Consistently inconsistent. When I firs moved to MI about a year ago, I ordered from Han's and it was great. I wondered why the place wasn't packed with customers. Now I get it, the food quality is super inconsistent and you only have about a 50/50 chance of good food. Â I am a sucker for the old American almond fried chicken and order it often. When they get it right it's perfect. Sometimes though it's overcooked to the point of inedible or super greasy and soggy. Â Same with everything I have had on the menu. Â The only reason i keep going back is because I don't have to leave the island and when it's good it is super. Kind of like a bad relationship. I'm not ready to give up yet because I keep hoping they will pull it together
Review Source:I was looking for something quick to eat and takeout! Â I was in a Chinese food kind of mood but only looking for fried rice and nothing else.
This place hit the spot, nothing special about the fried rice, except you get quite a bit for takeout. I don't eat much meat so I ordered the veggie fried rice and the only thing I did not like were the mushrooms in the rice.  Hmmmm..fried rice and mushrooms just didn't do it for me and maybe that is because I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms to begin with.  I would go back if  I was strapped for time!
Food was okay. Â I can't believe they use Styrofoam for leftovers and take out. Â I think the place is way overpriced for the quality. Â I can get way better food for a better price in Seattle or Portland. Â Perhaps your options on Mercer Island are limited.
Did I mention they use Styrofoam for leftovers and take out? Â I thought that was banned a decade ago in major cities. Â For that one reason alone, I doubt I'll ever go back.
A tofu dish, vegetarian fried rice, dry sauté string beans, and a fried wonton/cream cheese plus 3 cups of soup was $50.
I came here with a group of friends a while back and we all ordered a dish and shared. There were 7 of us and we split the bill and paid $15 each. Keep in mind rice cost extra and is seperate, they have brown rice along with white. My favorite dishes were the General Tsaos Chicken along with the Honey Walnut Shrimp. Good service, and not terribly expensive either. If I lived on the Island, this would be my go to take out place.
Review Source:My boss took me here today for lunch. I went in thinking meh just another Chinese eatery, however i was pleasantly surprised.
the menu had about 30+ items on it for lunch ranging from 6.95-8.95. Everything comes with either hot and sour soup or egg drop soup.
AND!
White rice or bbq pork fried rice
AND!
Tea and water hahaha
I went for the ever so adventurous general tso chicken it was good a nice mild sticky sweet sauce coated the perfectly friend pieces of chicken. The fried rice was okay a little oily and not a whole lot of flavor but over all not bad
I will come back and try out some other things when i crave chinese food in another 4 months.
I liked this place. I went for a drive to The Island for kicks and came by here after Walgreens. Inside you definitely feel like "Mercer Island." Warm, rather elegant for a chinese restaurant and relaxing music. The tables have thick wooden designs and bases, nice wallpaper mural a la Europe countryside and fireplace(?) in the back. There's a separate section that I believe can be used for private parties + the bar.
Service was wonderful. She sort of resembled a China doll, which was great! ;) But srsly, she was totes friendly and sharp as a tack.
I went for the Eggplant Special dish (just meat) and I LOVE soft & tender eggplant. It's so stupidly good. + Brown rice and won ton soup. The rice is the awesome purple-y stuff. Nice soup.
The one thing odd about this place is that when you go in the dining room and then you go into [atleast] the men's room, you might raise an eyebrow. o.0 "Is this the same place?"
I've learned a few things about Mercer Island. One of these is that there's a dearth of delivery options when you're on the island... one of the biggest drawbacks of not living in Seattle.
This place offers decent Americanised Chinese food. I've easily had better and considering the ID's proximity, I'd suggest heading west for your foods.
All that said, if you have no choice and this is your option, there are some good dishes. Peruse my photographs if you'd like the recommendations.
i've had food from han's garden dozens of times over the years, and have never been disappointed. Â we always get the mongolian beef and shrimp fried rice and they are so delicious, i crave them pretty regularly. Â i've never eaten in the restaurant, always gotten the food to go. Â their to-go portions are quite generous. Â highly recommended!
Review Source:Meh, is the best I can say, unfortunately. Â
To be positive, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. Â However, that's where it all ends. As others have stated, the restaurant is a very confusing Tuscan atmosphere although the feet of some tables have the lion's paw. It just feels off.
Our food was uninspired - handshaven noodles with chicken was bland and without flavor as was the hot and sour soup. Â I don't mind adding a little chili and soy but these dishes required a ton. Â On the flip side, Â the Mongolian beef was too sweet. Â I suppose if you have a sweet tooth, this would definitely be the dish to order.
