Cross-Rhodes

Terrible. Usually order carryout and haven't had a bad experience before. Tonight I made the mistake of trying to order Greek fries with sauce on the side (which I had done once before). Was told "it never happened". I explained that it had happened because I had done it once with my kids who were unsure whether or not they would like the sauce. Owner continued shaking her head and scowling saying that her guys wouldn't do it and if the waitress had done it she would have been fired. She then interrogated me about how the sauce came to the table, what kind of container it was in, etc... explaining that the sauce came in a liquified state and could not be served in a ramekin as I had described. What would have been appropriate was an apology for the confusion caused by my first experience and a friendly smile from the owner. Even if I was mistaken (which I wasn't), you don't treat a loyal customer like this. I will never give this place another cent and encourage you to do likewise.

Delicious! Evanston doesn't have much competition for Mediterranean food, but CrossRhodes could hold its own in Greektown.

I love the food here so damn much.  I grew up a few blocks away and basically had CR once-a-week.  I've never had a better gyro or skirt steak and the chicken is always a good bet.  I've had the burger which is also good but never really ventured past these items.  Off course I can't forget about the best fries in Chicago; which are, the Greek fries.  That lemon herb juice CR puts on everything is crack.  Especially when they douse the skirt steak and rice in the marinade.

It's nice to see they have incorporated some craft beers to choose from.  Some people complain about cash only but that's always been the case here and it's a family establishment and saves money on the credit card transaction fees. There's a bank next door. Deal with it.

Nothing much to complain about. Service is great and friendly and the food is fantastic.  It's such a bummer that Jeff, the original founder and owner passed away a few months ago. He's one of the reasons CR was a great place to get a meal and hang out. Glad to see CR is still going strong with Jeff's daughter in charge.

Even though my wife and I moved further west and south in Chicago I will still make a trip out here once a month, at least.
