Nice bartenders, limited but pretty good pub grub, pleasant atmosphere. Good beer selections. Private parking lot is a plus.

I've been here three times. Once it was a quiet Sunday and the bartender was attentive and quick. There are lots of great craft beers on draft and they're reasonably priced ($5-$7). They also have some great small dishes.

I also visited with a friend one night when The York was a zoo. Not Hermosillo. The service was solid and there were a handful of vegan options. The kale salad is great and I'm usually a french fries guy.

It's also a little more mature than York, which is mostly 20-something.

Ok, maybe one star is harsh, but it's based on the service i received, from the owner. So i go there last night with a coworker and sit at the bar, he orders a beer, i ask the bartender/owner since i don't drink alcohol or soda, if they have anything non-alcoholic/carbonated  and he barks at me "you're at a bar, we only serve beer/wine" and i ask if they have anything like oj/cranberry juice/etc. and his response was "what did i just tell you, you're in a bar we have soda" wow....douchebag

Visiting from SF and super excited to see a real beer bar in Highland Park. I had a killer sour beer that I think was made locally. Friendly, knowledgable staff. Not sure what else to say other than craft beer experience at it's finest!

I don't have a lot to add about this place, except to say that I love it!

It's unpretentious; serves an ever-changing and delightful array of craft beers; and provides a relaxed, laid-back environment in which to drink them. What more do you need?

I give it stars for days.

Made two visits to this place.  While better the second time, I do not see worthiness in the fawning praise of this 'craft' beer bar.  Esoteric taps - sure - but most were not my style (flavored stouts, sour, double IPA served in small glasses).  Would have preferred west coast pales, single IPA, XPA, etc.  I did not inquire about the wine.  $6-8 seems high for beers like Dale's Pale; you can get equally quality brews at Johnny's and the York for $5.

On the plus side, there was decent rock n roll music piping throughout the venue, and the shuffleboard table provided a few minutes of diversion.  Not opposed to the Hermosillo, but not a destination I would select.

I looooove this bar! I wouldn't have known about it, had a friend not discovered it in her new neighborhood and invited me. It's in the middle of hipster bar town, but it's refreshingly diverse, un-trendy, and comfortable. Not too hard to get a table, the perfect level of dim-ness, and a crowd consisting of just about anyone you'd find in a good cross-section of LA.

No hard liquor, just a handful of interesting wines and beers, shown to you by an old-school projector. I wish I had markers and something to trace. The beers are priced at around $7. The coffee/chipotle stout was milder than I thought it would be, but just ok. I REALLY liked "The Feminist" beer. I wish I had stayed long enough to try others, but there were many interesting choices.

There is also food. The fried pickles were so good (and put the ones at Slater's to shame, I hate to say) that we ordered a second basket.

And it has a PARKING lot! Really!

Loved this place. My husband and I wanted to go out for dinner, but nothing fancy. I found this place online and it was perfect.  We made a meal out of the delicious fried brussel sprouts, the sausage sandwich and what I call frito chili pie. All of them were delicious. The craft beers on tap were awesome as well. Laid back, chill atmosphere and very friendly staff.  Will definitely go again.

It's true, Highland Park is awesome.  People who grew up here may be weary of newcomers, but then people will always be on the move, ever in search of a better life.  Sometimes you get lucky, and find a place like Highland Park, where you can skate down to The Hermosillo and have one of their draft beers they're always changing up with interesting choices.  The old classroom-style transparency projector for the beer card is a nice touch.  Their selections cover the gamut of beer types, and they taste as though they were carefully considered by their own bartenders--who as it happens--have always been exceedingly courteous with me.  Windows facing the street are kept wide open most evenings, so that the place feels open and unrestrictive.  There's a whole wine selection as well, which I can't comment on, because I've always stuck to the beers, but the ladies look right at home, sipping from wine glasses and carrying on flirtations.  Though this place is becoming more and more popular, and gets crowded on weekends, I've never had to wait very long to be served, or to find a place to sit with friends.

It doesn't get a whole lot better than this as a neighborhood bar where I can meet with a buddy and catch up on what's what.

I don't spend much time on this side of town but some friends from the East side wanted to check it out while I was over there. The ambiance is really cool. (I'm a sucker for a high-gloss bartop). The bar has some cool angles to it that makes for fun people watching and good conversation areas. If you're lucky you can snag one of the cool booths with Mexican movie posters above.

I'm getting more and more into beer and the staff knows their stuff. I was guided to a nice brew by North Coast. The selection is not overwhelming but seems balanced and caters to the beer lover.

My friends and I had a really cool time here. Got to talking to a couple from Chicago who loved it. (They wanted a place like this in the Windy city!) Not only will I be back next time i'm on this side of town but I also have a couch to crash on when I'm in Chicago!

