We showed up on a Wednesday night at 8 (for some odd reason they open only from Wednesday on from 8pm until 1am) and they claimed they weren't able to serve food because the chef wasn't there. What kind of an establishment is this? We had a groupon that we couldn't use so we contacted groupon to return it. Would not recommend.
Review Source:I walked by the Grande shortly after they opened and was immediately impressed by the decor. Therefore, when I saw a movie premier event they were hosting, I thought this would be a great chance to check it out with my girlfriends. The event didn't start on time and the cocktails were super expensive. I found it to be just another stuffy overpriced bar/lounge on Atwells. I was really hoping it would be something more and given the terrible service reviews I read, I am not sure I would dine there. However, I usually like to give a place the benefit of the doubt and try it for a second time.
Review Source:I've only been here for drinks on a weekend night. The decor is nice, they have done a great remodel. I definitely would like to come here to try their cuisine.
I have had 3 drinks here and none of them were favorable. With a short list of specialty cocktails, maybe they should change it up a bit.
I'm not sure how I feel about it's bar identity. It's REALLY loud, so don't go here if you want to have a conversation with anyone. I think they would be better off having the bar in the middle so people can stand around it instead of everyone standing around the existing bar to the left while the rest sit awkwardly to the right at dining tables that are half empty. If it's going to be a bar, then just be one. If it's going to be a restaurant, be one. The mix is awkward due to the layout.
Also, there is an extensive list for bottle service. I am not sure anyone wants to have bottle service at this place. There is no dancing, and everyone has their back to the tables since they are pushing their way to the bar. Maybe bottle service works in the summertime when they can open the windows/doors to the sidewalk and customers can people watch. Maybe if they could obtain a license for entertainment they could have some dancing?
I wish this place well and hope they will figure out the right mix. I'll check it out for dinner soon and post again.
I would have loved to write a glowing review for this restaurant. Â As soon as I walked in, I was impressed with my surroundings. Â It is absolutely beautiful. Â Things went downhill when I was seated and met my waiter. Â He provided atrocious service. Â It started when I asked to learn more about some of the wine on the menu. Â He had no idea which I accepted and he did ask someone else for help. Â He brough the bottle to the table and attempted to open it. Â He failed miserably. Â At that point, he told me that he would get a new bottle. Â What he did was go to the bar and struggle with the same bottle for about 10 minutes. Â Finally, the bartender was able to open the bottle for him. Â The waiter brought the unopened bottle to the table and proceeded to fill our glasses (over half of the large wine glass) with wine. Â He did not offer a taste and overfilled our glasses. Â This was a $40 bottle of wine. Â He could not remember our orders - there was only two of us. Â He asked us three times and went he delivered the orders - he still presented the incorrect plate to me. Â My friend was pleased with her dinner. Â My duck was pretty good - not the best that I ever had. Â Our appetizer of fresh heirloom tomatoes was delightful. Â We did not stay for coffee and dessert - due to the sour taste the waiter left with us. Â I did complain to the person at the head of the house and he told me that there have been other complaints about this waiter. Â If this is the case, I would be willing to try The Grande again.
Review Source:When I first walked into the Grande the chandeliers and fireplace mantle immediately caught my attention. The decor is beautiful, and the attention to detail is outstanding. I've traveled all around the world, and the ambiance at the Grande is similar to that of the boutique restaurants in Paris. The steak frites were amazing and cooked to perfection. As I was leaving, the bar scene seemed to be picking up (around 10:30ish). I will definitely recommend this spot to my friends. Providence needed a place like this. Love it.
Review Source:I should start to say this is the first place I am reviewing because I am from Providence, very routine, and thought I would never try this place but because of the yelp reviews I wanted to try it out.
First, I have to admit, it may be one of the 5 best places in Providence when it comes to the décor. From the wall paper, to the wood trim, and the massive chandler in the center and around the room it has a look of a miniature ball room. Priceless. Service was good, sat and ate at the bar with friends, and the bartender, Paige, I believe, is not only a knockout but very nice and conversational which to me is key for any bartender. The food was great, did, dinner and dessert, the Steak Frites came out like a work of art and was unbelievable, and their chocolate cake concoction was perfect. The cocktails are done right, but the drink list is definitely chic friendly, but I will admit the espresso martini I had was extremely good.
