Our experience not good. Halibut taco: I was expecting a nice grilled piece of fish. Instead, it was shredded dry fish that could have been canned tuna from Ohio. The health nut char broiled halibut was also dry, dry, dry. Worst fish we have had in Alaska. Go for the beer and noise, elsewhere for food....or maybe the burgers are better???

This restaurant serves garbage for food, I don't think I've ever had such a poorly prepared and presented meal; their french fries are loaded with gluten and probably added fat, which made me choose a 'natural meal'.. just gross overcooked 'grilled' halibut and some large chunks of cooked cucumber and cold rice.. of course the fatter and unhealthier you are, the more you'd probably enjoy this kind of fare.. but if you want GOOD food, prepared well... then stay away from this hole..

Thank goodness their kitchen stays open late! Our train from Talkeetna to Anchorage was delayed, then our ride to the hotel failed to show up, and we weren't able to start looking for dinner until around 10 PM. It seemed like we didn't have many non-fast-food options in town, so we were happy to find Humpy's listed as "Open Now" on Yelp.

The food was pretty good - the firehouse chicken sandwich had some serious heat! - and the beer menu had an extensive selection of local brews.

Walking in to a packed restaurant (past a "bouncer"/greeter) and realizing you have to seat yourself is somewhat maddening. But we pressed on - knowing that there was seating outside in the back because we had walked past it. We ended up sitting at the bar right by the kitchen. Meaning we sat there and watched them cook everyone's food! The guy working the grill was very engaging which was nice, especially since we sat for almost 10 minutes waiting for service. We ordered local beers (always a plus for me and so readily available in Alaska!) and the King Crab Nuggets. Then sat back and talked with the grill guy. He single-handedly sold us on our entrees.

We order our entrees - still waiting on our crab nuggets - which I was really interested in trying. The kitchen handed us our entrees directly when they were ready and when we finally saw our waitress again we told her we hadn't gotten our appetizer. She assured us that it would come off our bill and brought them out to us moments later. What a disappointment. I don't know what I was expecting - but six 50-cent piece size, flat nuggets for $12 was not it. This was the only "meh" for the food and drink portion of our visit. My salmon special was very, very good and so were the halibut tacos.

I wanted to give this 2 stars, but the grill guy and our entrees made it deserving of another star.

I think this place would be good for groups (with a wait) because there are some huge tables. The vibe is very laid back - almost dive bar-ish.

Oh- this was just such a disappointment. We came in on a Wednesday night and the place was PACKED. We figured the food had to be good! We ordered various items on the menu, and then the wait started. Our appetizer never came out....we had to ask where the food was after sitting for nearly 50 minutes. When the food came out, the crab legs were COLD!!! When you're paying 47$ for two crab legs, the least I expect is for them to be warm. Not only that, the size and quality of the crab was disappointing. LITERALLY the worst caesar salad I've had in a while, tasted like watered down milky nothing. No flavor whatsoever. Had to remind the waiter not to charge us for the appetizer and he replied 'Yeah I was ontop of it' right...

Do try the halibut fish and chips and calamari, the halibut and calamri was extremely fresh and moist! Highly recommend it. Don't order the crab nuggets, extremely disappointing ...it's basically crab cakes but I couldn't see or taste any crab at all! It was most fillers, hence the 4 stars. The halibut fish tacos are good size and very tasty, one of them actually filled me up. The staff are friendly.

A small group of us came here for a bite to eat on a Friday night. Several in our group had eaten here before and said it was a decent local hangout, so why not not give it a try, right?
Apparently the cooks were overloaded and it took over an hour to get our food after we ordered. We couldn't help but notice a few tables that were seated after us ordered and finished eating before we even saw our food. The young waitress (sort of) serving us was quick to blame the kitchen, even though she herself did not bother to come back and check on us once in the hour after she brought us drinks.
When the food did finally arrive, one was missing her oysters she ordered as an appetizer, and the Friday clam chowder soup was simply replaced with something else as they apparently ran out of chowder. Again, the server did not mention this or was not aware of this from the kitchen. Poor service strike again.
The salmon sandwich I had was fine, but even the manager's attempt to save our opionion of Humpy's will not likely get me back there again.

