I eat here every Thursday with a group that meets here. I finally took my wife here and now she likes coming on the weekends. Service is always friendly, food comes out fast and hot, prices are easy to swallow too.
Lots of parking, wait lines are minimal to non-existent, so if your usual has you lined up outside, I'd say drive on over!
First timer today. Had the steak skillet which was very good. Hashbrowns could have been cooked another two minutes. Wife had the Olympian omelet. Very fluffy and cooked to perfection. Her hashbrowns could have used another few minutes of cook time as well. Overall very good. A little more effort and a five star
Review Source:The cafeteria style dining room didn't stun me but the food was very good. Â Pancakes were fluffy and cakey; my meat lover's breakfast skillet was hefty with cheese melted perfectly, egg fried well, and potatoes and meat blended nicely. Â The wait staff was very fast and friendly, quick with refills of water and coffee. Â And the bus boys were on their feet the whole time.
Review Source:found myself in Glenview, greatly in need of  a hearty b-fast.  Don't ask the details.  They are sketchy.  But the food at Jasper's was not.  It was solid and American and came with plenty of protein (eggs and bacon) and caffeine.  The free wi-fi helped out as well so I could get my electronic bearings.
Now I'm ready to face the day once more.
My husband and I went this weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. Â I had the veggie skillet served with eggs over potatoes. Â The meal included two pancakes (or toast- I opted for the pancakes) on the side. Â My skillet was delicious, but I'm pretty sure that the menu said that the skillet had two eggs....even though four showed up on my plate (I took half of my breakfast home with me!). Â The pancakes were surprisingly delicious- I would definitely order them again! Â However, the cafe should have the option of real maple syrup!
My husband had the German pancake which he has never had before, but enjoyed.
I can definitely see us coming back here for breakfast again.
My go-to for breakfast in the Glenview area. Large menu with generous portions, mainly the omelets. All fresh tasting and reasonable price considering hash browns and choice of toast or pancakes comes with the meal. Most prefer Walker Bros, but it is always too crowded and has a much limited menu in comparison.
Review Source:Went here for Sunday brunch. Â I went for the lox benedict and my boyfriend got the corn beef hash. Â Both were alright. Â I was dissapointed that the lox on my dish was thoroughly cooked (the fish was just flaking apart and actually was hard to eat). Â The highlight was probably the pancakes that he got on the side (instead of toast) - they were light and fluffy and delicious. Â May have to try sweeter things next time.
Review Source:Jasper's is one of a dying breed of solid non chain breakfast restaurants. Love the fresh squeezed orange juice. The Iron Man egg white omelet was terrific and the service was polite and adequate. Went there on Sunday morning just before the rush and watched the place fill up. They handled the rush quite well and they didn't seem to be in the weeds. The owner/manager was working the window keeping the food flowing and the staff organized. Well done, we will be back.
Review Source:We go here all the time, usually early in the morning on a Saturday or Sunday. Â I love this place for its simplicity- nothing is outstanding, fancy, or over the top. Â It's just good, simple, quality food. Â And while Jaspers probably doesn't like it, I love that I never have to wait to get in.
Review Source:I went on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. Plenty of seating & parking. Good start. When I walked in the door. I was met at the hostess station by the owner & felt as though I was bothering him as he was having a long conversation with patron. He asked if I wanted a booth or table & I explained I was meeting someone so I was looking around to see if she was there yet. Â As I'm trying to look he asks me again. Again I say I'm looking to see if my friend was there. Finally he says that I should let him know when I'm ready & he turns his back on me to continue his conversation. Mind you all this took place in less than 20 seconds. Have a little patience why don't you? Finally a young lady came over & sat me down.
The wait staff was very cordial as my wait for my dining guest was a bit longer than expected. They made sure I had everything I wanted while I waited. Finally, my friend shows up & we order. I ordered lunch & got a Chicken Panini sandwich& split pea soup. The pesto on the sandwich overtook the entire meal & the soup was very watered down.
Now with all this negativity being said, I will try again because 1 sandwich does not a restaurant make. I just hope the owner learns lesson #1 in the restaurant business, the customer comes first. No conversation is more important than the person who is trying to give them money.
