Update: 2012-12-09:
visited 2nd time... and it was very consistent to my previous experience. Â Dishes were the same great taste. Â Consistent with previous visit, the salt in my dish was less... no biggie as I added it after the fact. Â I mentioned that to the waiter who promptly relayed it to the chef and the chef said that they would look into it.
We had Chicken Vindaloo... as mentioned in the menu, it was spicy and great taste. Â Just a note, the amount of rice that the dish came with was less quantity.
Ordered to-go for lunch (both Indian items):
Potato and Onion Bhajias
Traditional Chicken Curry entree
Considering that all of the waiters that I noticed were non-Indian, the items were amazing. Â They were authentic to a large extent. Â The chutneys (coconut with the bhajias) and peanut-based chutney with the entree were amazing. Â
The only gripe was with the chicken curry, it wasn't as spicy as expected... also it lacked some salt... we added it while eating and it had true Indian taste.
Was just disappointment they ran out of my first choice greek items like Kotta Pitta and Kotta Psiti (both are actually under lunch menu).
Overall a happy customer.
My wife and I have eaten here frequently over the past 5 years. We hadn't been for 4+ months because the quality was slipping. Â Well something changed because on our latest visit the quality and taste was really good. We will certainly be adding Poppi's back to our most visited restaurant list. Â We noticed the cook was different and we didn't recognize any of the staff. So there has certainly been turnover. Â
I love the combination of Greek and Indian food. Also the bread is top notch, we always end up eating the entire piece. My wife always orders from the Indian section and about 90% of the time it is the Thali platter. Â The curry and chutney is fantastic. Â I on the other hand order something different each time. Â This time it was the Pathia Prawns. Â The curry was nice and hot which is balanced with the sweetness of the pineapple. Â
A very Eugene place, quirky and fun.
