I used to live near Hopkins and tried Tavern on Main several times. Each and every time., the service was pretty slow. The bartenders really don't seem to care about anyone they don't know on a personal level, which is typical of many small town establishments. The wait staff, when available, is only slightly better.

They have very limited food options, just Heggie's pizza. If you like Heggie's pizza, you'll like the way Tavern on Main heats up their pizza. No, it's nothing special.

Overall, Tavern on Main is acceptable, but barely so.

We don't go out to bars very often but I don't mind coming here! The food is alright for bar food but the atmosphere is always friendly and lively. It's really clean too and pretty big. They have a great selection of drinks and the prices are reasonable as well. It's nice to bring a group because of the space.

My wife and I had a $30 Groupon here.We entered at about 11 on a Saturday and I ordered a 25 oz Surly Furious (Love the Furious!)

The service was fast, if not a little worn. I ordered a Haggie's Inferno pizza, I was informed I could not get it without cheese, (Because it is a frozen pizza!) It was funny that I was supposed to know what a "Haggie's" pizza was. "The Haggies!?"

My wife ordered a Diet Coke and the pizza came out and it was full of sausage, pepperoni, and jalapeno. Not bad. We started a surgeons job to get as much cheese of it, and did a pretty good job.

I added some Parmesan and red pepper flakes to it, and it turned out to be a real great frozen pizza! I finished about 2/3 of the pizza.

I ordered one more big Surly and we watched a little football on one of the three big TVs over the bar.

A fun little dive bar on Main Street in Hopkins.  After the Groupon and tip, it was about $38 bucks total. So we left the $8 on the table and sauntered out.

Despite it's unassuming decor and Cheers-like atmosphere, there's something oddly cliquey about this place.  No one is outright rude here, but they're not exactly all that friendly either.

I don't recommend ordering any food.  It's all straight from the freezer and into the fryer kind of fare here, and for the prices they charge, you're better off saving yourself the money and moseying down road to Star Wok or Jasmine Garden to soak up the booze.

I've always gotten strong drinks here, so that's definitely a plus.

They like to keep the thermostat cranked pretty high here, so I would recommend grabbing a spot close to the door if it's available.  Otherwise you will spend the duration of your stay sweating like a hooker in church.

Great little place!  Looks are a bit deceiving, because its bigger than it seems from the outside.  Love the outdoor seating along main street and the row of bikes parked out front.  Inside it is well lit and well laid out.  There is plenty of seating both at the bar, and at the bar height tables (love that). They also have 2 pool tables and darts in the back - that I'll have to be sure to go back and check out.  The bartender was attentive, and the drinks were well mixed.  Also seemed to be a good mix of people.  Definitely worth checking out!

We've gone here a couple times to meet friends. For the beer drinkers, there are 32 beers on tap. No exotic collection of beers and lots of popular brews. Enough TVs to watch a game or play trivia.

It seems like the young crowd come in after 10pm and the regulars make their exit at about that time. Apparently when the young crowd show up, the music volume comes closer to decibel level of most raves. So if you want to here yourself think, don't sit at the bar side with the pool tables. If you sit at one of the tables, don't expect to get served. Order all your drinks at the bar. I didn't see a server taking orders, they must have been short staffed.

Bottom line: hefty selection of domestic beers on tap, bartenders are friendly, patrons are unpretentious. A decent bar on Hopkin's Main Street.

A worthy competitor to Mainstreet (across the street).  32 beers on tap...nice selection.  Food needs to be improved but I think ownership is planning to address this.  Nice drink/beer specials and usually pretty busy at night.  Play the Spinning Wheel for some laughs.

We came here with some friends to finish watching the Big Ten Championship game after Mainstreet Bar and Grill turned the sound off for the band to start warming up.

As others have described the place is very much a typical neighborhood bar; friendly and down to earth.  They have an impressive amount of beers on tap with everything from Bud to Stella to a couple local brews as well.  They turned me on to Nordeast, which is becoming my new go-to beer in the area.  The place has a little bit nicer set up than Mainstreet and the service was a little bit better here.

Since we have friends that live just down the street, I imagine we'll be back before long.

I find the Hopkins Tavern to be a nice place to grab a few beers, watch some sports on TV, and have a good time with people. It is a pretty down to earth establishment where people are pretty friendly. It is sort of a typical "neighborhood bar" in that sense. I have found the bartenders to be friendly and they have done a good job any time I have been in the place. I think I have only eaten some food there once (pizza I believe) so I won't claim to be an expert on that aspect of the place.

I went to a birthday party here and had a fantastic time.  The food is great and priced right and the drinks are stiff ; ).  I love Hopkins.  It's so close to MPLS but it feels so far away.

Great local bar, staff is friendly, and it has a good set up for hanging out. They don't have a food menu to speak of, so if you want to eat, go across the street to Mainstreet. If you are a smoker, they have a heated tent/patio out back.

We went to the Hopkins Tavern looking for a drink and some food but all we got was bad service. First thing we got when we walked in was a stare down from the 'regulars'. Then we found a spot to sit and ended up just sitting there for 10 minutes. No one stopped by to take an order or to tell us to order at the bar, if that is the case. We ended up just leaving because it was very awkward. If the policy is to order at the bar, you may want to tell people that. I may try again sometime when we have no time limit but my first impression was not good.

I'll give this two stars because the food is great, but let me tell you my experience one sad, sad happy hour.

I came in one Happy Hour after a horrible day, needing a drink and to forget about my worries.  I ordered a High Life and paid with plastic, because I had no cash (bill was only $2).  Could hear the bartender complain about me paying with plastic to another patron of the bar making a bad day worse, so I didn't tip her, and then got to hear her complain about that fact...

Anyways, may just have been a bad bartender, but in all fairness when my company buys me dinner here and I have to go, the food is excellent so I'll bump it up to two stars.

This may be my new favorite neighborhood bar. I don't actually live in Hopkins, but close enough and considering there is nothing near my house this will do. A friend and I headed over on a Friday night before hitting up a movie at the Mann theatre. What better way to enjoy a $2.00 movie than to have a few beers before hand. I think we were there early enough to grab a seat the bar. They don't have a full food menu, but they do offer great late night happy hour specials. They also show the VIkings games on Sunday, if you are into that sort of thing.
