I am giving this place 2 stars only in part because I have visited this establishment several times in the past with moderate service. However, last Saturday, I tried grabing a late dinner and some drinks with my father and husband. We were seated immediately in the beer garden outside. We sat there for 20 MINUTES with no acknowledgement by the wait staff. Not even a quick "Hey, sorry, we are totally slammed with all of these 20 year olds drinking all over the patio, your dinner is gonna have to wait. But I will get you some water to hold you over for the next 7 hours, ok??"

Aggrivated, our group of 3 traveled inside thinking we would be readily seen and served since everyone was outside. This unfortunately not the case. I even told the hostess we were moving inside, and she couldn't care less. We waited for another 10 minutes, and looked around to find more frustrated people without food or drinks. ON A SATURDAY NIGHT--this should be primetime service!! I was going to give them money in place of dinner and drinks, but obviously they weren't interested.

This place has mediocre food, deplorable service and high drink prices.

Growlers pub, great patio.  However they could not handle my party of 6.  And when we finally did get a table we were squeezed in next to a private party, and told we were not able to order food.  Mean while there were plenty of open tables, including the 3 picnic tables that remain open throughout the night. To end in a pro, the food that passes constantly looks and smells delicious!!! Hash tag... Is that right

This review is tricky because I'm torn, so I'll just cop out with a 3 star.  To preface, I spent many, many a great night here 10-15 years ago.  Growler's was always a go to, and one could always count on there being a variety of interesting and cool patrons.  And I LOVED their old menu - Shepard's pie and an incredible buffalo chicken sandwich.

That said, they have changed their menu.  Having not been here in recent years, I  bought an extremely generous Groupon for Growler's a couple months back ($40 for 4 entrees/4 drinks... BOOM) and we decided to use it to use it to take my parents out to dinner.  It was really disappointing that the menu has been changed from a traditional Irish pub style to standard American fare.

I was pretty saddened to see how dilapidated the exterior of this place is.  It's a lovely tudor building, but is in serious need of a contractor (paint job, gutter work, etc).  And unfortunately, the interior also needs some updating.  It has some great features - stained glass windows, a great bar, stone fireplaces, etc., but just needs some affection.

The food itself was actually pretty good.   I'll start with the bad - the "grilled" chicken spedini sandwich was totally deep-fried & almost burnt.  Burnt aside, it tasted ok, but my mom is the one who ordered it & she's pretty much allergic to fried.  It's pretty egregious to called something grilled, but serve it up fried, regardless of the end taste.  The hand cut fries were rather soggy.  On the other hand, my husband's burger was pretty good.  My strip steak was slightly over-cooked, but it was huge, had a really nice flavor & was surprising tender.  The side veggies were delicious (a blend of onions, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots).  And ummm, hello fried pickles.  The sauce that came on the side was INSANE.

The service was pretty negligent & forgetful.  The hostess was MIA.

They have a really lovely draft beer selection if that's your thing.  Ciders, lagers, lambics, hefeweizens, stouts, ales...

    Worth a visit.

I have not been here to eat since they changed the menu, but I am very glad I gave their food another chance. The Ruben is to die for and labeled as a house special on the menu. Substitute the chips for the truffle parmesean fries. Everything I tied had great layers of flavor. The menu has been edited down and I agree with their decision to do so. Much better than your average pub/bar food. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is that they have since extensively altered their beer list. Cut in half would be a better way to describe it.

Even though they have new owners now and don't offer as wide a beer selection, it's still one of the best in the city.  I discovered a Unibroue wheat beer that I loooove, that I never would have come across if my waiter hadn't recommended it to me after asking me about some of the other beers I like.

I haven't eaten there since they changed owners, but their food has always been very decent.  Not fine dining, but some seriously good grub after a handful of drinks.

Their back patio is maybe my favorite in the STL area, and I LOVE a good patio.  I drug all of my friends here for my birthday back in September and the weather was perfect.  The outdoor bar is a plus too.  This is just a great, laid back place to have some laughs and meet good people.

