I won't sugar coat it this place is bad, waiters just coasted right past my friends, boyfriend, and myself. we waited for more than half hour without a second glance. Finally I got fed up enough to go ask for a hookah flavor menu, I got gawked at and was told "what menu? there are three flavors" Oh my mistake, I thought this was a hookah bar? those tend to have options, not this one. Save your time, aggravation, and money. Find a better place to get hookah.

I was a little worried after seeing the mostly meh reviews about this place. There was a special $10 for $20 promotion so me and the gf took a chance and were pleasantly surprised.

She ordered a chicken dish and I ordered a lamb dish. Both were extremely flavorful. The waiter was also very attentive and atmosphere was perfect.

Just a sidenote, this review is only for the restaurant portion, not the hookah lounge. I would not recommend the hookah portion to anyone. It's overpriced, has a limited selection of sheesha, and the lounge is drafty, cold and has too much lighting.

Should not have more than a star. No customer when I was there. So, this star is for the table and atmosphere in there.
I ordered rack of lamb and rfissa. After 10 mins wait, I decide to order soup cos I think lamb would take long time to cook.
Harira soup was too light and no beef in it, chick pea was hard, and have only 2 pieces of onion.
Then after, rfissa came, I was so disappointed. Seems like chef pour salt in it so much. Server leaned at the counter and no water for me.
Rack of lamb came. I ordered well done. It came medium.
I decided to wrap up and go home.
Once, I gave my server $20 groupon coupon and my debit card.
He came back and said that manager won't accept because it should be $40 before oct 10. But I told him $20 never expired till I redeemed it.
I asked server to see manager. He ended up saying that he would give me this time only( I told him never have second chance to u) and asked that guy to face me. My friend stopped me. We paid and went out.
It was bad experience. The restaurant should not put the promotion over groupon if u want to get somebody money for free. Not even try it.

Disappointing experience! Service was ok but food was lousy and expensive. Skip the paella - for $22 u get flavorless rice calamari and rubbery mussels. Not horrible but totally not worth it.

Great Moroccan themed restaurant! Good food and live entertainment at times. I have been here a number of times the service and food is consistently good. They have a hooka lounge in the back room for those who want to have a flavored smoke. Usually after 10pm the belly dancer will go around for a while depending on how busy it is. There is bar and table seating, large screen tv's for watching sporting events.

Belly dancing n the hookah was o.k.. Music was a bit loud initially and better at night.. Don't expect too much n u might be fine..

If you're looking for a low key dinner and drinks, the bar is the place to sit. The bar tender Rebecca really knew the menu and was superb at suggestions.  We had some of the tapas and she made delicious drinks.  She was awesome to be around as well.

The decor and frankly the whole experience was cool. The belly dancer really set the ambiance.

I recommend this place!  I'm going for my birthday.

    See you guys there:)

Very nice.  I'd skip the Tapas and stick with the moroccan fare which seems more consistenly good.  Also, it always seems cold in there to me.  But good for a fun more exotic adventure.  The sangria is very good.

We came to the Kasbah for my mother's birthday. I was hesitant because of some of the reviews, but I have to agree with Liane. The atmosphere was great, the food was fresh and authentic, and the attention from the waitstaff was exceptional. They didn't hesitate to answer questions or make recommendations.

There were 8 of us, and we were there early - so we didn't experience ladies' night or the belly dancers, but after our night there, I want to go back.

The Soup Harira, tomato based with pureed chickpeas and lentils and a hint of saffron, was delicate and just the right amount of spiciness. The 'cigars', which are kind of like Moroccan versions of spring rolls, were filled with ground meat with a little olive oil drizzled on them. They came to the table nice and hot and flaky.

But on to the calamari. I don't know that it's really a Moroccan dish, but it was crispy and tender and hot. Alongside a tapas of fresh-that-day littleneck clams, we were full! But, we had to have the roasted eggplant and roasted red pepper appetizer - or maybe it was a tapas. Served side by side and best eaten on pita, these spreads were really yummy, and those in our party who weren't sure about 'Moroccan' food really enjoyed them. We stuck to tapas and appetizers, but next time I want to try one of the meals.

Each pair split a crepe with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream for dessert, nicely presented on a long plate making it easy to share. For our birthday girl, Chef Nassar even remembered the candle.

