We have ordered from Joe's three times now per the advice of a neighborhood friend and I think I'm sufficiently ready to write a review. Â
The first couple times we ordered sausage and mushroom pizzas. Â They were good, a little greasy, but good. Â
Tonight my dear husband, who is horrified by the idea of BLT pizza, was out and I decided I would give it a try on my own. Â Sweet Jesus, I'm 7 months pregnant and I'm so thankful I didn't find this earlier because I would have gained a bazillion pounds consuming these every night. Â As it is, I'm going to have to use some serious self control and not get another one tomorrow. Â The BLT pizza was all I dreamed it would be and more. Â My order tonight boosted this from a "meh" three star rating to a solid 4. Â You gotta try it.
Edited to add: My husband came home and polished off the rest of my pizza and pronounced it, "AMAZING!". Â We're ordering another one tonight.
The BLT 'zza....so good I could marry it!
Been supporting this neighborhood pizzeria for about 2 years now. And as adventurous of an eater that I am, I'm spool happy with our weekly order of the BLT pizza and mozzarella sticks.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The crust is thin and light and savory. The chopped veggies are fresh and plentiful. And they top it off with the right amount of creamy mayo topped by perfectly baked cheese.
The dine-in area is small but charming and serviced by very friendly waitresses (as far as I know, there are only two and they both are great at remembering customers).
On the downside, there isn't much room so unless you're OK with noise and being a bit crowded don't try to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night.
My family has been ordering from Joes Pizza since we moved to Jefferson Park in 88 when I was in second grade. The pizza was great and I always ranked all other pizza's against Joes. Their pan and thin crust were both great. Every time that I came home to visit I always requested Joes. I have to note that ever since they remodeled (probably 1+ years ago) the pizza has lost its appeal. They are using a different crust for the thin crust and they have definitely cut back on the cheese and toppings. I recently ordered the pan pizza and it now tastes like a Pizza Hut pizza but worse. I asked my entire family if they thought that the quality has gotten worse and they confirmed my observation. It's still run by the same family and the staff is still friendly as ever but I wish that they went back to their original pizza receipts. The pictures do not do justice to the location, they did a fine job in the recent renovation and this is definitely a family friendly restaurant. As you can see that I am torn from what I remember as a child and what my taste buds are telling me now.
Review Source:I had a sausage thin crust pizza for dinner.
I thought the pizza was really good. The crust was nice and crunchy. The sauce had a very nice flavor. It was a great blend of spices. The toppings were fresh. The sausage was very good. The only minor issue may be the slight amount of oil on the surface of the pizza.
I also had a chance to try the Italian Sausage sandwich and fries. Â The Italian sausage sandwich was good. Â The sausage had good flavor. The sandwich could have used a little more sauce. Â The fries were just ok. They were the crinkle cut type which I normally really like, but these seemed more like oven baked fries.
I keeping my 4 star review based on the very good pizza!
The place is very clean and looks new. Â The people were friendly. Parking wasn't a problem. The price was right.
I will be returning!
I was very disappointed with the service last night.  The thin crust pizza I ordered arrived with most of the toppings on the side of the box. I understand pizzas can get messed up sometimes but this was bad. I called and explained the situation and requested a new one in exchange for the messy one. They were apologetic and said we would have it in half an hour to 40 minutes. I had to call 3 times to see where the pizza was. Then unfortunately they advised me of the fact that the driver had other stops to make first . . . Really? I originally ordered my pizza at 5:45pm and didn't get the replacement pizza until  almost 8pm. Not only did I get my pizza late but it didn't taste as good as it has in the past and no compensation whatsoever for the inconvenience. I was a regular customer but will not order from them again.  Looks like I'm in search of a new pizza place.
Review Source:When my bf and I first started dating 3 years ago, he raved about this pizza place. One of our most memorable dates is when we ordered Joe's pizza and wings and watched Die Hard. Over the years, we've continued to order from them, but recently they've really messed up our orders, and we are not ordering from them anymore.
In the past year, we've ordered from them at least 10 times and each time, there's always something wrong with our delivery order. One time they forgot our ranch sauce, then the next time, we got BBQ wings instead of hot, then the next time the pizza was WAY underdone, and today our pizza arrived ice cold. The amount of times they've messed up our order has just become unacceptable, and we don't want to have to go there and pick it up just to make sure they get our order right. Sorry Joe's but we're going to have to call it quits. At least Pizza Hut gets their orders right.
Thin crust is decent from here. Nothing crazy good, but worth trying out if youre burned out on all the other horrible pizza options in Jefferson Park.
Order a huge batch of wings naked and sauce on the side. Destroy the wings and be proud of yourself for getting one day closer to a heart attack.
I grew up on joes pizza, and I can honestly say it has taken a turn for the worst over the last few years. The pizza is what they were always known for and I have no idea what exactly changed but it's approaching cardboard pizza quality. Â The last few times I ordered I it arrived cold and burnt at that. No point in calling to complain cause if your lucky they will g vie ya a partial credit but who wants more junk. I just patronize Petes 2, dinos, sanos, or giordanos...