Growler's Pub is NOT A BIKER BAR, I REPEAT, NOT A BIKER BAR!! Don't let the name and location fool you. It certainly surprised me. This is a hidden gem in the KIRKWOOD/SUNSET HILLS area. Seriously, they have an amazing beer garden in the back, much to the style of a real one you'd find in Germany. It's pretty spacious, wide and neatly flanked by ropes of Ivy all around. The beer menu on tap is out of this world. There were 40 on hand, and I chose "TANK 7" from Boulevard Brewing and I was pleased. It was at a great price as well, not like downtown where I'm from. I am coming back for sure to check out their extensive food menu. This place makes for an ideal destination for large groups, or happy hour occasions.  I highly encourage you to check this place out while you shop around in the area!

I am a very old Growlers regular. I finished nine beer cards before the change in management took place. Yes, it was a shock at first. Yes, after so many years, it is normal for any human being to fear and resist change. All of you that have been trashing this place because it's not the way it was need to give it another chance. Focus on whether it is heading in the right direction rather than where it's been.

The menu has shrunk but the quality of the items is fantastic. Try some of the new stuff... first class quality and preparations. AND the menu will expand again to include more of the old favorites and more new things. True they don't have 132 beers anymore, but they have 60+ and still as many drafts as before, and they will rotate more than twice a year. Remember, I completed nine cards, and having 60 beers to chose from is plenty on any given night.

Yesterday Growlers had their 12th annual Oktoberfest. Great German band, great food, just like the old days. I wish more of the old timers had been there, but there was a great crowd.

I drive a pretty good way to get to Growlers. In spite of the transition pain they had to go through, I think they ARE heading in the right direction and are worthy of the trip. Yeah, I've tried other places around town and nothing compares, IMHO. Growlers is back and you should come back.

4/5 stars bacause I know that more is coming.

AND NO, NOBODY IS GIVING ME ANYTHING TO WRITE THIS...

My wife and I stopped into Growler's for a beer and some dinner.  We were surprised by the new menu, which is pretty small and a bit pricey.  My wife had the fish and chips.  She gave them the thumbs up.  Not a big fried fish fan myself, but the bite I had wasn't bad.  I ordered the Rueben because it said "House Specialty" or something like that on the menu.  I love Rueben's but they are hit or miss in most restaurants.  Growler's is a miss.  First of all, it's $10 which I don't mind paying if it's stellar (we're talking about a sandwich).  It came with chips, fries are $1 extra.  There wasn't a whole lot of meat on the sandwich, but what really set it back was some kind of yellow runny mustard sauce dripping out of it.  I think there was 1000 Island on it as well, but not sure.  I wouldn't order it again.

Our server, Mike, did a great job.  He explained all the happy hour specials and was quick to fill up our pints.  I would definitely go back to Growler's for drinks in the beer garden.  It's very shady and a few fans kept the air flowing.  Nice setting to enjoy some cold one's.  Will skip the food next time.

I used to love the old Growlers.  The "new" version is terrible.  The beer menu is not the same and the food menu is completely useless now.  The old menu was way too large, but the new menu is very sparse.  I am not that picky and I even had trouble figuring out what to eat there, settling on some sort of Italian sandwich which was basically some cold cuts and dressing on a bun.  I could have made that at home.  They were nice enough to ask if chips were ok as a side, but since there don't appear to be alternatives anymore I think that's just a formality.  Basically you're paying a lot for a lunch like you and your friends might get served at your mom's house over the summer when you were in fifth grade.

The beer garden is visually attractive, though.

I've been a big fan of Growler's for ages, usually frequenting the now closed Creve Coeur location. I was a frequent enough patron to complete the entire beer card program (which no longer exists) and earn the giant pewter mug out of it. A friend once asked a manager, who estimated a single person earning a mug spent nearly $5,000 combined on beer and food to earn it. Growlers used to be one of my favorite bars and restaurants in the world.