Tourist trap!! Seat yourself. Food price is a little more expensive. Food quality was lacking. My fries were cold. The interior is casual. Nothing impressive at all. Like i said a tourist attraction spot after man vs food episode. I'll give the another try but not anytime soon.

I took a friend visiting from Oklahoma thinking we would have a great time. Ahhhh... NO! We had the worst service from a waitress that chatted it up with tourists while we sat totally ignored. I was so disappointed. When we got our food the order was wrong and she was rude! I won't go back.

This place was something back in its day, not any more! Waited 35 minutes for a burger, staff to busy to pay attention to customers. $5.25 for a "pint" it's actually a 13oz. glass. The wait staff was making numerous complaints about the customers to one another. Ahhh...the service sucks and the food marginal and oh yeh we the customers are paying your checks and tipping , just a reminder.

The service was great. The firehouse chicken was really spicy (which I completely enjoyed) and the berry crisp was delicious (and had a generous amount of quality ice cream). The only thing missing was the caesar salad was very bland and I'd choose a different salad next time I go.

I sat in the outdoor seating but inside they had a decent cover band playing everything from AC/DC to Tool.

Sat at the bar. The food was unfortunately typical grub, at least what I got. Beer selection was pretty good.

It was super busy and you have to find your own set and that sucked walking around like a stalker. When we got a table the food was good and service was better then you would expect. This is a good place to eat.

I love this place! It's always packed. Full bar, one of the best food in town whether you want steak or seafood. Great atmosphere to have a nice dinner or hangout with friends. They have outside patio also. Prices were very reasonable and service was excellent. I highly recommend this place!! and you gotta try their crab roll! it is the best I've had even Maryland got nothing on this.

Best fish & chips in Anchorage- hands down. The halibut fish & chips is my go-to order every time I've come in. The halibut is done perfectly; it is always done just right and isn't too greasy. And although I usually don't like tartar sauce, I can eat theirs with a spoon. Not to mention the ambience is cool and Humpy's has a ton of great local beers on tap. Perfect!

My first experience with Humpy's was when I arrived in Anchorage late at night. My friend said she had saved me half of her crab roll. Picturing the tiny crab rolls we get in the lower 48, I was a bit confused as to how she had leftovers. It turns out the portions are very generous! When we returned to Anchorage before flying home, Humpy's was one of the only places open. We split an order of fish tacos and a berry crisp. It was plenty of food. Overall, the food and service were way more than one usually expects for bar food.

I hadn't been to Humpy's for two years and was looking forward to returning last night. I'm sorry to say that it was a serious disappointment. The previously excellent menu of beers and ales is now limited almost entirely to local products. Alaska has some very good local products, but we who live here like to look for ales from elsewhere. I took a chance on something I had never heard of and sent it back as undrinkable. My problem. I took a change and did not win. I didn't expect a refund and didn't get an offer.

The food was once excellent, with a wide selection. Choices were now very limited. I ordered the fried mushroom appetizer. The mushrooms were common white buttons, coated with a tasteless batter, and dripping with oil.

This time, there was only one steak on the menu, a rib eye. I selected halibut instead. For $19 I received a plastic basket with mushy French fries and four small, square pieces of halibut, dunked in the same tasteless batter and deep fried.

The wait staff, once very knowledgeable about both beverages and meals, seemed ignorant of what they were selling. I asked about the ales and the waitress read the menu to me. She knew nothing about the list. She was inattentive and not helpful.

A review based on one visit may not tell you much. But this was a really bad experience after many pleasant times. I think I will not return. That's sad.

Recommendation: Avoid. Poor food for high prices.

I can't comment on the food because as a party of 6 adults with the youngest of us being 28 we were denied food service because my sister in law didn't have her ID. She wasn't even ordering alcohol! We were told by the bouncers that we couldn't even sit at a food table. Silly policy considering there were multiple tables of teenagers eating with their parents, but if you are an actual 28 year old with your parent you can't even come in the door. Get some new bouncers.