Review Source:I've Been getting pizza here since I was a kid !!! I feel like I'm 12 yrs old everytime I eat this stuff. I find myself eating like I'll never see the stuff again. I've never had a problem with my orders. But, I usually stick with ordering just pizza. It always arrives hot, even in below 0 weather. I've stayed away for a year at a time just because life happens. But when the pizza mood hits and I order; it's like no time lost between two friends.
Review Source:Picked up some pizza and mozz-sticks for a recent movie night. Â We had the green pepper and 'shroom pizza, well done. Â The pizza was awesome! Â Crispy thin crust, tasty mild sauce, good amount of toppings, fresh and hot out of the oven. Â A 14'' fed two hungry kids with a few pieces left over for a midnight snack or breakfast the next day. Â The sticks were pretty good too; they were very crunchy and the cheese wasn't surface-of-the-sun, 3rd-degree-burns-on-my-mouth hot like it normally is at other places.
Review Source:I've been ordering from Joe's since I was a kid and to this day I love their food. It's not AMAZING pizza or anything but it's good and it's local. Their chicken fingers are heavenly! They might be a bit pricy on everything that isn't pizza but I don't really order a whole lot else. The delivery guys are nice and usually quick. The only knock I have is 2 of the 3 people that answer the phone really aren't pleasant. The lady that answers the phone usually sounds like you're bothering her and she's taking time from doing something else to "deal" with you. The guy that answers the phone couldn't care less and just tries to rush the order and doesn't spend a second longer than he has to on the call. The younger girl that answers is actually helpful and friendly. I find myself crossing my fingers hoping she's the one on the phones that day! All that aside, the food is good and I recommend it.
Review Source:I live down the block from Joe's so I am close by and have eaten there several times. I would recommend this place to anyone with an appetite. I love the Chicken Vesuvio, it melts in your mouth. The special pizza, deep dish, although it takes longer, is out of this world and worth the wait. This is a reasonably priced restaurant, nice atmosphere, and even has a few good wine selections.
Review Source:I debated between 2 and 3 stars, and went one up because the eggplant was pretty tasty, and the prices are VERY nice. Â The biggest issue for me was that all of the pasta dishes ordered by our party were way overcooked and mushy. Â The sauces were decent considering the rock bottom prices, but come on, it's not that difficult to make the pasta al dente, is it? Â
Nice, clean, remodeled space, and friendly service. Â Don't go out of your way, but if you live nearby, it's a decent option.
Pizza, pretty good, but not unlike any number of local pizza joints. Â If you're dying for pizza, it's worth it to go to Pizza By Alex.
Great thin crust pizza, at least that's what we order. Â Our usual is a garlic and ricotta pizza and they do it all. Â Fast service and delivery, though we only live about 4 blocks away. Â Joes is always good for a fresh salad too. Â
We held a birthday party at Joes with about 20 people, they were outstanding and accommodating, they even added an extra server for the afternoon. Â Friendly staff and with the recent remodeling, a more efficient seating layout and a pretty snazzy place to eat.
Ok- yum. Had Joe's pizza at a friends house and decided we needed to go check it out ourselves. We did, ate in had pizza and the gnocchi- all good! Took a slice of cheesecake to go. Service was great, Christine was our waitress. The place looks brand new- just got a makeover. Comfortable. Tons of flat screens too.
We will be back and ordering delivery for sure!
In my search for consistently good thin crust, I always come back to Joe's. I've been ordering from Joe's for about fifteen years. It's a rock. That was a remark on the reliability of the establishment, not the make-up of the pizza. Every now and then the sauce will be a little too sweet. When talking food, someone will suggest trying someplace else. We will. It will be lackluster. The next time, sure enough, we get Joe's .
Lot's of cheese, a decent amount of grease, quick delivery, and get this, A STAFF THAT ACTUALLY SPEAKS ENGLISH!!! Well goddam, that makes this place downright retro.
So yeah, if youi're into a good cheesy fast retro vintage pizza experience, eat at Joe's.
Regular customer (at least once per week). Â Their pizza, thin crust or pan, is very good. Â Have tried the sausage, pepperoni, black olive and fresh tomato as well as plain cheese--all tasty. Â Order the ravioli and receive 5 LARGE ravioli with PLENTY of sauce and a side of grated cheese and bread. Â Mostacioli and lasagna also come in large-sized portions. Â The eggplant parmesan is delicious. Â Have also enjoyed the cheeseburger deluxe and sausage sandwich. Â Pick it up or have it delivered piping hot. Â Save 20 menus for a free small cheese pizza. Â Their recently remodeled dining room is pleasant and usually not too crowded. Â It is still casual dining--basically the same food as is served on the carry-out menu. Â Soda pop is served in cans (no free refills, but they carry a large variety of brands of soda).