As for drinks, I am a little suspect of a cocktail called the Deer Island, only because I grew up in Winthrop and remember it as the location for a prison and obsolete sewage treatment plant. It's all cleaned up and pretty now (worth a visit for the great views of Boston). Maybe I'll try it next time. This time, the lemon martini and some Prosecco, along with some house wines, all seemed to satisfy the adults in our group.

It was obvious to us that chef/owner Nassar really enjoys preparing his excellent, authentic, and beautifully presented food. He stopped by several times and was happy to answer questions about his favorites (anything he 'feels like making that day') and suggested the lamb tagine the next time we go.

    Can't wait!

I went here to see a friend bellydance - and decided to stay for dinner.

The food was meh - some dishes were cold...some dishes had no taste...others were amazing. Very hit or miss.

The location was fine, parking was no problem and the decor was nice.

Then we get to the staff...our waiter was creepy and the bartender was even worse. Neither my friends nor I liked the vibe we got - so we left right after paying for our meal. Not someplace you want to hang out in! It's too bad- there are not many places for bellydancing with this kind of decor - I wish it was a nicer place!

This place is OK. I wanted to try something different for dinner and saw this place which looked cool and had belly dancing on Fridays so we made a trip.

I went on a Friday night and the place was pretty empty. They have a menu with tapas and then Moroccan traditional dishes. They do a tapas deal with four for $16.95 or most are priced $5.50 each. My boyfriend decided to do that and got the calamari, garlic shrimp, Moroccan cigar, and Mediterranean meatballs. They took a while to come out but were very good. The Moroccan cigar was my favorite. Before the tapas, the pita and oil brought to the table is excellent and kind of an appetizer in itself.

I decided to get the Tagine Djaj (Morocco's world famous dish)
It was beef braised with olives, onions, preserved lemon, in a ginger saffron sauce topped with fries. The sauce was tasty but the beef was extremely fatty. There wasn't much meat to consume. I couldn't really enjoy it and mentioned it to the manager who nicely apologized and and took it off the bill while offering to make something else. We had been in there for a while, waiting for the food so I passed on a new entree. Also my fries were the frozen crinkle cut fries. I was very turned off by that as it looked like a kids meal and not what I would of expected for an authentic dish at a Moroccan place. I suggested to the manager not using them for his dishes. Even normal flat fries would of been OK but the Mc Cain crinkle cut is not the way to go.

In the end with the manager being accommodating, I would go back for the tapas. The sangria was excellent and served in a very large glass.

Now I have only been there once but it was GREAT!!! I loved it! We got this app. that had all this different stuff on it! IT WAS GREAT. We had a bottle of red wine with it that was great. Then for dessert we had the moroccon crepes and they were so good! There was a great belly dancer and musicians who play arabic songs on request! My girlfriend I went with is Egyptian and requested a song and sang along when they played it! All in all great night! I am totally going back!  I loved it! And the staff was GREAT!

Okay...I'm basing my review on a very weird night that happened during the end of summer.  It basically started with a visiting friend from Florida, and his old-college buddy who is now an undertaker, and driving in a hearse, to meet her friend at Kasbah.  Like I said - weird.  We didn't eat anything so I have no comments on the food, but we did partake in the hookahs (if I remember correctly...peach-flavored?), drank lots of sangria, and took tons of smoky pics with the resident belly-dancer.  It was an all too fun, totally bizarre night.  I feel like if I went back to Kasbah in the daytime my experience would not be anywhere close to the dark velvet-covered images in my mind.

It's hard to believe that Winthrop has anything this cool.  Been here about a half-dozen times, sometimes for dinner and drinks, sometimes just for drinks, and never had a bad time (maybe it's because of the people I am with, who knows).  It's fun to wallow in the deep cushions w/a hookah pipe and pretend to be a British colonial in Marrakech (ummm, yeah).

I love their lamb with couscous and raisins and all that jazz. Look around the menu for it - it's seriously the best thing on their menu.

Kasbah is ALWAYS empty whenever I go... and the waitstaff is always new, and they're always training someone new whenever I go. And service is always substandard.

But whatevs, give me wispy curtains, velvet cushioned chairs, some drinks (Kasbah's one of the few restaurants in Winthrop with a liquor license), and a belly dancer who looks... uncomfortable whenever she's dancing! Score! Oh yeah, and hookah. Gotta love the hookah. My friends and I usually leave the place laughing hysterically - whether because of the drinks, the belly dancing girl, or the copious amounts of hookah, or the mixture of all of the above?? :)

I'm a regular here. Every month my buddies and I stop in for drinks and hookah. Only recently, within the past 3 weeks did I have a nasty experience.