So, meh it is.
Why oh why...
I must admit, Americanized Chinese food can be made well. Â Just look at Panda Express. Â On the other hand, it can easily be messed up. Â Han's Garden is the perfect example of being MESSED UP. Â
I came here for homecoming dinner with my huge group. Â We were able to get a private room in the restaurant, which was nice. Â Also, our server was super friendly. Â The positive comments stop there.
Each table decided to order and eat family style, the correct choice. Â My table ended up ordering the following: kung pao chicken, chicken fried rice, Hong Kong styled noodles (where the noodles are fried and a whole bunch of stuff and sauce is laddled all over the top), and Mongolian beef. Â
I'm not the biggest fan of kung pao chicken, so this dish was the least appetizing. Â The chicken was overly breaded and fried to the point where it was almost too difficult to eat. Â On top of that, the sauce was just sad. Â Too salty, goopy, and messy, skip! Â
The fried rice was even sadder, though it was colorful and pretty...the taste, lacking. Â The rice wasn't cooked how it should be. Â The vegetables were mushy, and so was the chicken? Â It wasn't salty enough either. Â
The Hong Kong style pan fried noodles however were decent. Â I liked the crispiness of the noodles, and the sauce made some of the noodles soft. Â I heard that you can request for extra crunchy noodles. Â The contents of what is laddled above the noodles are plentiful. Â Lots of vegetables, meats, and seafood. Â The sauce is just all over the noodles, and pretty addicting. Â I think it'd taste pretty good drizzled over rice. Â
The Mongolian beef was nothing out of the ordinary. Â Meh. Â I've had better, YEA'S WOK.
Like nearly all Chinese restaurants, we were given  fortune cookies.  I do not like fortune cookies.  They're not even Asian!  I do like reading what my fortune is though. (;  After leaving the restaurant, thankfully, we stopped by Baskin Robbins for ice cream.  I was still hungry!
A couple months after the interesting experience, I wanted to come back here to give it another shot. Â My parents and I came here on a rainy Seattle day for lunch.
I recommended the Hong Kong style pan fried noodles. Â We also ordered beef with broccoli, and sauteed vegetables with bean curd. Â The Hong Kong style pan fried noodles were just as good as last time. Â The beef with garlic sauce was like the General Tso's chicken, globs and globs of sticky sauce smothered over pieces of bad meat. Â The vegetables with bean curd was nothing special, but not unedible.
I came here yet again with a friend. Â Originally, we had planned to eat at Pon Proem (I can't even explain how much better of a choice that is), but they were closed! Â Onto food...he ordered the Hong Kong style pan friend noodles, while I got the broccoli beef. Â I tried some of this noodles, pretty decent. Â My broccoli beef was actually better than the last time I ate here with my parents. Â The beef was tender and I liked the broccoli. Â
If I do get pulled back here, I'll be trying their scallion pancakes, basil shrimp, house special sizzling lamb, eggplant with garlic sauce, and mu shu pork. Â Hopefully, that will not be the case.
Stuck living on Mercer Island, our usual recourse is to high tail off island for decent food - but Lo and Behold! There's downright decent Chinese food to be had!
Love the house fried rice (I just tell them to hold the peas and carrots 'cause hey - what the heck are they doing in the rice anyway?) and they have several yumy vegetarian selections.
Their lunch specials are extremely generous and reasonably priced.
The service is friendly and actually pretty quick. If you go between 4:30 - 6pm you'll get an eyeful of the early bird diners which makes for interesting people watching.
This has been my favorite chinese restaurant for the last 7 years. Â I actually moved to San Francisco 5 years ago and fully expected to find a new chinese restaurant (and there are *many*) in san francisco that would replace my old fave. Â Never happened. Â Everytime i visit seattle, this is my first stop. Â Dishes that keep me coming back: Â Hot and Sour soup (more on the sour side, just the way i like it), Shanghai noodles, General Tso's chicken and the Salt & Pepper Calamari.
Review Source:Lots of people really like this place, including my family and friends.
I've been here probably 6 or 7 times, never been incredibly impressed, but not really disappointed, either.
But the last time I was here, I had the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant. I can't even describe it. And I am the least picky eater I know. It was as if they hadn't changed the fry oil in 3 days, and that they had re-fried all their cold leftovers. Â Disgusting, old, and frighteningly greasy. I didn't understand. I was too shocked at how gross it was to complain.
Mongolian Lamb? Â Yes, you heard correctly, Han's has Mongolian Lamb!