Review Source:Excellent family Restaurant. Â My children are teens now and have been eating your pizza since they were toddlers. Â I have lived in Jefferson Park for 15 years and always order from Joes. Â Friday nights are a treat for my family and me. Â Delivery service is great on those cold winter nights when you just want to relax with a good pizza. Â I will not order my pizza from another place. Â Watch ou Pizza Hut and Dominos.
Maria V and Family
Wow!!!! We actually found a place in Norwood Park that didn't suck. Joe's is a tasty Oasis in this normally bland, Eastern European Geriatric ward.
We ordered a pepper and Cheese pizza which was out of this world. The Jalapenos really mixed well with the Red peppers and Cheese. When it comes to Pizza, I'm a total Carnivore, but this meatless delight really surprised me.
Maria T. You really picked a winner with this place. I can't wait to see what other kinds of Za we can try.
I have to say, I have lived in Norwood Park for almost 10 years now (gulp) and I had never heard of, much less tried, Joe's until one night out Maria T raved about how great it was. Â So the next time we wanted pizza, I thought of giving Joe's a try.
I couldnt find a menu online so when I called I ordered the old standby, pepperoni. Â It came within the hour they quoted and while it was good, I wasnt sure it rated the high rating I had heard about. Â
Fast forward a month, when it became pizza night again. Â I now have a Joe's menu and decide to give it another try. Â This time, I now know they offer jalpenos and together with red bell pepper, arrived a pizza of truly fanastic quality, with a great flavour and thin (and not crackery) crust. For this area where virtually noone delivers, this has been a godsend find. Â
Thank you Maria! Â Thank you Joe's!
I've lived in Jefferson Park my entire life, and have been eating at Joe's since I was a little kid...I used to rave about this place, and my parents always got their Friday night pizza from there, but no more. Â The last several years, they have really started to take a turn for the worse. Â I live three blocks down Mango (cross-street off Higgins) and it took them over an hour to deliver a pizza and Italian beef sandwich. Â Then to boot, they forgot the fries that came with the sandwich. Â Seriously? Â
The last time I ordered from them, I asked for easy cheese and extra cooked (like another Yelper, I find they undercook and the cheese is relentless), and the chick on the phone sounded truly ticked off. Â I should have hung up right there and went somewhere else, but I persevered. Â I also ordered onion rings and a salad as there were four of us. Â When it arrived, the pizza was underdone, as usual, we opened up the onion rings, and there were FOUR, literally FOUR little onion rings in the basket. Â I called to ask what happened and their response? Â "Oh, we do half orders on all sides now." Â You WHAT? Â I said you sure didn't charge me half! Â She said well, next time we'll give you a free order, I said forget you, there won't be another next time. Â I told her I have guests over and now I looking like an idiot giving each person one f**king onion ring. Â
I have been eating at Joe's for about 25 years, and it breaks my heart to see them go this way. Â Bad service, bad delivery, prices going up, and the pizza just sucks. Â I started going to Dino's further north on Higgins and while their pizza is nothing to dance about, it's very tasty and their side dish portions are freakin huge.
I usually order their baked mostaccioli because it's so good. Â I decided to try their pizza. Â I ordered a thin crust and sad to say it was just okay. Â The pizza was barely baked, yet greasy, and there was way too much cheese. Â You know that it wasn't cooked long enough b/c the cheese didn't string like it normally does on any pizza. Â The service wasn't friendly and could care less for the business. Â I'm willing to try it again but I will make sure to ask them for easy cheese and to semi-burn the pizza. Â Maybe then it will be fully cooked.
Review Source:Friends, I know I'm going to catch hell becasue Joe's is local and a staple in our neighborhood, but I just don't find it that good. Â I live right by st constance so I'm very close to Joe's and delivery still takes 45-60 min? Â but onto the pizza. Â All these places have other foods, burgers, wings, etc. But since pizza is in the name, my stars are about the pizza, nothing else. Â I really find the sauce kinda bland and the dough a little too thick for the pizza they are trying to accomplish. Â It seems like Joe's Pizza is really a Pete's #2 Pizza wannabe. Â For this neighborhood place, I give their pizza 2 stars. Â Pasta specials are ok, also 2 starts, but in this area i would probably pick roselli's first for pasta and dinos' for pizza. Also, way too much cornmeal on the bottom of these pies.
Review Source:I'm not as big a fan of the pizza here as some of my friends are, its not bad at all, just like another place better. You could do worst though for sure. Small dining room, a mom and pop type of place. I'm a fan of the panzerotti more so than their pizza. Typical offerings, beef, sausage, pizza, etc.
Review Source:This is one of the best "Mom and Pop" Pizza places on the NW side. The key to getting the food right for most Italian dishes is the red sauce, Joe's got it down. It is consistently awesome. It is reasonable and a very down to earth place. The pasta with meat sauce is my favorite from here.
Review Source:A very special place to me. Â Great food, friendly staff and always-reliable delivery service. The pizza and pasta are excellent and one of my fave foods around. Â The dining area is really cute and comfy with pix on the walls of everyone from old-time movie stars and the 3 Stooges (nyuk nyuk) to classic films and legendary icons.
