Best sangwich in town. Period.
Yes, it's a bold statement, but I think NYM's lives up to the hype by: (a) preparing all their own dressings/sauces, (b) roasting their own meats in house, (c) TAST(E)ing good, and (d) agreeing to place the contents of your sandwich inside of bread, wrap, lettuce wrap, or on top of a salad. As an added bonus, the proprietors participate in Lane County's RE: think program which, although not zero waste, promotes effective recycling, water saving, etc., and claim that they have no microwaves, freezers, or fryers on the premises!
NYM's is a small joint, but they manage to squeeze in a few tables and, if it's a nice day out, there are spots outside, too. They don't sneeze at you for ordering to-go, and waste is minimal when you do.
The sandwiches are HUGE. Tanaz P. has it right in the ode to the sweaty Italian. The Skinny-ish Italian (sub roast turkey for pepperoni) is fantastic, too, as is the TnT (Turkey n Tomato) and the Margherita. If you need accompaniments to your HUGE main, they sell those really great Zapp's chips and make cookie bars. MMMmmmmmm. Cookie bars.
Great lunch place in DTE!
I have yet to be disappointed with the quality of the sandwiches here. And if you time it correctly, you will always have a place to sit and enjoy a fresh made specialty sandwich. Add to that the price is well within the normal range and you have yourself a great combination. I would have to admit though, the parking sucks, especially on a not so nice day, or when it is busy.