The Hermosillo is a great little laid back hideaway.  My favorite time to go is early in the evening for a nice quiet happy hour.  There always are new wines to try and the atmosphere is very cool and friendly.  If you haven't tried the bites they've started offering, you're missing out!  The fried pickles and pork buns won't leave you disappointed.

I finally got a night off from being a mommy and wanted a nice cold beer and some yummy bar food with my girls and I got that plus more!  This is an awesome bar, fun bartender and a great beer selection.  I had so much fun and am for sure coming back. If you want to have a nice cold beer good food and a dive feel this is the place to go.

They have about 12-14 beer selections.  The staff is very friendly and attentive to their customers. Prices range from $6-$8.  They have a small food menu.  Mostly appetizers.

The noise level does not get too loud and it's easy to have a conversation with your friends.  Booths, tables and bars provide a wide range of seating options.

They have a shuffle board table and a ring & hook game to pass the time and get a little competitive.

I come here when I am in the Eagle Rock area to hang out with friends.  It is low-key and unassuming.

Fantastic service for delicious food and drinks that go above and beyond the normal bar fare.

I was wracked with indecision with so many beers to choose from, but the bartender was super-nice and patient, and helped me pick a new one each round based on my tastes. And they were all great! They do an excellent job curating their craft brews here. And I hear they switch em out, so I'm excited to go back and try new ones.

I had the pork buns and crispy brussels sprouts this time around (recommend both!) but I plan to try everything on the menu eventually :)

I went on a Tuesday so it was a pretty relaxed, friendly crowd, which is my favorite. They said it gets busier on the weekends--so keep that in mind if it's your preference.

All in all it was a really cool spot with awesome staff and a tasty menu. What more could you ask for?

I absolutely LOVE this place. The staff are extremely nice and they pour the drinks strong! And at a decent price. I like coming here after working all day and being to "let my hair down." (My hair's not that long, but you see what I am getting at.)
Lot's of craft beers on tap and can we talk about the bar food?!?! It is to die for. They owner/bartender Michael took time out of his shift to come over and make sure everything was alright and if we needed anything. We ended up talking to him for a few minutes. He was a super sweet guy. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone if you are in the area. It's pretty awesome.

With a wonderful selection of beers, tasty food and super chill staff, the Herm is a shining star in the trendy Highland Park area. For small groups or a just a quick stop after work, the personalized attention you get can't be beat.

After 18 holes of nighttime golf at the Arroyo Seco Par 3, there is nothing I love more than knocking off the dirt from my shoes and drowning my golf-sorrows at the Hermosillo.

I really like the vibe at "The Herm."  They have a really great beer selection and also tons of great wines!  (Someday I should get me one of them glasses o' wine.)  I started coming to The Herm shortly after they opened and I'm so happy that they've added some foods; If you've never had a fried pickle, you need to stop what you're doing and get to The Hermosillo NOW.  (Pairs nicely with a hoppy IPA.)

If you love bars, you'll love this place.

Can't say enough about this place. Great, I repeat, great beer selection. Cool atmosphere, and we loved the food. If you are looking for a fun night out with reasonable pricing, this is your place.

The place smells like mold and urine. The food looks and tastes like it has been deep fired in used car oil. I'm not a drinker, so I imagine most people love this place because of the drink selection. The place is not for me.

Great little hole in wall joint, to get your drink on with some buddies,
after a hard days work. Or, a retro savvy place to check out old-school projectors used as drink menus, all the while playing a funky "ring-toss" game in the
rear of the bar. Either way, quality beer.  Enjoy

This place is RACIST I came with a group of 18 Latinos. Since it was a large group we decide to put some of our tables together. Well Bartender Michael decided he would have none of that!! Broke up our tables and said we had to sit decently!! He said he wasnt asking he was telling us.
    NOT LATINO FRIENDLY

I really enjoyed the laid back vibe of Hermosillo. Check out the wall for their list of beers on tap. They also have a considerable selection of wines if you're not into beer like me. I adored the Spanish Tempranillo and the Cali Petite Syrah I had that night. My girlfriends got some food to nibble on with our drinks. The pimento cheese on the cheese plate was rockin' and I loved that the sausage was served on a pretzel roll. The roasted brussell sprouts were also a winner, perfectly charred and very addictive. By the time we left that evening, this place was slammed with a swarm of people looking for some Saturday night fun. The Hermosillo is definitely worth a visit if you're in the Highland Park area.

The first thing I noticed as I walked in was an old school transparency projector being used to display their draft options on the wall. I didn't know people still used them considering the last time I saw one was in elementary school in the 90s. This is a chill place to hang out and unwind with a good beer.
    Bar:
The Hermosillo only serves select beers on tap and wine. The prices are fair.
    Crowd:
Hipsters from around the area (Highland Park, Echo Park, Eagle Rock, and Silverlake)

To keep yourself entertained, there's shuffleboard and some interesting string and hook game in the back. I guess darts and pool tables are too mainstream for a place like this.

