After having some pretty solid delivery from here a la GrubHub, my friends and I decided to pick up some catering trays for our Jamaican-themed birthday party. They did not disappoint! It was fun introducing friends to patties, festival, callaloo and Ting, plus the jerk chicken was spot-on, too.  I'd love to see some pumpkin soup available. That may have been my favorite dish while I was in Negril.

It's nowhere close to where I live, but somehow I'll continue to find an excuse to order from there when I'm up at work. :)

I was really impressed!  We stopped here because the restaurant we originally planned to go to was closed (it was a Sunday).  I was a little skeptical by the name (Good to Go), but I was pleasantly surprised!  The place is charming....reminded me of some of the best places I've been in in the V.I., Kenya, Colombia, India...Very basic decor, but very authentic.

They were out of quite a few things on the menu, which became a laughing joke with us and our server after awhile because it seemed I kept ordering what they didn't have.  But, the food was AMAZING!  Drinks were fun, prices very reasonable.

I would like to first say that I enjoy the jerk chicken here.  Especially compared to one place not too far from here.  I have only two criticisms:

    1. It is pricey compared to some of the Caribbean/jerk/Jamaican restaurants in the area.
    2. Customer service - sometimes the cashiers do not greet you when you enter the restaurant.  They don't smile or say thank you.

Good food, but service could be better.

Not impressed. Delivery guy was great, wish the food was the same! Jerk chicken was very dry an cabbage was tasteless.

This is the second time I've been here and I really want to like this place but its hard. First off we went on a Tuesday afternoon and they were out of wings (??) we ordered curry goat and brown stew chicken which was quite delicious. But the service was bad, the waitress kept dancing and singing and taking her time getting to us. Now I see why it's called good to go and that's how I'll get it next time

I am not an expert on Jamaican food, but I was in the mood for something spicy and tasty. Well, I got the spicy part, but the tasty ... not so much.

I ordered a few items to taste through Grubhub, and here is how it panned out ...

Jerk Chicken ... pretty good. The wings were meaty and they were somewhat flavorful.

Callaloo & Saltfish ... thank you, but no thank you.  I love fish, but this had a fishy taste I found off putting. I would never eat this one again, in fact after a few bites, I threw it away.

Mac n' Cheese ... ok, nothing special

Candied Yams ... pretty good, not overly sweet, but flavorful.

Southern Style Cornbread ... ok, a tad dry but had a nice taste.

Homemade Caramel Cake ... very good. I'd order the cake again.

I am giving Good To Go 3 stars rather than 2 because I did like some of the items. I don't think Jamaican cuisine is  high on my list, but I have to try more places to decide for sure.

If you go, leave room for the caramel cake, but I'd skip the Callaloo & Saltfish.

I ordered the brown stew chicken with rice and beans which was one of the most taasteless and dry jamaiican dishes I have had in my entire life. They threw a piece of thickly cut plaintain on top which was also tasteless and dry. OMG!

Upon going up to the counter to order, I was not greeted even after speaking to the girl behind the counter first. It is one thing to say that this is the culture but let's remember this is a business first! You are in the US. Let's be courteous to one another. Word of mouth and repeat customers help make the business a successful one.

Apart from the tasteless dish I ordered, I might have considered going back to try another dish if the service was friendly. You can not have tasteless food and service, that does not do it for me

I did also order a fruit juice drink that had mango, pineapple and papaya blended with honey and ice. That was the best thing I did at this place.

For the $15+ I spent on that tasteless dish, needless to say, I will not go back.

With there being some pretty good jamaiican restaurants around Chicago, I will travel farther if I have to for better service and food.

Jerk chicken and brown stew - pork were great.  Red Stripes for only $3.  Lose a point for charging $8 for a vodka soda... $16 for a double.

Ordered the jerk chicken. Delicious! I can't believe this place has an average rating. The chicken had a wonderful smokey taste and the sauce that accompanied it was pleasantly spicy. Oh and they deliver!!! Love it! I'll definitely  be returning.

We ordered from Good to Go through Grub Hub. My veggie lady got the vegetarian special, with cabbage and mac n' cheese. It was basically cabbage, more cabbage,  (tasty cabbage, though), plus lots of starch. She said the mac wasn't terribly impressive, but liked the cabbage and the rice. I got the curry chicken, which was very good, although I suffered from a bit of indigestion the next day. My sides were cabbage and collard greens. All told a good meal, with huge portions, although the description of the vegetarian dinner special on the menu wasn't clear (which is how we wound up with so much cabbage).

Definitely a fan!  Jerk Chicken and Ting is what it's all about.  Decent serving size, nice people,  but sadly not a Jamaican accent around.

Ok I am the first to review this.  Yes!

This spot was chosen with my niece for an assignment for school, so I tagged along so I may do a review.

Finding the place was easy as was the parking (street) on a sunday night.  On walking in, place was like half a restaurant half a fast food place, and the lady behind the counter disappeared for a few mins, which was kinda odd; upon appraching the counter we got her atttention and ordered.  That was the only thing about this place.

    Everything else...was pretty damn awesome.

