So far so good!!! The sausage and pepper sandwich was perfection. Quality meat for the sausages made right on property and peppers sautéed to there utmost deliciousness. Tuna fish, very nice! Same with the egg salad (the wife loved it and she is an egg salad connoisseur). The fresh mozzarella, amazing and made by the owner in house.  The marinated mushrooms, different, like they are sitting in french onion soup, but nonetheless, tasty.
I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the prepared foods. Also, they sell boars head deli meats and prosciutto di parma.
The owner is such a nice guy. What a treat to meet him and he is following in his father's footsteps who started out in the Bronx. I can't wait t go back and learn more about what makes this guy tick and enjoy quality deli and fresh meats.
My mother has been shopping here for years. Owner is a very nice guy who is there all the time. They have great prepared foods. If you don't feel like cooking it is a excellent place to go pick up some quality delicious food. But the one thing that really makes Italian Meateria stand out is their tuna fish. It is the best tuna fish I have ever had. It tastes unlike any other tuna fish I have ever had. Has almost a smoked taste to it and very white. I don't live in New Rochelle any longer, but when I'm up from the city I stop in sometimes and get a container of tuna fish and a container of chicken salad (ask then to put a few drops of hot sauce in the chicken salad). Both are excellent.
I used to think they used imported Italian tuna...but I asked the owner and he said it is domestic....I pressed him on it and he refused to divulge the brand...other than to say it is a quality tuna! Â For this reason this place only gets 4 stars and not 5! Â I mean really, it's not like I'm going to open up a competing deli next door and take away his tuna business! Notwithstanding, I really do like this place!
PS: On the subject of Tuna...you really should limit your consumption as there are elevated amounts of Mercury in it. My father actually had Mercury poisoning....for real, not like Jeremy Piven. He is fine now, but had cut down on his fish intake. It is really sad that more and more of our food is being contaminated. Wild everything is the way to go, but that ain't cheap.