The new menu has drastically changed that. The policies of the new management/chef seem to be to disregard their existing fervent fans and hope to start over fresh, it seems. The beer list is much shortened and the loyalty cards no longer exist (because it would make so little sense to give people an incentive to return). I had a number of favorites on the menu, and all of them are gone. The menu feels now like someone took the food menu of a national chain like TGI Fridays, shrunk it, and tried to make things sound fancier. The only effect is that the food is fussier and it simply is no longer the Growlers I loved.

I went there a few weeks ago and spoke with the management. They were pleasant enough, but I still walked out of the restaurant without eating or ordering a beer. This is no longer the restaurant you're looking for.

Good food, decent beer selection, and great atmosphere. It has a neighborhood feel that makes me feel nostalgic for St. Louis.

The outdoor patio is great when the weather is, which makes this a summertime must. I'm sure I'll be back when I'm in town!

Growlers is pretty close to my house and I have driven by it many times. I saw a picture of a salad with a pretzel on the side and was intrigued, so my husband and I headed here on a Tuesday night to get some grub. We arrived right before 7pm and the place was packed. They have awesome happy hour specials, which explains it. The beer list is out of this world. They have a LOT of beers, including a lot of Missouri beers. The hostess, who I think was the owner or manager, told us the specials and advised us to order at the bar if we wanted to take advantage of them because there wasn't a table ready yet and happy hour was almost over. We appreciated the heads up!

We got our table shortly thereafter. Our waitress, Casey (?), was on the ball. She provided us with a level of service that was impressive. We ordered our food. It came out quickly. I got the apple raspberry salad with a different kind of cheese than bleu, my least favorite. It came with greens, walnuts, craisins, cheese, apples and raspberry vinaigrette with a hot soft pretzel on the side. The pretzel was a fun and yummy side for a salad. The salad was HUGE and the toppings were generous, which I appreciated. The one thing I did not like about the salad was the apples. They were weird looking. My husband said they didn't even look like apples. They were soggy and tasted weird, like they had been sitting in a tub of lemon juice or water for a long time. I couldn't eat them. The dressing was really good though and everything else tasted really fresh.

My husband got the club sandwich. It was big and came with fries. He enjoyed both of those things.

I ended up taking a lot of my salad home, and our server brought me a box and extra dressing, plus a top for the dressing I hadn't used. Props to that! The owner/manager/hostess also was walking around to see how people's meals were. I like that it seems like a higher up cares!

We'll probably come back and try it again. My husband wants to try more sandwiches and I would like to try some more beers and the happy our specials/apps.

Everyone is talking about the beer and patio, but there is little mention of the greatest asset of Growlers, their nachos!  The absolute best nachos in all of St. Louis, Mexican and non-Mexican restaurants.  I could go there and drink a glass of water and sit at their worst table and be completely content with a pile of their nachos.

I could almost give Growlers a five star just based on the nachos alone, but unfortunately they have gone down hill just a tad.  They are a bit smaller than they used to be and I believe they have stopped using rarebit in addition to melted cheese.  They do however have a toasty warm, seasoned, crispy pile of red and black tortilla chips, creamy cheese, a pile of apple sauce consistency salsa and sour cream, jalapenos and favorably seasoned chicken.

Also, they have a nice big patio, lots of beer and if I didn't mention it before, awesome NACHOS!

What can you say about a place that already has a million reviews? Plenty!

My girlfriend, friends and I decided to chow down at Growlers before a concert at the Old Rock House. They usually take FOREVER to get our food out, so we went way ahead of time. Damn my luck.

The four of us were seated in some dark corner where we were wedged between two "quiverfull" families with about 10 kids each.

*Grammer freaks: I realize that was a long ass run-on sentence, but I don't care. It kind of shows how long we waited for our food; too long!

