I'm going to guess that the majority of the 5-star reviews that state "Honey 1 is the BEST place for BBQ in Chicago OMG!!!" are from people who have never been to one of the many places in the city with better BBQ. Â
Stopped in here the other day with a group from work for lunch. Â Plenty of free side street parking nearby which is surprising, considering the neighborhood. Â I ordered the rib tip combo (small) based on a recommendation. Â What I got were fatty little bits of meat on big peices of bone, about six fries, and a cheap dollop of BBQ sauce, between two peices of...get this...Wonder Bread. Â Wonder Bread? Â Are you kidding me? Â Is this Honey 1's idea of being creative and edgy and unique? Â What am I supposed to do with two slices of white bread? Â I looked at it all and kind of felt like like this was a lunch packed by my mom and that I was in 3rd grade all over again.
All said and done, the rib tips weren't TOO bad. Â The sauce was good, and I can't rate the fries because, as mentioned, I received about six of them and they were drenched in the sauce - not enough to rate. Â I will not return here - Smoque is still by far my BBQ place of choice!
Honey 1 is really delicious!! Â The sauce is a little spicy but not overpowering, it has really good flavor. Â I got the pulled pork sandwich, it was really good with the coleslaw on it. Â Other members of my group got the rib-tips, fried okra, perch and wings. Â Everything was fantastic. Â
We also loved the fact that it was a BYOB. Â I definitely recommend Honey 1.