I stayed a little after dinner and the restaurant seems to turn into a more funky environment, they change the music and increase the volume for more of a lounge atmosphere which kept me ther a little later then expected. I very good looking crowd probably a range of 25-35 in age group (my opinion)
Would 100% recommend, but it's a place you need to appreciate. They are a little different, but you will not be disappointed.
Good, but not Great. I had dinner with five friends on a Saturday night and I'd say we were one of maybe four or five other tables. It was one of our waiter's first nights on the job, so I'll cut him some slack for the less than stellar service (slow and not attentive.) Let's hope they iron out the kinks in case it gets busy.
We shared the mussels and brie for appetizers. Entrees included the Kobe Burger, Duck and Steak Frites. For dessert, the chocolate cake and butterscotch pot du creme. All good, but nothing spectacular. With five of us drinking, a couple of appetizers and two desserts it landed at $100 per couple (tax & gratuity included.)
I'd say give it a shot, prices are reasonable and drink list fantastic. Decor is a modern vintage chic. In all honesty it's a club masquerading as a restaurant from 5pm - 9pm.
I guess the joke was on us. We went to The Grande for a brunch on a short trip down from Boston. Normally yelp reviews are so helpful and spot on. Granted I can see it being more of a night spot and that is our own fault. I had the Kobe burger which definitely wasn't Kobe beef and was flavorless. Green tomatoes were nice on the burger. I ordered coffee when we got there and it arrived when we were done. My fries had a funny synthetic taste to them like the frying oil needed to be changed and j couldn't finish them. Fiancé had the not thrilling eggs and hash and iced tea that was a small glass of cold water with a tea bag dunked a few times. Cocktail and champagne list looked great. So go here for drinks and the blaring music. Very Italian club like, which is fun. Two stars for the decor which was black and white. Just can't recommend the food.
Review Source:The GRANDE on Federal Hill is a dining experience like no other. The moment you walk through the door, you know you're in for something special. The decor is sophisticated and stunning! They have beautiful chandeliers that make the restaurant glow. I love the way the menu is written, calling out each delicious ingredient in a simple way. The food is beautifully prepared and perfectly executed, I guarantee you'll be sharing dishes with one another. Service is attentive and informative as well. Make sure you save room for dessert (which is prepared in-house). It's also a great lounge to visit at night - they have a spectacular drink menu. Overall, everytime I visit The GRANDE, I feel as if I am taken out of the typical Providence scene and taken somewhere "grande"! I highly recommend this chic location! Hats off the staff of The GRANDE, especially the Chef and his team.
Review Source:Well, let's start by saying I had a GRANDE experience.
I took my beautiful girlfriend down there for her birthday and it was an exceptional night. We were personally greeted by the owner, I think his name was Patrick, after we were seated. He thanked us for our business and offered his services if there was anything we needed.
This small french restaurant is uniquely decorated with fresh flowers, fancy plate ware and the servers are all dressed very nice.
The service is very good, everyone seems to be glad that you're there and you feel like you can ask whatever you want and they will be happy to oblige.
On to the food - fantastic. We split the mussels to start. Now, these mussels are the best I have ever had in my 27 years of life. The broth is to die for - we asked for more bread to dip in it - truly fantastic. She got the salad for an entree and I got the chicken. Both were absolutely fabulous. The chicken is marinated and cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes melt in your mouth. The salad was crisp, new and full of flavor.
Pricing - some may gripe about a $20 chicken meal or a $30 steak meal. Honestly if you think like that, you don't appreciate quality food and a quality atmosphere. The value at the Grande is 100% worth it.
I plan on visiting this place at least once a month, although I live in Boston. Certainly a great addition to Federal Hill! You will no be disappointed!
I attended The Grande's "Grand Opening" with friends and definitely had a great first impression. Â We enjoyed the chef's creative cuisine and enjoyed meeting some of the partner's and staff. I have made reservations for brunch this Sunday to honor a friend on her Birthday- can't wait!
Review Source:The Grande is a great addition to historic FEDERAL HILL in Providence, Rhode Island. It is elegant and decadent inside with beautiful decor.  It is a wonderful place to bring a date or just to enjoy with friends. Definitively check out their Sunday Brunch! The atmosphere is full of good fun people  and the food is GREAT! Very glad this place was added to the Providence restaurant and lounge scene