The sad part is, we were waiting for NOTHING since the waiter never put our order in. We were there for an hour before he realized what the hold up was. So did we get our food for free or a discount? No, but we did get a free basket of chips and dip! Yippie!

Besides the free chips, we got cards for free apps for the next time we wanted to dine at Growlers. (Insert eye roll). Two of our friends were from out of town, so that was pointless. At any rate, the food was amazing as always. I just feel the service was wack.

And because this is my first review without mentioning alcohol, I'll just put a stop to that right now. I gave this place two stars originally, but upped it to three based on the fact that they have every beer known to mankind. This makes a drunk femme like me happy because the more my significant other drinks, the more likely it is that she will buy me Long Islands and cosmos to my hearts content!

So, what should you take away from this long, drawn out review?

If you go to Growlers, expect to experience Ethiopian-like starvation while waiting for your amazing food and drinks.

I give Grower''s Pub four stars just for having an amazing patio and beer selection. The food and service is generally good too. It's a fun place for lunch or dinner and always a great time with a group of friends.

Growler's is one of my top 3 patios. The others being Sage and McGurk's.

Amazing beer collection, they even give you a little card to keep you interested and to keep track of what beers of their nearly 150 different varieties from all over teh world.

The happy hour is great, good deals on apps.  Patio is perfect for a nice day.  Easy to sit out here for a few hours trying different beers and different appetizer varieties.

Massive selection of beer.  Really nice beer garden as well (if it's summer time).

The place itself is OK.  The food is your standard bar fare as well.

I dunno I just don't care for it as much as other bars.  You may think otherwise.

I like this place, mainly because its close to my house and it's not helen fitzgerald's.

Huge beer selection. Mixed drinks are always strong and the food is pretty good.

Problems... parking kinda sucks. I just went here the wkend before St. Pats and it was packed, service pretty slow, hot as hell in there, they need to fix the lighting...make it more pub friendly and not a stage w/a ton of spotlights - they are almost blinding in some areas. Have never been on out on the patio, but it looks nice.

Most likely I will be there again soon...just not on a Friday night, not when its packed and not w/o my sunglasses.

I believe that bars should seek ways to make themselves unique.  That fosters a spirit of competition, of capitalism, of Americanism.  Say "Growlers" and nearly everyone of drinking age in the area has heard of Growlers' wall of champion drinkers (formally, the Royal Order of Tasters Beer Club).  Now, I don't need my name on a wall to claim that status, and an attempt to sample ALL of Growlers' beers is a rich man's folly, but I am strongly in favor of the Club nonetheless.  Food is good, the beer list is staggering, but while I like the idea of a Europub neighborhood gathering place, it was relatively dead when last I went.  I can't wait to go back, award a 4th star, and get a few more beers checked off my GROTBC card.

If you hate beer, stop reading now. If you love beer, Growlers is going to have its way with you. To really be considered a beer bar, you have to carry more than AB In-Bev products or PBR (I love PBR so no, I'm not a hater). Growlers carries 131 bottles and a crazy amount of selections on tap. Step into the front door and consider it a mini international tour for your taste buds with beer selections from exotic locales like  Vietnam, Brazil, England, Mexico, Germany, Ireland, India, Sri Lanka and the good ole USA.

I started by keeping it simple with a tasty bottle of Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat. I was in the mood for a fruity selection and this hit the spot. I also sipped my friend's Pyramid Apricot Ale. Does that count as 2 of my 5 servings of fruits and veggies for the day?

I ended my visit with a bartendar recommend delight called Purple Death. Its a beer mixer consisting of chambord, cider and pale ale. Purple Death put me in pure heaven. Seriously if it is the only thing you order at Growlers, you won't regret it. Maybe you will but at least you tried it.

The atmosphere was good, happy hour crowd. Bartender was nice but disappeared for extended periods trying to manage the entire length of the bar which got full quickly. I have ordered food at Growlers in the past. My suggestion? Chicken fingers. They  make a mean chicken finger platter.