We've been to this place about five times since they opened. Â Service is solid and pleasant. Â Everything is good except for their soups, which used to be good until recently. Â They now taste like nasty chicken bouillon. Â They're so bad that I heard the lady at the table next to us send back one soup only to send back the second soup option when they replaced it with an alternative. Â They should either use better ingredients or lower the entree price 50 cents and give up on offering soup. Â
We've had patty melts, monte cristos, reubens, santa fe sandwiches, pancakes, and omlettes. Â All are solid and almost as good as Elly's Pancake House. Â I wouldn't necessarily compare this place to Walker Brothers as I've seen other reviewers do--though I haven't tried their apple pancake or dutch baby knockoffs. Â The atmosphere doesn't compare to Walker Brothers.
Eating at Jaspers is mostly a good experience. Â I happened to go an hour before closing on a Sunday and the place was empty so they were cleaning and I had the scent of Lysol with my brunch so that was the major letdown.
However given my rating the positives overcame the negatives. Â I was hungry so I had a skillet, which came with pancakes and a waffle with homers ice cream and strawberries. Â The skillet was good but it did need some more seasoning, perhaps pepper ans jalapenos. Â as other reviewers commented, it comes with 4 small eggs on top so you get 4 yolks which was nice. Â The pancakes which came along with it were nice and fluffy- much larger than Walker Brothers. Â The waffle was great and they did not skimp on the ice cream. Â I also had some bacon which was good. Â The orange juice was good but looked unnaturally orange.
One nice thing was that the atmosphere looked very clean and modern. Â However there really was not much ambiance or decor whatsoever. Â Everyone compares this place to Walker Brothers because the menu is nearly identical (it looks like they hired a chef from Walker Brothers or copied the menu). Â However, the food is close but still it misses the ambiance, personality and the flavor (I am referring to Walker Brothers in Wilmette, not Glenview). The price is somewhat cheaper than Walker Brothers and its a nice change of pace if you are looking for brunch.
The inside is very clean. It feels different inside than how it looks outside. Outside looks old and inside is new.
I got their challah french toast and an order of turkey sausage and cup of skim milk. 3 big slices of french toast. Good stuff only if eaten with syrup. Better than regular french toast I've tried before. I usually have to order a kids meal separate from my order for my son but this time we were able to share and it was equally filling for both of us. Saved money there! My husband ordered the corned beef and hash with eggs and order of pancakes. He scarfed down the pancakes (big pancakes) and ate maybe a quarter of the corned beef hash and was full.
Our bill came out to about $30. We went on a thursday morning around 10am. It wasn't busy at all. I would recommend the challah french toast again. Sausage casing was too tough. Corned beef and hash was too cheesy for me.
Let me just start by saying that I am the biggest fan of Walker Brothers Original Pancake House (WB). Â I've been going there with my family since childhood after church on weekends, and have tried almost everything on their menu. Â They have raised prices twice in my memory, but I have continued to return as I am a loyal patron and absolutely love the food and have befriended the staff.
With that said, I want to say that Jasper's Cafe will give Walker Brothers a serious run for its money.
Ambience/Decor: minimalist, very clean, filled with windows so lots of natural light flooding in, very different from the dark atmosphere of WB
Service: fantastic! our waitress (can't remember her name, but a wonderful friendly blonde in her 30s) was attentive and never let our coffees go empty and checked in with us just enough so that we didn't feel ignored but also was never hovering... also when we ordered the German pancake, she reminded us that it takes up to 30 minutes to bake, and asked if we wanted the skillet first to munch on or would we like both together, which was a sweet touch (she knew we were starving)! At WB I often feel that the waiters aren't very friendly (not that they're rude but impartial would be the word), probably because many of them been there for decades and work has become quite routine, but it was just a nice change.
Selection: extensive menu with all of my favorites including corned beef hash, chorizo/jalapeno (love my Mexican breakfast mmm), skillets, apple pancake and Dutch baby, and there is a Dieter's section with various combinations of cottage cheese, fruits, salmon/tomato/avocado, hot/cold cereals, etc. which is awesome. Â Whenever I am dieting, I normally have to mix and match side dishes which is always a hassle and never quite as satisfying knowing that I'm not actually eating an entree but eating two sides, but I'm a woman and we think about food like that...
