Worst food that I ever had. It is 1 am and am still awake because of the half cooked garlic chicken and tasteless fried rice. Spring rolls were greasy and the soup was hot water with some tofu and vinegar. I love Chinese food and there is nothing good in Richmond. The closest is the one in Eaton. Don't even think of this place
for food. The place looks run down with a pair of half broken lions in the front. Service was bad. I try to find good about any place but this one did not give me any.
The only reason I half like this place is that I can order what I want from the menu because even when I order a typical Chinese item like Ma Po To Fu, it doesn't taste like the real thing.
I once talked to the owner, a Taiwanese woman, and asked her why they changed the food and she replied "We have to make it like that or they won't eat it." Â I suppose that's true. Â Most American people have no idea about real Asian food.
I remember the Thai-Chinese couple who opened a carry out restaurant at South 8th and E Streets (where A&W Root Beer used to be) in the late 1970s. Â It was absolutely wonderful and when I took the food back to the Elder-Beerman break room, people complained about the smell of the food. Â It was amazingly good.
This place is passable. Â The Ma Po To Fu sauce I buy in foil bags is better and is made the way Japanese like it. Â The restaurant has a lot of choices, though, but the service is odd. Â One woman doesn't seem to speak English and when I was trying some written (by computer) Chinese, she didn't even get that. Â They're friendly, but is it enough? Â Taste isn't optional.
Worst Chinese food I've ever eaten! Frozen shrimp were over cooked and dried out. The chicken was really fatty. Do yourself a favor and go to Great Wall <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.greatwallinrichmond.com%2F&s=b7b3b13e2ffc132600bb7f470854d5b387ac554f704a93bb7e5dcdfa4084e061" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.greatwallinri…</a>
Review Source:Terrible service. Â Ordered dinner, picked up a little (25) minutes later than expected ready time. Â Ate it an hour later. Â The chicken was really, really dry - like, I've only had a badly cooked Thanksgiving turkey that tasted that bad - and when I called to complain was told that it was dry because I waited too long to pick it up. Â Fried things usually get soggy, not dry, from being allowed to sit in a sealed container for an hour and a half. Â Phone attendant refused to replace entree or give coupon of equal value and insisted that since the cook had been doing his job for 10 years, he couldn't have made a mistake. Â If the chicken had been soggy, I would have agreed, but this overcooked meal is one I certainly will never be repeating. Â Disgusting.
Review Source:The city of Richmond contains at least 5 Chinese Buffets. You are doing a disservice to yourself if you go to any one that is NOT the Jade House.
Being that we have no "sit-down only" Chinese restaurants, this is also the only buffet in Richmond that is worth ordering off the menu. They even deliver!
This establishment seems to be family-owned and operated which gives the place a nice, comfortable atmosphere. The Staff are a pleasure to be around.
The buffet itself is tucked away in a room, so once you have your plate you feel as though you are seated at a typical "non-buffet" restaurant.
Some people may have a problem with the size of the buffet. However, I feel as though The Jade House emphasizes quality over quantity.
