My boyfriend and I went to Ripples on 7/20/2013 for their Bear Night.  It is so nice to be greeted at the door by a doorman who is a true gentleman and professional.  While I was at the cashier's window paying our entry fee, some little drama queen came bym rudely shoving his way through, nearly knocking us both over.  Now I weigh over 300lbs and if i had seen him coming he never would have made it through, but being the little bitch that he is he took a cheap shot and caused me  wrench my back.  My boyfriend and I don't go out to clubs for drama and certainly not to get into a fight, in fact this little fag really was not worth our time.   We entered the bar ready to have fun.  We were greeted by our favorite bartender, another true professional of Ripples.  It was not long after we got our first round of drinks that two men, one who I think was one of the door men and the other I think was the manager, came to check on us to be sure we were OK and apologize for what happened and gave us a free round of drinks.  Also, they came by at least one more time to check on us.  I have a new respect for Ripples and its staff.  They are true professionals.  Some of the other bars in Southern California should take note.,

This review is for bear bar only. I used to love bear bar. In fact, I met my partner there.  Only thing is, bears don't go anymore! Too many weho boys with their "hags". Nicole the bartender is pretty much the only fun thing about coming here anymore. Sorry to say, although I'd rather support a local event, you're better off at bear night in San Diego.

Sunday Beer Bust?  Just that.  What a BUST.  Supposedly it starts at noon, but when my friend and I arrived last Sunday at 2:30pm, we were the ONLY two people in the place - Literally.  There was no one up front, no one at the bar, not a single person appeared to even be working.  Even on the back patio, not ONE person was to be found, staff or otherwise.  We could have walked out with the cash register and all the beer we wanted by the time a bartender finally materialized.  Thankfully, the beer was only $2 for a small draft, and that's exactly what we had - ONE BEER before leaving.  The music was terrible...a single cd playing some artist I'd never heard of and don't care to ever hear again - obviously the musical choice of the only other person around, the barely-present bartender.  I will never go back again on a Sunday, even though it was free to get in.
I have had fun on Friday nights, and there are lots of interesting people to look at and decent dance music.  I just don't know how this place could have been so empty on a beautiful, sunny, Spring Sunday.  I can't have been the only heathen not in church or with family.
I had hoped that Tabatha's take-over would turn this place around.  Let's hope that Long Beach's oldest dance club does survive.