This place is great. They give you insane portions of food. The halibut taco's are massive! I loved the vibe of this place. I feel lame saying that it was a little loud, but what do you expect with live music I guess. If you want it a little quieter, there are some booths available in back that are just great. Also, my boyfriend and I went there one Sunday before seeing a show at the Performing Arts Center and we got our first taste of the breakfast menu. Holy cow, I cannot stress this enough when I say their home fries/house potato's are the ABSOLUTE BEST I have ever had. I normally can't stand them anywhere I go. Their bacon made me fall in love with bacon again. Also, they have trivia night on Tuesday's during the winter. it goes a little slower than I'm used to, but its still a good time. Thanks Humpy's!!!

Surf and turf! 1/2 lb. crab leg and rib eye steak The crab legs were amazing, expensive but delicious. The steak I could have skipped. It was fatty and not that tasty. I should have just gotten the 1 lb. crab. Had the rum bread pudding...after taking one bite I knew I'd have to finish it back at the hotel because I was driving and didn't want to take the chance...that thing packs a punch! Service is friendly...this is one of those known places in Anchorage so it's usually pretty busy with both tourist and locals but I feel like you can find other places (with the help of Yelp) that give a more authentic AK experience for less.

Though I have been to Humpy's many times over the years it had been a handful of years since my last visit. So when the USS Anchorage was in town for its commissioning and a friend and I went to attend the Dock at the Block party to welcome them we decided to head to Humpy's to grab a bite to eat. Humpy's is one of those places that is almost always busy and its seat yourself so we had just arrived to find it even more crowded than normal. But after a few minutes I saw a server removing some dishes from one of the tables so not being overly shy that evening went over to grab it and proclaim it "mine!". I felt bad about grabbing a table that could have easily sat 5 for just the 2 of us but one does when they have to. Especially when capacity is pretty much at standing room only.

Even with as busy as we were our server came by at around ~7 minutes to take our beverage order. Diet coke for me and a blonde beer for my blonde friend. Took about another 5-10 minutes before she brought them over. Again they were extremely busy so patience and leniency were the theme of the night.

We were both in the mood for food so ordered the low carb chicken with salsa for me while my friend had a hankering for the cow so ordered a burger. While we waited it was a good time to people watch. To the right of us was a table of Navy soldiers in town who looked like they were enjoying themselves. In fact pretty much everyone at Humpy's did as the volume was very boisterous. Another norm for here. If you are looking for a place to have a private or quiet conversation, Humpy's is not for you.

Our meals arrived a short time later. While my grilled chicken was good it had cooked a bit too long on the grill to the point where it was getting a bit tough. The meal was supposed to come with "fresh steamed garden vegetables, tomato wedges, marinated cucumbers and salsa". Everything was there except the steamed veggies. Which I would have much preferred to nibble on over the marinated cucumbers. I love cucumbers but am not a fan of the marinated ones Humpy's has. But I ate them anyway.

When I asked my dining partner how her burger was I was assured it was really good. I have to agree as the burgers I have had over the years there have always been flavorful. Humpy's definitely knows how to cook their cow. Some other menu favorites have been their Bill's Way Halibut Burger and their Caesar salad.

I am grateful to Humpy's for offering some low carb options since many restaurants in town don't. But I do think their low carb options could be improved upon. Overall the trip to Humpy's was decent. Not the best visit but certainly not the worst.

I was led to this restaurant after watching an episode of Man vs. Food and always wanted to check out this place if I ever made it to Anchorage. Was it worth all the hype? I have to say Yes, YES, YES! We went mid-afternoon after our dog sled tour in Eagle River and we were super hungry. Humpy's did not disappoint. It wasn't too crowded when we got there and had plenty of booth choices. Service was excellent and we didn't have to flag our server down for anything. Prices were reasonable for the amount and quality of the food we received.
On to the food- yummy! Everything was great, flavors were awesome and portions were huge. We did our best to finish, because it tasted so good. I had the halibut tacos (fresh, huge, crunchy and just the right amount of spice) and my friends had the crab roll sandwich (another crowd pleaser) and smoked salmon & scallops fettuccini (this was another winner- the seafood and the sauce alone won us over- warning: it's a little on the heavy side and so be sure to schedule a nap for afterwards). Even though we were full, we shared the berry crisp dessert. This was amazing with the berries and the crust and the ice cream= very satisfying.
We were full off our entrees and dessert, so I doubt we could attempt the Kodiak Arrest Challenge. I will leave that to the professionals. Thank you Humpy's! I will be back! In the meantime, I look forward to checking out the Kona location which is a lot closer to me. Aloha!

