Great dive bar, used to have a killer Thursday dance night filled with scad hipsters and great music. The staff are all tattooed up and can be a little pretentious to those without tats, but whatever. Ladies nights rule but dont buy a drink for a dude or your ass will get thrown out.

Absolutely wonderful place! No cover for karaoke on a Friday night. Awesome biker bartender made me a strong gin and tonic for $5. My girlfriends all went for the shot of wild turkey and can of PBR for $7. We stayed for hours and hours and the scene only got better, more fun and lively as more people showed up. HUGE diversity of crowd, from the arty SCAD students to a more preppy drunken lot to a bunch of bachelorettes to tattooed regulars. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

My husband and I stopped in while vacationing in Savannah, assuming it would be one of many hops, as we were delighted to be able to walk from place to place with drinks in hand.

The grunge, alternative, slightly goth vibe doesn't generally suit my non-tattooed, non-body pierced image, but we were intrigued by the music and warmly greeted. I immediately struck up conversation with the bartenders about the music they were selecting from their personal Ipods at the bar. The sound was not too loud, but good quality - their playing devices must have been wired into the bar's speakers. The drinks were strong and the bartenders didn't make me feel clueless when I asked "who's this you're playing" repeatedly. They also played things they thought I might like based on our conversation.

The bar filled later with a broad mix of all kinds of generally nice people. I sat next to a man from England. Thursday night was rock n' roll bingo night, and everyone seemed as enthused as I was at the prospect. I am not old, but am a rockin' granny at heart.

What we thought would be a quick stop amongst many became our only stop of the evening. I highly recommend The Jinx for an unusually good time.

Every year on New Year's Eve, I try my darnedest to recreate the end-of-the-year energy achieved in the movie 200 Cigarettes. It's all about meeting the most unusual characters, pop kissing random strangers, cheersing to past transgressions, singing at the top of your lungs, smoking a few cigarettes despite the fact that you don't smoke cigarettes, and covering yourself in a pool of shimmery body glitter. That's the kind of New Year's experience that's ready to set you straight into a whirlwind of 2012 trouble.

My mate and I made our way into the Savannah night with a quiet understanding that we were in search of just this kind of special, unique, and unpredictable night.

The swarms of people on the street pointed to the fact that we weren't alone and after catching a hint of Prince, my date insisted we pay the meager $3 cover to enter The Jinx: a dive bar committed to setting our asses in motion. With Motorhead looking bartenders and a crowd as diverse as my record collection (Indian, black, gay, white, hipster, nerd, southern boys, you name it), it was perfect medley of group love.

I felt like I was nowhere familiar and yet if I were to open a fun, funky dive bar, this would be pretty dead on. Our collective farewell to 2011 was a just one. Now where are my panties?

Sweet spot!  Saw some great old country music.  Saturday afternoon was great, felt quaint and out of the way.  Sat night got a little too much, with all the tourists taking over the town.

    Cool vibe.

Great, old bar with both a local and touristy feel.

There's a small back patio where people go to smoke their cigarettes.  I sat out there with my girl friend while she smoked a cig and struck up some cool conversations with a couple of locals and a couple of tourists.

Laid back atmosphere, strong drinks and plenty of fun to go around.

On vacation and I just popped in for a drink a little after 5. Cheap drinks, nice staff. And it's happy hour. Even better.

Great place to see (or play) a show.  Bouncers were a little intense, but that's their job.  Better that than aloof.

I had a chance to interact with the owner a little bit, and she was lovely and obviously really passionate about the business she's in.  She authorized the bartender (also friendly) to bring me a top-shelf birthday drink and then wished me a happy birthday everytime she passed me by throughout the evening.

Overall a well-run place, good atmosphere, and I'd definitely come back for a show if I was local.

I love the Jinx. My old band played here several times and I rate the bar in my top 5 places I've ever visited on the road. Of course it's full of bats and rock posters, so how could I *not* love it? It's just a perfect place to see local and independent bands. They usually get started late here, so don't show up early unless you have some great company to pass the time with.

The staff is so nice and helpful and spot on with speed and accuracy on the drinks. The same people have been working here for ages and they have a professional rhythm that is appreciated by patrons and players alike.

Word of warning - if you didn't drink Wild Turkey before you started coming to the Jinx, you'll be a pro before you leave. Enjoy!

The Jinx, where white people come to meet their white friends to cirlce up and sip out of their straws.

Seriously. You walk in and all you see are circles of people bobbing their head in their drink looking for the 'coffee' straw.
Came on a Thursday and the music was alright. It was a bit all over the place which is kind of typical in this city. From Oldies to Miley Cyrus..really? yes.
At one point there was a single guy on the stage who looked straight out of the movie 'Vote For Pedro' dancing to 'Push It' and it was truly a sight to see. Apparently he is a regular.

    Oh, I will be back.

I've been here when it's empty and I've been here when it's packed...and I'm not sure which I prefer.  This space is essentially just a big open box, so when it's dead, it feels *really* dead...and then you start looking around and taking note of how disgusting this place is.  You start giving the roaches names, and trying to convince them to wrestle.  But when it's packed, it's a hell of a lot of fun, and you're then thankful that it's such a large space.  But even with it having such high ceilings, the last time I was there, the smoke was all the way down to the floor.  It looked like someone had been running a fog machine...but it was all just cigarette and cigar smoke.  I'm a former smoker, and I'm not opposed to other people smoking...in fact, I'm all for smoking in bars...the two naturally go together, as far as I'm concerned.  But jumpin' Jesus on a Pogo Stick...please get some sort of ventilation device up in this bitch!  Fer reals.

