Try as I might, I can't seem to find a beer I like here.  The atmosphere is pretty laid back, but the bar area definitely needs AC for the alabama summers.  I like this place as a stop along a beer outing, but I much prefer another of the b-ham breweries.

Great brewery in downtown Birmingham, across from the new ballpark.

Great beer and interesting scenery, and it helps its right across from the brand new ball park. the staff is great and very accommodating.

one thing they could do better is the men's restrooms. but other than that a great place to hang out.

This review is for "Snake Handler". In Asheville NC this week, you know "Beer City USA", and I want to say that Good People and especially Snake Handler can hold their own against any beer from Portland to Asheville and San Diego to Boston. Way to go Good People - keep making the people happy!

It's not that I try and have a big ego. The problem is that there are just so many things that make me realize how amazing I am that it's hard not to.

Take the Good People Brewing Company, for example. I leave Alabama, and then they open up a bar inside their brewery. That's right, they have a bar inside.the.damn.brewery. This means that you, too, can enjoy face melting temperatures, random puddles, and the inability to tell one guy from the next due to the standard uniform of baseball cap and beard.

But the real joy here is the beer -- not only is it fantastic, it's also pretty damn cheap and, now that Alabama caught up to the rest of the planet by allowing beer to have more alcohol than the average bottle of water, occasionally quite strong. Their IPA sampling make me proud to be an Alabama native, and I just can't think of a better compliment than that.

But try as you might, I'm still not moving back to Alabama anytime soon. Even if you built that amazing new stadium next door in my honor.

After eating some burgers and spending some hard earned cash, we wanted to while away the awesome afternoon somewhere that we could continue having some drinks in an outdoor location.  Enter Good People Brewing.

So as a disclaimer: I'm a liquor girl typically.  I like to get my drink on with vodkas and rums, not with ales and pilsners.  If I'm on a long day drinking marathon I stick with good ole Miller Lite.  But when in Rome, do as the Romans, so I got the lightest beer (Bearded Lady or something like that).  Nothing wrong with that, tasted cold and smooth.  Read other reviews for comments on the beer.

Ambiance is like a big huge warehouse.  Right when you walk in is a bar area.  To the left are bathrooms as well as some shuffle board.  TIP: apparently these are ladies only...guys are port-a-potties outside.  Hopefully not when it is cold though!  If you go to the right is a big huge room where all the beer tanks are, a bar, and a projection TV that was showing soccer.  Walk out the open garage doors to find a backyard setup with giant Jenga, cornhole, and what appeared to be one frisbee golf "thing" (is that thing a goal or a hole or WTF?).  We played Jenga, made friends with some people hanging out, then ventured out for some cornhole.  Overall a great place to do my favorite outdoor activities....which just happen to be drinking and playing games where smack talk is possible and possibly encouraged....

I wouldn't want to come here on weekend nights because I'd want to get my liquor treats, but for a nice afternoon or before a ballgame it probably is hard to beat!

Great for an early evening crowd or for a Baron's baseball game. It's a fantastic environment to loosen the tie and play some ping-pong with an IPA nearby. Worth a trip for the brews alone.

Great venue, even better with the new Barons ballpark opening in a couple weeks. Pre and post game is going to be crazy at the brewery I'm sure. Avondale takes the cake when it comes to Birmingham brew in my opinion, but Good People has a different vibe with the outdoor space for yard games and large projector screen for watching big games with good company.

Great beer, great people, great atmosphere. Awesome for an intimate music show or just gathering with friends. Cannot wait to enjoy a snakehandler pre/post Barons games this summer!

oh yeah, I Really like this place.

I may be biased, anything remembering me of the PNW gets an extra star.

Great beer, nice people, fun place, plenty of space, good vibe.

Cool, refreshing place where to spend a couple of hours with you buddies while having a great beer fresh out of the tap!
They make good beer. Maybe the IPA still needs some work to compete with NW quality, but the others are already good for a 5 stars.

This is a great place to chill after a long hard day at work. They have many great beers brewed on site. Feel free to play some competivtive corn hole outside and there is most lieky a food truck close at hand for some vittles. They have live music on the weekends as well.

Now that Alabama has decided to, slowly but surely, catch up with the rest of the country's alcohol laws, Good People is our big reward.  I've never been a beer nerd.  I can't break down the differences in a variety of IPAs.  With that said, I know what I like and don't like.  The full selection of Good People beers are both drinkable and highly flavorful.  By "drinkable" I mean that it's not so over the top that I'm done after one.

The brewery has a strong aroma that hits you as soon as you open the door.  As you continue into the main room, you quickly see the bar and the countless boilers that are generating the scent, along with the delicious brew.  There's a spacious courtyard with every yard game you can think of and a game room with shuffleboard and more.