Humpy's has THE best (and I believe ONLY) make-your-own bloody marys in Anchorage. So many ingredients to choose from too! And on the weekends (especially in the winter), their creamy tortollini soup is heaven.

Good food, service and atmosphere. Humpys is probably the spot that locals take their friends from out of town to get a taste of "Anchorage". It's a decent place, and has a good selection of beers. If you like tap handles, Humpys has a really nice selection lining the ceiling all the way around the bar. This is not fancy dining, but the food is decent quality pub food. The last time I was there, the attached store was closed. I don't know if they are expanding the dining area or just remodeling. Park in back (pay parking lot).

A review for the bar not the food....

Finally checked out Humpy's during the Fur Rondy. Humpy's was JAMMED... it was like a bar in Times Square on New Year's. Wall to wall people. I was impressed with how the staff handled the rush. I was even more impressive with 1- the large selection of beers on tap (over 50) and 2- the enormous (16oz) size of my drink. Yay Humpies! Its super close to the Den'aina Center, so I got a good buzz on before I toddled on over to the Rage City Roller Girls Roll'er Derby. The location is prime if you're going to an event at Den'aina. Woot!

Had some great beers tonight and ordered the plank salmon. The salmon was prepared on a piece of timber not the type of wood we know salmon is cedar planked on. The salmon was dried beyond recognition and for a town that is supposed to know fish this definitely was not cooked properly.
I guess I should know better and stick with the burger here.
Why is it that an Alehouse can't keep their beer list updated on their website or better yet updated on http://Taplister.com.
Very disappointing to go in expecting to find something on tap and the bartender doesn't know what you are talking about. All in all though for great beer selection and food, this is a great choice.

Dashed in here for a bite during Fur Rendezvous activities. It was packed, but we sat with another couple who had lots of room at their table. Since there is no host or hostess, you just have to dive in wherever you can find room.

My friend had the halibut taco. I'm glad that they offer this dish as either a one or two option because one is definitely enough. The taco was good, but the tortilla shell was not hardy enough. It crumbled and fell apart easily, but I guess that's what a fork is for.

I had the halibut fish and chips. They were yummy enough, and the batter was nice and light, but I remarked about how the flavor was a little inconsistent for me from piece to piece. Being in the commercial fishing business, I guess I'm a little spoiled.

I had the white IPA beer that was a special for Rondy, and it was very good!

I'm not digging deep just for the 100 review challenge. I'm simply weighing in because a moment ago I saw an Alaskan and I thought of Alaska and that made me wistful and I thought then of many things and Humpy's halibut tacos were one of them. If tacos can be referred to in the singular. A plate of tacos. There.

Once upon a time, on a whim and perhaps more than a little owing to the intoxicating company I drove a green bean from Oakland to Fairbanks. That first trip so many moons ago was just the perforation of my chilly Alaska cherry; since I've returned many times, loving

every

single

minute of it.

I stumbled first upon Humpy's on September 22, 2001, whilst stranded in AK after the world changed. Not exaggerating even a little, the Humpy's vibe and the vittles and the good people all around was what started to get my feet planted back on the ground that fateful day. I've returned many times over the succeeding years eating each time that for me signature dish.

So as I sat here all wistful thinking of what brought me and what went down once upon a time a long long time ago I just thought I'd share it with my local friends and family.

Humpy's rocks. Alaska is beautiful. Drive the Alcan before you get much older. Fall in love with an Alaskan at least once in your life.

Trust.