Growlers. Good neighborhood spot for a casual happy hour.

Growlers earns a B+ for the weekday happy hour experience if you want something low-key and easy. Throw on some jeans, grab a seat at the bar, and get ready for...

Beer! I'm not usually a beer lady, but I sure was tonight! Perhaps my problem was that I've never had over 100 beers to choose from. I felt like I'd be missing out on something if I went with my standard cocktail instead of a brew, so I made an effort and decided on the Pyramid Apricot Ale. It was light, fruity, and just what I was looking for after a long day! I usually feel so heavy after beer, but not this time. My happy hour date, Pamela R, had the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat and she was pretty satisfied as well. The bartender happily made the recommendations. You could get into some serious trouble sitting at the bar at Growlers. So... many... choices...

I actually executed some self control while I was there and didn't eat the bar food, but everything smelled amazing and I saw some fine looking burgers and chicken wings pass by me a few times. I can definitely see myself coming here on a laid-back night! Much needed change of pace.

I am pretty sure they used to have a location off of 94 west of the river back in the day. That is the one I am most familiar with. Great beer selection to enjoy and some of the best scotch eggs I have had.
Whether playing catch up with friends or watching the game, a good choice for either.

Co-workers and I went for happy hour this past week, and it was decent.

    Pros:
    -MAGIC HAT on TAP!!!!!!
-For a bar, it's kinda cozy

    Cons:
    -Happy Hour specials? meh
-Bar space for a group of 20 wasn't happening, we got up close and personal

Overall, I'd go back, but probably with a smaller group.

I had my birthday dinner with a large group of family and we had an awesome time!

Best beer selection outside of the city, hands down, in my book. Many beers from all over the world. I had a Delirium Tremens and it knocked me on my butt, but sooo good!

They have a great beer garden, but it was a bit too chilly sit outside despite a couple of portable heaters. The only hiccup we had was that my mom called in advance to alert them of our group of 20 coming in that evening, and they gave our spot away to a group of another 20 who happened to come in before us! However, the manage did a great job of accommodating us and opened up their designated "party" room just for our group. How nice!

The food was good, but not great. The service was alright, but the girl did work really hard to keep everyone as happy as possible even though she was a bit slow and forgetful.

Overall a great birthday dinner and a great time!

This has got to be one of my absolute favorites when I go visit St. Louis for the weekend.  I Love that you can get 130 different types of beer, 30ish on tap.  Very similar to Yard house or Flying Saucer in KC for that type of variety.
But the food is really what keeps me coming back when I come into town.  Their Pepper Cheese Steak, Scotch Eggs, Buffalo Chicken, Nachos, and Homemade potato chips are my favorites but I have yet to have something that I didn't like.

I enjoy sitting in the beer garden with groups of friends but have also gone up there alone or just with a friend or 2 and sat at the bar and I would have to say the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers and how each of the different kinds are brewed.

This is great place to go to and a very centralized location.

We were driving around looking for some place close to eat lunch. It was awful. The food was disgusting and the place was very very run down. At least the vast variety of beer could salvage the place right? No, the beers were off temperature and they were out of one we asked. The waitress made a joke about having to keep 132 in stock, then the table behind us asked for a different kind and it was also out of stock. This place was like something out of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.

Growler's is my go-to beer destination in South County. I love the beer selection. I'll admit I have a tasting card and barely put a dent in it, but I'm sucker for trying. Some of their food is good, some is gross. I like the nachos because they tast pretty good and are huge. It seems this place is always packed, always smoky, and a little too expensive for what you get. But every beer officianado must try Growler's! The beer garden is fabulous in the summer, but be prepared to wait, especially on the weekend. Oh, and the service usually borders on crappy.