Go there for the games, friendly staff, or the elusive Snakehandler that is available in the brewery all year long.  I obsess over the Snakehandler.  Thank goodness it's not available in a store near me, year around.

Good beer,down-to-earth vibe, and live music. IMHO, one of the nicer places to hangout in Bham.

The taproom has great atmosphere--you're just hanging out in the middle of a brewery. And I love the beer. GP Brown Ale is my favorite.

If you enjoy microbrews, stop by this brewery.  I can see these guys being available in ATL once they have the capacity.  I was at the brewery one week and then saw them featured in Southern Living two weeks later.

I've been to Sam Adam's, Harpoon, and Sweet Water breweries. After a year of procrastination (and as a native of Birmingham) I finally visited Good People.

I can only describe it as an adult playground. Games everywhere (ping pong, giant jenga, a disc golf basket, shulbok, cornhole and more) and a wide open warehouse feel.

One visit put this local joint at the top of my list. I've always loved the beer, now I love the atmosphere they've created and will definitely be back. Wonderful place to hang out and relax.

My mom and Mark have been talking this place up like crazy, so when we went to visit them of course we had to make a stop at Good People. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest Russell and I are craft beer snobs, so we were both skeptical at first. But the skepticism quickly melted away after we pulled up to the brewery.  I was pleasantly surprised by the beer. I've had the Snake Handler at Mom's place but off the tap the flavors were even more robust and complex. I was starving and am used to breweries serving food (which GPB doesn't) so luckily there was a food truck outside where we bought some delicious pulled pork tacos so the cranky beast within was quickly subdued. The only disappointment was that they didn't have the Coffee Oatmeal Stout available, but that just means another trip back East!
I really wish Good People would distribute in California, you'd do well here.

I would love to leave more than 2 stars for this beer but I just can't bring myself to doing it.  I've had the beer and can't say enough good things about the beer, my issue is with their customer service.  I live in Chicago and loved the logo and wanted to support the beer up here in Chicago.  I ordered a hat and a shirt spending about $50 on these items.  I received the wrong hat and have ben trying to get the right hat for the past few months to no avail.  I've gone back and forth with someone over email and it appears that it's just not going to get resolved.  So, unfortunately I'm going to have to contact my bank and advise them that I can't come to a resolution with this matter and let my bank and GPBC work this out.  Again, I love the beer and understand the time that goes into brewing, so, fortunately for me there are other beers that I can spend my money on in the future.

    Cheers everyone!

Love these guys! Down to earth and they care about brewing beer and Birmingham!. And the beer is great! I order it wherever I go that has its, which is mostly everybody these days. Beware the Snakehandler! I pick that one up at the store, and enjoy at home, LOL!

Finally checked out Good People this weekend and it was awesome. It's got a really nice, open atmosphere to it. The tap room is essentially just a giant warehouse and has a cool look, but when bands play there the echo is so bad it drowns out the music a little bit.

The bartenders are really nice/helpful, but it can get difficult to flag them down at times. They've got about every lawn game imaginable in a little outdoor area on the side which I thought was a nice addition. Right now there are five beers on tap. Four of the selections run $5 and Snake Handler is $6--not surprising, considering they are very good premium beers. But it would take a toll on my bank account if I went too often. Special occasions only, I guess.

Glad to have my first review on Yelp be giving the Good People Brewing folks five stars!!

The crew at GPBC were very instrumental in the Free The Hops movement that brought a ton of craft beer and beer education to Alabama.  Their brews are first-class.  The new facilities are clean, organized, and fun to attend.  It's really cool to go in, have a fresh hoppy beer, and check out the brewing facilities.

They now have tours available on Saturdays starting at 1, 2, and 3pm Central Time.  Learn the process of how local favorites like Snake Handler and Fatso are made while enjoying one of your own!!

Another reviewer mentioned their Facebook page, and they are 100% right.  GPBC updates their Facebook and Twitter (@GPBrewing) daily with events related to the brewery and taproom, as well as their other outings like tap takeovers and new beer rollouts.

All in all, glad to have a place like Good People in Alabama.  Look for Good People in can or on tap at your favorite Southeastern watering hole!!  And if they don't have it, tell your bartender that they need it!!!

Good People brews good beer.  And now they have a taproom to show it off.

A great place for beer enthusiasts - enjoying a craft beer just a few feet away from the tanks it's lovingly brewed in.  Friendly bartenders and Good People gear available for purchase.  Beers are priced from $5-7, depending on the ABV and any seasonal varieties.

Their Facebook page is the best place to find out what's happening in the Taproom, when they are open, and what's going on at the brewery.

They also have an event space off to the side of the brewery, I'm sure it will be a popular spot for parties in Bham soon!