Ehhhhh..... What to say about a sport's bar with beer and seafood? Well as a tourist being taken by a friend to see a local spot I was more than happy to give it a go. When we got there for lunch HE was a bit taken aback at the skimpy lunch menu. He kept asking if I wanted to go elsewhere and I kept telling him he was in charge! I have a feeling the dinner menu is better than the lunch/brunch (as the breakfast menu and lunch are together).

He had the fish tacos and woofed them down. I decided on two appetizers and got the King crab bites and the smoked salmon spread. The former was pretty tasty with the breading being just right for me. The salmon was too smokey/bacon-flavored so much so that I couldn't have told you if it was salmon tuna or chicken pureed in there.

There were multiple football games and other sports on the different screens which my only complaint about is that while watching one game you get unrelated cheering/jeering about another and it is a bit offputting somehow. But for a group of guys (or gals or mixed) wanting some beer and to watch a game in ANC...hey....it is fine. However, fine dining it is not. Also I wouldn't recommend it if you want much conversation as the place is way above average in the noise (TVs, people, etc etc).

Except for the reality of the salmon spread and generally so so food I think my rating is more a matter of preference than whether they do a good job at what they've set out to do. Also it was a bit pricey.....so I can only state I've had better. Sorry, no more humping at lunch for me.

Stone sober, after Seinfeld at Sulivan Arena, I got turned away at the door. Some pissant guard with a faux-hawk told me I was drunk, and had to leave. Guess what, f**k Humpys. We went there specifically, we're definitely not going to anymore. Last straw for that hole. We went next door to McGinleys... Krynn was amazing, better than I had expected.

When there are 188 Yelp reviews already on a place, then normally I don't bother to add my opinion. However, because I was in Anchorage recently and wanted to enjoy some good seafood, several people steered me to Humpy's.

It is a locals place, which bodes well for me since I was not interested in going to some over-priced tourist joint. I came in on a damp day and immediately ordered a hot chocolate, which was delicious. Then I totally scarfed down some wonderful white clam chowder with a hunk of sourdough bread and butter.

Fish (cod) and chips was very good, although I really wanted the halibut. But I came back the next day for lunch before I hit the airport and enjoyed a brunch menu of blackened halibut eggs benedict and home potatoes. I asked for the fish to be put on the side with some lemon and tarter sauce, Finally, I had my piece of halibut and it melted in my mouth from goodness.

My advice: park behind the restaurant and come in through the back alley entrance. Far less traffic. But I did have to deduct 1 YELP STAR for no waiting area. When the eatery is full, as it usually is, large parties come in, some dragging kids. They stand around near your table and block the aisles, waiting for a table to open up. It was very annoying and took away from the otherwise jovial ambiance of Humpy's.

Very over-rated. I had the crab and have never felt so ripped off. The veggies that came with it were straight out of the bag (cauli, carrots, etc.). The crab was great but the portions were very small for 50 bucks.

My wife had the fried halibut and it was amazing. They have a great batter and it was cooked very well.

The service was terrible. Maybe I had the bad apple but he was awful. Probably won't go back to this place, but maybe you'll have better luck. I've heard good things about them.

Being the Man VS Food fanatic that I am, I just had to come check this place out while visiting Alaska. It was our first stop. When you walk in, it's kind of grungy but I liked the atmosphere. We had to street park and I suggest you bring coins because all their meters in Anchorage are coins only!! Wish I had known that sooner.

Anyway, I ordered the smoked salmon caesar wrap and my bf ordered the salmon burger with a side of chili. My wrap sucked... they shoved a bunch of romaine lettuce in the wrap and not enough of the other ingredients. His burger, however, was on point. So was his chili... I wish I could have tried some other options on the menu, but unfortunately I couldn't. If you go, order anything else besides the smoked salmon wrap!

We ate here based on recommendations from some locals and the B & B we were staying at. Have to say it was a little disappointing. While yes they had a good beer selection the food and the service were just so so. Place was packed and it took a while to be served. The food, was just OK, I had the Halibut fish and chips that seems to get rave reviews here however when they finally came to me they were soggy which was disappointing as I figured this state would be a good place for fresh halibut. Another in our party got one of the grilled chicken breasts and said pretty forgettable.
Not a place I would return to for a meal, maybe for a few beers, but that's about it.
