Denver staple. Â I used to play there in my band all the time from I'd say 2001-2007. Â At one point, I even worked there for Mike and Allan until somehow I ended up as their competition. Â Herman's has great sound and is still one of the funnest places to play or bands wouldn't keep doing it.
Review Source:One of the old standbys for live music in this city, I've been coming to Herman's for years, with the exception of the last 4-5 where I've been on something of a hiatus from it. Â Herman's always has great local bands, when we were in our post college days we were here every Friday night. Â Last weekend we were cruising looking for a show and they had a Battle of the Bands happening. Â
I like the layout of the place, it's open and roomy and there's a big dance floor. Â the sound quality is decent but not superb, and I love the neighborhood.
My main gripes are the parking (there isn't any, and the neighborhood isn't terribly friendly for this), the draft beer list is minimal and not very tempting, and the bar is small, it gets overly crowded quickly making it tough to get a drink. Â Also, it just seems dingy, run down, and dirty. Â It isn't the best place for music when I think of all my usual haunts, but it's not the worst either.
Not sure if I like or dislike this place.
The set up is alright, the ladies bathroom is good, and they have a large water jug available. They cater to local acts and have a fun fire in the smoking area. The sound quality is good and they have a lot of tables and a dance floor. They often have deals for the cover, but still.......
The drinks are overpriced and the vibe is off-putting. One bartender pours watered down b.s. and the other pours em so stiff you feel poisoned. Note to self - drink those PBR tall boys like everyone else, they do it for a reason.
They give some personality to this stretch of south Broadway, but I will only go here when supporting a band that deserves a crowd and a loud mouth like myself.
This place is def. a dive... don't come for good conversation: you won't be able to hear anyone. Â Don't come for good beer (at least not from the tap): it's flat and nasty. Â And don't come for a specific drink (we ordered whiskey & coke, got rum and coke, ordered three singles, got two singles and a double... charged for what they wanted to serve us and not what we asked for) Â But the drinks were strong... so... I guess they have that going? Â And I didn't see any bathroom stalls lacking in the TP department, so that's another plus, I guess?
Review Source:This is a great bar/ concert Venue! Good times and cheap drinks. They support local bands a lot. Pbr tall boys for 5 bones. They do need more than one waitress though. This is why 4 stars. The staff is very nice and courteous. All in all its a fun place and the patrons get along. I've been here tons of times and a fight has never broke out.
Review Source:Herman's Hideaway. Where to begin? Well, how about we start with how to get there? For some reason, I always space out where this place is on South South Broadway (which is the official name of that neighborhood, by the way), despite its marquis and lighted sign. The construction doesn't really make it any easier.
But once I find the place, I usually walk in and think, "Man, am I glad I didn't have to pay a cover." Yeah, I've never been here without being on some sort of guestlist or with comp ticket in hand. And I never will. This venue just isn't worth me paying money to get in.
The place feels like it was designed to be more of a huge bar, and, oh by the way, we have a stage, than it an actual music venue. The bar serves your standard dive drinks at above dive bar prices. The bartenders are actually pretty fast and nice people, so that's a plus.
This place just doesn't "work" for me though. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly. It's not a dive bar, because it's to big and open for that. It's not a great concert venue because, well, I dunno, it just doesn't feel like it's laid out right. Or maybe it's because whenever I go there, it feels like half the bar is ignoring the musical performance and just going about their business like it was a bar and not a music venue.
Each to their own, I guess, and this is definitely not my favorite place to go see a band play.
It had been 9 years since I'd been to Herman's and it hasn't changed much, if at all. Â Still pretty cool. Â I like that there is a lot of seating here, not just an open floor like other music venues around town. There are also tables along the parameter that fit large groups. Â The dance floor is comfortable, fits many, and allows for room to dance still. Â You can get a bucket of domestic beer for $16, not bad, but the choices aren't so great-Bud Lite, Coors Lite, Rolling Rock. We were wondering if you can get a bucket of PBR tall boys! Shots are kind of expensive but they were huge. Â The service at the bar and from the cocktail waitress was super slow, but who's in a rush anyway when you're out to see a band.
