This place is incredible, always has been. I have to wonder if the negative reviews are meant to shorten the wait for a table. For our money we personally like the antipasto della casa with it's mountain of sliced meats, cheeses, peperoncini, olives and ful. The complimentary bread basket amounts to a whole half loaf of freshly baked bread. We usually complete the meal with the caprese salad and a second glass of wine chosen from their extensive selection. The interior is cosy and unpretentious and the wait staff have always been professional and genuinely warm. What's not to love?
Review Source:I don't understand the hype around this place at all. The venue is super cute, but the food is pretty underwhelming and certainly isn't worth the price. I think B&G's gets away with a lot because there aren't any particularly worthwhile Italian restaurants in Eugene. You'll get better food at the Market of Choice deli down the street.
Review Source:I can't give this 2.5 start otherwise I would. It's definitely better than Olive Garden, but was seriously lacking in several regards. To start, don't wear your Christian Louboutin heels and park in the gravel parking lot :-/ Â
The inside was cozy & inviting and we were greeted promptly. Granted, we arrived for dinner just after 5 pm, so it wasn't very busy. Service was friendly initially, but when we ran into an issue with my entree being cold, I literally had to get up and walk across the restaurant to the bar to get our waitress as I got sick waiting while she continued (quite successfully I might add) at avoiding eye contact. She was professional, but clearly inconvenienced when I sent my food back - eggplant is disgusting lukewarm. She returned about 3 minutes later with my food, which was now over-microwaved. The edges were dry and chewy, but at least the eggplant was edible. This was one of two times in my entire life that my food has been bad enough to return to the kitchen. Bummer.
From the price of dinner & the great reviews, I was disappointed with my experience & would have GREATLY appreciated an offer of... anything really... to compensate for their cold food mistake. Instead, I got the feeling that the waitress was waiting for me to ask for my meal to be removed from the bill (which I did not) or that I would take my displeasure out on her tip (which I did not).
Overall, while I will be taking my business elsewhere for my next Italian meal, I'm glad I tried B & G's and my husband's lasagna was really good - I just don't think it's worth the hassle or money to try it again.
