Picked this place off the internet because we were going to be in Mansfield around noon. Â I read the reviews and they were 50-50 good and not so hot. Â I looked at the menu and I saw a buffalo chicken sandwich that looked pretty good. Â When we got there the hostess was adorable and the service was great. Â Before we ordered I noticed the table next to us getting their food and asked our waitress if that was the buffalo chickan sandwich they were getting. It was so big and looked so good that it clinched what I was going to order and it was good. The rest of the food was great also. And the atmosphere was real nice. Â Now some other reviews say that some days they go and it's great and other times not so hot. Â I'm hoping when we go back we don't get the not so hot because the great was really great.
Review Source:This place is so small-town cute. It was packed on a Wednesday night around 7. There was no space at the bar so we took a table. We ordered food which took forever due to a large party that had come in, but they were very apologetic- and we didn't really care because our main focus was to get some badly-needed after work drinks. Nice pours. And we got free desserts because we waited so long. 4 stars for service, 3 stars for standard, filling pub food.
Review Source:This was my first time as this restaurant. Â From start to finish it was simply wonderful!! Â The hostess was very friendly when we entered and we were seated very quickly. Â Our waitress, Crystal, came over in moments. Â She was awesome! Â I can't say enough about this place! Â We started with the buffalo chicken Rangoons. Â They were served with a buffalo bleu cheese. Â They were cooked perfectly with the crunch and just enough heat. Â My husband enjoyed the large and diverse draft beer selection.
For dinner I ordered the baked haddock. Â I had it with mashed and acorn squash. Â Everything was flavored delicious!! Â My husband ordered the lobster rigatoni. Â We could not believe how much lobster they put in it! Â As hard as he tried he couldn't finish. Â My haddock was flaky and just right. Â
To finish we shared the apple pie. Â This was homemade, enormous, and left my mouth watering! Â They served a very generous portion with a side of french vanilla ice cream. Â
Overall this is a great place if you're looking for value and quality! Â Crystal was the best waitress I have had in a long time! Â I look forward to going back and hope we get her section again!
George? (I think that was his name), Jimmy's son was real cool. Â He gets 5 stars.
We went here for the Patriots home opener before ZBB. Â They were understaffed for the rush of customers who came in for that 3 hour time span.
The food gets 2 though. Â I got the Sausage Sub for 7 bucks and then later I got the Sirloin Steak tips because I'm a fat ass. Â Can't really critique that much because it wasn't worth remembering. haha.
Jimmy's is a sports bar/pub grub locus in downtown Mansfield. Â We've eaten here plenty of times, but I've never written a review because it's neither offensive nor particularly exciting...it's actually kind of hard to pin down. Â So let me try to briefly summarize:
- Great place to watch a football game while eating. A.
- Excellent fried appetizer ("pub pub") platter. A.
- Okay burgers and about 50 other plates. Â B+.
- A little on the expensive side. Â C.
- Hostesses/servers who are either great or disinterested. B.
It's really 3.5 stars, but with both grown-ups saying 3 stars and the kids saying 4, I'll point out it's not a democracy here: the parental votes win. As my wife said, "everything's cooked a little too rich and over the top, and the portions are a little too big, which is why it's a little more expensive." Still, it's worth visiting every once in a while, particularly on NFL Sunday.
Perhaps it's the economy or simply another case of taking the customer for granted.
We have enjoyed many a meal from Jimmy's in the past, usually take-out as I find their windowless main dining pit a bit too medieval. Tonight's $70 lite sup for 5 was uninspiring and barely filling. What brought me to these keys however, was their failure to include the promised cole-slaw with the fish & chips.
Wow, a whole side-order of slaw.. I know I know, but it's simple... take the order, print the order, fill the order and CHECK the order. I've come to expect errors at Mac's and Wendy's, but really.. if you're going to hold out your hand for $70 bucks, is it too much for you check the order ?
What lost them a customer however, wasn't the boring food or the missed stupid cole-slaw; it was the uncaring "opps sorry" I got when I called. "If ya want ta come back I can give you some".... Â Â Ain't likely to happen, ever.
My kids are right I guess, no one does care anymore.