We went for their New Year's party. And they had a buffet of good food, and what made it better was that it wasn't all typical bar food.  There was chicken wings, but there were also chicken cordon blue balls and crab rangoons or something (i'm not a seafood fan so I don't remember what they were)

Our waiter was on top of everything too, even with the 2 large groups around us.  I told him that I was going to be going for different beers all night, and alternating light and dark and he stayed on top of it., only goofed once, but i had about 8-10 different beers, thats not too bad, and he goofed on the alternating light and dark, not giving me the same beer.

And at new years instead of just passing out a small glass near midnight every table got a bottle of champagne.

I had been to this place a handful of times back when I lived in St. Louis and I don't remember it being bad.  I don't remember it being good.  I remember it being there, though.  So I went back.

Holy Hell, was it awful.  When the highlight of a meal is that fact that "Don't Stop Living in the Red" by Andrew W.K. played over the PA, there is something seriously wrong with the place at which you are eating.  How the hell do you fuck up nachos?  Ask the line cooks at Growlers, they'll be happy to show you how to pour some poorly seasoned jarred salsa over a plate of coagulated cheese and soggy chips that are fresh out of a cellophane bag and then have the gaul to charge you eleven dollars.

And then there was the beer fiasco.  I attempted to order 6 beers before I landed on one they had.  Instead of telling me what they had or what they were out of the server threw a list on the table of all the beers they were out of.  Isn't this place known for having a wide beer selection?  When a place prides themselves on their beer selection and doesn't carry La Fin Du Monde or Mad Hatter I have a hard time taking them seriously.  Sorry, that was nerdy.

I could take this time to gripe about the shitty service but my dad and brother, Chip K. and Paul K. covered this one as well.  The guy was rude and inattentive and I'm just glad I wasn't paying.

Growlers Pub "Where the Drinks are Great and the Food is Even Better!" Are you kidding me?

Growlers food is pretty mediocre all around, but they generally have a decent-sized and reasonably-priced beer selection (with the draft beers available in multiple sizes).  They have a helpful little guide to the various styles of beers they offer, and their biergarten is nice in the summer.

However, on my most recent visit they were out of a LOT of beers -- the waiter had an entire list -- because they were changing their beer lineup.  I mean, they had to have been out of 20-25 different beers.  It was ridiculous.

The food (in my case, the Cuban with fries; in my wife's case, chicken nachos; and the table shared a basket of chips) was pretty much the worst I've ever had at Growlers.  Neither the Cuban nor the fries were very good; the nachos were so-so, but the salsa smothered on top was disgusting.  The chips were all right.

The waiter, in addition to being really slow, was also kind of a jerk.  When it came to bringing out bottles of beer, he would hold a couple in his hand and extend his arm over the table, barking at people to take what was theirs.  It was both unprofessional and annoying.

So, the food is somewhere between a 1 and a 2, and the beer is somewhere between a 3 and a 4.

That averages out to a 2.5; in most cases I'd round up, but the most recent experience left a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm not going to be nice.

    Beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you not love a place that this many beers available? I do, however, share the sentiment of some other reviews about the service and the cleanliness of the place, but if you're going to go drink only definitely a great place to do it. They've a good number of beers from varied places and usually have good beer specials (lovin' the Chimay - which you don't find everywhere).

Beer Hall! Yay. This is a bit of a hike from the city, so make sure to get a designated driver. There's a ton of beer on tap, including some Japanese beer and they all have the potential to come in "growlers" which are larger than life glass steins. You can get the bartender to mark off a laundry list of beer so once you complete it, you get your name on a plaque or something.
What I like is their total decadence of beer and beer food.
Try the Scotch eggs, which are whole hard-boiled eggs, encased in crumbled sausage, and deep fried. Not good for the heart, but great for the soul, especially with a tasty beer in hand.
The outdoor beer garden makes it ideal for large groups. Growler's is hoosier-iffic all around... or is that hoosier-tastic?

I've never had a bad experience here. The beer selection beats all, and their food is also yummy.

