Needed some fried shrimp and fish for dinner on the way home and checked the Yelp recommends. Â Stopped here and bought the fried shrimp, fried fish chips, the fried perch and some fresh cod for another meal. Â It set me back $56 - but I was willing to pay it for some good seafood. Â My fish chips were really chips- hard, dark and crunchy- arrghh!! Â The perch was okay and the shrimp was ok too. Â Honestly, I would not go back! Â I have three teenage boys that never stop eating-- and they love fried shrimp and fish. Â They ate half of the shrimp and a couple pieces of fish- I threw out the fish chips. Â They hated the tartar sauce- and we dug some commercial stuff out of the fridge. Â I learned an expensive lesson. Not going back.
Review Source:I love this place for French Fried Shrimp... Hagen's has being a fixture in this Portage Park Neighborhood since 1947..I have been stopping by for almost 20 years when I am down the road getting my car repaired at Montrose Auto (a block away)...
Growing up my family had a summer cottage in South Haven, Mi, there was a similar style place called Jenson's.. Â The Fried Shrimp at Jenson's was a taste I grew up with, and Hagen's is closest thing to that I have ever found to that memory.
I'm sure other items are just as good, family owned, it's been there forever, it's all good. The oddest thing about Hagen's is the inland location, but I'm not complaining.