The drinks are cheap, the staff are really friendly, and the (mostly SCAD) gals who hang out here are cute.  What more do you want out of a bar???

Damon & the Shitkickers play here pretty regularly.  If you get the chance to see them, do so.  They always put on a good show.

Just be warned...Thursday is gay-ass dance party night.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I LOVE the Jinx, but I will say right off the bat that I only go on Thursday nights. They have different things going on there every night, but Thursdays are always dance nights! It's smokey, crowded, and HOT. Be prepared to have something spilled on you and to sweat like crazy, and if I'm making it sound horrible, it's completely by accident. All the crazy little quirks about this place that would drive some people away are totally what make this place great! It's in a great location (next to brand new Ellis Square, which has sprinklers going sometimes at about 2am, which is a nice way to cool off after dancing your butt off at the Jinx, down the block from Sweet Melissa's, which is totally great after a night of cheap booze, and nearby tons of other places to go if your posse wants to mobilize). Great place to go, just be prepared to sweat like crazy! Oh and don't worry too much about what you wear, anything goes at the Jinx!

Awesome on Thursdays for their Ladies Night dance party.  $1 drinks just can't be passed up, unless you are in fact a guy.  Not much space to sit but plenty of space to dance.  They may ask for a "donation" cover for the DJs.  Bathrooms have interesting wallpaper.

So, I helped my friend move from Oakland Ca to Savannah. I kinda felt out of place in Georgia and was feeling homesick for Oakland......until I walked into the Jinx! Good music, leather clad patrons, and a High on Fire poster on the wall! The drinks were a little weak.......but well worth every penny. I left feeling drunk and happy. AHHHH.... I love the Jinx and wish I were there right now.

I lived in Savannah for 2 years and the Jinx became a staple of my weekend. Every single thursday my comrades and I would mosey on over to Pinkies and then continue onto the Jinx for late night dancing.  As a born and bred californian the indoor smoking threw me at first but after a while it became a good break from all the drinking. The booze flows quickly and is cheep (especially for women on thursday nights) and the DJs would spin any ol' crappy hit that was popular that week. this is good for the hipsters that congregate as they get to bump and grind to such favorites as prince, micheal jackson, and nelly furtado. the quality of DJ seemed to disintegrate fairly quickly and often i could have spun better than them. But it was the best place to dance until 4am and get so drunk you couldn't bike home, and for that, i miss it with my entire heart.

for the out-of-towners: you know how popular/awesome a place is by the number of bikes parked outside. and when you find drunk art students haphazardly locking their bikes to trash cans, you know it'll be a good night.

It has it's moments. That's pretty much it.

The Jinx seems like an underuse of a good space.  I remember good opportunities here when it was still the Velvet Elvis but now it just seems a bit stagnant.  Sure, you'll get a punkier vibe there than you will at most spots in Savannah, but I felt like it could be so much more.  It was also really, really cold the last time that I went in.

I don't mind Jinx, the problem I have is it was more fun under the Velvet Elvis banner, and had more options ... the got rid of a few good video games they had there, they used to have Guitar Hero on stage, now they have bands more often than not, and the bands, although ok, are a werid mix of SKA-country cross-over that drowns out any conversation you may have been having.

Usual band followers show up on various nights, so the crowds tend to be more orientated towards the band performing than just hanging out and socializing.

I have been going here for years, this past year was a major disappointment.

I love the Jinx (formerly Velvet Elvis) for live music in Savannah.  Bands like Bleu, Angie Aparo, and Flogging Molly have performed there.

I've made it out there a couple of times outside of going to see a show, and I've enjoyed it.  The last time I was there, it was a dance party, which was a blast.

It's also in a great location; it's neighboring a couple of other bars, and it's a 5 minute walk over to River Street or a 10 minute walk to McDonough's.

This is one of my favorite finds from my Savannah trip in April.  I met some great people who I am still in touch with almost 3 months later.

On Tuesday night it was a hip hop and popping dance thing followed by a rap contest that was great to watch.  Then, there was some general dancing after that.

When I went back on Thursday night it was PACKED, and had a nice dance crowd.

It's a total dive bar, and I loved it.

I am giving them 5-stars for the excellent karaoke experience we had in town. My family and I met up in Savannah for Thanksgiving and were trying to find someplace with karaoke (McDonough's was shut down due to a fire, which was the place we were originally steered toward). We had nearly given up when we walked by Jinx. They had a GREAT songlist, a really fun and friendly staff (including the burly biker bartender who busted out with an amazing Journey rendition) and a good selection of beers and drinks (with reasonable prices).

The place has kind of a dive feel to it, but in a good way, and the service is miles better than most up the upscale joints we usually frequent.

By far one of the edgiest bars in town.  Dare I say a punk bar.  Cheap drinks and friendly staff.  Check it on on Thursdays for low key dj work and they have plenty of live events.