Plus, the beer garden is awesome! It's huge with plenty of seating. The landscaping and surroundings are pleasant, there's a large fountain in the middle and it's just relaxing listening to it (my friend did comment that it does kind of smell like a outdoor landscaping store, which is true). Anyway, this is just a great place to get together with a big group of people, or even to go on a date. It really works both ways.

It's also just a great place to try new beers. Yeah, it's a bit expensive if you go for the Polish import that you've never heard of, but there is a reason for that. The only bad thing is you might end up spending six or seven dollars on a beer you end up disliking. I used to have a beer club card, but I am not up to the task of trying over 130 beers!

I am being VERY kind with this three stars, because I honestly still adore their beer garden...the service however, leaves A LOT to be desired.

My last few experiences at Growlers have been enough to turn me off, at least for a good long while, from going there.  Since this used to be my regular hang out, that's a strong statement.

The air conditioning has been perpetually broken the last few times I have been there.  I think that's ridiculous in 100 degree heat personally.  Also, what happened to the service.  I got dinner here with my family, our chips were stale, and when we asked for replacements, it took 20 minutes to get them.  By that point, the dip was cold.  I know it's really important to flirt with the cute bartender and all, but seriously waitress??  Seriously???  When we got our check, she had charged us for three dishes and one drink we didn't have.  When we asked her to fix it, she gave us attitude, and then, the check was still wrong and charged us for some mystery quesadilla that no one had and she swore up and down that we had ordered.  Um....no...we didn't order that.  Seriously, it took three tries to get our bill right.

Then, went back with friends a few days later.  Still no air conditioning, they never brought my friend her salad, I am still waiting on my last beer.  The service was horrendous and my friend Mike aptly pointed out to me that the last two times we had gone there together the waiter forgot to put our orders in and we had waited 90 minutes once and and hour once for our food.  Finally, (granted this is not Growler's fault) the annoying guy next to us was blowing cigar smoke DIRECTLY onto us.  I mean, why is the bar completely smoking when half the bar stretches into non-smoking anyway???  I just don't get it.

So now, my friends and I have sworn off this place....at least till they get their act together.

It's coming up on patio season, and I have to say the Growlers' patio is pretty nice and worth checking out. (note that this is the Sunset location, not Olive) It's fairly large, so getting a table never seems to be too difficult.

The beer is overpriced, so you might as well try something exotic since you're paying a premium anyways. The beer club cards are hilarious and a great scam to have you try such exotic beers as Miller Lite, Bud Light, and Budweiser just to fill your card. It's a business card with numbers, then you drink your way to fill up the cards and get a mug or something equally as useful on your 2nd, 3rd, etc. times filling the cards. I choose to concentrate on real goals, but it's good clean fun.

The sampler beer option(it's been a while, but I think it's $8 or so for 4 - 8oz beers) is great. You get to try risker beer choices without feeling bad for wasting a less than great beer. I am forever grateful for finding a "dunkel" style beer this way. I would've been too scared to commit to a full glass of something called dunkel.

5 stars for the patio and cheaper way of sampling odd beers.

If you like beer, there is nowhere better to try new tastes than Growler's. Nothing beats sitting outside in the huge beer garden enjoying a plate of scotch eggs and trying one of the 131 types of draught beer they have all the time. In addition to the massive beer selection, Growler's features bar food from all over this country and its all pretty good. I like the po'boy and the Cuban the best.
You can also get a card to help you keep track of which of the 131 beers you've had. If you have them all, you get a pewter mug with your name on it and are officially a member of "the order of the tasters," which gives you great discounts on both food and booze.

I have the utmost respect for a place that can combine hundreds of beers, great food selection, a comfortable environment, and all-you-can-eat french fries with your meal.

When me and the friends were all still bachelors, a trip from the IL side to Growlers (admittedly, to work on filling up our frequent drinker cards) was in order at least every couple of weeks.

Nowadays, with wives and families and full-time jobs, it's a more rare occurrence.  But when someone suggests it, we all work hard to clear the calendars and make the trip.

    Well worth it.
