Pockets Billiard Club

I stopped by here about a week ago. It was during the day and just opening up. I was the only person in the place. Decent atmosphere, it is in a basement so not much in the way of natural lighting. They have a bar, some arcade games, air hockey and 12-15 tables. They are in decent condition, some wear, but not as bad as some that i've seen. I was given a table all the way in the back corner, and parts of the floor were uneven and soft. I would stay to the middle of the room if you have the choice. As someone who takes pool pretty seriously, it was a good place to practice for a short period of time. Only thing I was unhappy with was $10 an hour even during the day, would have liked to see lower rates.

The tables could be in better condition but they are considerably better than Big City, so are the cues. There are about 15 pool tables.

The staff is.....whatever. They run a pool hall and they could give a f&#.

And, as a side note, don't listen to them when they say there is a pool tournament. There probably isn't. And, from what I heard, when they do run them, they are crooked and mismanaged.

I'm not one to ever pull out the prejudice card, but there were many time my friends and I were mistreated by the staff. It could have been either because of our ethnic backgrounds (which I hope is not the case in our day and age) or our young ages, making us less valuable patrons because we can't spend money at the bar. Either way, I was never more sure that we were being treated differently than other customers. One of my many poor experiences there was when my friends and I were paying the bill for a table and as we were collecting money at the front desk, he kept the tab running and charged us more for the few seconds it took for us to collect money. As we handed the money in a rush, I was sure I gave him extra (unintentionally) and asked to recheck the amount. He said no, without counting it  in front of us. I hate that this is the only place under 21 year olds can go on a late night in Boston..
