Starting with the positives - lively and fun atmosphere, creative cocktails, strong beer list, crispy crust on generously sized pizzas - Union makes for a decent GNO. Â The wait on a Thursday night was pretty long, with empty tables taunting us. Â We squeezed into the bar area, ordering margaritas while we waited. Â As we waited, our hunger multiplied, so we had an appetizer pizza. Â Our second order of margaritas came out as two Margherita pizzas, which explained why we had empty glasses for so long. Â Our server apologized profusely, and we finally were sat for dinner in the back near the bathrooms (boo). Â We went family style with mac and cheese, potato rosemary, four cheese, shrimp/bacon/pineapple, and the Greek special - feta/red onion/olives/spinach/bechamel. Â I'm more of a deep dish girl, but thought that Union put on a nice show.
Review Source:Had this place with its adjoining live music venue been there when I lived in Evanston I may not have moved back into Chicago! Â The only thing I really don't like about Union is the word "Pizzeria" in the name. Such a misnomer for this hip, swanky, lounge-y, mid-century modern furnished restaurant with SO MUCH MORE on its menu than pizza...though the pizzas are GREAT!
