    I.Don't.Get.It.

This place is GROSS. First, there is a layer of filth on everything. Most symbolic representation of this is the "ad" for a "gourmet" cheese plate with wine for $7.95 taped to the counter COVERED in DIRT. MMMMmmmmm sounds appetizing. Second, it stinks inside (more on that below). Finally, the store is completely disorganized.

I went in on a Thursday night and the customers were drunk and acting stupid. The crowd reminded me of a class of 1990 high school reunion. You know, the type of people who were really "cool" back in the day and thought their good looks and charm would get them through. They were loud, obnoxious, and much too old to be acting like a bunch of drunken teenagers. Ugh.

The "smoking" patio really turns this place into a smoking establishment. The smoke came into the building and I felt like I was in a smoking bar from back in the day.

The layout of the store is chaotic. I felt like I was walking into someone's storage shed. It's not well lit and it's not easily distinguishable where you're supposed to order your food, pay for your food, etc.

The woman at the sandwich counter acted like she'd rather be eating my toe lint than making my sandwich. The sandwich was surprisingly good, although they put about a pound of meat on it.

Dang, this place is a hot mess.

Jiffy market is great for a burger and beers. Out of the way with friendly staff and good hours.

I live in North Eugene so Jiffy is not convenient for frequent visits, but I do make the trip when I need to stock up on wine.  It's worth the drive to walk in and get some great suggestions and a discount for case lots.

I can see how some could think this place is junky-looking.  Just at first glance, it looks sticky and just generally unclean.  The store is composed of haphazardly lit aisles of beer, energy drinks, soda, etc. and stacks and racks of wine enclosing the 6 tables in the center of the room.  There's also an outdoor patio area for a nice summer day.  This place is confusing because within its mess lies uncertainty.  Is it a place to study (because there's free wi-fi and people with laptops hang out here), a place to drink (as there are beers on tap), a restaurant (as there is a deli that serves burgers, fries, sandwiches, etc.), or a market (as there is decent selection of wine, plenty of beers and drinks)?  Maybe that's the appeal of this place.

I didn't have a problem with it because it looked clean enough for me-- just a little messy.  There weren't any critters in sight, so I was fine.  The Jiffy Market is a nice little nook in south Eugene.  A place to get a burger to go.  They have thick cut fries which are nice once in a while.

The burger itself was pretty good and decently priced as you get fries with it too, though I've had better elsewhere in Eugene.  The burger meat itself wasn't very hearty or tasty.  The lettuce, pickles and onions were fresh.  I think the thing I didn't like about this place was how the cashier asked me directly if I wanted to leave tip when I was paying for my order.

Let me explain how this works.  So you walk into the market.  To the immediate right is the "deli" where you order.  Then once you make your order, the person gives you a receipt then you take the tab to the cashier which is to the a few steps away to the left.  Then at that point you pay for your meal.  So I handed the cashier my credit card to pay for my meal, then he asked me if I wanted to leave tip and then he proceeded to explain why he asked, "because it doesn't print a line," he said.

I responded saying Oh.  But what was going on in my mind was, WHAT?  Really?  He wants me to leave tip on a TO GO ORDER?  Interesting.  Not only was my order to go, but I also had to walk over my receipt to the cashier.  Also, when I walked in, I had to asked to order.  I don't know.  I'm not against the idea of tip at all, but I'm not staying to eat, nor is anyone providing me any service what so over, other than cooking the food, which is what I'm paying for in the listed price.  Either way, I said no because I don't see why tip is necessary on a to-go order in which the cook just cooked the food, bagged it up and announced there were 2 cheeseburgers ready and left it on the counter.

The lack of enthusiasm and general assistance + to-go order didn't warrant a tip.  In this situation, I was offended that he even asked me if I wanted to leave tip.

I just moved even closer to this place, and I must admit, I can't wait for patio weather.  This is one of those hangouts that really adds value to a neighborhood.  If you want somewhere to chill that's cozy but isn't a bar, look no further.

    PROS:
    - Wonderful made-to-order sandwiches (dude, the halibut!) and burgers.  Smoked Gouda is a cheese option!
    - Great wine selection, given the space
    - Ninkasi on tap
    - Free WIFI
    - Chain-smoking regulars are usually considerate enough to refrain when someone is eating nearby.  Tables by the door are non-smoking.
-They sell locally made Chocolate Decadence products

    Potential CONS:
It's true that the place isn't always immaculate.  The vibe is similar to that of eating in a friend's kitchen - and hey, maybe they're not totally on top of things.  The eating areas are usually pretty clean.  The bathroom is hard to find and seems a bit sketchy, but I wouldn't call it dirty.