My niece got the jerk pork, delectable with the additional sauce..I ordered a Kingfish appetiser (not expecting it to be a big piece) but it was a small meal to its own.  Then MY dish came out of jerk goat (i have to double check as I left the menu at home but really wanted to post this) with cabbage and rice.  Also, the ginger beer was pretty damn awesome, tasty and addicting.  (I actually ordered an additional dish of the jerk pork for work today)  Also getting the caramel cake, I agree with the lady whom I asked 'how is the cake?'  To which she replied, 'addicting.'  So we wont be seeing to much of that next year as one of my goals is to lose alittle (who isn't doing this? lol)

My niece was full with her order (which was 2 options, large or small.  She got small, I got large.)  Wasn't expecting such portions and I was in a food coman after I got home.  Also in my bag of my order and my nieces doggy bag was 2 cards, They also have nights where they have live music.  The music they were pumping thru there (jamaican, mon) was great.  Now let me talk to you about the inside (to which my pics will also give credence to)

You walk in and there is a counter right there with a door and windo to the kitchen.  This is the side I said looks like a fast food place.  Once you look left, you see the rest of the place where there is a restaurant/bar section which was lit well and clean and nice, really relaxing.  Here is where they have the entertainment, and quite roomy.  The bathrooms were clean and decoratvie alittle, and after the initial 5 minutes of silence the staff was really friendly.  Owned by a family, I am glad the 'feel' of such and the pride behind the service was there.

    And yes I am verbose.

As far as the question do they take reservation?  I am sure they do as they had tables with 'reserved' on them, but double check.

Went last night and the service was good but we were the  only ones dining in so it should have been good!

The patties were good but not great.

The jerk chicken was excellent though the sauce itself wasn't great. My wife got the curry chicken which she liked though she would have liked more white meat but that is a personal preference.

The rice was very tasty. Plantains were good and not greasy.

All in all it was good, just not great.

The service appears to have improved.  Ours was excellent.

Nice place, nice people.  Extensive menu, which means you have to ask what they actually have today, but that's OK cuz...

The plantains were perfectly carmelized.  I had the fresh pineapple/lime/ginger drink and it couldn't have been a better blend.  I then had two lovely little grilled butterfish (actually, I took one home cuz we'd just had a sandwich at Romanian Kosher).  I've never had a fish with flesh that came so easily off the bones.  They were served with a very light vinegar (with onions and Scotch bonnet peppers) that was tasty and hot! My buddy said the jerk chicken was good, but that they needed to find a better chicken picker -- he said there were bits of feather or tendril or something in it -- sounds like good 'ol country yardbird to me!  Anyway, it did not stop him from enjoying his chicken.

I understand the frustration with this place because the service is not wonderful. If I was rating their service it would be one star. Some people just don't know what it takes to work in a restaurant.

That being said, I loved the food. I am not the most familiar person in the world with Jamaican food. I do know that Jerk seasoning and sauce is a very complex, spicy and yes, overpowering, taste but sometimes you are in the mood for that. I had both the chicken and pork. You can pass on the pork but the chicken is delicious and so are the beans and rice. If you like your meat extra spicy, which I do, get extra sauce on the side and dip every piece for a true flavor explosion. Also, be sure to try one of their drinks, I had a pineapple juice with lime and ginger and it was so unique and tasty that I would go back to get it mixed with rum (they have a bar in the seating area of the restaurant. Prices are steep for the area but the quality of food (though not the service) and the huge portions are worth it.

Why does it take 40 mins. to get my order of jerk chicken?  Oh, that's because the cook is chit chatting with the girl at the register!!  AND, the 4 pieces of festival I ordered at $2.50 each came to me looking like one piece cut into four smaller portions (think the size of a pen top).  The sauce is okay, but for Rogers Park, there definitely needs to be more of a competitive spirit if we're talking Jamaican cuisine.

After trying Jamaica Jerk which is 2 miles away, I wanted to give Good to GO a GO.  I ordered the the Jerk Chicken w/ Fries ($10.50) to GO.  While I was waiting for my order, I snacked on their beef patty.  I've had better, although it was in Montego Bay.
10 minutes had GOne by,  I retrieved my order and I was good to GO.  Are you annoyed by my use of GO yet? You can have a GO at me, but that's how I felt when I was eating my jerk chicken. The chicken was too rubbery.  I felt the sauce was overpowered by allspice and had  a strong clove aroma to it, which I personally don't like.
I still prefer the Jerk Trio at Jamaica Jerk.  More Food, Cheaper, Better Taste!

What a gem, I am so happy I found this place!  On the quest for unique dining experiences in Chicago, I stumbled upon this amazing restaurant while finishing up with a client in the area.

The food did not miss a beat!  A personal favorite; Curry Chicken, and having lived in the U.K. I've had my fare share of Jamaican Cuisine and Good To Go, failed to disappoint.  It's my new favorite date spot, the upscale meets bistro look is definitely a plus.  And the drinks were so delicious, not watered down in the least.

Overall, it's refreshing selection of Jamaican favorites.