Food: here's a breakdown of what we ordered on our visit and a little summary... basically all of it was very, very good
-German pancake: phenomenal! tasted more 'eggy' than WB but was moist perfection and just so delicious and lemony and sugary
-applewood smoked bacon: a little thinner cut than we were expecting but tasty and delicious, and just thick/tasty enough to know that the average joe couldn't reproduce the quality at home (how I judge bacon... if I've made better at home, not good news for the restaurant)
-cheesy hash browns: WB hash browns are my absolute favorite, sometimes I think they are a bit too crispy and oily but the flavor is always perfect especially with the onions. Â at Jasper's, there were no onions in the hash which left some flavor to be desired, however the hash browns were much fluffier yet still crispy with 150% larger portion size... overall delicious, lots of gooey cheddar on top too mmm!
-corned beef hash skillet - AMAZING!!! Jasper's uses smaller eggs so they put 4 eggs on the skillet, ordered medium and cooked to perfection. Â I love corned beef hash and it was honestly the best skillet I have ever had, what with the four yolks (best part!) and those fluffy but crispy potatoes and the amazing corned beef... I'm a huge skillet/omelet lover and always order a skillet if available. Â WB does not have these options, but the skillets at Jasper's were definitely far superior in taste to the ones offered at Annie's (another favorite suburban breakfast place of mine) and would KO the skillets at Meli's (Greektown) and Flo (also has amazing skillets)
Price: much cheaper... our bill was ~$31, at WB it would have been at least $45 and I should add that the portions were HUGE, that's a given for the German pancake but the skillet was also immense (I'm the girl that can finish a burrito bowl at Chipotle... I ate half my skillet and was stuffed!) and the sides were heaped onto those little plates!
Wait: 0 minutes at 11:30am on a Saturday... at WB there is always at least a 15 minute wait (Jasper's is about 0.5 miles north of Lake on Milwaukee... in 5 minutes, you could go from waiting in line at WB to promptly seated at Jasper's, enjoying a cup of coffee. Â The parking lot is much larger and there is seating for at least double that of WB
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend Jasper's to anyone who has high breakfast expectations, to all skillet lovers, to those who expect friendly and prompt service without spending more than ~$15 per person. Â I want to say that Jasper's is like the Annie's of Glenview... better food quality but the same great prices and friendly staff. Â Just think, in a few weeks, the cold Chicago weather will have set in for good. Â The wait is usually out the door at WB, and the allure of Jasper's is going to do some damage. Â WB is still #1 in my heart as far as the food goes (and we have so much history! *sob*), but Jasper's overall delivers a superior dining experience. Â I can't wait to try their lunch items and their pancakes next time!
Went to brunch over the weekend. Â Clean, well-paced and great food! Â And the service was great as well. Â Had the challah french toast and it was as good as I've had anywhere. Â Will definitely go back soon. Â I think the new ownership has down a tremendous job turning the whole place around inside and out.
Review Source:My sister and I went to breakfast last Saturday and we really liked Jasper's. Â Clean! Â Very clean. Â They could use a touch of decor, but I can live with sparse. Â Service was terrific and the food was so fresh. Â Nice menu, lots of good choices and great prices for the quality and quantity. Â I actually took left overs home from breakfast (ok, granted, it was a little early for me but really, leftovers!). Â While I normally never order pancakes, they were offered as an alternative to toast. Â I have to say, these were some of the best pancakes ever. They use small eggs, so you are served four instead of two. Â Nice fresh fruit, good coffee and again, clean (can you tell I like clean?).
We will most assuredly go back. Â I'd like to try them for lunch as well. Â I wish they were open for dinner :)
As far as breakfast goes the corned beef and eggs were very good. 4 eggs cooked to order, decent hash browns and excellent pancakes instead of toast. Coffee cup always kept full. Good friendly service. Recent remodeling has the place looking clean, bright and fresh. Plently of parking.