I was dismayed when they added the big TV, but most of the time the sound is not on, and I can just sit facing away from it.  The one time it was annoyingly loud, I politely asked the staff to turn it down and they muted it altogether.  YMMV if some some sporty thing is going on (but to those people, I say, "Get thee to The Old Pad up the street.")

The peanut curry dish was inedibly salty.  This might have been a fluke, but I'm too scared to try again.

A few times I got bad sandwiches (sloppily made, didn't include the toppings I requested) from one particular cook who seemed to have an attitude problem.  I haven't seen her around in awhile, so maybe she finally got the axe.  If I see her again, I'll be slightly disappointed, but even so, I'd grab a pre-made sandwich to heat up at home and some deviled eggs.

The idea behind the Jiffy Market is great.  They have everything you need, and it's convenient.  But have you every looked at how DIRTY it is.  IT IS AMAZING!!  There is dirt in every spot you look.  The chairs are dirty, the fan on the food counter is covered in grease and dust, there is dirt pushed into every corner, and buckets of black grease under the grill.  After I ordered my food I was afraid to eat it and threw it out.  When we commented to the owner on how dirty it was, he handed us a bottle of Windex and told us to clean it.  I can't believe this place would pass a health inspection if it had one.  Disgusting!!

Ditto all the other glowing reviews. I love to head here for their burger and a brew special (I think it's Monday or Wednesday nights, $8?). If you love a laid back atmosphere and wonderful deli/greasy grill type food, and pretty much any beer you can think of wanting, you must check it out. They also have a tv where we watch basketball games.

Selfishly, I hope it doesn't catch on too much so I can still get a table.

A little local place. HUGE assortment of wine & beer. Just moved here from Calif & tried the burgers based on the reviews.  Homemade patties. Big or bigger depends on who's at the grill.  Big assortment of sandwiches and a daily soup. Food was good, I'll be back.  Little patio outside and big screen TV inside. Looks like it has wi-fi too.

What a wonderful hole in the wall. Packed full of all sorts of wine. It's definitely a hodgepodge type of store, 1/3 convince store, 1/3 Deli Mart (which I have not tried yet but sounds yummy) and 1/3 wine cellar. I've bought wine several time here and am always happy with it.

The Jiffy Market is everything and anything you want it to be, stuff never changes but it's different every time you go. The kitchen area has really been an incubator for local foodies to expand a bit and try some different stuff. Everything from Ken's BBQ to Holy Cow to Tasty Thai have taken up residence in the tiny kitchen over the years. I don't know what's in there now but I do know two things that will never change while Tom and Joe are at the helm of this south Eugene institution:

    1) Their cold beer selection and hop covered deck in the summer are a combination that can't be beat.

and 2) The wine shelves are stocked and curated with a fine eye toward value, varietal and local Oregon producers.

This out of the way market is well worth the visit.

    "GIMME BACON OR GIMME DEATH"

Great place for a big burger and steak fries from the deli counter.  Peruse their excellent selection of wine and beer while you wait, and then down a pint while you attempt to finish the burger.  Pleasant atmosphere and usually some good sports or politics on the tube, too.

The only thing I can say that's a negative about Jiffy's deli is that they're horribly inconsistent when it comes to portion size (on both the fries and the sandwiches/burgers).  Some of the deli girls will give you a giant mountain of fries and what looks like a hundred strips of bacon on the bacon cheeseburger, while some will give you... well, not that.  :(

    Truly deserved 5.

From the outside this place looks like some crumby market you'd avoid and go to Dari Mart instead.  You've just made a critical error if you've ever passed this place up from the book cover.

The atmosphere is very cozy, and kind of dark inside.  It has an outside fenced smoking section, where you can eat under tree canopy.  There's a sign posted that if anyone is eating outside, that the smoker's should refrain.

As mentioned, the beer and wine selection is enormous.  you won't find another shop with greater selection of alcohol:space (I mentioned it was cozy...)  They even have plenty of refridgerators cooling a wide selection of drinks so they're ready to pop at the counter, and enjoy outside.

But the coup de gras is the deli counter.  Their sandwiches are large, and full of fresh and crunch.  The halibut sandwich was of a quality you wouldn't expect, unless you've eaten there before.  The small salad comes with heaps of turkey, avocado, onion, tomato... It's perhaps the best deal.

Have an hour and a half to kill?  Head down to Jiffy, drink a ninkasi on the porch after you've put your order in for a smoked gouda tuna sandwich (I've heard good things) and read the weekly.  Drink another ninkasi after the meal.

Three words- Stuffed Chicken Strips. My god, these are like crack, and even though they are on the menu, they are always out of them. Like one worker made them up, they caught on and only she makes them..Damn her!
Fantastic array of wines and beers. Great place to hang while your laundry is going next door at Spin City.