Had my first experience at "The Herm" this weekend. Talk about a hidden gem. To sum it up in a few bullet points:

*Very cool (and open) film noir feeling atmosphere/décor.
*The owners, Ross & Michael, some of the friendliest bar owners I've met. Great interaction to all of their customers.
*AMAZING craft beer selection (only place in California I've ever seen Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout on tap amongst other great beers)
*DELICIOUS bar snacks (I recommend the friend pickles or brussels sprouts...and I normally HATE brussels sprouts)
    *Very chill and friendly crowd.

I think I found my new go to neighborhood bar. Please pop in and show these guys some support and try to prove me wrong on the above statements.

A great spot. Enjoy the casual atmosphere while it lasts, because I can see this place getting more and more packed as word gets out. A horseshoe bar, along with some tables and a few booths, make this a great place to meet some friends, sit back, and enjoy yourself over a pint in a relaxed (ie not loud) but social environment.

Just another place that's a part of LA's craft beer renaissance of the past few years. An always unique tap list, you'll find some brews here from breweries such as New Belgium and Deschutes. The selection is not vast, unfortunately, but the quality is there.

I haven't tried the food yet, but it seems to be standard bar fare. If it's good, that's just the cherry on top - good beer/wine and a good atmosphere are enough to get me to come back.

Awesome bar in the Highland Park/Eagle Rock area.  Since moving to LA recently, I've been looking for a quality yet low key chill place to hang out and this fits the bill.
They have a great rotating beer selection of local or craft beers and I always end up trying something new and delicious.
Love the food they have started serving recently.  The frito pie and the sausage are not be missed but I think my fav is the *deep fried* brussel sprouts- TO DIE FOR!  They also have a lovely kale salad for the herbivore in your group.
All in all a solid place to hang out anytime with anyone.  Has started getting really busy on the weekends- the word about this gem is out!

The Herm is by far my favorite go-to spot for a good drink, a delicious snack and a friendly face.

The guys that run this place have done a superb job. They came and turned a sketchy paisa bar into a relaxed and wonderful place to gather for drinks with friends.

Recently they added a fantastic food menu that pairs their wine and beer selection beautifully. My personal favorites are the fried pickles and the pork sliders, although I have literally tried everything on the menu and I love it all. They even serve Vegan Chili! They have something for everyone.

One of the things I love most about this place is the constantly morphing beer and wine selection. They post all their new brews on their Facebook page. It's fun and since I love to try new things, it keeps me interested and coming back for more.

Easily my new favorite bar and not just because it's within walking distance. It's spacious which means you're never packed in a tiny space. You can actually move about comfortably and have a conversation, as opposed to attempting to shout over the music and crowd.

They have a shuffle puck table now, one of the first on the east side, in addition to the ring game.

The food, which they recently added is also excellent. I would enthusiastically recommend the brussel sprouts, which are terrific.

Went on a Friday night with a friend. I was surprised when I walked in as it was awfully quiet for a Friday night. There were literally 4 other people there. Nonetheless, I enjoyed a fine glass of wine. This is not the kind of spot where you get wasted, it's the bar you start off with. It's the kind of place that's perfect to wind down and catch up with friends. I like that there wasn't a pretentious feel to the bar. After reading other reviews I was a little skeptical.  I don't know if the bartenders have worked on their customer service skills or if I just went in on a good night because the bartender was friendly enough on this night.

I really liked this bar. Serves wine and beer only, but I tend to only be interested in the later. Using a projector, this place has a very excellent, tailored craft beer list. I've been around, beer wise, and there were some I've never tried, so that is always exciting for me! The decor and vibe is awesome as well. Their small menu looked impressive as well, brussel sprouts, spreadable cheese plate, a Fritos creation. Very cool. I played shuffle board for the first time, and ended up enjoying it quite much. I also played "put the ring on the string back on the hook" game, and did not enjoy that very much. I found it to be kind of a waste of space. Still, it's funny, and a very unique change from darts or pool. If you are ever doing a York Blvd. bar crawl or just want to hit up an awesome bar, this is a great option!

Not much for people-watching midweek, but the perfect venue to catch up with a friend. Mellow, with couples around the bar in rapt conversation and an attentive bartender serving up decent bar food. My friend mentioned that he'd made off like a bandit at Todd English's bar in Vegas by scoring free pints all night by downing them in 7 seconds (Google it). We asked the bartender if he would indulge us with the same promotion - and he did.
Spicy sausage, roasted brussel sprouts were tasty and decently-portioned. You'd expect no less from the people who brought you Bar Covell, Salt's Cure and now the Storefront. Will be back to master the ring around the bull game in the back.