Herman's hosts many local bands and the crowds are quite interesting. Â The night we went there were 3 or 4 bands on the bill, each very different, making people watching pretty entertaining and very colorful, as well as the bands. Â Cover charges aren't bad, and you can pick up tickets that are half off around at local businesses.
Herman's Hidaway a nice Dive!!!
We came here several weeks ago to the Comics of Denver show. Great show and loved the atmosphere like everyone knew each other. There was only a few times that customers got outta hand, but they were quickly thrown out. The beer on tap was disappointing as they only had bud & bud light, so you won't find a miro-brew wonderland here it's just bud, or go home. That's okay I also asked if they had "Chilada" in bottle can etc. they bartender said nope...thus this place is pretty much a dive. A place to go to get a cold bud, then see the local attraction, then go home.
Herman's is a Dive in a nice kinda way!
It's a good joint to check out some local talent, and by talent I mean musical talent. Â As mentioned previously, cheap 24 oz PBRs, good and friendly bartenders, and good smaller spot to check out the live music. Â There's no stadium seating or anything like that, just some tables and booths spread out behind the "dance floor."
Review Source:Been here a couple of times to watch a friend's band. Â It gets very loud...but I guess you would expect that. Â
Bartenders are always quick to get you your drinks. Â They have tall 24 oz. PBRs that they sell for super cheap! Â I can't remember exactly how much. Â Was it $2.50? Â or maybe $5.50? Â Yikes...I guess I had too many of them to remember. Â LOL!!
There is a small dancefloor where you can get your groove on or you can sit at one of the many tables and booths throughout the place. Â I like that the back and left sides of the bar are raised so you are sitting a bit higher than the people in front of you. Â You are able to see the band from anywhere you sit/stand.
We came to Herman's Hideaway to see a friend's friend DJ and had no clue what to expect. Â The bar itself is nothing special and definitely out on the outskirts. Â It emits a bit of the dive bar vibe, but strangely the clientele seemed all over the board from the very young and angsty to the very old and waspy. Â
If you are into live local music than this is your scene. Â I don't consider myself a big music buff, but I found it fun. Â There's a dance floor which allowed me to get my groove on. Â Yet while I had fun, I can't see myself just going there without a specific group to see.
Herman's isn't a terrible place to visit. Pretty easy to deal with the bar, good sightlines to the stage, people who work there generally know what they are doing, etc. What gets me is the drama that plays out every night with the fledging little bands. The saps are pressured to drag in as many friends as possible with the possibility of a future gig hanging on the attendance, the little band earnestly "plays" the only 5 songs they know but have practiced a million times in their garage. Then they get $50 and a CD of their tedious performance to upload onto youtube. Then there is the painful process of waiting between the band set-ups. Trust me, fledging musicians, no pro player would ever set foot on that stage. Just learn 35 songs and go get a real gig, it's as easy as that. Then go back to Herman's with a superior attitude like me!
Review Source:Death metal night! It might be that genre every night, not sure. Great if you like the hair band, screaming stuff. I went to support a friend and his band, who didn't come on until midnight. Wait staff either didn't hear me or completely blew me off, not sure which. Kind of rough place, but I think that's to be expected.
Review Source:If you dig live, local bands and $5 PBR Tall Boys, this is the spot for you! A friend's band played here this weekend and we came out to support. Tickets are cheap and you can get actual seating if you get there early. The place definitely starts to get packed starting at about 9pm. This is a good spot, we definitely had some fun, the crowd is pretty laid back. There wasn't anything that really made me think, "I gotta come back to Herman's", but if the occasion arises to return, I probably would.
Review Source:This place is off the beaten path, but worth a trip if you're interested in a featured band or just want to hear a band. It's a pretty large venue for hosting local musicians, with lots of seating and a decent size dance floor. The spatial arrangement makes it so that every seat is a good seat, if you're sitting down, and the acoustics are nice. It's an eclectic crowd.
Review Source:Tall doorman with the long hair is on a big power trip. Â I am a mature woman who is a light drinker & I am not someone who has ever made problems or drama anywhere. Â He is unnecessarily mean and brutish to the talent and the patrons. Â I might understand this sort of behavior if it was busy in there, but there were, like twelve people in the whole bar. Â He got in my face when I came in through the band entrance, (like I've been instructed to do in the past,) and while I was leaving, he ripped a water bottle out of my hand and physically hurt me, (I forgot that I was carrying it around.) Â I perform here often and will not invite any of my friends and family to attend unless they get rid of him.
