!!!!!!!!......"
Was able sit at a front table before the band performed
as long as we ordered a snack.
The waitress were all SO friendly and outgoing however, they were a little
disorganized since 3 ladies all asked us if we have been helped.
The cheesecake was very delicious ($6)
service was top notch.
Drinks were pricey, 2 vodka mixed drinks in a small plastic cup = $14.00 + tip
Yikes!!! should have drank in the parking lot.
Band sounded great but I was a little disappointed on their song selection this time around so we bailed out early.
I will return with my posse again