I wasn't 100% sold on this bar when they first re-opened (the place was a frightening hole before), but my friend got me here a few times and now I adore the juke joint. It probably helped that I hooked the ring (yay me!) and I had my first coffee/chipotle stout (wow). The bartenders are super friendly and the clientele so far has been low key and not as obnoxious hipster-frat as Footsies has unfortunately become.
The beer selection is amazing. My new dive!

Gentrification at its finest, but I'm not complaining. This used to be a paisa bar-- they kept the rad sign and ditched the rest.

A good wine/beer only bar with a constantly revolving draft list that sometimes skews towards real microbrews but often selects beers from larger craft breweries like Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Stone.

If I have one suggestion it would be to expand the beer list to include more IPAs and more local beers. Keep the list easy to drink-- "challenging" beers are going to end up sipped instead of drank, and someone who might have had three beers will instead only have two! May I make some suggestions? Beachwood Brewery, Cismontaine Brewery, Eagle Rock Brewery, the Bruery, Bootleggers Brewery, Angel City Brewery, Craftsman, the list goes on. The Greater Los Angeles area is seeing a huge brewery boom and it would be awesome to sample some good local stuff right down the street from home.

What kills about this place though is that it's low-key. I figure since it's beer and wine only, the crowd that likes to get "fucked up" just heads down the street to The York or Johnnie's. There's always seats available (even on Saturday nights!), either at the bar or in one of the groovy booths. On a warm night, the windows are open and you can look out onto the street. There's free shuffleboard and some weird game with a washer and a hook. Bathrooms are clean, but there's only two stalls in the ladies room (but that's ok, since it's a beer bar, most of the clientele is dudes). One time we came in and they were spinning vinyl and that was cool too. A good, mellow bar in the neighborhood? I can't complain, it's great. I'll keep coming back to drink New Belgium beers if this is the atmosphere I get.

Thanks a lot, and keep on keepin on. (Another tip-- get food trucks out front!)

They even had a vegan wine which we tried and loved!

Considering that The York and Johnnies are both under heavy lock down because of increased violence in the little area that hipsters wish to gentrify, it just makes The Hermosillo all that much more appealing.

They don't do mixed drinks with any spirits, but they do have an extensive selection of craft beer and various wine options - for all of you who aren't into the fizzy stuff.

At one point this was a pisa bar. Which is pretty evident from the outside and the bar's marquee sign. The renovation that this has gone through is pretty impressive in itself. They really classed up the joint from its former self.

The beer list is fairly micro-brew friendly. They typically have something from the Bruery as well as Stone and various other small time breweries. Eagle Rock brewery as also common here. Oddly enough, you have to go to the York for some Craftsman beer. Oh well.

I do have to say that the game in the back that blocks the way to the bathrooms is probably one of the silliest things around. You have to get a washer that is on a string onto a hook that is attached tot he wall. How this is any sort of game, I do not know. But it's the latest craze as it's always fairly busy with people wanting to try it.

The type of customers you'll find here is interesting mix of college kids, hipsters, pisas who just don't know shit changed over and some moron who is constantly trying to egg people on into playing him that stupid ring tossing washer game.

Oh yeah, the Mexican film posters here are also pretty awesome.

I find all the 4-5 star reviews pretty entertaining because their is a a lot of great punctuation....With that being said I am a proud Franklin high school GED recipient that was never a great writer.  But maybe I can properly explain with my underfunded education how fucken boring this wine and beer bar actually is.  Craft beer on draft in a dull boring and under stimulating environment .....Hmmmm

6 dollar craft beers in a neighborhood where I can eat 5 great tacos half a block away  for that price keeps me wondering about my bang for my buck....mediocre, bland service by beer snobs that don't know shit about their actual demographic...if you can't afford a condo in silver lake and ended up in Highland Park than this may be your spot....

While mixology may be all the rage, it's nice to strip the drinking options back to just a handful of beer and wine options and that's exactly what you'll get at The Hermosillo. The current draft options are projected on the wall, which can be clearly seen from any angle of the horseshoe-shaped bar, as well as the sub bar seating options. There's also a printed wine menu making the rounds if you're not a beer drinker.

The crowd doesn't start to trickle in until after 10ish, so if you're looking for a nice quiet place to grab a bevi, then head there before 10 and if you want a crowd of HP white bearded dudes and the ladies that love them, well, pull up a chair after 10pm.

Prices aren't outlandish, they have that impossible to beat hook game in the back near the bathroom, there's usually a food truck in front on the weekends, and the gents that own it are pretty swell guys. Definitely an improvement from the seedy, sketchballs place it was before.