I'm finding more and more that Mercer Island is a convenient place to pick up things on the way home to Seattle in the evening. Â Dinner is no exception, and I stopped here tonight for take-out after going to the gym.
I was a bit confused when I entered because to the left of the foyer there was a woman sitting at a big fancy desk. Â For a moment, I thought I had entered a hotel or a salon, but no, this really was the restaurant. Â She cheerfully took my order.
Soo...I can tell you that the Mongolian Lamb at home was as good as it smelled in the Honda. Â Lots and lots of sweet lamb with a few green onions, red chili peppers and a delicious sauce.
I also picked up the Vegeterian eggrolls. Â Also very good! They had just the lightest hint of horseradish, but enough to give some nice zest.
I will definitely come back here to have a sit-down supper with JP in their Tuscany-furnitured dining room. Â OK, OK, I know Tuscany is a little dated, but the interior with its dark rich colors is still very appealing.
I saw a curious scene while here. Â This lady, maybe 55 years old, clad in jeans but who had had obvious facial "rejuvenation" work came in and paced around in the entry for a while. Â A hostess came around the corner and asked the lady if she was here for dinner. Â The lady, with a furious chop of her hand, cut the hostess off mid-sentence and in a scolding whisper indicated that she was taking a call. Â The hostess just turned around and walked the other way. Â Funny thing, the lady in jeans wasn't on her cell phone. Â A few seconds later the lady sighed loudly and left the restaurant. Â Alrighty then!
Han's Garden is surprisingly good, given its location on Mercer Island. Â I don't know about you, but I just never really think of Mercer Island when I want to get some good food. Â Not that it doesn't happen there...but anyways..
My parents introduced me to Han's, and at first I have to say I was skeptical. Â Upon entering, the entire place reminded me of a renovated Italian restaurant--with the "night sky" looking ceiling, and the random greenery and columns. Â Everything was decorated very interestingly, and wasn't at all reminiscent of the typical Chinese restaurant setup. Â
But then I got to the menu. Â They offer Kim Chee Fried Rice? Â I want it now! Â Salt and Pepper Pork, Garlic Pea Vine, Honey Walnut Prawns, Spicy Eggplant...omg. Â We had so much food I almost couldn't keep myself seated. Â I was constantly up and reaching over people because it was so delicious and I wanted seconds (how's that for manners?!). Â Since then, I've been back several times and have never been disappointed. Â In addition to the good food, the owner is very friendly and has a friendly staff working with him. Â I'd recommend it to anyone, and have, several times.
so my housemates friend suggested this place for dinner last night. Â and i figure, since she's 1/4 manturirian (don't hate, it's a running house joke... and true) i figure she knows what's what. Â the fact that she's a native to the area helps. Â so we stroll in at close to 9, and the hostess was super nice and chearful. Â the place looked clean. Â and hey, it was open on mercer island at close to 9, a feat in and of itself.
i got the hand shaved noodles with bbq pork and my boy got the cashew chicken. Â really solid chicken, holly crap good noodles. Â all chewy and dumplin-like. Â the pork was tender but could have used more bbq flavor i thought. Â not the best chinese i've had, but close to home and reasonably good.
This rundown looking Chinese restaurant on Mercer Island must have been there for awhile since million dollar condos are springing up all around it. When I pulled up and noticed the HUGE lit colored pictures of dishes in the windows I thought, "You've got to be kidding." (-*)
The food was ok. Don't order the peppered fried chicken. It's like a saltlick with bones (-*). The Mongolian beef and seafood bowl was ok.
This place was horrible. I really wish that I could give it less than one star, for freaking ruining my life this last day or so. I just started a new opportunity at work, and today was supposed to be my first day of work. Well, rewind to last night when my ever so thoughtful boyfriend suggested picking up chinese food on mercer island because he would be there anyway and we both were not in a cooking mood. I got the lemon chicken, and just typing those words, almost makes me run back into the bathroom. You see when I tasted it, it was alright, nothing spectacticular, but my boyfriend had had a long day/night, and I ate it pleasantly. however at 12:30 am, and mind you my new job opportunity starts at 5 in renton, so this was not so far before I needed to wake up. I found myself violently ill, and was probably more sick then I've ever been, or at least more sick then I have been in a long time. I felt like I was dying, and still feel gross. I cannot keep food down, and had to call in to work. Thanks a lot Han's garden. Thanks for making me sick to my stomach. Thanks for ruining my first day of work. THanks for making it so that I cannot keep any food down, and will be not able to enjoy my boyfriend's big 25th birthday celebration. Y ou Suck! Please don't go here, unless you want to be violently ill!