Went to Jimmy's Pub last week for a rehearsal dinner. I didn't know what to expect judging by the website but was impressed upon entry. They had prepared a little menu featuring butternut squash ravioli in a cream sauce, NY Sirloin, baked haddock and grilled swordfish. All accompanied by soup or salad.
I opted for the haddock and it was done perfectly. Also, the Italian Wedding soup was delicious. We had an open bar and the waitress was on point with drink deliveries.
All in all,I'll be back here when in the area.
This is a great little towny spot! I've been here too many times to count and will all sorts of mixed company - dinner out with the family, beers and appetizers with anywhere from 3 to 6 friends, you name it! - and I've never had a bad meal or bad service.
I'd recommend the Monte Cristo sandwich which comes with steak fries that are always perfectly cooked and crispy. There's usually a beer special, but even if there isn't, the prices here are reasonable.
The only thing I'd say to avoid would be the "fancier" sounding entrees. Friends of mine have gotten both the chicken marsala and lobster ravioli and both times they regretted not sticking with simpler fare like a burger and fries.
When we lived in Mansfield we enjoyed dinners at Jimmy's very much. Â it is a laid back, casual atmosphere. Â The drink selection is decent and relatively cheap.
I was just about to rave about the Town Hall Special sandwich. Â It was a thing of beauty. Â To yelp accurately I checked the menu ... and it is GONE. Â That was my thursday night sandwich. Â My yelp rating is now switched from a 4-star to a 2-star. Â I will not be coming back to Jimmy's when I visit Mansfield next.
Their burgers are pretty consistent, and their fries are fine. Â Their version of the Monte Cristo is tasty in a artery clogging scary way. Â It's a good spot to head before hitting Tweeter Center events (it's far enough away so it won't get crowded). Â
Otherwise the rest of the menu items that I've tried are hit or miss. Â Pricing is a bit steep for what you get (pub grub). Â I'd give it a solid three stars if the pricing wasn't so out of line with the quality of the entrees.
They have a good draft beer selection and do a decent job of rotating in a couple of new offerings once in a while.
Some of the non-owner guys that tend the bar are cool and a lot of the regulars are the bar are cool and welcoming to newcomers.
I have to admit, most of the other reviews are right, this place is pretty average and inconsistent. I've been twice, and each time there was just nothing special. The food was better the first time, but seemed more expensive the second time. I too have seen the parking lot full of cars, but both times I went in there were no more than 4-5 other patrons. Drinks we ok, not very strong, but not watered down. There's just nothing to draw me in- other places in Mansfield have better food, or music, or pool tables, or better drinks, or more of a "fun" crowd. I really can't imagine going again.
Review Source:I went to Jimmy's last night with a friend. Â We arrived at 9:30 and the bar was packed and there were a few people in the dining room, where we were. Â My friend got a French Dip sandwich and I got the Monte Cristo, which was done similarly to the Bennigan's version (but not as good as Bennigan's). Â We also got a few beers: Newcastle and Hennepin both on tap, nice! Â Around 11 the bar suddenly cleared out. Â I guess people go to bed early in Mansfield. Â Around 11:45 the staff began turning out all the lights. Â Ok, time to go! Â (damn early-closing everything in MA) It seemed ok and it's nice to have a place to get some food late in Mansfield, but this place isn't on the top of my list to visit again.
Review Source:2 stars sums it up. Â Meh. Â I've experienced better. Â I've had average burgers here, that's about it. Â I wondered why the place is always busy. Â I'm still wondering.
A window or two wouldn't hurt either. Â I'm pretty sure there are none.
Parking lot is always jammed on Friday and Saturday night. Â ?
I agree that this is the most over-rated and over-visited bar I have ever been to. Â My wife insists on saying yes when other couples invite us out and pick this place to go to. Â The food is over-priced and mediocre to say the least. Â The bar-tender thinks it's funny to be abrassive. Â If I want abrassive I'll go into Boston in Fanieul Hall, what's the name of the place where the watresses do that on purpose. Â In the center of Mansfield, it's not funny especially when I don't like the place and I am forced to socialize there. Â If I never went there again, I wouldn't miss it!
Review Source:I like Jimmy's, but the quality is inconsistent. Â Sometimes you can go in and have a great meal, and other times get the same dish, but it doesn't taste as good. Â A little pricey for pub fare. Â Still, there's something about that place that makes it worth coming back to every now and again.