My friends and I stopped in on a Friday night after having dinner with friends and requested a booth. We sat down and informed the waitress that we were going to have drinks and partake in a hookah. I have done this many many times. The waitress flat out said "No, you have to get food". We amused her and got 4 orders of Tapas ($20.00). We order a pitcher of sangria ($25.00) and a hookah ($20.00). For the non-mathematically inclined the bill, so far totaled $65.00 without tip.

After two hours of the waitress uncomfortably supervising us, for what reason I have no idea, she then rudely informs us that we need to order more food and more drinks. At this point we paid our bill and left.

I have never felt so uncomfortable in a lounge before. The wait staff made my friends and I feel unwelcome and that our money was no good. I felt as though my friends and I were talked down to and supervised for no good reason.

The atmosphere used to be lovely and welcoming but because of this experience I will consider other lounges in the future. Such a shame too, this place used to be great.

Go here if you want a rude wait-staff, uncomfortable / unnecessary supervision and the most pronounced feeling of un-welcomeness.

The food is ok here. I really wish this morroccan restaurant actually had morroccan food. They do have some, but the rest is all...you guessed it...italian. Id love to see more authentic flavourful dishes. The Hookah is a lot of fun though and the atmosphere is not to be missed!!

I got really confused when I first moved to Winthrop. One of their menus had all french and italian food and thats it, but then anoter menu ( i guess it was newer) had the tapas (really good), italian and some american choices. Again, wish they would expand their menu to include more arabic foods.

Hummus is really good, all of the tapas are really good. I loved the morrocan pizza, which has anchovies (we asked for without but it came with). The service is a little slow for how empty it usually is but the belly dancer is great to watch while enjoying some good food and drinks with friends.

I'm usually doing something else in Winthrop so I have yet to have dinner here; I've only popped in for drinks or appetizers kind of late a few times, but I hope to have a complete meal some time.  My favorite appetizer is the Bastilla:  Chicken, eggs, onions, crushed almonds and orange blossom water baked in a flaky filo dough pie topped with powdered sugar and organic cinnamon for about $12.  Small if you share it with someone, about 5 inches in diameter circle,  but wonderful and perfect if you aren't really, really hungry but just want to sample something.

This is my kind of place.  Dark red walls and ceiling with lots of middle eastern lanterns suspended from the ceiling, colorful carpets and brassy things all over, candles on the tables.  The place is full of laughing people of all different ages and ethnicities.  I guess it would be different on a slow night, but it's always vibrating with life when I've gone.   Everyone just seems to be having fun.  Sometimes there's a belly dancer, but last night there was a man singing provocative Arabic music.  I'm not crazy about synthesizer, but he had a beautiful voice and that dominated, not the synth.  Fun just to sit back and feel the good vibes on many levels.

Fun atmosphere, good sangria and courteous staff, but the food is pretty bad. Best to go to the Kasbah for drinks and entertainment. The "coq au vin" we ordered was cubed supermarket chicken breasts in a slightly burnt sauce. Another appetizer was still partially frozen and we also got this pita thingy with feta that reminded me of something put together by a 10-year old emptying the fridge after school.

I went here on a Friday night with my aunts for dinner. We were the only people there, yet our food seemed to take forever. I got a couscous plate, which was good - amazingly hot (temperature wise) and took a million years to get to the table. My aunts had several of the tapas - it seems the way to go, they got there before we were about to chomp our arms off.

The hummus plate is really good. They give you bread for the table while you wait. The tapas I tasted were really good. The food is a little pricey, but it's a nice atmosphere, with all the curtains and dim lighting. We continued to be the only customers (though the waitress stayed inattentive?) until we were about to leave well past 9pm. There was a band setting up next to the fully stocked bar (must go back and try drinks...) it looked like it was about to get alot more exciting there...

want erghile [hooka]??? This is a good place 2 lounge w/ ur friends and smoke some while sitting in a booth ... it took me 3 trains and 1 bus transfer 2 get here from cambridge which was annoying ... they had good arabic music but a poor american belly dancer who made my cousin and I laugh our asses off ... I advise you to go here 4 the erghile, not the show ... their moroccan mint tea was also v good, as for their food - we didn't order any ... oh, yea - you also need 2 share the erghile