Review Source:I dig any venue that supports local music: giving new talent a platform to belt out their own tunes is a must in Denver. Â And we know Denver's local music scene has proven itself in more ways than one within the last few years.
Although I've only found myself at Herman's to cheer on friends' bands, I can see myself coming back if I'm in the mood for some live music. Â I dig the small stage, clusters of tables, and intimate dance floor. Â Granted you'd have to get a few beers in me to get me on that dance floor...
Like I said, I can't argue with supporting local musicians. Â I'll be back to visit Herman's, hopefully sooner rather than later!
I only go to Herman's if absolutely necessary = my brother in law's band is playing and we have free tickets.
There's nothing necessarily bad about the venue itself. It has a large stage, an ok sound system, tables, and alcohol. I've just never had luck with the type of crowd that goes there. The words "tools" and "asshats" come to mind to describe not all, but a great deal of the people there.
Our waitress was really good considering we went on a busy night. She was speedy and very friendly. I would say she earned this place an extra star from me.
This place has good local shows, great acoustics, decent tables, punk-rock bathrooms, and great beer on tap. Â Every time I go in there it is with the nicest of ladies. Â
They currently have Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale on tap, and it's the only beer known to increase your invisibility cloak by 30%, give you 5 immortality tokens, and 46 health.
I grew up in Denver and although Herman's was always a dump, it was worth going if the band was good. Recently they have installed one of those ticker things that people can text messages to with their phones and their messages will be displayed. So basically, any lame-a*s, who doesn't have the balls to express his thoughts with his face showing can be a total jerk anonymously... the screen is where you can't ignore it. I would expect such a pathetic type of activity at a really lowlife sports bar or Hooter's, but at a live music venue? Ugh, I think not
I will NEVER go to Herman's again and I will strongly suggest to any and all touring bands that I know not to play there...unless of course they get rid of that as* ho*e machine.
I would never go to Herman's to simply go there, but there is the occasional band that is worth venturing in for. The drinks are weak and the bar service slow. There's something about the layout that bugs me. It seems like a movie set for a bar and not a bar or a venue. If a fight broke out and someone threw someone over the bar and all the bottles fell down on their head, I don't think anyone would even blink.
Review Source:The staff is very friendly but flighty sometimes... as with every bar. What do you expect when the place is packed every weekend? So this review has nothing to do with the bar because IT'S A VENUE. The live sound is absolutely amazing and they have recently improved their sound system. This is more of a hard rock venue although I have caught some indie, alternative and other genres play there... In fact, my band has played there and they took great care of us. If you are interested in Herman's, do your self a favor and just GO!!!
Review Source:Herman's is comfortable to everyone. Â From goth, to biker, to grandparent, there was a great mix of people in the house for the Friday night concert. Â Get into you best comfy jeans, grab a table or a spot on the floor in front of the stage, and order a drink (if you got the dough) and enjoy the tunage. Â We were at Herman's to catch LTU. Â Though the singer had lost his voice they still rocked with some heavy rock/metal. Â
The grandma in the back was bopping her head to the beat and the yelling. Â 'Nuff said.
I happen to love Herman's. It's an awesome place to see live music, and I don't have to do more preparation than putting on a clean shirt and running a comb through my hair to to be cute enough to fit in with the crowd.
I hadn't been to Herman's for quite a while until Friday night. The place was hopping, and the headlining band was kick-ass. Drinks can be a little expensive, but luckily one of the bartenders was drunk enough to forget to charge me for one round of shots. Woo!
The layout goes stage -- dance floor-- tables-- bar/bathrooms. There are actually two bars, and the cocktail waitresses do a good job of circulating often.
Herman's is a sweet venue. The only thing I don't like about it is cruising around the neighborhood looking for a parking spot. Go there if you love loud rock music!
I love the sound system here and the shows I've seen are good and all that, BUT the drinks are ridiculously expensive and the bartenders are complete idiots/drunks. The four times I've been to Herman's there's always been a mess-up on the bartenders part, whether it be they threw away my drink because i walked away to the restroom or they overcharged me or my friends it always happens...I recommend not going there for the drinks or the bar but for the liver
